How I Paint Things - Seraphon Saurus Warriors
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 кві 2018
- Saurus are the bulk of any heavy Seraphon army - tough and fearsome, they make ideal troops in the war against Chaos! The Lizardmen are a classic race brought forward into Age of Sigmar and these miniatures still look great when they're painted up, so I've gone for the classic blue and red scheme. READ MORE:

This was exactly what I was looking for to speed up painting these guys. Thank you!
The texture on these guys makes drybrushing the prominent areas a breeze. :D Hope this helps!
Thanks so much! Just started painting my first army, and this has been a great help! They're coming out great, keep up the great work!
All of your videos are so full of character! Great for beginners and more advanced painters too. Best miniature painting channel by far! I love the emphasis on simplifying things and just having fun being creative. :)
Thanks a lot! I'm not sure I'd call myself the best, but I think it's fair to say there's a niche not totally filled by other channels that I'm happy to wallow around in. :D The most important thing when approaching any creative hobby is to remember to just enjoy yourself - getting started, you're going to be confronted constantly by 'better' results, so finding what you're happy with and building a tool set of reliable, consistent techniques is the place to start. All subject to opinion, of course!
This has helped me so much! Thanks for helping me start my serophan army!
Love the result! Good job, this inspires me to consider building Seraphon army next, thank you!
Awesome! I always learn something new to refine my painting techniques whenever I watch your tutorials. Thanks for your great work!
Thanks a lot! I try to make sure there's a little something unique to each video so you're not getting the same advice constantly. ;D If it helps, I'm really glad to hear it.
Sonic Sledgehammer Studio It certainly does help. And with the repetitiveness/subtle changes in details, it's good to hear and see similar lessons because this process is one of gradual refinement of skill.
Thanks man! Cool video. This makes me want to get the start collecting box and give it a go!
Wow, thats a great paint job Mr. Sonic, love the shield.
Thanks! I was only fairly recently reminded that glazes were so useful for things like that, so it was nice to be able to put that in a video. :)
I’m going to paint my saurus bright orange with dark green scales.
howd it turn out?
looks so awasome .
Best seraphon tutorial out there!
Very good video. Used it to paint my own seraphon saurus.
Damn this looks gorgeous!
Simple , quick and good
Looks good
I quite like the way you said “lizardy bit”.
This video was so nice and calming! I had a rather shitty day, but this relaxed me! Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Very good video! Easy to understand and to replicate! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Good old stuff Troy
Great job fella
My other half collects Seraphon, and she could deliver a pretty firm whack if I didn't do a halfway decent job on her favourites. :D
Nice quick and dirty paint
I watched this at least 15 times
I'd love to see how you do your bases, if you haven't already done a video on that
I did one a little while back, but I'll be touching on some of these simpler bases in another video soon. A lot of people have asked about them, so it seems like it'd be an easy win!
good lizard! I'm waiting for next Skaven miniature, they are really cool!
I really need to get busy with those rats! :D
Cracking tutorial!
God your like the bob ross of Warhammer (that’s a good thing)👍🏻
I'll take that! ;D
Sonic Sledgehammer Studio would you mind doing a video on painting skinks, I know their really similar but I still just want to see how you out do me in everything.
nice video again, please could you do a video on how to paint imperial guard(cadian) and tempestus scions standards? like the flag things?
Banners and other impressive centerpieces can seem pretty daunting, but it's all the same principles. That said, I'll see about a banner bearer in the next couple of weeks - I'll need to find my bits box and assemble one! :D
Hello. Amazing tutorial! Do u mind making a list of the colors you used in this video?
Great tutorial. How about using green colors on the Seraphon Saurus?
Anything's possible! I've seen some really cool Saurus using different colour combinations. One of my favourites was using an off-white underbelly with red scales! It took a little longer to paint, but it looked fantastic. The techniques would be much the same, though - start with a drybrush of the scales and then layer the skin to keep it tidy.
Thank you for walking me through my first bit of painting! I'm really happy with my Saurus Warriors having copied you as closely as I possibly could. Now I'm moving onto other units, I'm just conscious that I want to keep the same 'tone'. I've been looking around for a while and can't make any decisions! Sorry to bother you with this but do you have any recommendations (specific Citadel base/dry/shade paints etc.) for the flesh of Skinks that would sit well alongside your Saurus Warriors scheme? As there as so many Seraphon units, I plan on covering most colours eventually so I'd go in any direction! And, while I'm here (!), I'm going to crack on with Cold Ones soon and, as with the Skinks, I don't want them to clash with your Saurus Warrior scheme. Any opinions on colour schemes with those? Sorry; I think you're the best person to ask! Hope you're having a good weekend. Thanks again for your help and no worries if you can't reply.
Oof... good questions! :D
In truth, most of the paint combinations I go for tend to be those recommended by the Citadel Paint App. It's free to download on mobile or tablet and it's actually been a super useful tool for getting an idea for colour choices for a lot of my own work when I just want quick, reliable results. The Skinks I would likely paint much the same as the Saurus, but rather than shading over the drybrush, I might save the drybrush until last? Or use slightly less shade over them... I'm not too sure off the top of my head, but I wouldn't deviate very far from the same colours used on all the actual Lizardmen in the army.
