    I would moisturize prior to the primer. Put the moisturizer on, wait 5-10 mins then primer then corrector, then powder.

    Mature women typically have to choose between wrinkles/lines OR smoothed coloration under eye. We don't get to have it both ways. We can correct color and have more pronounced wrinkles, or we can have more discoloration with less pronounced wrinkles. So, whatever the day calls for is the way to go. :-)

    You are absolutely hilarious and speak to the aggravations of aging. For the longest time I have absolutely hated makeup because I've followed advice that wasn't suited to my skin type or skin age. Or, let's be honest...I'm so lazy! ;) I really appreciate how down to earth and real you are with these videos. I really relate to you.

    Every time I try powdering it looks okay at first. Then after an hour (or less) it looks like tree bark. But UA-cam always convinces me to keep trying it. 🤦‍♀️ I’ve also tried the primer trick and it just makes the problem worse. I would love to find a 360 primer that doesn’t dry out my skin but actually holds on to product.

    I have this same problem with my under eye area. I think exactly what you do. While the other side does look dryer I think it looks better. I think we are too picky sometimes when it comes to ourselves and we are looking for perfection. I think I am going to try this several times and fiddle with it. Thanks Anne!

    Hi Anne what a great experiment. The under eye area can be so tricky and is different for all. I think if you use a good under eye moisturizer before the concealer it should do the trick. Using the right concealer for dry skin is good which I see you already do. Your one eye looked smoother from far away, but drier close up. Sometimes just tapping a little powder with your finger is all you need or a makeup setting spray that is not drying OR just don't use a primer or powder - what you were already doing was working great for you. Have a wonderful week Anne xxoo Jackie

    I started using the Kaja concealer months ago, and I haven't looked back since. Unlike many brands, it is not yellow. I use the Surratt concealer brush to gently pat from lash line to bottom of the hollow, and i use my ring finger to blend the concealer with my foundation. I only powder if I have been sweating while putting on my makeup or I expect to sweat during the day.

    The primer side definitely looks more airbrushed! And the only way I saw any lines under your eyes it when you zoomed in and I was literally 1 inch from your face. No one but your hubby will ever look at you this closely. I didn't notice under eye lines being more prominent with primer and powdered side! I have dry, crepey under eyes as well. I use same Kiehls eye cream, and same Lancome under eye concealer as you use. I actually found an under eye powder I can use: the Milani under eye powder. I use VERY LITTLE and it does not look dry or cakey and doesn't emphasis my lines. I was shocked that this product worked for me. As to under eye primer, I have never tried one before, so this technique is new to me. Thanks for another fantastic video! ❤❤

    I do something similar to this. I do put eye primer under my eyes, however, it is only what is leftover on my fingers after applying to my lid. I use a small damp beauty blender, dip it ever so lightly in my FINELY milled powder, blow off any excess and lightly set under my eyes. This way I'm not accidentally tugging or pulling. I had stopped using my concealer before this trick because no matter what it settled in my wrinkles. I'm glad you shared this with everyone. I use UD anti-aging primer. 24 hr insurance is too drying FYI.

    I think the new technique looks smoother, as you mentioned. It seems to make the color more even, the darker areas are less noticeable. WE don’t see your wrinkles (you have very few compared to me) from a distance, and as another commenter mentioned, we aren’t looking at you with a 10x mirror, as you look at yourself.
    I tried the primer technique, and I thought that it made my wrinkles stand out and the under eye area look drier, too, but seeing it on you, I may try it, again.
    Thank you!

    I feel that powders emphasize and dry out my under eye area. I started using a tinted moisturizer under my eye. I made it myself by mixing moisturizer, sunscreen, primer and a foundation about 2 shades darker than I use. I just spread a little under my eyes and on my eyelids. Let it set for a minute then I dab Maybelline Instant age rewind just where I need it and blend with my finger....patting it out, not rubbing it. I dont powder after. I find for dry, wrinkly under eyes this looks the most natural.

