- Val Gardena is located in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage site with breathtaking views. It has become one of Italy's most popular resorts, particularly for families, intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
Val Gardena skipass offers 175km runs connected by 79 high-quality lifts. In addition, the Extended DolomitiSuperSki pass allows skiers and snowboarders to explore the more than 500km of continuous ski runs and 1220km total with nearby resorts like Cortina D’Ampezzo and Kronplatz.
Val Gardena was previously recognised as Italy's No. 1 ski resort based on its size, standard, and facilities. However, because of its location in Sud Tirol, a former Austrian region until WW1, the locals speak German, Italian, and a dialect known as "Ladin." Their approach brings you a passion for life, food, music, pleasure, and perfection by combining the finest of these cultures!

HOW TO GET TO VAL GARDERNA
Val Gardena is in the central Dolomites on the north-western flanks of Sella Massif. The closest airport is Bolzano, 45 minutes drive to Ortisei and 55 minutes to Selva Gardena. Innsbruck Airport, is around 1h45m to Val Gardena. The 3rd nearest airport is Verona with 2 hours and 10 minutes.
VILLAGES OVERVIEW
The main villages connecting the Ski areas are Selva Val Garderna, the highest village in the valley; Santa Christina, the sun-kissed village at the foot of the Sassolungo in the middle of Val Gardena and Ortisei, the largest in the valley and in our opinion, the most beautiful ski village in Italy. For people who want to explore the vast Sella Ronda area, the best place to stay is Selva Val Garderna because it is the best-located village directly on the circle of the Sella Ronda. If you have beginners in your group, we recommend staying between the beginner's area and the Ciampnoi gondola. There are some other great accommodations between the Ciampinoi gondola and Costabella chairlift if you don't have beginners in your group. Santa Christina is located in the middle of Val Gardena and is connected by the underground Funicular train (11) between the FIS world cup run to the north side of Val Gardena and Ortisei. The beautiful Ortisei connects directly to the Seiser Alm area - another area included in the Val Garderna ski pass and suitable for beginners and intermediates.
The accommodation prices of the three villages are around the same, which is relatively high compared to other ski villages in Italy. It lies approximately in the same price range as Corvara and Cortina.
SKIPASS
For 315€, you can get a 6-day ski pass for adults. This pass includes the Val Gardena and Alpe di Siusi ski region. For everyone except beginners, we highly recommend buying the Dolomitisuperski pass for 339€. Dolomitisuperski pass will let you do the sella Ronda circuits and ski in the connected ski areas of Alta Badia, Val di Fassa and Arabba-Marmolada. You can even ski in Cortina and Kronplatz, which are included.
Intermediates and advanced skiers taking ski school group lessons must have the Dolomitisuperski pass because the groups do the Sella Ronda circuits. However, if you are interested in exploring the other Ski resorts, watch our reviews linked at the end of this video.
RECOMMENDED RUNS
In Val Gardena, you can find runs of all difficulty levels. In addition, You will discover a unique variety of slopes with spectacular views. Val Garderna has an elevation of 1236m -2518 m with 52km of easy slopes, 105km of red slopes and 21km of black slopes. The skiing area is the largest of the many resorts of the Dolomitisuperski and one of the most beautiful globally.
Val Garderna is known for its “Legendary 8 ski runs” listing all its best slopes. We tried them all; watch our favourites in the video.
APRES-SKI AND NIGHTLIFE
After a hard day’s skiing, what could be better than kicking back, enjoying a few drinks and dancing to Schlager music with people from all over the world? So instead of heading straight from the slopes to your accommodation, consider stopping in one of Val Gardena’s excellent aprés-ski bars!
Our favourite apres-ski spot in Val Gardena is the Snowbar Ruacia; it is located just next to the end of the Saslong downhill FIS world cup run. It is the last stop for many skiers who stay in Santa Christina. Here you can be sure to find a party every day.
If you still have energy after dinner, this one is for you: In Selva, you will find the most popular club in the valley: The Luisekeller. near the Campinoi gondola, at the main street in front of the end of the ski trail crossing town.The basement has been around for decades. The opening hours are 3:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Note: it can get quite crowded!

oh man, Nothing beats the dolomites...
I’ve just returned from a week in Val Gardena. It’s the best ski resort I’ve ever been to. The scenery is absolutely stunning. I’ve booked to go back in January 2026! ❤
I was there, last march, residing in Ortisei. The feeling you get when you are in the first gondola arriving up on Seceda with blue sky, its undescribable... you just get goosembumps! The scenery is breathtaking, the runs are amazing. The size of the ski area is craaazy. I once went from Seceda to Alta Badia, Marmolata Glacier and Seiser Alm in one day. Also concerning crowded ski runs, stay off the main sellaronda circuit, those get packed and have mguls very erly in the day. Also a trip to Lagazuoi is a must-do if you're there.

Would you recommend to travel by car to Alta Badia from there? Or skip that and just stay in Alpe di Siusi !?

