At 73, everytime I put on a vinyl recording, it's like an instant nostalgic time machine transporting me right back to the day I first heard it. My best friend is a Sports Junkie who just dosent understand my passion. I get criticized by friends just like you do which is even more confusing because they grew up the same way I did listening to records. I'm so happy to hear someone like you that's not afraid to stand their ground .Don't let anyone take away your passion
My ladyfriend and I try to go out every weekend or at least every other weekend to look for vinyl in both our wantlists. We both are very passionate about our love for vinyl collecting and since we are both in our middle sixties, we feel we don't have to explain this to anyone, not even our closest friends or relatives. You're right, this is what makes you get up in the morning, it's what makes you feel alive! Don't let the folks that aren't into music, or music collecting, make you feel uncomfortable Melinda! Melinda - life is short. It's wonderful to have things in your life that give you excitement. I'm old enough to be your grandpa. I had a small collection while growing up in the '50s and '60s, but nothing compared to yours. I can remember going into our basement and blasting a new Beatles album before my parents got home. What joyous memories they are. I also have a fond memory of when I was dating a young lady (around 1970) and turning up the volume in her basement on Big Brother and the Holding Company - Janis Joplin. I never realized at the time that what I was listening to was to become unforgettable music, including the British Invasion, the Bee Gees and many, many more. Those were great times. You are experiencing this at a later age, but enjoying even more, knowing what the history is behind those groups. Happy collecting. Sad about your daughter flying the coop, but it will only make you (and her) stronger. Stay well young lady.
I'm 62 years old and retired. If it wasn't for my passion of collecting I would be dead now. I have always had records, collected them, and still enjoy them. None, and I mean NONE of my friends have ever understood my collecting. Some people really don't mean to hurt your feelings, and don't understand the effect that there words can have on you. I feel sorry for those people. One of the things that I hear from a lot of my friends is how bored they are. What are we going to do this weekend? Where are we going to go? Well guess what? I'm never bored! I always have something to do, and my passion for collecting (not just records) is what keeps me going. If I ever met you in person I would love to talk about your collection and everything records. We could talk for hours because I get it. Your reference of having books on shelves is a good one. People see that as normal. But fill those shelves with anything else and they have a break down! My final thoughts - sometimes people put you down because they see you as happy and content with your life and choices. They have nothing to do and want you to be like them. Yes friends can be friendly and hurtful at the same time. And when they are hurtful its really there pain that they pass on to you. Yep, I'll be the outcast, and proud of it. I'm happy, I have my family, my health, and my passion for collecting. Don't need anything else.
Life on this earth is relatively short, Melinda. The passions you choose to follow and take joy in are your own prerogative. Pay no mind to any negative comments about your hobbies. I too began a collection a few years ago and while I hear people's opinions, I choose to ignore any negativity and simply move forward. It's vital to remember that pleasing everyone is an impossible task!
Well my attitude is usually I couldn't give a flying shit what other people think of my hobbies. In fact, I couldn't care less what other people think of me in general. I ignore all of them. There's NO VALUE to trying to please other people as it gains YOU nothing.
Hey Melinda love your Channel. I'm a cd collector who enjoys music for many reasons such as: Introspection/meditation, motivation/energy. I collect because I listen to various music based on mood and feelings throughout the week. Both of my parents passed away this year and I have bought many smooth jazz cds. That has helped me stay positive all while processing it all. Believe me 20 years ago, I wouldn't have been open minded to that genre. There are way more folks like yourself than you could ever realize. Music is Spiritual and good for the Soul! Rock on Melinda!!!

Melinda, without a passion life would be boring and a waste of time. People do collect things, they horde books, stamps, works of art, sports cards. You and I collect Vinyl Records and in my case CD’s as well. Yes I’ve been looked at strangely when they found out I collect Vinyl Records. But it is a passion of mine and will remain so. I only have 218 Vinyl albums and a load more CD’s at the moment. Both collections will increase during the time I have left. Sadly I’m an old guy so my collecting years are decreasing fairly quickly in reality. I will make sure my passion does not cease in the time I have left to me. Even today I purchased Joe Bonamassa’s latest album. Long live MY Jazz, MY Blues and what I call Vintage Soul records because I will collect you. Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. You’re not alone, I love your videos Melinda. Just keep producing them. I thank you for your enthusiasm, your passion, your knowledge. Ignore those prophets of doom. It was announced on the radio here today that Vinyl purchases are at all time high. ‘Nuff said. Some people just don’t appreciate the pure quality of analog recordings. I am old enough to have been around when everyone was purchasing records and later cd’s and of course now digital streaming but I have always preferred a hard copy rather then a digital download. Although I found cd’s the most convenient there is something special about listening to an LP as well as being able to read the inside and outside of the album cover “without eye strain”. So don’t get frustrated, just keep doing what makes you happy and crank it up. Rock on!