      Karen Lee I do a similar thing. After years of trying to find an under eye concealer that hid the dark circle but didn’t crease making everything look worse, I gave up. • @AmyLSchulte

    As far as just regular shadow primer, I prefer MAC Painterly. I’m on my second pot and those things take forever to get through. For undereye, though, I’ve used Smashbox, ELF, and right now Catrice. I powdered before I started using them and then got to an age where it wasn’t working, so I tried the primer and it’s like night and day. Also, I’ve had to go through a lot of powders to find ones that really work well and don’t settle. My favorite are TF Peach Perfect and UD The Velvitizer (tip from Andrea Matilliano). I do a tiny bit of moisturizer, let it dry, and then primer. Let that dry, then corrector and concealer with a brush. I have the powder open and the damp sponge ready, tap undereye with my finger to smooth and go right in with the powder. It lasts all day for me and stays smooth.

    I've been in the same boat and have tried numerous products/techniques. I find using an eye primer and/or color corrector emphasizes my lines and makes my under eyes look dry. I am now using Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer and then set it with a translucent powder does the trick - I apply both with the Beauty Blender.

  • @caterinaiona6397
    @caterinaiona6397 5 років тому +1

    I have tried so many times my Translucent setting powder from Chanel under my eyes and even if I use just a tiny bit with my brush the lines look more prominent. I usually use the Chanel corrector and their concealer and a lot lot of eye cream underneath as my undereye area gets so dry. I even have to add just a little bit of eye cream during the day over my concealer. There are times I mix the concealer with some eye cream but lately Erin Nicole suggested that I buy the Sisley eye mask. This is supposed to be used as a mask twice a week but she uses it as an eye cream and leaves it there. So that is what I did. It made a real difference, kept the eyes hydrated all day and didn't interfere with the concealer. I have also used the Baume essentiel in transparent from Chanel under the eyes and the concealer above it and that also kept the undereye area not dry. But with any powder on no matter what cream I use underneath the lines which are just like yours, look more prominent. From a distance the skin might look more smooth but if you get closer it looks dry and wrinkley.

    I really like Tarte creaseless concealer. It doesn't crease or accentuate wrinkles. I also don't ever use powder. I feel like the powder settles into the wrinkles and makes them look worse. From a distance, it may look better with powder, but close up, I think powder looks very aging. I haven't ever tried a primer under the eye though. I feel like less is more when it is under the eye.

    Annie ! Your perception that the powdered side highlights wrinkles is probably coming from the fact that that has been your experience so you're expecting it, looking for it & focused on that. Frankly, I'm with you - the powdered side looks great. I recently picked up an awesome tip - eye cream, moisturizer then primer (face not eye) & that foundation stays right where I left it ! I avoided primers for the longest time because I couldn't stand the way that extra layer felt but now that I'm in my late 50s it's imperative plus they've come a long way in the last ten years. This one is Laura Mercier Prime & Protect & you can't even tell it's on your face. I really appreciate your UA-cam videos. You're eyeshadow vid from yesterday inspired me to try again hoods & all !! I'm also heading to your concealer & corrector vids as I've been in denial about needing that as well.
    Happy Thanksgiving !

    I love your honesty and your videos, newbie here lol. I think the left (your right) eye does look better from a distance. I do have a question...HOW does a person put on concealer, before or after your foundation? I have seen it done both ways. I am 61 years old and have horrible dark circles under my eyes to the point that people have actually asked me if my husband beats me!!!! I have found nothing that works because I look like I am using a ton of concealer when I use it and it settles in my lines and just looks terrible. Thank you

    • @MakeupForMatureSkin
      @MakeupForMatureSkin  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Donna, I think it's personal preference. I always apply it before my foundation but I don't think it matters. The under eye area is super tricky. Because you're trying to conceal but with dark circles adding to much will only settle into lines. There's a concealer pencil that I just started to use. It only comes in two shades, but it is a color corrector/concealer. And that's what you need to use is a color corrector. If you can see if you can test it out before you purchase it. It's from Anastasia of Beverly hills. Ulta and Sephora sell it. When you apply your concealer, even though you have dark circles completely under your eye don't apply it all on that area. Because if you do it will just settle. Apply a tiny amount to the inner corner portion as I shared in this video. Then blend it only in that area first then blend whatever is left the the rest of that eye area. You may not be able to completely cover it but it should cover it enough. That's the thing is too much with settle and not enough you'll still see the discoloration. But I think if you use a color corrector this should help cancel out some of that purple. A peach color corrector will help do that. I hope this makes sense and I hope this helps. But I feel your frustration.

