  • How big can you build? This must be the most asked question on the channel, so lets dig into that!
    I will show you a bunch of large ship some very ambitious builders have created but I will also dig a bit into the technology behind the game.

    Thanks a lot for showing my battleship! It has progressed a fair bit since the blueprint i sent you. Smoother, with a slender back end and with an (almost) fully decorated first deck!

      @@gamer-1100 both! though i plan to have one gutted out for proper battle, there are a hundred doors and thousands of brick interiors that might make more potatoey computers drop FPS

      dude your ship is beautiful.... I admire your patience ! ive got thousands of hours in games like Space Engineers Empyrion... Brick Riggs and a few others BUT This game is by far the best in terms of building shapes.... Sure it lacks in texture... but that isnt needed so much when you can change block color and materials the way u can in this. Your ship is evidence of the beauty of complexity this game provides. Well done sir!

    LOD tech would be amazing for these larger builds with fine details but would be a lot of work to get right considering the creativity that can be done within the game. Interested in how you would tackle that.
    Have you thought about potentially merging polys on flat planes if possible?

      Yes, it is mainly a question of having some high resolution geometry to LOD from to be honest, which is not the case with the exception of the capacitor (which I will redo for that reason). The asteroids use LOD for example - it fits really well with that algorithm.

      @@starshipevo9967 In theory this game would lend itself to the LOD trick where small parts vanish with disrance. That shoukd make use of the component scaling.
      The main issue would be to not LOD vanish every part of the hull, if it is made from a lot of small pieces.

    Got this game a week ago and can’t stop playing. I love the challenge of having to figure out the engineering/mechanics of something as simple as a cargo ramp and bay doors for turrets etc. I haven’t had a game challenge me like this in ages.

    Another cool video.
    If have a small request (hopefully), although I haven't got the latest update yet so maybe this is already there. I can see you created letters from the decals, which is great but they are large. Would it be possible to have a decal where custom text is allowed for signs above doors, on walls and stuff like that? Something so we could indicate that it's Engineering, Medical, Docking Bay 1, Docking Bay 2 etc. I think it would be a nice addition, especially for larger ships and stations.

      So actually he made the letter by hand with stickers, there is no letter decals for now! But yes it is on the roadmap.

    The build tech in this game is amazing. I backed it a couple weeks ago and am really hoping it makes it to full release.

    @Francois I noticed the modularity used on space stations and now the large builds being showcased. I am wondering if you have your eyes on making some more building tools like copy-paste. I haven't had the drive to make starships since setting up turrets is a hassle if you got even a few. Should we expect anything like that soon?

      For the turret is the config setup or actually making the turret out of blocks? The problem with copy and paste is that you can add a massive amount of details in a short space. If I give that then people would use a super custom wall that would be 100x less (litterally, I am not joking on the number) more expensive that the simple hull for example. I do not want to shoot myself in the foot.

    We could all build a lot bigger and faster if the invisible block bug was fixed. Having to reload every 20-30 minutes has killed my desire to try and build anything at the moment. The bug has been reported and commented on many times and my concern is that it will not be fixed adequately before early access release. It really doesn't matter how much the engine can handle if there is no stability. Lack of stability will harm early access multiplayer and that could easily cripple adoption of this wonderful project.

      @@starshipevo9967 I'm not entirely sure as invisible blocks can still be a problem on large builds without symmetry. Yes, deletion appears to have it's own specific issues that may or may not impact the issue of invisible blocks. This has been logged and talked about on github and from my understanding involves update queues for voxel and render geometry becoming overwhelmed, resulting in voxel and collision data being updated but blocks do not become visible when added. I hope this helps and thanks for listening!

      @@starshipevo9967 New build (24b) has dropped and believe me, I am trying really hard to break it!! latency from symmetry seems to be much reduced and whilst I can still overwhelm the render queue, it seems to be catching up. I'm having to place blocks at an incredible speed though in order to stress the system out so this is far above any rational building speed. My hope is that this fix will have a marked impact on MP stability and my build buddy and I can get down to putting some hours in to finishing what we've started. Great work Tsuna!!

    I'm trying to build some sort of bar/pub station module (new to it but it's getting there) - was there a deadline by which you need all submissions?
    I figure this would be a cool module for players to hang out, get items or tasks from npcs and maybe a place for some kind of bounty board in the future - good to know what I'm building won't stress things compared to these huge ships. :)

    I wonder what the performance would be with two or three huge ships near a space station, can imagine it would put some strain on the lower end GPUs

      Yes the more you put the harder it will be, especially for poor GPU. To be fair I was running the video on a GTX960

    My dream is for a game to be able to build ships, travel between stars and land on/explore planets. This game has ticked two of those boxes so far. No Man's sky, and Space Engineers combined could be Starship Evo.