I am a fellow vinyl collector. My dad, who passed away 8 years ago, collected 45's and jukeboxes. He had hundreds of thousands of 45's, and knew mostsongs by artist, song title, and label. I love carring on his love of music with physical media. On a crazy side note, my dad went to Nashville to cut a 45 record around 1976 and there was a new country group there recording thier first 45. They agreed to send my dad a single if he sent them one as well. Wildcountry (the name of the group) held up their end and sent out a 45. I got it after my dad passed away. Wildcountry later changed thier name to Alabama! Keep up the good work!
Don’t let it bother you Melinda. I am 60 and my sound system, despite derision from philistines, gives me endless pleasure. They make me get out of bed every morning. Just for the prospect of listening to my vinyl records.
DON’T LET ANYONE TAKE AWAY YOUR JOY! The memories you’ve made on the road-trips with your husband are something very special that you’ll cherish one day as you flip through your records. I’ve been very lucky to surround myself with friends that respect my vinyl collecting passion even though they may not be collectors themselves. I have no place (or time) in my life for friends that are judgmental of my hobbies or passions. If you ever come to NYC give me a shout and we’ll go record shopping together!
Follow your dreams and be yourself. Im going on 70 years old. Music has been important to me since I was 4 or 5. Today, it's as important to me as ever. My collection is big and I listen to music every day. Listening to my old albums always take me back to different times in my life. I listen to music now with years of experience behind me, and because of that, I seem to hear the music differently now. I still love it, some more, some less. But, a lot of times, it's a spiritual experience to me because I feel it in my soul. Do your thang girl. It's all good.

I’m not a collector of vinyl as such but I do collect all things Springsteen vinyl and CD related including bootlegs. I've had many people tell me that buying vinyl is a massive waste of money and sometimes I sit there and go "hmm maybe they're right" but its something that makes me happy. All you can do is what makes you happy with your life
If the process of collecting something brings you pleasure then the purpose is served. Whether you actually use the things you collect isn't relevant, the process of acquiring them has brought you joy and what happens after that is secondary. I have this conversation with people in my bookshop quite a bit. They'll say something like "I shouldn't be buying more books, I've got lots at home that I haven't read", at which point I'll remind them that collecting books and reading books are two completely separate hobbies and they should not be confused. I know I've bought plenty of books I have no intention of reading, but the process of acquisition brought me pleasure so whether I ever read those books is secondary. Same goes for records. Ever bought a record you haven't played? It's the same thing. It sounds like a cheesy sales pitch I know, but that doesn't mean it's not true. You're not really buying a book or a record, you're buying a feeling. That you get to have something tactile to take home as well is just a bonus, it's not the whole reason. As long as you can afford it and justify it (don't be spending money you don't have) you should never feel guilty about it. That's today's philosophy lecture over, thanks for reading 🙂
Dear Melinda I am 75 years old and I live in the UK and love your channel. I have been collecting records since I was 12 and have a room full of thousands of LP's, Singles and CDs. I totally understand your sadness but please don't let it get you down. Our hobby is a great passion as is fishing, golf, cars or any other hobby. It doesn't matter if friends don't understand the thrill of seeking out different pressings to find the best sounding one, I have many versions of the same album! Also that thrill of getting home with a new album, and putting it on the turntable for the first time, admiring the artwork and reading the cover notes. Who are the musicians? Who mastered it and so on! On the flip side of friends who are not into this hobby I have made many good friends through the hobby and we enjoy spending musical evenings together, sharing each other's music, a great way of discovering music that might otherwise pass you by. I have also a great bunch of friends who enjoy the components of an audio system and I have a great dealer who guides me through my equipment buying choices. People would never understand why we might pay thousands for a piece of wire to connect up parts of our systems, but then I must respect my friends who think nothing of spending in excess of £50k for a car! I am just thankful that music is my passion and my life and without it I would be lost and that I am in a position to afford to support my hobby. So please continue doing what you do and enjoy this wonderful hobby. Best wishes Michael
It can be very hurtful. I've been called a bit "odd" , an"outlier" and in one instance, someone said it was "weird" that I enjoyed playing records especially being a female with an ethnic background . I try my best to ignore these kinds of comments. Thanks for sharing this very personal video, You videos are inspiring...keep up the great work.
I love when I see a young lady collecting Records. We need all genders and ethnicities to help keep the Vinyl passion alive and well. I asked a young lady one time at a Record Show what she listens to her records on? She said she has a phonograph. I told her that's wonderful and to kept collecting, and that I started listening to my records on a phonograph. Seems crazy and racist to view you as "odd" or "weird" because of an ethnic background who likes to collect records. Don't let anyone discourage you from such a fun hobby. Streaming music through earbuds, blue-tooth or any other method, doesn't compare to the enjoyment of handling a record album, reading the credits, who played what instruments, the art work, the experience of putting the vinyl on the turntable and taking it off and having a physical connection to the music you love. It's like owning a diamond or a piece of gold to treasure.

