A 2 string bass, a couple cymbals, a snare, a bass and a floor tom, 2 tenor saxes and more talent than ten million current "artists". I miss these guys a lot man.......
My favorite part of this video is the isolated snare pops at 2:45 .. that is badass. I like how they break it down completely and build it all back up, and that's the moment it all hinges on.
This vid is a great document to understand that even the best musicians can fail. Mark was a man who was not frightened to take some risks. Changing the tuning of a bass on stage is one ;)
Thanks for uploading this video !! I owned a copy but sadly lost the videotape....... This is for the greatest band ever, MORPHINE !!!! Mark, I salute you, and thank you for your great music legacy.
@ajas95 I don't know what I like better. Mark Sandman playing that slide bass or when he's palm muting it and you hear that "thumping" sound. That guy was AMAZING!
If someone knows how to put this same video, but without that buzzing in UA-cam,, please do that I beg. It hurts ears when listening with headphones full. This is art
I don't know Morphine well enough to tell you, but he certainly could've. Tuning in 5ths allowed him to play in major or minor keys equally, whereas if he tuned in 3rds, you'd have to choose either major or minor. Its much more versatile. From what I have heard of Morphine (I only own 2 albums), its mostly 5ths.
The simple fact that this band is so underrated is proof that the phonographic industry sometimes sucks! Sandman lives!

2 tenor saxes? baritone + tenor
Amen
Smashing Pumpkins opened up for them at this show.
Indeed 😊
Nothing more to add …❤
RIP Billy Conway ❤
Wait he's dead too?
Eh sì purtroppo...da quasi tre anni ormai...
😢😢😢
When two worlds collide - no one survives , No one survives -- I love this tune and morphine - rip mark - uda man
Two chords, infinite feelings. I love you, Morphine.
Unique band, thats why I can play any song and enjoy it like the first time. Mark Sandman was a true genius.

One of the greatest songs ever written
And, this is a humdinger if you’ve sung it 100x yourself driving at night

Oh, they were so great, and some of the best musical talents of the time morphed thru, into, and around that bonfire, still a few today

Etched in my bones
2 strings, open-tuned in 5ths, so he can essentially play mini chords with the slide on his left hand.
It's an amazing song!
It dosen't get much more stripped down than this. Such a fat sound coming outta that Sax! Gave me goose bumps So Cool Thanks for sharing
This bass..

At the moment I type this, 0 people dislike this video. That gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside =)
my inspiration.......
I have DREAMS of playing a beritone saxaphone AND a 2-string slide bass guitar...
Lol, gotta love morphine, a new version of all of their songs pop up every day it seems, and they are all classy in their own way.

this is the reason I wanna learn to play the saxaphone.
RIP and sorry that your brother passed when you were so young.
@pigfarts992 It's a Premier of some type. They're not common, I've never seen one on eBay although I don't look often. A company makes reissues.
🔥❤️🔥
@pigfarts992 BTW, Mark replaced the stock pickups with one split Fender P Bass pup.
Que grande el batigol tocando el saxo
Morphine - Buena :)
MOTHERFUCKING GENIAL!!!
Motherfuckin', fuckin' GENIUS!!! :)
I remind you that there is an album called DARK SIDE OF THE MOON!!!

Dire Straits had a sax player on various live shows and some sax arrangements in many songs
I gotta point this out, he opens with the wrong lyric and you can see him switch back. He switched soo fast I thought it was a cut at first.
thank you.
this makes sense.
did mark use any other tunings?
What kind of bass did Mark play? It looks sexy.
@101Volts Oh. I think I've heard of one, but maybe that's just my imagination. Anyhow, nice friggin' bass and unbelieveable sound.
Yes, in the beginning. But as he is the only oone playing, he cant really be in or off tune, its an intro made by him...
if playing of key was a contest
you guys won the match
Man i feel horrible when i see my bass have 4 strings
buena loco0o0o0o0o0
Les Claypool was a huge fan of Mark Sandman.
The Smashing Pumpkins played their set right before Morphine at this festival.
@101Volts Nice :D
What's up with the 2-sting bass he plays? Is there a reason behind that?
Yes. By limiting himself he opened up a world of possibilities. A true visionary on his instrument and as a song writer.
also it is messy to play with a slide on a 4-string bass. Much easier on 2 strings
Mark Sandman used to say you only need one string to play, but he was spoiled a little, so he used two 😄
Just wondering, but what do you feel this recording lacks?
passion
more 2 string bass and perhaps cowbell
Ity's called Buena, from cure for pain
Who the hell says that o.0
Too much analysis, not enough absorption...
Thank you.
flojas desafinaciones por momentos
aguante morpine igual
Morphine in vain
he's so out of tune, it's difficullt to recognize this song
No it's not. Maybe you should have that checked.
visiorocky YouSir are a clown!
youve obviously never played slide on a stage
He def is out of tune
And its sounds fucking amazing
really off tune, he looks like he's coming off a lot of drugs and hasn't eaten.
