I always thought the line "Horrified with each stone on the stage" was referring to stoning, which was used as a method of capital punishment in the middle ages aka the *dark ages.* To me, the first half of the first chorus is the narrator saying, if you hide your mistakes, they'll haunt you forever, and the second half is the narrator saying that if you come out of hiding, you might end up executed for your sins, which places you in a situation with no way out, ultimately leading to the end of the third chorus. Adding to the dark age theme, the second chorus ends with "burn the page, my little dark age," which might be nodding to the various book burnings in the middle ages.
I really like your analysis of the song, I learned a couple of things from it I wouldn’t have considered while listening to it. Really enjoyed watching your video. I know that I (along with many others), also do really like this song. This song is special to me, and has a great deal of meaning to me on a personal level as well.
The first part of the song “breathing in the dark lying on it’s side” sounds like someone is dying, as if the narrator murdered someone, “the ruins of the day painted with a scar” could mean that this shitty life has another dead body in it, or that the person he killed fought back and now he has a scar, and as you said, “being on the wrong side of the law” he could be running from the cops and the disguise thing is that the cops are starting to notice them, so the love that the cops have for him as a civilian is leaving making them want to shoot him and I’m guessing the friends that were involved. “ policemen swear to god love is seeping from the guns, I know my friends and I would probably turn and run.” But yeah, trying to get away for murder and when he says bring a stone it might mean that he feels too bad about the murder he is saying just kill me, I deserve it, giving you the item to do so. But I don’t know tell me if you agree.

I like your inclusion of the 'dark ages' time period into that interpretation

A song that manages to be both medieval and cyberpunk?
Is this the greatest pop song of the 21st century?
