I been to both cities, and I think Petoskey is much nicer. When the realtor said 15,000 in traverse city, that is just the city proper. The city grew WAY past the city limits. I bet the real population is about 40,000 when you take in all the neighborhoods out side the city limits. Plus Petoskey is just so beautiful, and not too big yet.
Living in Northern Michigan all my life, I would choose TC by a landslide. Bigger, more things, and getting from one side of Petoskey to the other is HORRIBLE, with only one real main road through the city. Takes forever to go from one side to another.
I go with Traverse City .Double the population of Petoskey .You don't get the in-bred feeling like in Petoskey .Better outside connections , Traverse City has Interlochen and is closer to southern Michigan ( civilization ) , and a huge influx of people from outside during the summer .
I’ve been living in traverse city for all my life and I live it. Petoskey is amazing too they have great restaurants there as well
Just got back from Petoskey and Traverse City. This popped up on my feeds. We love Petoskey!
I’m glad you love it here!
Traverse City was great 20+ yrs ago. Now? Not so much. Petoskey is the clear winner here.
TC has a serious traffic/touron/vibe to it... Love the Costco, though...

@ Thank you!
How do you handle the brutal winters?
1. Enjoy the peacefulness and embrace the slower pace of life
2. Pick a winter sport.
3. Travel 😂
Please don't come to Petoskey we've been trying to get a bypass for 60 years.. trust me you will not like it..
Traffic is a bummer when your timing is off.
