    This bass has incredible tone for the price of the Yamaha bass. It sounds really clean and pristine, I'm amazed at the sound of the bass.

    I received one for Christmas and I run it through an Ampeg BA210 and it sounds like a dream. It hasn't even been modded yet and it has a wonderful, heavy sound.
    Like a cross between a Fender Precision, Fender Jazz, and a StingRay. Highly recommended for those who love a classic/ punchy bass sound.

      Funny because I don't know much about basses being a beginner but I always love punchy tone you can get from a PJ, jaguar, thunderbird or stingray I really find this one appealing indeed :-)

    Your demo is the best one I came across so far. I already ordered mine, now I wait for it to arrive. I purchased the red one. It will be my workhorse bass for external performances and home studio recordings via Radial J48 DI Box. It sounds phenomenal, and better than a lot of the expensive basses. The Yamaha tone is sweet on my ears. I assume it will be awesome, if not stellar, in both live and the home studio. Thanks.

    well done and thank you. I bought one to lay down some bass tracks on a few recordings. Quite a sleeper for the price, and the finish is beautiful. Will outplay any Squier , Ibanez bass at the price point and much more overall quality. It will always come down to preference, but if you're going to drop $200 - $250, don't waste a dime on anything else.

    Amazing sound! Thanks for posting the video - it's very helpful. I have a TRBX304 and was thinking of upgrading the bridge. Did you have any issues with setting up the action low with the new bridge? It looks like the saddles of 201B are 10mm, whereas the stock ones are 8mm, so I saw some people had to shim the neck or use dremel to work around. Is the sound from this video from EMG pickups? What do you think about the stock pickups? Are they decent or better to be replaced? Thanks!

      @Tex_I_Can 9 місяців тому

      I just bought the TRBX174EW. I haven't played in years and started looking into all of the budget basses. I researched for almost 2 months and then went to a local store to try several out. The Yamaha was, by far, the best of the group.

  • @VCMsoundvision

    Great video! Was adding the Gotoh bridge a worthwhile upgrade for this bass?

    • @VCMsoundvision
      @VCMsoundvision 8 років тому +1

      Oh, one more question-are the mounting holes the same as the Yamaha bridge? I've read elsewhere that the Gotoh bridge is a good upgrade. Also, what about the tuning keys? Have you looked at those? All these upgrade options sound great, but one might only want to go so far with an instrument at this price point. Let me know what you think, and Thank you!

    • @fretlesik
      @fretlesik  8 років тому +5

      I bought this instrument as a modding platform. Bridge was the first thing I've swapped. I'm replacing fretboard with ebony fretless one, and I need bridge which will give me more sustain. The tuning keys are fine, but I prefer higher gear ratio, so I've already changed them for Gotoh GB707. Even without mods this is a fine instrument. Next video of fretless version will be out next week.

      The first song (or main phrase) of the actual sound test is called "Olive" - song from my debut solo EP "BASSQUARTER" and you can listen to it on Spotify or you can get it from CD Baby.

    I ordered one of these but had to send it back bc they sent me a USED one when I had ordered NEW and I actually ended up instead getting a Squier... But after a couple months with the Squier I think I want to get one of these Yamaha again. The neck was more of a narrow jazz neck while the Squier I have now is an EXTREMELY wide precision neck. Too thick for my play style for sure. You make this Yamaha sound fantastic.