    Je viens de tester ton jeu (coucou les promo steam), et franchement bravo... si tu continues dans ce sens, tu vas récupérer tous les fans de space engineers ! ton concept est bien plus élaboré sur des choses qui peuvent paraitre tout bête mais qui vont libérer la créativité : le mélange de 2 tailles de grid, la déformation des block pour obtenir exactement le forme que tu veux... Hate de voir la suite :-) Merci !

    thank you so much for making a system able to make super massive ships i am always let down by how you cant really build scale models of star destroyers or super star destroyers in space engineers

    Can the player increase the build tool scale? Like StarMade, you can edit a config to make the build tool go way beyond the defaults, basically as big as you're computer can handle.
    Was essential in that game for large builds. Could take the default 10 block length and make it into say 100 or even 500 blocks long.

    Will you ever allow custom content as far as the space suits and helmet on the workshop like if a player faction is made and they have a custom suit that differentiates from the others so you know that you are in a group!

    Will there be an advanced build mode/overhead build perspective? I would love planes of symmetry and other tools to speed up building, perhaps as a shipyard

    I like how much you optimized the game to run smoothly. With the current update the intro/tutorial is bugged for me, so I have to leave the space station with no clip mode. Still I commend you for the building mechanics

      Hi, well this is concerning, could you please explain me what happens! What if another newcomer get the same bug! I would like to fix this.

      @@starshipevo9967 so at the beginning the character view is stuck and shaking while in the “respawn pod thing” I press f to get out and for some reason the whole station is somehow off. Some parts like the elevator walls are visible but not solid so you can go through them. Also the button to activate the building tutorial is also broken.

    Amazing game! Looking foward for more material about it. But... Technicaly speaking, what makes it Windows only? I mean, can it be ported to platforms like Macs, which uses Metal 2 as it's 3D foundation with a sufficient rost of devs? If not, despise the overuse of onboard GPUs this platform, what kind of features does Metal 2 / Mac OS lacks to do a proper porting of this kind of game?

    i really like this game but i dont like how you need rotators to make a perfect circle. its just frustrating to try and do and you should just add placement blocks to where you can make a perfect saucer at any size

    So, does the game have a Core Gameplay Loop? If not, are you planning to add one?
    What I mean by that is, a game like Minecraft has the Core Gameplay Loop of:
    -Go out
    -Find resources
    -Return to base
    Which is kept interesting because basic resources enable you to create tools which enable you to find more advanced resources which enable you to create more advanced tools, enabling you to create the best gear and build the best base, enabling you to tame your environment and survive its dangers... there's a constant sense of progression.
    Space Engineers kinda fell flat here, because there were basic resources... and that was it. Once you had a ship that could process the basic elements and produce components... that's it. There's nothing to do in Space Engineers other than build ships, and the ships have no purpose other than to show off to your friends. In Minecraft, there are challenges to build up to, obstacles in the game world that can be overcome once you've acquired powerful tools and resources, which provide a sense of purpose to finding things. In Space Engineers, there are no such challenges; no missions or obstacles or opponents to be overcome by clever design or acquisition of powerful resources. At the moment, it seems as though Starship EVO is in the same boat.
    I understand that the game is early-access, and you are a one-man design team, which I think is awesome, but I think the game will be much better off for having an engaging Core Gameplay Loop. In other words, don't be Space Engineers, be Minecraft.

      Not physically simulated, but you could build a ship with, say, a ring, and set the gravity individually for each segment so that it always points to the outside "down" surface.

    Occlusion culling by perspective culling on thew GPU? Awesome! But how do you want to implement LOD for physics without making parts of the ship "inactive"?

      There's a couple of surface vehicles and at least two spaceships in the starting area. Mind you, you can build a basic 5-6 block in minutes once you've done the tutorial.

    a european game without portuguese language, gentlemen devs, i'm not asking for portuguese from Portugal translations i'm asking portuguese from brazil for a simple reason portuguese from brazil the portuguese understand perfectly and brazilians are the biggest community of gamers that they speak portuguese, i'm sure if the game was in portuguese from Portugal they would accept that too, well, if they don't have translators i can do portuguese from Portugal translation.

    ps: the portuguese language is spoken all over the world by 400 million people, the portuguese language is spoken in Portugal, Brazil and some African countries and maybe in other countries but I'm not 100% sure, companies in the united states ignore the portuguese language it's normal, now a company that is from europe this is surreal, Portuguese speaking gamers around the world we are close to 150 thousand players, I think it's enough to make a translation in Portuguese, don't you think?

      True. Brazil alone is one of the largest markets in the world. It blows my mind when games support German and even Dutch or Polish, but not Portuguese.

      To make things even worse, only a very small portion of Brazilians speak or even understand English, unlike most European people.