As an adult collecting vinyl records in the 80's the feeling your talking about I experienced back then. Adults that spend time collecting anything on experience to the same alienation. Hello Melinda! The way I see it ; this is our hobby. Hobbies are something you’re passionate about. They can’t be fully explained. Those who complain about anyones hobby , most likely don’t have any themselves. Hence , they don’t understand the passion. Maybe they’re even a little bit envious to see your passion about something. I don’t know if I’ve told this before but , A’s oldest friend moved back to our town. Her husband and I hit it off at once. He wondered why I collected vinyl. ”You know everything is on streaming , right?” I played him some Hendrix , Nirvana and The Meters. 4 1/2 years later , he now has a HUGE 70’s-80’s heavy metal collection. And I do mean HUUUUGE ! Wasp , Accept , Saxon , Iron Maiden , Deep Purple , Black Sabbath , Van Halen , Motörhead , Rainbow , Metallica , Led Zeppelin, Judas priest , Slayer , Pantera , Manowar , Dio , Anthrax , Scorpions , Megadeath , Dokken , Budgie and so on. Melinda I don’t understand why more women aren’t into music collecting! From what I see it’s a more male dominated pursuit and I’ve never understood that. The same as Audiophiles and people into HiFi equipment, it’s mainly male! I think you are outstanding I’d love to know what turntable , speakers, amp etc you use. Best wishes!
Hi Melinda, Records and CDs were with me all my life and let me survive the most difficult moments. Understand you very well; as you mentioned, you are not alone in your passion. Unfortunately, we don't have around us people with the same passion to share our happiness with them. But thank God, people like you make their channel to share with other vinyl lovers your passion. As for me, I suffer from suicidal ideation. Collecting records is my form of therapy. Of course people will see it as weird or unusual. But it helps and helps me get my mind back on track. If it makes you happy, then do it. They probably collect things themselves. It your happiness so do it.

Loved this video, it seems to hard for many people to understand interests/passions other than say: getting the latest I-phone, sports etc. Sometimes these comments are not easy to just shrugg of so it felt sincere and vulnerable that you talked about it.
I’m very lucky in that I have one good friend that is a fellow crate digger. He has a great collection and he is also a electronics lover who has gifted me many pieces of equipment. I always try to pick up stuff to gift him. Like you, I can’t really talk about records with any of my other friends, but they tolerate my passion and think it’s amusing. My wife doesn’t share my vinyl addiction, but supports my hobby and the time I spend making videos. We’re all here for you Melinda. Cheers.

Now I get excited everyday to revisit my old hibernating collection and hunt for the next pearl. My newly found hobby fills a dark place of isolation with joy again. Thank you for this open and honest video. I got into record collecting and CD collecting when I was a child. It only intensified as I became a teenager. I had a very solid collection that I WORKED very hard for. I took on odd jobs and a part time job to buy all the records I wanted. My parents, especially my step-father would trash me over my collection all the time. I would hear "why do you waste money on this crap?" or "who cares about owning the records, just listen to the radio where music is free!" or "why do you support these druggies and Satan worshipers." When my grandparents came from out of town, they would demand I not mention my music and put my records away. But I kept going because it brought me joy! I was lucky enough to meet a woman who I would end up marrying. She had a small collection of her own. She looked at all my music and said "WOW! I really love this!!" I know it will sound dumb, but we enjoyed merging our collection together. Seeing what we both owned. Keeping the best copy and selling off the duplicate. Sure, we knew people who did not understand. Her parents, my parents and other friends. But we both understood that something that brings us so much joy. Something that is a bond between us! That is something we treasure, along with the music. I do not and will not ever regret that connection to her or the record collecting community in general. Sorry to go on so long. Your video inspired me! Thank you.

Wow, your family sounds very narrow minded to react like that. Comments like that are very damaging. Actually it would just encourage me to buy more records and build a wonderful collection. Thankfully Music was everywhere in my house. Buying records was welcomed and encouraged. I guess I was fortunate to have a positive experience. I have many friends whose parents didn’t understand the therapeutic component of music. Very sad indeed.
I have been watching your channel and learning a lot from your videos. I appreciate you speak from the heart, and you share your experiences. You have inspired me to start a video journal of my own collecting journey. Do what makes you happy this life is only yours to live. Remember that if they hate let them hate and just watch the money like up. No pays your bills but you.
Enjoy your vinyl collecting, its a fantastic hobby. My wife and I are both retired and enjoy collecting many different things. We travel, meet many great people and support each others collections. I also restore vintage turntables and receivers. Keeps life interesting and fun. Vinyl on 😊
This is a great topic, Melinda. Many people don't have any real interests or passion. I have one friend in my area who does share my interest, but they are rare. The people that I've met through running a channel are like the friends I don't find in my real life. Passionate people who love what we do - records, collecting, audio and so forth. This was the greatest unexpected benefit of doing what we do.

Hey Melinda! Loved your latest video and all I can say is anybody that has issues with your incredible vinyl collection, then they are the ones with the problem. Never let anyone give you negative comments about your passion for vinyl collecting. Just found out recently that my hmv record store which I used to go to years ago has reopened after 7 years since it closed down in 2016. Vinyl is most definitely back and hopefully this time it'll be here to stay. Keep up the great work Melinda and look forward to seeing you again.

Welcome to my world, Melinda. I've pretty much dealt with the same thing all my life. If we enjoy it that's all that matters. Music is the soundtrack of our lives...forever. You said it right, the hunt is so much a part of the collecting process. Happy hunting.
Your channel is great and so are you. As a music collector, singer, guitarist and songwriter, music IS my life. It always has been and that makes me an outcast at times. But I don’t care. I want to be around passionate and creative people. That’s why I’m thankful for the friends I’ve made through my UA-cam channel…they understand. CDs, Vinyl and cassettes are the things that excite me. Record Stores are my church. I’m constantly thinking about music. It’s who I am!
If anyone's an outcast it's those folks who question why you seek things that give you pleasure. I'm in my early 60s and collecting vinyl since I was 12, virtually all those records have a story or a moment behind them. Cracking open a gatefold and admiring the artwork, the physical heft of the record, the enveloping warmth of the audio, discovering how more shimmering 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' is in mono. Remembering get-togethers with fellow vinyl junkies from long ago where we played and shared our vinyl long into the night. And we do love the hunt: finding your first Beatles butcher album, holding a clean Elvis Sun 78, finding rare Prince colored vinyl, Record Store Day, perusing the import bin. And we love showing what our stuff is worth on Ebay and Discogs and how much less we paid for it! I enjoy watching sports too but you don't get the kind of tangibles that vinyl gives. Don't let your friend's comments bother you (btw you have an awesome collection), it's actually okay if it's not their thing.

