Thank you, really liked the idea of getting parents in to do the phonics. I'd also like to perhaps have an evening class for parents but that is a big time commitment. I think we need to be careful about 1+2 in Scotland. As was pointed out, pupils are getting "tasters" of languages and not able to say very much in any of them. For 1+2 to be a real success, there needs to be more time on the timetable to get that depth of learning. Two languages cannot be taught in 3 periods (or fewer) with sacrificing something. I think we need to revert back to the two-year level 5 courses which would allow pupils to pick more subjects (including a language), which would then give a bigger pool of candidates for further study.
