I cannot begin to express how brilliant this song AND video are ! You are simply bringing XTC to the next level and... the next generation, with more twists and ideas that even Andy Partridge could come up with... and that's no small compliment (or achievement !). I got hooked to your band with your superlative "cover" of Syd Barrett's "Terrapin", and I couldn't fathom how you did that, and how it wasn't a hit single in its own right. Hopefully you'll tour in France some time soon... ;-)
I found this video elsewhere with the thumbnail looking like a semi-tuition semi-promotion thing....and of course once I saw David's cheesy intro and excess use of the hands I sussed, yes it's THE VIDEO OF THE SONG. Brilliant idea. Well done getting there before anyone did! Particularly like the standout percussion tip!! Ha ha as if any of that helps. :)
That verse is so strong, as soon as the video was done I hit play again. Looking forward to the new album. Also my thoughts and condolences for the deleted drums.
Love this band. They sacrifice mainstream for originality which means they'll never be rich but will always have a small cluster of unpretentious fans like moi.
Ha!!! That was bad ass!!! Seems the like directors cut with visual commentary that you never watch on your Blu-ray extras....but way better....of course! The chord signs were a delightful icing on the cake!!!
There are stories that John Lennon would wave his hand in front of his mouth to catch plosives and sibilance - it does work but it's REALLY hard to do. And the pen?... well, that's mostly nonsense but some engineers will put a pencil across the middle of the microphone head basket to stop pops and sibilance rather than use a pop shield. The taking a breath off mic is also mostly nonsense but search for "Chocolate Rain" to see the inspiration. 👍
Dear Field Music, thank you for the wonderful how-to! I find that I lack attitude, hip movement and basic charisma. I think that I also need to work on my schpliiiiing. Please help!
laughed out loud watching this. I have a question though: how can you credit the Beatles for your first la la la’s but not another iconic musical genius (pretty much circa 1987) for the last ones? 💜. Such a pleasure working with you lads and lass the other week. Cheers!
I'm very glad I have the same Epiphone as a guy in Field Music. This was really excellent, well done guys! You didn't mention heavily compressed drums, maybe on the next one... ; )
Love the new song and the 'new feature'. Be good to see more of these. But you forgot to mention the Prince guitar reference!... or does his estate clamp down on those too?! ;)
@@jaysing67 I'll be honest - this song is a homage to Queen so it's actually a reference to Brian May's not-very-good funk guitar in Another One Bites The Dust. Ha!
I'm hoping they might offer a beginner's pack (welcoming letter, plectrums, chord book, FM pen, FM car sticker)....with a FREE one month trial enjoying restricted access to more handy tips on things like studio housekeeping, how to roll up a guitar cable and not forgetting, their exclusive 'Chord Of The Day'....all of which will help the budding songwriter to write a Field Music song IMMEDIATELY!!! (removing my tongue from my cheek now, it's beginning to ache!)
Field Music are the anti-Oasis. Cool brothers that don't seem to want to kill each other. Also, they get what made old bands special and extract it, rather than copy-paste like that monobrowed goon Gallagher.

Brilliant you just get better!
Absolutely brilliant as ever, I squealed with delight at the self-referencing :-)
love that Simon Kirke impression on the drums
This is absolutely brilliant!
It's so good! Love the self deprecating humour, same as they are live.

Loved this!!!
The first two songs are phenomenal. Can't wait to dig into the new album. Great job on this video. Love the self-effacing humor. Keep it up!
Thank you Field Music, I love your content!
Love it. You're only gas.
Totally brilliant...Love this band. Great innovative video...really takes the rise out of instructional vids.
Absolutely love the way you've put this together! 😎
That line about using backwards sounds to make you sound like you know what you're doing in the studio - hilarious, and true
Not surprisingly, this is totally brilliant and entertaining. You continue to amaze!!
This video is absolutely amazing!