Melinda, ThankYou for this video. My first reaction is to say please don’t let people who don’t have a clue drag you down. People have hobbies and interests. Some people collect books, or stamps, or art, or sports cards. People like us collect Vinyl Records or/and CD’s. I collect both, I enjoy what I do. It’s not that I’m looking for rarities, I just love music, albeit I collect Jazz, The Blues and what I call Vintage Soul. I only have 218 Vinyl Albums. A lot more CD’s too. I’m not a young guy sadly because I want to spend years and years collecting my Vinyl and CD’s. But I shall spend the years I have left to carry on collecting. Please don’t let these people drag you down, you did appear a little flat in the video. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. There is much joy in opening a new vinyl record, peeling off the cellulose wrap and smelling the intoxicating aroma of virgin vinyl. Reading the liner notes, checking out the swag included with some records. Big Bambu and School's Out to name a couple. Ya, because downloading a digital file is so gratifying. I've cobbled together about 3,000 albums over the years. Never give up your passion, whatever it may be.
I'm glad your partner supports you so strongly in your passion, it's wonderful to see. Having to hide something about yourself to those around you for fear of the comments and judgements, and feeling misunderstood is an awful feeling; I can hear the pain in your voice. For people who have to constantly hide core aspects of themselves from friends, family, employers or police, etc, it must be a nightmare. I wish we were all more kind to each other. Side note: I recently added a sub to my setup (got one on a GREAT 50% off deal) and it's added a wonderful depth to my vinyl listening pleasure! It is a subtle but wonderful enhancement.
I have a lot of hobbies (mostly because I became disabled and progressively more housebound for the last twenty years) and I've received similar comments from various people. It really boils down to these two things - as long as you're not wrecking your day to day life, and you enjoy it, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I always push the onus back onto them by asking what I should be doing instead to enjoy myself. That always makes them collapse. So don't let it get to you. Many people I see who are unhappy or grumpy with life have no hobbies and it shows. Bottom line - how can anyone truly complain that you've found happiness in something?
Hi Melinda, I really understand what you’re saying in this video. I have only been collecting vinyl seriously for a couple years. I used to collect when I was in high school (graduated in 1989), then got heavy into CDs. I have always been huge into music, but now I find I am accused of “chasing a trend“ or “this is just the latest thing I’m into“. I really don’t have friends, so I don’t have anyone to talk to about this other than family and work acquaintances. I’m sure that’s how I discovered your channel, reaching out to like-minded people.

I remember even back to the 70’s people making comments like , “ how can you listen to all of them or when are you going to sell them ? “ To this day my response is that each one of them is like my kid . I have about 20,000 lps and I’m kind of like Mazzy in which I can pull out a record and tell you about it and what I was doing and remember at the time. It is a real passion . I was a vinyl collector from about 1968 to 2000. I LOVED going to record stores when on vacation. There were some pretty cool stores here in Tucson back in the 70s and 80s. Heck, even Sears and Mongomery Wards had large record sections. It was damned fun. I love the cutout sections and the import sections. I ALMOST collected every LP on the ECM label before I quit. I had EVER first pressing of Elvis LPs and starting with Elvis Is Back, all in stereo. I had a few variants as well. (My Elvis collection as stolen, and I know who did it). Now I have CDs (I got tired of constantly cleaning records, being a bit OCD). But I do not hunt anymore. I buy my CDs from Amazon, Ebay or Discogs.
Wow...a near entire LP collection of ECM recordings sounds f'n incredible. Curious as to your favourite artists/records on the label? I just found 'Rypdal/Vitous/DeJohnette' (1979) recently and love it but there are sooooo many to chose from and they are not cheap LOL!

Melinda, I've heard everything, even from some people within the VC, that sometimes made me feel like I didn't belong. But then when doing Robert Zee's recent contest, he asked us to find a theme song for how we think about collecting, and I found the perfect song, and it was there the whole time in my favorite songs list and I never really thought about it...until I did. And now I have an entirely new outlook on my collecting, what I do in the VC, and the shows and stuff that i do. I have to follow my own path, taking the advice of the one and only Cass Elliot - "Make Your Own Kind Of Music". And that's what i do now. That song is going to start popping up in my world (probably the recent remake by Paloma Faith) more and more, because it's given me a completely new outlook. People who don't get us...are missing the chance to discover the wonderful world we know - vinyl included. I do cds and streaming, and I always tell people that htey're missing out if they dont' do digital too (so many fantastic artists these days do not do physical media), but it's cool to do vinyl, or CD, or Cassette - do what makes YOU happy. And to me, it's my pop music sensibility and my way of thinking that works FOR ME. It doesn't have to work with others - even close friends - and THAT is what matters! 🙂 Take care, my wonderful friend - you are awesome, and always will be! - TC

