The Bill Murray part was originally written for Sylvester Stallone but Stallone backed out just before we began shooting. The producers sent the script out to several other celebrities but no takers. We were actually already filming when Woody mentioned that his old buddy, Bill Murray, was also in Atlanta shooting a film called Get Low. Between setups, Woody called Bill and while we all stood around eavesdropping, Bill agreed. The writers got busy and the art department started making the BM for the front gate and a few days later we shot his scenes.

@@dereknolin5986 It was a fun shoot. I think we started at the amusement park, which is really in Valdosta, GA. When the girls were stuck on the ride, it was about 10 degrees that night! Later a tornado came through, just missing the park. Everyone was friendly and it was a pleasure working on a good script for a change!

For those who don’t know the banjo riff he plays during the supermarket scene is from the song “Dueling Banjos”. That song was featured prominently in the 70’s hillbilly survival horror movie “Deliverance”.

I first saw Woody Harrelson on the sitcom Cheers in the 90s, and this is what I always think of when I see him. He was hilarious in that, and pretty much stole every scene he was in. After that he started to get starring roles in movies and really got to show off how good he is at both comedic and dramatic roles.

Woody Harrelson is one of my favorite actors. I also fell in love with his acting on Cheers (80s, not 90s). If I see a trailer with him, I'll watch the movie. I don't care what it is. But legit, my favorite role of his is Haymitch in Hunger Games. Like, they're good movies but Woody just takes it to another level with his character.

The gas station attendant was Mike White.
He wrote the movie School of Rock and the HBO series The White Lotus that just won a ton of Emmys which is coming back for season 2 on October 30th.
Highly recommend binging that show for anyone who hasn’t seen it before S2 starts.
Oh and he came in 2nd place on Survivor and honestly deserved the win. Got screwed over by a bitter jury.

The funny thing about Woody Harrelson in comedy roles is comedy is all we ever considered him for back in the day watching Cheers. He played a cute idiot for 8 years and even he was worried he'd be typecast. He did win an Emmy though and 5 nominations so he was popular enough to get into movies which is what he always wanted anyway.
Right after cheers his first movie was in 92' with the lead in White Men Can't Jump. If you need a Woody comedy you can't go wrong but there's serious elements too. Wesley Snipes was huge at the time and Rosie Perez's role was parallel to Marida Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. I think her best performance and helped launch her career.
Anyway a year later in 93' Woody was in Indecent Prosal with Demi Moore which was also huge but such a far cry from his usual goofy roles. Then in 94' with Natural Born Killers I think most of us old farts who grew up watching him blown away at his range because even actors at the time typecast as hardcore couldn't compare to that performance alone let alone the polar extreme of where be came from. I compare to Keanu Reeves in that regard. While Keanu had serious roles initially he wasn't really well known until Bill & Ted and then we just viewed him as goofball. Even the martial arts instructor on the Matrix didn't initially want to work with Keanu because he thought he wasn't a serious actor.
But yeah, long story short "White Men Can't Jump" is an awesome comedy if you're going down the Woody Harrelson rabbit hole.

Bit of background. This was originally supposed to be a TV series, pitched to Comedy Central. The movie is, essentially, a slightly expanded pilot. "Zombie kill of the week" and the narration element give that away to a certain degree.
Zombieland is definitely one of my favorite zombie flicks.

The H2 Hummers get about 400 miles a tank.
Tallahassee number 3 on cars is a tribute to the Nascar driver Dale Earnhardt.
The characters in zombieland don't use their real name so they don't get close. Tallahassee and Columbus are named that way because that's where they're headed. I think the reasoning behind Wichita in Little Rock is they they're both from Little Rock Arkansas but Wichita ran away from home or she went to collage in Wichita Kansas.
I personally don't know what my "Twinkie" would be. Might be a split between Little Debbie Zebra Cakes or Nuddy Buddy. Personally I'd want some vanilla ice cream but most likely there wouldn't be no electricity.

I love this movie! I do acknowledge that it is probably the purest example of a film that, if you think about it for a minute, makes zero sense (they constantly waste ammunition, all the lights and water are still on, very inconsistent on what kills zombies, and all the characters combined have the tactical sense of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup), but it's just so fun that you go along with it.

Well first, there is a sequel to this. Zombieland: Double Tap.
For Woody Harrelson comedy, it's hard to beat his role on Cheers. The first and most long-running role he ever had on television. 196 episodes. He joined the cast in season 4 and was a big hit.
For good film roles (not necessarily all comedic)
    Doc Hollywood (supporting role)
White Men Can't Jump (with Wesley Snipes and Rosie Perez)
Natural Born Killers (with Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey Jr. and more. Trippy and violent movie.)
Money Train (with Wesley Snipes again. And Jennifer Lopez.)
The People vs. Larry Flynt (biopic)
Kingpin (comedy about bowling with Bill Murray and Randy Quaid)
A Scanner Darkly (trippy movie with Keanu Reeves, Wynonna Ryder, and Robert Downey Jr.)
Now You See Me (he has a good comedic role)
Now You See Me 2 (same)
Kate (He's in it, but his role is pretty minor. It's mostly Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but it's just a good movie. Netflix exclusive)
That's all I've got. Left some off that are good but he only has very minor roles. I'm also sure there's some in there that are great that I haven't seen. Woody Harrelson is amazingly talented with either drama or comedy.
Also, a little trivia. Woody Harrelson's father was a hitman named Charles Harrelson who worked for the mob.
