    Watch Looper Now: AAN.SonyPicture...
    In the year 2044, time travel has not yet been invented. But in 30 years it will have been... In director Rian Johnson’s sensational action thriller, Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) works as a looper, a futuristic assassin who eliminates targets sent back in time by a criminal organization. The only rule is that you do not let your target escape - even if that target is you. The rules are put to the test when Joe is called upon to “close his loop” and assassinate his future self (Bruce Willis). In failing to pull the trigger, so begins a desperate race against the clock as Joe begins to unravel his own future and older Joe’s past. LOOPER stars Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises), Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Piper Perabo (The Prestige) and Jeff Daniels (State of Play).

    2:02 I'm uncertain if it's intentional, but even their meals are arranged as mirror images of each other. However, their coffees (i.e cups of Joe) may signify their differing outlook on the future; Old Joe's is black and bitter, blind to any possibility for good, while Young Joe's cup is lighter, as he still sees light and hope for a better world. This is the vital detail that distinguishes them as opposites, rather than copies.

      One other comment said it best, he already knew he was dead the reason he rushed in even as his arms and legs were disappearing off his body is to spare him the memory of going through more of his life horribly disfigured only to end up at that same point anyway.
      I suspect that is where the danger comes in, kill him in the wrong way and the timeline might unfurl completely, its why they started with fingers and avoided cutting parts off of him until he was almost there.
      Take a pinky finger first and everything he has to do through the rest of his life is more difficult but not impossible.
      Its a really practical application of time travel I got to give them credit for what I thought was a silly action movie at first but has some pretty deep Sci-Fi elements.

    This scene is the writers saying to the public : our time travel story make no sense, but it does not matter to us. "IT DOESN'T MATTER !"
    Time travel story are hard, because there is a logical fact : you cannot change your past because if you do, you no longer exist as you are and thus you cannot change the past.
    There are only two possible stories :
    - the past cannot be changed, and the hero realize it
    - you create another timeline by changing the past, and both timeline coexist
    The third possibility is Dr Who : you make it silly so nobody can complain it is silly.

      changing the past and altering it completely can be two diffrent things. time is a river..it naturally flows one way, and it has a current....you can fight the current, even alter the flow of the river with the right equipment....but nature will reassert itself eventually. Putting it another way..they were able to make changes becasue all those changes STILL led to Bruce Willis getting in that time machine. but then a nexus point was reached, and the young version actually managed to create a new branch by eliminating himself. , which also eliminated Bruce from that particular branch.

      No, Old Joe only remembers the past as he previously lived it (he closed his loop, went to China, met his wife, and was attacked by the Rainmaker), not how it was changed by his time-travelling. If he understood he was doomed to fail no matter what, he wouldn't have returned in the first place. Think of it like rereading a story that was completely rewritten, or re-performing an improv comedy skit; you obviously recall how it went the last time, but that won't help you predict how it'll go this time.

      Nah. The older Joe is also having this conversation for the first time. He successfully closed his loop and went to Shanghai instead of let his loop run and be hunted down by the Gat Men.

    I sort of disliked and liked the ending of this movie. He intended to 'break the loop', but he more likely planted the seeds for the greater loop he didn't think of. There was always 'the first loop', where baby rainmaker grows up with a mother. Why would anyone go back in time to kill him as a child if he didn't grow up to be a monster, even though he was raised by his mother? So basically, him killing himself instead of the rainmaker is what he was supposed to do, in order to make sure the loop continues. He didn't break the loop. He completed it.

    • @alexsolomon8127
      @alexsolomon8127 Рік тому +1

      Hard to say.....becasue the movie conveniantly cuts out without showing us the new future. Our protagonist removed HIMSELF from events....but that's not to say the kid could still grow up and shut down all the other loopers because he recognizes them as a threat. point of fact that's most likely what happened because if he DIDN"T.....he would have simply woken up back at home with his life continuing on as normal if the rainmaker hadn't started closing all the loops, including his own...which started the whole mess. Instead, he stayed dead where he was.

    • @3869426384
      @3869426384 Рік тому +2

      Maybe his mom got killed by some random looper, so he grew up to take revenge on them. Which created the loop where Old Joe came back to kill him.
      Or Cid killed his mom by accident, and became the Rainmaker that way.

    • @KINGMOON444

      I always felt like the ending was rushed. There’s a really great shoot out with Bruce’s character but then it jumps forward like crazy and he’s all of sudden in front of Younger Joe. Also the whole side story of there being “meta” humans felt like it was overstretching the audience’s focus. The story of an old Hitman meeting his younger self is compelling enough without the added addition of some super powered human beings and what not.

    Honestly I got to go with young Joe, because old Joe is not understanding the fact he’s changing his own timeline; meaning for the fact he could save his wife but that doesn’t mean he would go back to her in his future, things would be different, like old Joe push young Joe to a different woman