It really is sad when someone puts you down or makes you feel crazy for enjoying something normal that you like. But don't take it too personally and definitely don't let it bring you down. You're not doing anything wrong and you found a hobby you're passionate about and a lot of us are passionate about. Enjoy it and don't worry about what someone who doesn't understand it thinks about it. I don't bring up my vinyl collecting too much either to most people because they don't have any interest in it I can tell. I've got a few musical friends that I can mention things too but they don't really care one way or the other for collecting vinyl. That's one reason I'm glad this VC is out there on UA-cam. Great people with great videos like yours let you know you're not alone and there are others that enjoy it just the same way. It's just human nature to have something you enjoy and I think most people are collectors of something in their life. People collect everything from plates to movies or things we are not interested in to vinyl which we are interested in. We're not rude to them so they shouldn't be rude to us for our passions. I wish I could find a local friend that was into record collecting and be able to talk with them and visit with them at times. That sure would be awesome but it hasn't quite happened yet. I'd love to be able to do what you and your husband did with the traveling to different cities and record stores and making those great trips! I love getting on the road but don't get to do it as much nowadays due to my vision and inability to drive. One of the best videos I've seen on the VC. I owned a used record / cd store for 11 years (sold it in 2008) some of my best friends today are people I met in my store. I missed talking to people everyday about our passions and 2 years ago I discovered the VC, it's been a way for me to continue those conversations. Dear Melinda, I’ve been watching your channel for some time now and enjoy listening to your thoughts on record collecting and quality of pressings. I just would like to say it’s wonderful for you and many other collectors not just records to be able to have a passion like you have and really enjoy something so much. I am a record collector also, so please do not worry about what other people think of how you enjoy your time, true friends would be pleased that you have this passion and would not judge you in any way so please do not get disheartened by these comments. People should be happy that their friends get such enjoyment out of the thing that they really enjoy. I have made many friends through my passion for record collecting. Anyway I’m finding it hard to say what I really want to say but please don’t get down about comments from people just live your life with what makes you happy as people like us that have a passion in life are very lucky people. I really admire the way you articulated your response about being “shamed” for being a vinyl collector. The fact of the matter here is that the person attempting to shame you is actually insecure or uncomfortable with themselves, and that is their way of managing that reality. It’s a shame and I wish that person the opportunity to take a deep dive and embrace the power of introspection and a moment to question what they need and want to achieve their own fulfillment. Meanwhile, here you are just enjoying and owning a passion for something that gives you pleasure, expands your mind, and makes you the best version of yourself that you want to be. How’s that adverse to anyone?

Very thankful to have you in my life(in a way) too Melinda! There isn’t really anyone in my real life that’s super into music and vinyl, so it makes watching your vids that much more enjoyable. Even as a somewhat newer collector, I hear a lot of the negative too! Snarky comments, like, “it’s impossible to listen to that many records”. And they don’t realize that they have their own crazy hobbies that we can make fun of, but don’t, because we’re not a-holes. As a single 35 year old dude, sometimes I get worried if I’m dating a girl, and she gets turned off from all the records. On a side note, thanks for reminding me that I still need to get that Anologue Productions Doors record!

I am so fortunate to have four best friends that all have a passion for music. None of them collect vinyl but when we get together they all want to hear their favorite songs on vinyl and appreciate the difference in quality over streaming. Hang on to that best friend Melinda.

Enjoy it while you can..... I had been a collector of vinyl, CDs,cassettes, etc, ever since seeing the Beatles on TV in 1964 at the age of 5. I have collected hundreds of records and CDs since then. Unfortunately, in 2008, I developed a severe ear infection that took time to diagnose and resulted in extensive ear and mastoid surgery. Since then I've had loud tinnitus and all music has the sound quality of an AM radio. Once in a while I'll put on a record , maybe a Christmas album, for old times sake. But my hearing makes me very depressed as I listen to music. Hearing aids didn't help. They just amplified the distortion. So enjoy your passion for music and vinyl. Enjoy it while you can because you never know what may happen.

It’s who you are, part of your DNA. True friends will accept that. Have loved and collected vinyl for 57 yrs and am lucky to have an understanding spouse also. I have the same passion for collecting fine wines! Folks generally pair a fine wine w/food. Did you know you can also pair said wine w/wonderful vinyl?
Melinda, excellent vid and a great message for everyone who has a passion in life. I believe it is very important to have a hobby or two that keeps us going and as you stated, a passion. No one should ever insult or badger anyone about what they enjoy collecting and sharing with others. My music collecting hobby has been a passion of mine since I was 12 years old and to this very day, it still drives me. Music memorabilia is a big part of my collection and by my avatar, my number one band of all time is Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. From time to time I do get badgered about being a huge Four Seasons fan, and people will make rude comments. The majority of VC channels I watch is not because Im familiar with the artists being discussed, but enjoy the passion people have for music and it has opened my eyes to other artists. I'm pretty sure most people from our generation (I'm mid 50s) understand where you're coming from because we've grown up with vinyl and cd and during our teen years what was more important than music? The answer is "nothing". I started with vinyl but switched to cd. I still buy some vinyl but my preference is cd. For me, the format provides better value for money in the current market and is easier to store so that's where most of my money goes. None of my friends give me any grief over my collection as they're mainly from my age group. I have some work colleagues in their 20s who can't understand why I buy cds because it's easier to stream. My answer was pretty much the same as you told your Nephew only i used the intro to "Money for nothing" as an example instead of Led Zepp II. They've heard streaming through portable Bluetooth speakers, not a tangible format played on a decent hi fi set up. Bottom line is we like what we like and that's all that matters. Keep up the good work with the channel. I'm sure you're making plenty of people happy. If people don't like it, they should just scroll.
Im 23 and just got my first record player today. I understand why you love collecting records and the nostalgia of it. Im a huge 80s fan and cant wait to build my collection. One day in the future i want to show my future children about vinyl records and cherish it with them and when i pass away leave them all the records as a memory of me. I have been collecting records since 1973, I have never stopped loving this hobby, for the pleasure it gives me. Luckily my best friends have almost always been music and vinyl fans and always come over to my house to hear what I've discovered (I always surprise them). But I remember that only my mother, when I was a teenager, said to me: "You bought records again, but what are you going to do with all of them?" And I only had 100..!

