I hope this message gets to you. I love watching your videos. I like seeing you work on them and drive them. I am an autocrosser. I just received the Wendi Allen scholarship. I am really hoping I bump into you and your wife at one of the events. It would mean a lot to me. Wishing you the best in all your motorsports endeavors and this channel. Can't wait for your next video
Hello, Have you ever heard of a turbotecq rear differential booster?? It came out in the 60's on drag racing car. It used high pressure rocket fuel and burnt thru a turbine connected to the middle rear dif. It might not be the best for drifting but you want a hill climb racer or kick add burn out mashine. I bet tires would be gone quick and it would make a cool noise I'm sure, and you'd have a car no one else would have.
Hi Robert. Do you have any more information on the bearing caps and axles? Very impressed how you’ve managed to keep the diffs holding together with that much hp!
Hey Robert! Watching your video gave me the confidence to to rebuild mine, if I wanted to set the bearing tension as the workshop manual asks inbetween 14-30nm do you suggest doing that before or after torquing down the bearing end caps? Thanks!
I torque them down and then set preload. You can also snug them and get close if your just checking backlash and such. Doesn’t seem to make much of a difference
Hey so do you use Redline fluid for the carbon LSD? I read that ATS wants you to use theirs but said if you find a fluid that’s works then fine. I’m considering using AMSOIL. Also is the initial torque adjustable? What is yours set to?
It can take a bit to sort out what fluid works best for you. I run heavy weight shockproof from redline with 2 ounces of slip additive. That seems to break in ok. May take more slip additive initially for track use. The Giken is adjustable yes, I think the ATS is also by flipping plates if you need. However i would recommend running it straight out of the box until you feel like you need something different
Great video! Question for you - does the LSD need to be disassembled and rebuilt if it's brand new? Is that it possible to skip that step or is it something you recommend doing no matter what?
i dont think you need to when its new. i like to do it to make sure it wasn't assembled too dry. Perhaps check with the manufacturer for your specific LSD
Nice video, I have a HKS supercharged s2000 and scared of launching it as I have heard the diffs are very weak in these cars. It lives on track so is given a hard time. Is there anything you would recommend that could be done to help strengthen it so I can relax a bit with it?
Literally what the whole video is about. Follow the upgraded parts and hardware from the video. Change out the fluid for Heavyweight shockproof only if you are on an aftermarket plate style LSD. solid pinion sleeve. 12.9 bearing cap hardware, 4-5 thou backlash
@@Robert_Thorne8 hey yeh I know, just wondered as people say to replace the end caps as well? How much torque abuse do you think that diff would take now with those upgrades you've done?
For grip (I'm running Club TR, instructing at track days and some autox) is it safe to assume a 1 way is the better option vs a 1.5? I'm also debating between a 4.4 and a 4.57 for NA power levels ~270ish on god mode, but it is possible that i add boost for 2024 (that may have answered my question). Any input would be greatly appreciated. 🍻
@@Robert_Thorne8 thanks, I appreciate it. My s2000 4.7 diff is whiny, the faster I drive it’s make more noise. how can I know if it’s from the bearings or pinion? Thanks you!
@@Robert_Thorne8 I do not find where to buy the diff bearing cap bolts, do you know where I can buy 12.9 grade?. Or at least what is the spec/size of the bolts ? Thanks 🙏
hey Robert, I'm local and was curious if you could message me the labor cost for this sort of build with an OS Geiken LSD? the diff in my car works perfectly so nothing busted to start off with.
This is the greatest video on the entire internet
Awesome video Robert! I have built almost 10 S2000 diffs myself. I love using the solid pinion spacers.
Wilcox keeps saying I should change my FD to a 4.3 for my AP1. Funny enough I'm using your video to do so!
What are your thoughts on the 4.3?

Nice work Robert.
Thanks for the visit
Great great video 👏👏👏
Damn great video. Maybe I should send you mine as well 😂 I gotta get it out of the car first
This is very useful! Thank you!
Awesome video man, this is something I’ll eventually have to do to mine.

What’s the thread size of the new 12.9 cap bolts?

just curious what you think about the billet caps, snake oil or worth the investment?
i think worth it

Would still recommend a 1.5 way and 4.1
@@Robert_Thorne8 thanks for the tip! You just save me about $1k for a cryo treated 4.44. 🤘 I just ordered a 1.5 way.
Hello
Very nice video!!
Can you send a link to 12.9 bolts please?
And the tools that you use?
Thanks you very much!

Hey Michael, i will find a link for the hardware. i found these at a local supplier

Hmm, is it the 4.77 kia sportage ring/pinion? Generally if its making noise, something has come loose or is out of adjustment
@@Robert_Thorne8 yes it’s Kia. I need to find the problem.
