    This is actually really smart how it works.
    Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the screen turns on its opening the filters that would normally allow the backlight to come through which would be coloured from the reflectors, but since there is no backlight panel, or reflector on the screen it just turns transparent.

    • @Ananords

    I was wondering if this was still being talked about, and done by case modders. I did my own snowblind mod, but my variation uses all plug and play componants that are powered off of the USB of the motherboard, including the display, granted it is more expensive than the tearing down an old scrap monitor like most people do method but, it is still cheaper than buying the case from ibuypower, and it can be done to virtually any case, and swapped between cases pretty easily. I bet even a small form factor pc could be done. Good work. I may post a video of my version so that people who want a version that doesn't require soldering can try my version.

    • @Ananords

      Take a continuity test between one of the mounting holes (often grounded) and the pins to find GND. Then, measure voltage between that pin and the rest. You can also try googling the serial number of the power supply and driver board.

    You know I'm curious why someone would give this a thumbs down. To me it's clearly a very clever build that was recorded and edited very well. A lot of hard work went into the build and the video production.
    One thing I'd like to add is that this looks like a great opportunity to use a raspberry pi zero to drive the display without using the PC's GPU. The Pi zero can easily do 1080P video with VNC access.

    Very nice tutorial.
    So if I get this straight the LCD panel is opaque until an image is shown on it? Like I won't be able to SEE into my case unless I have the LCD showing an image/video?
    If that's the case, how does internal RGB from fans/GPU/RAM interact with it?

    • @Ananords
      @Ananords  2 роки тому +1

      It's the opposite. The panel is transparent until it's powered on and showing a picture or video.

      @@Ananords hi one question, you will still need a strong backlight to be able to look through it right? or will it really be transparent when everything is off?

    What I don't really understand tho is, how do you know what voltage you need? And I guess you don't need an additional power cable going to the snowblind screen? But you would have to connect it to the videocard I guess right? And what did you pour onto the screen to get that front layer off? Just water? Or some kind of alcohol solution or smth? I got a few old screens around that I could use for such a project but I don't complety understand how this is done. Thanks for the vid tho.

    • @Ananords
      @Ananords  2 роки тому

      I measured the output of the old monitor power supply, and found out which voltages went to the monitor controller. The only power cable you need to the snowblind is a molex.
      I have connected it to the GPU with a hdmi to dvi cable. You can see how everything is connected at 10:28 in the video.
      Water worked great for removing the front layer:)

    Is this sharing a hdmi part of the computer or does it have its own display input from something else? What is the power requirements to run something like a transparent lcd panel, Can it run on 12v?

    Can you advise how you determined which pin to use as the 5v pin and which to use as ground as there are several!

    Should I use two molex inputs or can I use only one and connect the 5V to the two 5V pin and same thing for 12 V ? And what to do with these 4 GND pin ?