I can relate to everything you said here in this video 1,000%. I’ve been collecting records since 5th grade, and 68 years later, nothing has changed! I constantly watch for new upcoming releases (most genres), and yes, like yourself I too have multiple copies of many records. The Doors L.A. Woman for example, just as yourself! I remember in my younger years, living at home, I’d come in with records I purchased, and my parents would say “more records?” Records and music bring me so much joy, and I totally and completely understand your own thoughts and feelings. We’ve both traveled, and will continue to travel down that musical road, regardless of what others might think. If you’re an outcast, then know that I’m right there with you all the way! You 're not alone! I get the same thing from family and friends who just don't understand why I collect vinyl and other vintage gear. It's a passion we have about our music and vinyl brings out the best in the music in my opinion. Sometimes I think I am wasting money looking back at some of my purchases, but you can also look at it as an investment. I collect rare first pressings like yourself and my collection almost doubled in value since I've been collecting. Like you said, there's nothing like listening to Led Zeppelin II Ludwig pressing... or the Dark Side of the Moon (by the way you should look for a UK A3B2 vinyl pressing - sounds the best in my opinion, and it's affordable). I have several pressings of the same title (from different countries, etc.). I like to hear the differences in the various pressings, people don't understand this. I have an old school sound system with huge speakers. I use an Ortofon X3 or Denon dl 301, 311 and 103R mostly. Even differences in cartridges makes a difference in the sound quality and detail that vinyl collectors can appreciate. Once in a while I will have a friend sit in the "perfect spot" chair and play a song they know well... they are always blown away by the sound. But then it usually ends there unfortunately. Speaking of the Doors "Riders on the Storm" , I have the quadraphonic 8 track tape. When you play the tape in a regular 8 track player it isolates the front two channels from the rear so you only hear Jim Morrison whispering the words... its creepy weird... you can't do that by streaming!!! Anyways, I just wanted to say I know how you feel but everyone should have a passionate hobby, especially in these crazy times. I can always rely on my vinyl, music is always there for me and never lets me down! (P.S. I have a recommendation for you based on what I know about your musical taste - You should pick up Tommy Bolin "Teaser" and "Private Eyes". They usually pop up in used bins for cheap - great stuff!) A great video Melinda. My rather simplistic view of this is that kindness and respect of others is what truly matters here. A hobby which bring happiness, meaning and fulfils a passion for somebody is a wonderful thing and nobody else should try and disrespect that just because they don't agree with it. Personally, I wouldn't want to be without my collection as experiencing the music, artwork and overall packaging of each record evoke so many emotions and provide memories of family members who are, sadly no longer with us, that I can't imagine my life without them. I am very lucky that my partner is so understanding and although she doesn't understand my passion for vinyl collecting there is no judgement cast from her either. Keep up the wonderful work and be proud of what your vinyl collection means to you.
I can absolutely assure you, it's NOT your problem, it's those who criticise you and generally they are the problem and seldom the worth the time of day. Keep going and all power to you girl. We all have interests and hobbies. I used to girl out with a girl who was always asking why did I still have an interest in photography, I have been interested in photography for XXX years, we are no longer together.
Music is the joy of the world and anybody that embraces that is generally a far more open minded and well rounded person. The problem with your friend is they perceive record collecting as a male hobby and a pretty lady like you with a passion for vinyl doesn't compute. The joy of dropping a needle into the groove is one life's great pleasures. Everybody should try it. Keep doing you M and keep spinning x
This vid definitely touched home for me. I've been a record music collecter since HS. I dragged them with me during my service tours. I'm sure my friend AND family have plenty of conversations about my private passion. The VC is a great outlet for the afflicted 😊. The thing most people don’t like about physical media is the space it consumes and the inconvenience of having to do something. I’ve been buying records since I was 6 and I’m 48 now - my living room and bedroom are full of albums, granted I’m single now but even when I was married my wife got it. Keep doing what you’re doing - I love your channel and your passion, someday when there’s no internet streaming we will be sitting around playing our collections and enjoying them while others struggle to find something to do ♥️
Music is addictive (just like stamp collecting, comic book collecting, baseball card collecting, classic cars, etc....).....to all the haters.....don't knock it till you've tried it !!!! Crazy... you do what you enjoy (as long as it is legal and ethical) and if your friends are critical of it, oh well.... nothing to stress over.. So cool your daughter is in med school... She will be able to resume this fantastic hobby once she finishes all her residency / fellowship requirements. It's a long and hopefully a very fulfilling journey as she will be doing so much good for her patients and their families !
I would have to agree with you if people want to make fun of our passion for vinyl records and music then so be it I think Melinda is a great UA-camr and she’s one of the best in the world because she loves her music and no one should look down on her or make fun of her when she buys new vinyl some people will get it some people won’t I am one of those that do.
Hello Melinda; Having a hobby that brings you happiness is wonderful. It can help relieve stress, keep you healthy & develop a positive frame of mind. As long as the hobby does not become an addiction. We are a bit older & have been collecting since the mid 60's. Like anything else whether you collect coins, stamps, comics, sports cards, SHOES, it must be done in moderation within your financial limitations. Depending on how much expendable cash you have available. Going out to stores searching for needed records is still exciting. Those who comment in a negative manner usually have habits which can be deemed questionable. Stay focused. Tina & Pat!~

