Avoid the mistakes we made or decide if this is the ski resort for you.
I’ll take you on the piste, show you some bars and explain both of joys and frustrations of skiing in this high altitude resort.

by far the most useful video about getting from Cervinia to Zermatt, im heading there end of January start of febuary and have been looking for advice/information on how to get there and back from Cervinia to Zermatt and this video has answered so many of my questions so thank you.
Pleasures
This review is amazing. You have a real knack for giving the right information for families to choose where to go.
Now if you don't mind over the coming weeks going to about another 10 or so resorts and reviewing them for me to decide my next holiday. Tia
Haha thanks.
I presume you have seen my other videos on other resorts
My favourite is Saalbach / Hinterglem but limited accommodation and more for families with older kids. Serious Apres Ski
I’ve not done a video yet.
Brilliant content. UA-cam originally was for everyone to contribute to but it to some extent it is been taken over by highly polished production companies who do not really get into the detail which have. Many thanks for sharing.
My advice for anyone going to Cervinia, and starting your holiday , go up to plan Maison lift, then go up a couple of extra lifts and enjoy some amazing wide cruising blues back to Plan Maison , get your legs going and then decide what to do, I found myself spending loads of time around that section , really nice , also be aware that they shut the connecting cable car connecting Zermatt a lot !!! I loved Cervinia , some really good skiing
The thing you haven't really talked about is the amount of vertical km you can do in Zermatt-Cervinia. It's probably the only ski resort in the world that has multiple 10+ km long pistes. Also, the Zermatt side is known for opening all of their pistes a bit later than Cervinia. You were there in mid December, a bit early in the season. Zermatt is best in february-march, even april.
I heard this a lot but was there January and I was at the top at 8am every morning.
@@DMC619 I am going there next month. Any tips??
@@MrMaxLions I’m heading in the morning, they just got a dumping of snow. Just enjoy yourself is all I can say, loads of food options on the mountains, and as said above the runs are super long so you get a lot of skiing in. You can do a different side each day if you want, or you can cover a huge amount of distances in a day.
I went to Cervinia in 1981 for a day because Prato Nevosa had melted😮 (it was in March) It was a very memorable day because our skiing holiday hadn’t been ruined after all. Thanks to the glacier, we had a great day. Great skiing! No mention of the high altitude though. I was seeing stars in my eyes at the very top. Still great fun 😊
What a great honest review!
Zermatt has increfible scenery along with the best sking there is
Nice running commentary!
Thanks for the video!
Do you know if it's easy to park in the center of town? I booked something really cheap 1.3km away from the center. There's a lift close to my hotel but it's not connected to the main part of the resort.
Sorry can’t remember.
i must have you Andorra video around 10 times now, I had considered Cervinia, as an alternative now we have done Andorra 3 times, but apart from the Matterhorn, it doesn't seem worth it, and I think my wife would very much find it challenging given she really only likes easy blues for now.
And Andorra is such great value too. It’s tricky. There are so many great resorts in Austria, but a lot of them are quite low and currently the snow cannot be guaranteed.
I haven’t done a video on Saalbach. It is my favourite area with plenty of blues and some great apres-ski.
Also check out the resorts around Soll.
Both need good snow and cold conditions
Maybe wait until there’s plenty of snow and then pick up a last minute on the cheap
Thanks for watching
Im curious to know what your top 10 ski areas are?
@@blairmacdonald3657 that would be very difficult as it depends on the time of year, your budget and who you are going with. if I knew there was going to be snow, Saalbach Hinterglem would be my number one every time for the extensive and varied skiing with probably the best apres-ski and atmosphere, you’ll find anywhere.
The whole area is just too confusing. I couldn't find an online piste map which is a bit ridiculous considering the Cervinia-Zermatt are is one of the most popular for skiing in the world.
Can you share what were the restaurant prices on the slopes and in the village? How much was beer, pasta, pizza, etc? :)
The food in Zermatt is a lot more expensive than Cervinia. When I was there last year I stayed in Zermatt and did most of my skiing there and then lunch was over in Cervinia
Sorry didn’t eat out much.
