  • Sometimes hunts don't always go exactly as planned. This Montana archery elk hunt is a perfect example of doing everything right and still things can happen that are out of the hunters control. This film is dedicated to the life of Joe Knarr.

    This is one of the finest films I’ve ever watched. Thank you for your integrity as a hunter and your honesty as a storyteller.

    Monforton school
    Bozeman Senior High, 1986. Hunted the Gravelly Range for nearly 2 decades before moving to Sheridan, Wy and always dreamed of filming hunts. Matzinger is the benchmark of how great content is built. Huge Respect!

    Jason it happens too all hunters. Be thankful you found him cause you would have always wondered what happened. Cost you a tag but you got his rack and the memory

    This is a well-filmed and honest video. Thanks a lot for sharing. It definitely captures the highs and lows we go through sometimes - a lot of bow hunters have been in this spot before. Its great that someone with a big following and high-end sponsors sheds light on this unfortunate reality in such an elegant manner. It doesn't always pan out as you would like. Thanks for taking the time to make this video - it should bring in a lot of supporters.

    what a great video and an honest one you did what all hunters should do if you shoot an animal track it until you find it and take ownership of the life you toke . God bless and stay safe and better luck in the future ,

    Howdy Jason. Yep, it was a case of some bad luck. Perhaps meant to be and yet it did not go to waste. The predators have to eat too. This type of thing does happen to hunters and can't be predicted. It can happen to even the best of marksmen. There are plenty of TV shows that seem to never touch on this subject. You were real in what happened and your emotions were true. Thanks for the video. Later on Jason....

    I may have missed it but what part of Montana were you hunting in when you lost this Elk to wolves?

    The arrow looks like it penetrated enough. It looks like a good shot. What happened? Was it to high or far back? Try to learn from ir.

    Very good film. Still confused as to exactly what happened.... Did Wolves get the Elk? Was all the meat spoiled?

  • @Bullstodie
    @Bullstodie 7 років тому +3

    Awesome film. Glad you were able to notch your tag eventually.
    The bull looked almost broadside, but your arrow at 14:28 is almost coming straight out the rear quarter. Was that the original shot or a follow up shot.
    Not knocking you, just curious as to what could have happened?

    • @jasonmatzingerofficial
      @jasonmatzingerofficial  7 років тому +3

      Bullstodie yes the shot looked broadside to me when I let the arrow fly. Turned out he was slightly quartered more than I could tell in the heat of the moment... Notching my tag was the only good way to end this hunt.

    Just a question Jason, i don't hunt but is there any way in the arrows hitting its target that it could leave a tracker ( GPS )? just an idea . Or as i feel there is no way of doing so. Be a great help i feel to those deep and difficult location finds.

    I'm sorry but those damn g 5 broad heads got to go. I have seen this happen five times almost identical sercomestances . Until I... Well we made the switch. Loosing an elk now is a thing of the past .

    • @jasonmatzingerofficial
      @jasonmatzingerofficial  7 років тому +4

      Brandon Monday haha. Don't be sorry man, that's your opinion. This is the only time I've had this happen with G5 and would never change because of it. I could blame everything down to my fletchings if I really wanted to. Nobody will argue G5 has the most accurate and sharp Broadheads made. Truth is I would have found that bull right where he should have been had it not been for the wolves...