Fortunately, my friends (especially Joe Mayo) and my family seem to understand my record collecting. In fact, my sister has often alerted me to vinyl finds in her town. However, I hear others express the same issues you're having. Don't let those people stop you from doing what you enjoy. Your friends should know that you have over 23K subscribers who feel the same way you do, so they're in the minority. 😁 I love your videos.

I stumbled upon this video by pure chance. I just started collecting vinyl in the last few years, but my friends and stuff don’t comment about it. Having friendships is a partnership,they geek out about stuff I don’t care about but will listen and be entertained and the same with my hobbies, I geek out, they could care less but they entertain me. At first tho, some people tried those put down with me about my crafting hobbies and all my stuff…but I’m a smarty pants(nicest way to put it) and they quickly learned if they want to geek out about their passions, they going to have let me geek out about mines. Or they quickly get “I don’t care just like you don’t care about my passions”. And/or “it’s cheaper then therapy” great video!
Melinda, I am a 52 year old Australian man... I have two close friends. I lost a huge chunk of my friend group when I purchased my Steinway piano. The bitterness I received for that was alarming. I lost a lot of friends when I bought my Ferrari... again, a childhood passion and something I worked my arse off to achieve. I have learnt one reality, people only want to be your friend when they believe they are doing better than you are. The moment you are successful in whatever task you set yourself, the green eyed monster sets in and people drift away. I have literally been told when I asked the question, "why do you never contact me anymore..?", "We cannot live up to your standards." Wow!!! So I raised my standards higher. You mentioned books... I have not had that experience. Nor art. I have in the past received so much criticism for collecting art and books. Melinda, most people are boring, ignorant, basic individuals. Hence you mentioned sport... Sport exists to entertain the masses. Melinda, I put to you, your records are not the problem. The problem is you... You are an interesting, passionate, educated and successful lady... people cannot cope with that!
Man that sucks. As a fellow Australian also in his 50s I'd love to see your Steinway and your Ferrari. I studied classical piano up to 6th Grade as a younger man, I've only ever had the opportunity to play a Steinway once, at the Sydney Eisteddfod at the Opera House. I came 4th, but I didn't care at all because I got to play that magnificent instrument. What a privilege that was. As for your Ferrari, what model is it? I've always loved the 308GT4 Dino, an unloved model amongst aficionados but i couldn't give a toss. I've been lucky enough to have driven a couple, and I almost bought one back in the 1990s when they were comparatively cheap but I chose a wife instead. I still have the wife so it wasn't a bad call. I also have an extensive book collection, but then, I own a second-hand bookshop so it'd be weird if I didn't. Every job has its perks. I've never had anyone run me down for being into books and records, friends or otherwise. Maybe I'm just lucky. There's some sad jealous people in the world, that's for sure. Me, I'm all about shared experience, so you enjoy your Steinway and your Ferrari and be sure to toast all the mean spirited folks with some nice whisky, or whatever your beverage of choice may be. I might beg to differ slightly regarding sport though - my Grandmother was an extremely intelligent and articulate woman who lectured at Universities was a Test cricket tragic, and she has passed that particular obsession on to me. She got to see Bradman play and I wish I could say that. I justify it by pretending that Test cricket is a thinking mans game (as in, you need a degree of intelligence to fully understand it) and I will not be swayed, lol. Footy and all that, yeah, they can have it, but Test cricket is a truly unique pastime. Cheers, and thanks for reading. 🙂