Some expensive restaurants around Zermatt
Otherwise typical prices
Kind sir, can I ask what are your favourite resorts?
Saalbach / Hinterglem is right up there with a massive ski area, great lift system, lovely mountain restaurants and amazing apres ski. The only down side is the resort height if it’s a poor season for snow. Saint Anton links to many other resorts so also great
I also love the Porte du Soleil and Three Valleys. Downs sides are French prices and attitudes.
Austria wins for fun and a great atmosphere on the slopes
Sorry. Not skied the states or Canada but mets loads of people who come to Europe instead of skiing on their doorstep.
Thanks for the review, was EXACTLY ON POINT with great information! I was really angry that i didn't get to visit Cervinia-Zermatt .
I booked pension in Solden and plant to also visit Ischgl, St Anton am Arlberg, Hochgurgl and Obergurgl. Do you have any recommandations for Ischgl or St Anton am Arlberg?
Can you qualify your definitions of beginner vs intermediate? I am going to Zermatt next week, this is my second year skiing and I would consider myself an intermediate which in my mind is "I can ski anything that is groomed". I do struggle a bit on a very steep groomed blacks, and blacks that have been scraped off and are icy scare me as well. In the US there greens, blues, blacks, and double blacks, so classifications are had to translate. And camera does not show how steep the run really is...
So, how long does it take to get from the Bottom of Cervinia to the town of Zermatt? Do you have time to walk around Zermatt little bit and make it back to Cervinia? Tnx 😀
Yes very easily done. If you are decent skiers you can ski a lot of the Zermatt area.
You don’t have to rush there and straight back.
Cervinia with good lifts compared to other resorts in Italy??? Yeah nah if you move east a little bit lifts get better and better and as you get to the Dolomites they are just world class, nothing shy of top Swiss standards that you might find in places such as Laax
no man, they are great in sud tirol but they suck in most smaller resorts in north italy. extremely slow.
@@GP-qi1ve i usually just hit La thuille, Gressoney, Cervinia or Sestriere/Via Lattea, Madonna di Campiglio or Pampeago/Obereggen/Predazzo (Latemar Ski) or Val Gardena, these are my "locals/go to places" (hit them all at least once this season), so I'm not too sure in the smaller resorts but I would skip those altogether anyways...what i know is that i almost never have to queue to get on the lifts.
Gonna head to Livigno this weekend, will update on the conditions of the lifts there.
What is in your top 10?
Very poor I'm afraid. Very disjointed, no real info and certainly no real understanding of this huge ski area. You didn't even begin to scratch the surface of Cervinia/Valtournenche (VAL_TOUR NENCHE, not Valtourneche). How you can claim this is expensive is rather laughable. You seemed to spend the vast majority of your time in Switzerland, which is damned expensive and everyone knows that. PS.. you can ski here for 22km non-stop, yes non-stop... all the way down to the cable car at Valtournenche!
Good morning
One of the worst least knowledgable ski resort reviews i have ever seen
@Jonesy brom agreed. I want the 44 minutes of my life back.
@@spartanthe300ththermopylae4 unless he made you sit and watch it that's on you ....
Much of your critique could have been avoided by reading the piste map.
This is quite a strange video. You state a few times that the amount of skiing is limited (it is not). Lots of the skiing on the Cervinia side is left untouched, almost as if you didn't know it was there until the end of your week. You also seem to choose some very strange routes, with quite odd and hard to follow instructions/tips. Worst of this is you complain multiple times about the flat blue run once entering Switzerland, but seem to completely ignore the red alternatives. You also complain multiple times about the "boring" red to Furi - it is dull and has long flats. But completely ignore the black alternative (it is not at all difficult). All round a very strange perspective.
As a seasoned visitor to the region I bow to your experience.
However the title of my video is “ first impressions “
If I return I’ll maybe have a different impression.
