RIP the two members of Morphine Mark Sandman (September 24, 1952 - July 3, 1999), aged 46 Billy Conway (December 18, 1956 - December 19, 2021), aged 65 You both will always be remembered as legends.
I only discovered them from buying a large book of CDs from girl who was looking to sell them at at pawn shop in Terre Haute, IN back in '94 where the shop owner said "you can't sell those to a patron in the store, you have to go outside". We went outside and I bought 20+ CDs from her, Morphine being one of them. Love them. Saw them play at the Hord Fest in Chicago in the mid-90s opening for Neil Young and Crazy Horse in a rain storm. Everyone ran to there cars except for about 800 fans. The house lights came on in the pavilion like we were in a garage. Neil Young rock the fuck out of it. Not long after that Mark Sandman passed away. I still live listening to them. RIP. I hope you all enjoy. Peace...
Thank you so very much for sharing this story with us! Sometimes our own memories are the only things left to keep us going in a Positive Way! You are appreciated.
I'm also thankful that you shared this story. The history of rock-n-roll isn't just about the bands and their music, it includes the fans that hear that music and their stories and memories. I've been collecting music and the stories around it for over 50 years now, and I've found out that it's the personal stories, as told by the fans, which help create our community. Anyone that goes out to see and experience live music has a story to tell. If you go out often enough, it's possible to meet the music makers on an individual level, since we're all human after all. I encourage people to tell their stories. I could tell a story about almost every piece of music that I love, from folk, to Blues, jazz, soul, hip-hop, country, classical, and opera. Telling stories makes us more human, and can help us understand others. Thanks again
The band that changed my life, my mindset about heart ache, the human condition, suffering, and love!!!! No greater band exists that so eloquently pours in to the human psyche as much as Morphine does. And added bonus Mark Sandman voice...sexiest of all time.

I was lucky enough to see these guys in a boutique style nightclub in Brisbane earlier in 1999. Just before they continued the tour to Townsville were Mark O.D.d apparently on morphine. Sooooo sad, such talent and individual sound. 1 of my top ten live acts.

Contrary to popular belief Mark did not die of a drug overdose. Nor did he use hard drugs. He smoked pot, and maybe did acid. That was it. He died of a heart attack.

One of my favorite bands ever. Much love to Morphine!
Me too! ❤
Same…so sad
I'll never get tired of playing this song. Thank you, Mark Sandman.
He needs to get really really famous someday, post-mortum, like all the other famous artists out there. It'll come, I can feel it.
They were/are the coolest. Sandman was a visionary
There will never be another sound like them.
HBD Mark, forever missed, never forgotten.
The world is not the same without him ♥
Even in sobriety this song carries so much weight. “Testify” Preach!
“Where’s all that money that I spent?”
Every damn line is spot on.
Little nuggets. Every line is gold. Such a Great song
All that money spent and I ended up in withdrawal. That life is hell.

mid 90's where new music came from weird names scribbled on disks in cd books, I spent some formative years time in Indiana then, too. fond memories

Awesome before he died. Saw them in Denver 1990s. Live was just like their cd. Best live band ever!
That's SO sad, he looked pretty high on something in the live video there, sad to hear he didn't turn things around in time.
I'm just trying to figure out. . .have you ever seen someone perform AFTER they died? (Sorry, couldn't help myself, just love word play.)
I played their album every day back in the day. never seen them live
yeah cause hes dead
I was fortunate enough to catch them in Charlotte at Tremont Music Hall. What a truly, incredible live performance!
