I managed ski 9 out of the 10. The one I didn't go is Madonna Campiglio which is a beginner resort. Thus the list could be the experience of a UK skier who books annual skiing package holidays. I differ by doing DIY skiing trip lasting usually two weeks and I always take the car to the skiing slopes. This allows me to ski more resorts in any one trip. Italy is one of the 14 countries I have skied and among over 140 resorts I tried 22 of them were Italian.
Canazei, Val Gardena and Cortina D Ampezzo are just 3 of the 12 resorts to me in Dolomites. Canazei and Val Gardena to me are just the 2 out of the 4 corner of Sella Ronda, the world's biggest skiing loop of 40km that can be skied in either direction. Cortina D Ampezzo is next door to the Sella Ronda, an hour drive from Arabba. Therefore I would refer to Gardena, Corara, Arabba and Canazei as Sella Ronda a loop most skier could complete in a day. Between Sella Ronda loop and Conrtina there is a road junction at Lagaruoi where one could take a chairlift up to ski the "Hidden Valley" which is totally shield from outside. At the end of the Hidden Valley there is a flat stretch that is served by horse drag! So it is full of fun if anyone ski the Sella Ronda in the mighty Dolomities.
The list includes Sestrieve and Sauze d'Olux which again is just 2 of the 5 skiing areas of the Milky Way that has Cesana, Claviere and Sansicario. Milky isn't well linked by one can ski to the neighbouring area easily easily. Going from one end to the other is challenging so having a car would be ideal. Milky also include the French resort Montgenevre. In one year I skied every area of the Milky Way. On exiting the valley to the French side I managed to ski Serre Chevalier, L'Aple Du Huez and Les Deux Alps on my way out by staying 4 days in Briancon and 3 nights in Bourg d'Oisan.
Cervina and Champoluc are neighbouring valleys access from the Aosta Valley. Champoluc is in an area called Monte Rosa with three resorts. The other two are Greeoney and Alagna forming the Trinity. It takes twice as long to reach than Cervina from the main road in AOsta Valley so it is very isolated. It is one of the skiing places where you may encounter one or two piste users when doing a run.
Cervina is linked with Zermatt which is no doubt the best skiing resort in the world but also the most expensive. No outside car is permitted in Zermatt so accommodation there is truly over the top. However one can drive and stay Cervina or Voltournenche and ski the whole Zermatt using chairlifts. I would say Cervina side is average price and Voltournenche is inexpensive.

yeah not so sure on the Madonna Di Campiglio being a beginners resort ! its got 47% Red runs, 21% blacks runs, totalling nearly 70% and only 30% Blue runs. NOT a beginners resort at all. its more an intermediate and advanced skiers resort.. ! seems you need to go there to see for yourself.

If only been to cortina, kronplatz and 3 Cime (Sexten area) - but Kronplatz and 3 Cime was clearly superior to Cortina in almost every aspect (slopes, infrastructure, views, prices...). So this list is a little irritating to me... Nevertheless, I want to admit that Cortina is unique and worth a visit especially for expert skiers.