The big guys are a different story! They tend toward more dinosaur-ish colours, lots of greens and beige underbellies. In the main I'd probably do the scaled segments with Waaagh Flesh, maybe Nurgling Green for the drybrush, then hit them with Coelia Greenshade, but that's really just the first thing that comes to mind. I recall them being mostly green on the boxes, and I tend to think that most of the 'official' army colours tend to be pretty good - the 'Eavy Metal team wants to pick a colour scheme that compliments the miniatures, after all!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Thank you very much for the thorough and reassuring reply. I put a big paint order in last night off the back of your advice and I've gone for fairly 'traditional' colours with a few bold skink choices so I can get more creative/messy. I'm going to have fairly consistent underbellies on the big guys and then have fun with the colours on the top. Anyway. Thank you. I'll keep dropping in and, hopefully, one day, I can help people out!
Once you've had a shot at some skinks I'd love to see how they turn out! Feel free to drop an Imgur link or something in here if you fancy sharing some work. :D
Will you paint some Empire (from fantasy) models? Great tutorial again! :)
I'd love to, really! I've painted a bunch of Empire back in the day, but getting hold of them these days is a little more challenging.
Pretty new to your channel so might not have found it yet but do you have a "How I set up to paint things" like shaking paints, using a wet palette, posture, lighting?
I haven't, as it happens. It hadn't yet occurred to me that'd be of use! Stuff like posture and lighting and such all seems automatic by this point, so I hadn't considered it might be useful to someone. There's a quick look at some of my setup, but an actual 'Why everything is the way it is!' might make for a good short.
If there are models which are well suited for the new contrast colours, this one probably is...
How do you paint the Seraphon Salamander?
thanks man
No problem! It took a little longer than I'd have liked to get this one out, but I quite like the results for a minimum of fuss. :)
yeah, generally your quality of painting is great
I really wish you included the optional colors in the lineup at the beginning of the video somehow. Stinks to get to that step only to realize that you don't have that color and all store near you are closed. :(
Other then that, great tutorial and it's helped me tons!
If nothing else, the optional stuff you can leave until last and simply do later over a 'finished' miniature, so don't worry too much if it happens out of order! :D
Very true!
I ended up doing just that. :)@@SonicSledgehammerStudio
What would be a good highlight for the spear tip? Eshin grey for the sharp edge part then dawnstone for edges?
Very nice! If you wanted to take this model another step or 2 further what would you do? Would it help to edge highlight all the scales maybe? Assuming time isn’t an issue
Pretty much! You'd be far braver than me to go to that length, though. I'd probably suggest you'd be better off to highlight along the softer underbelly and make that a little lighter, but if time isn't a question there are plenty of places you could highlight.
Can you please give me a list of the colors? That would be nice
Great video. How much water do you use to dilute the paint at various stages?
Honestly, it depends a lot on what manufacturer I'm using for the paint, and what type of paint it is! Usually it's just a little water left in the brush while rinsing it out, but that's one to experiment with.
ciao, bellissimo video...posso chiederti come mai metti sotek green se poi lo copri con temple guard blue? scusa se parlo italiano.Grazie
👍👍👍
Would this work with a spray of ultramarine blue or without any spray?
If you wanted to save yourself some time/money, could you potentially substitute Sotek Green with Thousand Sons Blue?
Theoretically, sure. It'll just look different. 🤷♂️
Great tutorial! Did you prime him first, or spray blue straight on to the plastic?
The Citadel colour sprays are actually primers, too! So in this case the answer to both those questions is "Yes." :D
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Thanks for a quick response! Enjoy a coffee on me :)
Thank you! :D Very kind of you. Hope it sees you right with your Seraphon, too!
Hey sir, what are you using at 9:50 pls, I don't understand what is it, would you mind spelling it to me ? Thx
I littelarly just bought these figures 10 minutes ago.
Did you use Steel Legion Drab for the base rim, or perhaps Zandri Dust?
This would have been Steel Legion Drab, I think.
Do you pin the arms on the modell ?. Or did you just glue them on?. Starting a seraphon army so i wonder
As long as you're using plastic glue you don't need to pin them, they'll stay fixed just fine.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio okay thank you
What paint to water scheme should I use for the paint?
You don't need very much water in most cases. To give a really rough guide, I tend to use about 3 parts paint to 1 part water, but that'll change depending on humidity, temperature and the like. The only real answer here is to practice, and as long as the paint's coming off the brush without forcing it, you're doing alright. Thinning it down to a milky consistency will have you painting the same colour for hours!
Sonic Sledgehammer Studio thanks!
It looks good with the blue and red combination.
I've seen some really interesting colour schemes for Lizardmen over the years, but that classic blue and red is so striking it's hard to pass by!
My mini's are already sprayed on with a gray primer what do I do?!?!?!
It's ok. You can use gray primer. It won't make too big of a difference to the colour. Just base coat it with maccrage blue using either spray or paint.
how long does it take you to do a seraphon saurus warriors.
Something like this takes about forty minutes individually. If you're batch painting five to ten at a time that can be cut down to about half an hour each.
I bet you hate how i painted my khorne hounds.
I doubt it?

Jesus christ, what's with the $250.00 on the Retributor Armor?
That gold paint seem expensive $250.00.
Joshua Atkinson wait really?
QuirkyAdventures no probably just stuck the price of something else on it for giggles it is gold paint after all......
Joshua Atkinson ahhh xD
This video works well for trolls/troggoyhs too
$250 for a jar of paint?
I forget where that sticker came from originally, but once it was on the Retributor Armour there's no way it's coming off. ;)
Did you really pay $250 for your Retributor armour paint?!?!?
I mean there are real bits of gold in there.
