When Titus hits that note with *“true love, woah”* you really feel it. How I can feel so much emotion while someone sings about zoodles as two alcoholics robots make out, I don’t know, but sometimes pop songs don’t really rhyme.
When he said "broke my wings so you could fly", I felt that. The emotion in this video is so overwhelming. Like, you wouldn't expect this to put you in your feelings and make you giggle. He should've won that emmy, for real.
I'm waiting for the day on the show Titus gets his well deserved big break!

What I loved about this, and mostly the series, is how it hides real emotional depth behind comedy. Like it tells honestly how much Titus loved Mikey but at the same time makes us laugh and it’s really honestly beautiful.

This was absolutely my favorite episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
This is the only time Kimmy Schmidt made me cry for real and not from laughter. This is a powerfully emotional song sung exquisitely by Titus Burgess. I think it’s his best song of the whole series. You can hear the pain and soul baring truth in every note. And see the tears in Titus’s eyes. He pulled from something personal in this performance. Something real from his own life. It’s just to honest and raw a performance to have not been rooted from personal experience. And it also shows his character’s growth and the self sacrifice that goes along with really loving someone. When he sings “Broke my wings so you could fly”, “true love is harder and true love is more work than pleasure. You lose what you love and pray it comes back to you better”, and then he hits that huge expansive crescendo note and bridge and he sings “true love is exhausting”; and it breaks me in two. Every time. I feel that so deep. I’ve been there. More than once. And still am sometimes. Because true love IS exhausting. It’s an endless giving of self and self sacrifice and sometimes that is exhausting. Been with my partner a decade now. And it’s still exhausting at times. Real love with a relationship or marriage that lasts any expanse of years will be exhausting at times. It’s inevitable. And that’s what love really is. There’s an amount of selflessness in true, real love. This song is the truth. So insightful, heartbreaking, beautiful and even has a few funny lines (it’s the reason I bought a Patty LaBelle pie a few years back at Thanksgiving 🤣). And it’s a truly beautiful vocal and emotional performance from Mr. Burgess. This episode should have won him the Emmy.

It’s not easy being able to tread on the tight rope between sad emotion and comedy, but this song does a good job at it. It makes me laugh but also tear up once it starts showing the footage of Mikey and Titus in their relationship.