They're so good,it brings me back to my music lessons, agghhh! Love Field Music,Yeah'🎶🎸💚
Cracking bunch of lads and lasses, are FM.
I plan to name my next band "Predictable Guitar Solo" - thank you for the idea
should be on the school music curriculum ❤️
duuuudez... still so good. just as fresh as your first. cheers from Athens USA. the smirks at 2:19 priceless. lol
Love it! Thankyou x
Fantastic. Inspirational band.
Love this band. They sacrifice mainstream for originality which means they'll never be rich but will always have a small cluster of unpretentious fans like moi.
My new favorite band. Late to the party.
it's never late at the Field Music party, you're saved! go devour!
This. Is. Awesome.
Great video gang! Best part for me "This is the bit where my drums were deleted."
Poor Peter's percussion playing pulled properlessly (OK I had to make up that last word, but alliteration is hard).
@@ronbo11 Preposterously! Would have been a great finisher
Brilliant.
You make it look so simple.
the epic opening theme riff is spot on
I don't know what it says about me that I found recording that so satisfying. 😂
@@FieldMusicmusic It was spot on and yet still had that FM sound
NON STOP CONTENT!! Ha ha. That's exactly the sort of hellish thing someone on their music tuition channel might say!!
schpliiiing
I love you so much , Field Music.

Wow! Impressive!🤩🤩🤩😍😍
Joined your trip)
Brilliant.....I hope the Public Service Broadcasting lads do something similar!
Take care boys and girl.
I`ve just discovered this and it`s excellent 🤣❤
"It's got some knobs."
Ok. Peter's mic technique. I understand taking a breath off mic. What's with the hand wave and holding up a pen?

Great stuff!!
Non stop FM content? I wish! I suppose three albums in three years is close enough. Y’all some clever bitches. This is your best video yet.
12 out of 10. Smahinng a pastiche of early to mid seventies rock.
Always be arpeggiating
Fantastic in every way
Dear Field Music, thank you for the wonderful how-to! I find that I lack attitude, hip movement and basic charisma. I think that I also need to work on my schpliiiiing. Please help!
nice use of the "Pentel Pop Filter" pen technique!

Fantastic video and epic song. Thanks for doing this up. New sub 😉
Got it, thanks!
FM Brilliant as ever, ALMOST as good as the Rockist vid, which NEVER fails to amuse & delight!
Peter is so great in this! I'm sure singing while holding a biro adds a certain je ne sais quoi.
It's a scientifically sound method for reducing sibilance and plosives. Or it might be total b*llsh*t. 🤷♂️
@@FieldMusicmusic Of course! The Brewis Biro Method! I remember reading about it in Sound Recording School.
you dropped this after I'd been bingeing "guitar guy videos" for the last 10 hours and I feel attacked.
and also I love you all
It comes from a place of love and (too much) knowledge.
Fantastic!
I'm very glad I have the same Epiphone as a guy in Field Music. This was really excellent, well done guys! You didn't mention heavily compressed drums, maybe on the next one... ; )
I just realised the chap on the synth is Razzmatazz Lorry Excitement! (Apologies if I’m mistaken he looks an awful lot like ‘im!)
That's the guy. He's also responsible for editing together the video. Multi-skilled!
@@FieldMusicmusic it’s very nicely put together and such a great concept!
Superb! Can't wait for the record. Is that an Italia? I've got the Rimini 12- Shlang…
Yup. Italia Maranello 61.
Love love love🐿️
Great band can't understand why they never broke through
Because they are above the normal Joe soaps comprehension of whar good music.
As in they are wayyy too smart.
I love them
Broke through where? Where IS this magic place?
Genius 😁😁😁
Television meets ELO. And it works well.
Prince Rogers Nelson is smirking from the ether.
Absolute genius
PS. and the song's pretty damned good too
Love the new song and the 'new feature'. Be good to see more of these. But you forgot to mention the Prince guitar reference!... or does his estate clamp down on those too?! ;)
Which Prince guitar reference?!!
If you mean the at the end, I'd credit that style to Jimmy Nolen or Catfish Collins. And I imagine that's where Prince cribbed it too.
Yeah, the end one. I think I just thought it sounded more Princey in context :)

Love the piss take of "Rock School"
Beautiful ^^
Luckily I don't have to strain myself with music. I do it with LMMS. But my music is without a vowel.
More vibroslap!
Still laughing, XD. Oh so Status Quo is not considered cool? Darn. Anyway.. I love you guys. Schpliiing. 😂