@jaimemg3541 nah you're totally fine in Ortisei. From there you have a lift leading to Alpe di Siusi and if you go to Alta Badia, there is a bus to Selva where you take a lift to Dantercepies, from there you have an easy blue run down to Colfosco. To go back, better take the bus, since the runs are more difficult

Nothing beats it! Freeride options a bit limited but other than that, it's definitely the best in the world. I've snowboarded and skied in almost all the main resorts in Italy going from the Dolomites to the Cervino (Matterhorn) and Mont Blanc, I've also been to a few resorts in Switzerland and France (and even in New Zealand) and I've never been to any other place that is so good with lifts and runs and where the views constantly leave you in awe. Speechless, every time I go back I'm just speechless. Again not even the view of the Matterhorn from the top of Plateau Rosà can beat Ortisei and Val Gardena.
Les 3 Vallées would also be up there for me
do you recommend Dolomites super ski pass for a family of four (with just about intermediate skill level) or just the Val Gardena + Alpe di Siusi area is good enough already for a 10 days ski?
Hey there, I live in Ortisei, Val gardena. If you rush the slopes all day long, you can see all of the valgardena skipass in 3 days. One day you do Seiser Alm/Alpe di siusi. Another day Passo gardena and passo sella. If you really plan to ski for 10 days then go for the Dolomiti Superskipass. And thank you for visiting us! :) @@terencetcf
Thanks @@luca_berna . Usually I spend at least 5-6 hours a day on the slopes, so I guess I probably will seen most Val Gardena in few days? Only thing is some of family members are not that good on skiing (they are comfortable on blue routes but find it hard on the red routes), so just not sure if just doing blue/green, would that stlil feasible to get the Superskipass? If yes, what are the recommended routes? We will be staying at val gardena st cristina from mid December
@@terencetcf definitely the dolomiti Superski...the sellaronda offers an incredible variety when it comes to terrains and views... definitely worth exploring and it's definitely not for advanced skiers... intermediate will love it, if you only do Val Gardena you might get bored in 3-5 days and Alpe di Siusi, unless you hit the big half pipes it's definitely only for the views and beginner skiers, as a boarder I hate Alpe di Siusi....its very very flat.... you'll be doing a lot of pushing and skating even on skis
My wife and I were there in July coming in from Garmisch Partenkirchen by train ,stayed in Ortisei . Beautiful ! We are hikers loved it , food , scenery, people , Ales gute! Relaxing stroll through Ortisei , each day on our way to and back from mountain walks . Prettiest alpine village. And without the need for a car! (just make sure you make the last cablecar) 6.00pm or it’s a long walk back!♥️👍

very very good review video, really well done. Something you can improve is the description under the video. Not as content but with a better formating. I think people, like me, want to take notes after watching the video and better formating will help. Keep going.
This entire region was captured by Google Earth in full 3D photogrammetry for use in Google Earth VR. And, there was snow on the ground when captured. That means you can actually pretend ski almost every slope seen in this video and all the others. Yes, you can go down the slopes right on the ground in 3D - VR and on snow besides. Sometimes you can see other ski tracks. For added realism you can go back and forth sideways and lean while you do that. And since it is fully immersive 3D you get the realism of the all the upcoming bumps, drops, and scenery below. I've done all of these things many times. Also pretend riding all the ski lifts and cable cars is another thrill beyond compare except for the real thing. Again all in fully immersive 3D. Very few ski areas in the world are captured in 3D this way and with snow on the ground too. My favorite is to start at Seceda as is the favorite shown here in this video. I also like the winding back run from there to Ortisei. Few people realize that this is what you can actually do with VR. I use an Oculus Rift but Google Earth VR does not run on the Quest 2 without using a PC. It is a Windows based program.

Was there last year and loved it! The views are amazing everywhere, and so are the restaurants. But as an intermediate skier I have to say that at the end of the day the slopes on the Sella Ronda runs got very rough (for me atleast lol). It is also VERY crowded all day long. I found that doing slopes that aren't on the Sella Ronda circle was way more fun, especially the Seiser Alm.

Or would it be better to drive an hour and go to Alta Badia instead, as it has plenty of blue runs? What would you recommend?

Yes you can! there is one from Ortisei to selva and another one from Alp sisisi ski area to St Christina

I cant really ski above 1800m, will it worth it if I go to this ski resort if I can only do slopes starting at max 1800 m?
If this is the case i recommend you to go to ski resort in Austria like Flachau, Skiwelt and Schladming. most runs in Val gardena are higher than 1800 metere.at least the first part of them. but i highly recommend you to drive there to see the beautiful area.
Alp Siusi has a lot of low altitude slopes , as well as Alta Badia.

Excellent review. I have always found that in the Alps, there are broadly 3 elements to assess a ski resort: natural beauty, culture (which includes the architecture of the villages, food, apres-ski and overall vibes) and the physical characteristics of the mountains. The Dolomites are pretty extraordinary on the first two counts. But natural beauty doesn't necessarily equate with top ski slopes. Some mountains are just better than others for skiing than others. And the Dolomites, with their vertical rock peaks, are not ideal. On the third criteria, the best area on this planet is the Tarentaise Valley in France (Courchevel, Meribel, Val-Thorens, Les Arcs, La Plagne). There, it's almost as if God had created these mountains for skiing. However, these resorts score less well on criteria 1 and 2. The best combination IMHO is Switzerland, particulary Zermatt and St-Moritz.

Why don't you add" Spa" to your reviews.? There is enough people which are more interested in Sauna etc. than in Nightlife.

And long ago and also today South Tyrol was and is a melting pott of different cultures and was oriented also to the south. Because during winter it was very difficult to cross the alps in the direction north.
For South Tyrol it is much better to be a part of Italy then a part of todays Austria
