  • Bristol Bay, one of Alaska’s most treasured natural wonders, is under threat. It’s home to an irreplaceable ecosystem and one of the last salmon strongholds. Not only that, its iconic wildlife has sprung up a sustainable tourism industry which effects thousands of Alaskan livelihoods.
All of this is under threat if the Pebble Mine moves forward. The recent approval of the environmental impact statement has made it clear that our voices need to be heard.
Nature and people can’t live without fresh water, and Bristol Bay is the lifeblood that sustains every species calling the region home. On a recent trip to Alaska, the #BDTeam and WWF Ambassador, Jeremy Jauncey, learned firsthand about the conservation community’s fight against Pebble Mine.

    TAKE ACTION:
Tell EPA to VETO the Pebble Mine.
Despite the threat of a mining disaster in Bristol Bay, Pebble Mine permitting has been rushed through at record speed. The final environmental review for Pebble Mine was released on July 23 2020 and the US Army Corps can issue a record of decision and permit the mine after 30 days. Now is the time to make our opposition to Pebble Mine heard.
Call the EPA Regional Director Chris Hladick and Alaskan Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and tell them to do everything in their power to push the EPA to veto the Pebble Mine.
The EPA has a responsibility to protect Bristol Bay communities and must veto the Pebble Mine.

The proposed mine would use zero cyanide, no harm to fish, this has been a political debate that is actually more broad than Pebble and the last 20 years. The very purchase of Alaska from Alexander and Russia after the cw brought America to the front center bc they knew it was loaded with resources. Biggest regret Russia ever made, and soon they will see why.

It is a beautiful area and I appreciate your opinion. I was waiting for a substantial argument but I only saw a couple of interviews with fishermen. I hope this wasn't your Master's Thesis for Environmental "Whatever" class. If it was for your video making class you might be fine. Unfortunately, you fail to acknowledge that the US Army Corps of Engineers, the quintessential Environmental Engineering Team on the Earth, has stated that “IMPACTS TO BRISTOL BAY SALMON ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE MEASURABLE”. Your data is based upon conjecture and pseudo-science and your thesis is unsupported. Good thing that professional scientists and engineers have almost finished an unbiased 2.5 year comprehensive analysis of the proposed mine plan and stated that it would have no substantial impact to the fishery or bear populations. This video didn't show the mine site one time, which is located in a tundra wilderness over 100 miles from Bristol Bay. To anyone who has been following the analysis and review of the NEPA process for this mine it's clear that this video is deceptive and agenda driven - not unbiased and truthful.

@@q187k Be careful what you read these days, lots of misinformation being spread. There is logical and scientific reasoning behind why the Pebble Project has undergone such a rigorous environmental impact study. The goal is to determine if the mine plan will cause harm to the local ecology. The 2 1/2 year, legal process has completed and the facts land on the side of a mine at Pebble not being a change agent for the detriment of the environment. The 2,000+ page report is readily available to all who are inclined to read at the USACOE's website.
The fact is, we need copper to fuel a low carbon, green future. 75% of the copper we procure comes from mines outside the US where environmental and social harm is committed on a daily basis. The US legal system around mining is the most rigorous, eco-friendly, and socially responsible system in the world. If the mine plan can hold up against this system, it deserves a permit.

The worlds gotta move on, and “protecting” certain animals for their own righteousness isn’t going to give people real jobs, build their economies, or feed people who are hungry. Exploration, innovation, etc are the reasons you live in the world you so much enjoy. Don’t be a hypocrite. If you’re against it all, you might as well go live in the wild otherwise you are just a contradiction to your own “righteous” cause. Think objectively not with your emotions, North America needs this mine, and it’s going to be built, wake tf up.