    I empathise with you. Dark circles and 56 year old crepey under eyes. Deep joy! I have to use powder otherwise even tubing mascara and/or waterproof mascara smudge under my eyes. (I use Bobbi Brown extra repair eye cream which is very rich but it does moisturise incredibly well). Best powder I've found is the By Terry hydra powder in original translucent. Haven't tried the new tinted ones yet. Other option that I've found pretty good is spraying small sponge with setting spray but obviously needs to be a setting spray sans alcohol (if there is such a thing??) otherwise one's under eyes will become even drier. Think I got that trick from the gorgeous Mr Goss. I agree with lots of commenters that we are too self critical and only ones nearest and dearest are going to be close enough to see any slight caking.

    I use the smallest amount (1/2 pea size for whole face) of embryolisse lait creme after eye creams/moisturizer ect. When I set, it's the tiniest amount of powder and after I use Pixi Milky Mist, it melts everything down. Then I might lightly dust with powder areas I don't want shine. For me it's the best way I've found to deal with crepey skin.

    Hydrating the under eye area with a good under eye cream works best for me. The Blue eye serum by Chanel actually reduces the dark circles and acts as a smooth base for under eye concealer. I apply a very little amount of Clarins concealer with a small brush and blend it well into the skin and tap lightly with my finger. I find using a little of my Maybeline eraser over it creates a flawless look too. I continue to press it in gently using my beauty blender and right after I will use a small amount of the elf under eye setting powder with a soft brush and proceed to then press in with my beauty blender. It’s a no-fail for me every time. The elf powder is milled so fine and does not look cakey at all. Hope these might help you out.

    I’ve tried eye primer - makes it look worse. I only powder if I’m going somewhere special or for photos because powder always makes me look dry and emphasises wrinkles. For a daily basis I use a very moisturising eye cream under eye and concealer. This looks best. It will crease but I’m happy to pat it out after an hour and it doesn’t crease after that. I prefer the unpowdered side on you close up but at a distance the primer/powder side is brighter.

    I agree with you you can see the lines when looking super close BUT with your full face of makeup it didn’t look as pronounced. My biggest bane of contention is my sinuses which cause my bags turn into luggage. I don't have discoloration, but do have a couple of veins on my lids. Foundation & a shadow in my skin tone do the trick. I only use a tiny brush and cover the trough in the bag and a lipstick brush with translucent powder in the trough as well. I then use a rice powder I make myself from Japanese rice and a spice grinder all over my face. It doesn't settle or dull the skin and use rose water as a finish spray.

    It’s funny that you posted this today because I experimented for the first time by putting a primer under my eye this morning. I need to do it some more to really tell but my lines looked a little less. I used a silicone primer since it’s supposed to blur lines. Silicone makes my oily T zone look greasy by the end of the day so I thought it might do well under my dry under eyes. You may want to try it and see what you think

    So I’ll never use eye primer under my eyes, and I stopped using powder under my eyes a year or more ago. (I’m 47, very dry skin.) I also switched from the Effacernes to the Chanel (concealer shade) because it just looks less dry on me. If I use a very small amount, blended in with my beauty sponge and/or ring finger, it doesn’t crease. But that’s true of the Effacernes for me too (doesn’t crease once it sets itself/dries down).

    Have you tried the Becca Cosmetics Anti-Fatigue Under Eye primer?

    I stopped applying under eye powder because I can't get it to look "smoother." It just makes them drier. One thing I do now is apply a hydrating primer under my eyes. I really like the CoverFX one. Only a tiny amount is needed.

    Face oil on top or mixed in with your moisturizer helps stop your undereye drying out and cracking

      @Donna mcdermott... Yes! I always add 2-3 drops of avocado(prefer organic) oil to my CeraVe moisturizer and go right up under and around my whole eye area. Its so nourishing with the good fatty acids from the avo oil, and my skin just drinks it up. My undereyes never are problematic with that oil trick!☺✌
