Been listening to this band for a few years now and I still rate Field Music as the most original and authentic sound of recent times. Just love 'em. Looking forward to 'Making a New World' and seeing the band live for the first time in Manchester. True grit from Sunderland. Brilliant.
Loved the "Abandoned Luncheonette" Hall and Oates vibe in the second half in particular I could feel some Steely Dan there too. Above all, good ideas and great workmanship. Thank you KEXP
Much more like Talking Heads than their previous oeuvre... I preferred their earlier, "Canterbury"-esque outoput, like 2012's "Plumb". Still, a very fine band, and FAR better than most "alternative" poseurs around.
Oh not really... Definitely a Mamas and Papas vibe and Roy Orbison is in there too with a wisp of Louis Armstrong and a load of Grand Funk Railroad and a feminine touch of Florence Foster Jenkins or is it maybe Sinead O'Connor. ?????
So many people don't 'get' this. She's only "screaming" her backing vocals on The Noisy Days Are Over. It's supposed to be ironic, given the title and lyrical content of the song.
Talking Heads meet Steely Dan.
+BDoug and XTC
Full marks for the use of the word "tret".
Great stuff. And you'll never meet nicer people in England than those in the North-east.

I saw them live at Rough Trade in-store and they were so good I cried. Literally one of the best bands out there right now IMHO.
Influence this, influence that. Bands good.
Fucking amen to that
Disappointed is such a damn good tune, I can really relate to it too. Almost a touch of Hall & Oats..
Yes, and also a very subtle Gang Of Four influence shows up on I'm Glad. I like this band!
sounds to me like the Talking Heads was a major influence for this band…
r u sure that the lead singer on dissapointed does not remind u of david byrne of talikig heads?
More Wire and XTC idve said
They're XTC with a touch more groove and soulful singing (no diss to XTC, I love them)
XTC for today!
Brilliant. Best music in a long time.
I love the Brewis Brothers...this song is brilliant . Talking Heads meets XTC. Cheers
"Tret" is a great word.
15:25 "In Sunderland, if we were to try to act like rock stars ..." Love that.

Met peter in my college days...proper dude...😎👍
Best band in Britain.
True. In the absence of SFA.
To the 13 folk who've disliked this - ah hope yer next shite's a hedgehog!!
Some stuff reminds me of 10cc, as well.
Yes! Good observation - FM are so original in so many ways but I certainly can hear the same influence 👍
They remind me of Gentle Giant lately but maybe no one remembers them....
I do :-)
So do I. Total GG influence.
LOVE Gentle Giant!
Yeah nice! lovely bass on Don't You Want To Know What's Wrong? and everyone else!!
Love these guys. They're like a British Steely Dan

Even Prince gave them his official seal of approval and called them funky.
and if you are listening to the new record "Flat White Moon" there is a lot of Beatles influence I think...
I can hear Bryan Ferry crooning this one out. Not very Talking Heads except for the keys.
Some mid/later Genesis too! The melodies and drum playing/tones...
Definitely a Yes vibe to them, especially a 'Yes Album' Vibe....
Grateful Dead coming through to me on keys

@@EnosEverything I'm getting Ennnio Morricone.
I have an OG copy of their first LP. It's incredible!
Wwwwwwwoooooooooooowwwww
This is just as good as Talking Heads.
was this before covid?
As 10cc fan I love this.