It’s a wonderful instrument for when all you want to hear all day is piano… I often have it playing all day long while I am working from home. My Ferrari is a 812 Superfast. I bought it because I love that classic V12 in the front driving the rear wheels configuration. It’s a truly wonderful driving experience. Sadly it doesn’t get out much these days. I live on the Gold Coast which has become so unbelievably busy and congested. I was a book ‘collector’ long before I considered myself a record collector. I have been acquiring signed first editions for going on 30 years now. I only got into buying records during Covid and as a result of picking up a secondhand B&O record player from my neighbour who was going to bin it when he (apparently) upgraded his system. I am a huge B&O fan… so I grabbed it. It’s a bit dodgy in the electronics; when I get a chance I will have it fully restored. It has me back into collecting records again though. One would argue for the art more so than the listening experience. Often I will have an album propped up on the piano whilst it is playing. Might be a bit weird but there you go… that’s me… a bit weird!
Wow, that's harsh that friends would desert you because of what you choose to spend your money on. Makes you wonder what kind of "friends" they were to begin with. Very immature would be my guess. As a kid I often listened to music and drew in my sketchbook. It’s still my escape today. Most of my records were passed on to me from people who knew they meant a lot to me. As a kid I only had 8 lps in my collection but they were ones I loved by Kiss, Aerosmith, Sweet and yes, Barry Manilow and Captain and Tennile. Opening a new record at home is still such a rush and these days we have beautiful colors included. I collect toys and art books too. My friends made fun of my collecting too. They spent their allowance on booze etc… collecting saved my life most likely. My wife loves that I always stayed home with her instead of going out to clubs. She likes when I DJ for her on weekends and she likes hearing what new music I have discovered. Our nephews are into vinyl now and this weekend I’m passing on the Zeppelin records my brother in law gave me to his son. I got to be the keeper of them and I’m glad he’s getting his dads records. Spin some Dylan for Phillip….. sooner or later he’ll love it. The best records are growers. I really enjoy your channel. My family gets tired of me talking about records too. Thank You! As we get older, "friends" fall away...till you are able to count your friends on one hand...with plenty of fingers to spare. The world sees us the way we see ourselves, and your joy of the vinyl is so infectious, it makes my day every time. People who have large voids in their life find a need to bring down other people. Most people don’t have passionate hobbies and it’s a shame. The sports thing is a good example, I gave up being passionate about sports, as a fan you have no influence in the outcome and at the end of the day it doesn’t effect your life at all whether your team wins or loses. Half of the time sports just upset people. I don’t talk vinyl with many people and it’s what has recently drove me to starting a channel as I start a new collection fresh. You are not alone! I hope to share my collection with my daughters one day!
Hi Melinda, Don’t sweat it. You have a passion like I do. Just know who you can talk to about music and records, simple as that. Everyone has their passions, books, coin, stamp and trading cards collection. The naysayers will always have something to say because they don’t “get it”. Brush it off. Hey Melinda, I say if they don’t get it and don’t want to try to understand, it’s their loss. At least we are passionate about something. It’s not as though we don’t love our families and are irresponsible regarding other areas of our life. The story about your nephew(?) hearing Zepp II on vinyl for the first time is a wonderful thing. Vinyl Is a collection of music, art, history, great liner notes (sometimes). It’s great that your husband enjoys the hunt and just being with you and supporting you in your passion. Music can be enjoyed on so many levels. You seek the purist (medium) source to listen to the artists. Don’t cast your pearls among swine, they just don’t understand. Take care 😊❤
I am grateful for the vinyl community on UA-cam. I don't have friends who love music as much as me. I often go to concerts by myself because people don't want to spend money on concerts. I can relate to this. My Ex-Wife had mental issues (I’ll leave it at that) and abandoned my Daughter and I over 6 years ago, taking my Step Son with her who I loved as my own. Destroying my faith in relationships, tbh. That’s around the time when my personal vinyl resurgence began. Then a year later my Daughter went off to college. So for the last 4+ years it’s just been me and my dog at home. I have a lot of friends, but they do support it. They’ve nicknamed me Vinyl Tom, lol. Some of them have even picked up the hobby as well. Like you, my vinyl and HiFi hobby has Always been a source of happiness and a great distraction from the negative things in life. I think the hobby has gotten me thru more than I even know. I spin a couple records at the end of the work day everyday to unwind. Kind of a daily ritual, if you will. For me: The music takes me away to better times. I get excited when a new record shows up in the mail or if I find great records in the wild. And I don’t give a $#it What anyone thinks. If they’re my friends they’ll respect it. 👍 Keep on spinning 😊

I Love your comments about all the different types of records. This is the essence of our hobby. It amazing how much information is locked in the grooves. A quality Hi-fi system can extract that information and completely change the way we experience our music. This is why we keep changing components, upgrading our speakers, and finding new exciting ways to heard our collection. At 73, everytime I put on a vinyl recording, it's like an instant nostalgic time machine transporting me right back to the day I first heard it.
My best friend is a Sports Junkie who just dosent understand my passion. I get criticized by friends just like you do which is even more confusing because they grew up the same way I did listening to records. My ladyfriend and I try to go out every weekend or at least every other weekend to look for vinyl in both our wantlists. We both are very passionate about our love for vinyl collecting and since we are both in our middle sixties, we feel we don't have to explain this to anyone, not even our closest friends or relatives. Melinda - life is short. It's wonderful to have things in your life that give you excitement. I'm old enough to be your grandpa. I had a small collection while growing up
in the '50s and '60s, but nothing compared to yours. I can remember going into our basement and blasting a new Beatles album before my parents got home.
What joyous memories they are. I also have a fond memory of when I was dating a young lady (around 1970) and turning up the volume in her basement
on Big Brother and the Holding Company - Janis Joplin. I never realized at the time that what I was listening to was to become unforgettable music, including the
British Invasion, the Bee Gees and many, many more. Those were great times. You are experiencing this at a later age, but enjoying even more, knowing what the
history is behind those groups. Happy collecting. Sad about your daughter flying the coop, but it will only make you (and her) stronger. Stay well young lady.

I'm 62 years old and retired. If it wasn't for my passion of collecting I would be dead now. I have always had records, collected them, and still enjoy them. None, and I mean NONE of my friends have ever understood my collecting. Some people really don't mean to hurt your feelings, and don't understand the effect that there words can have on you. I feel sorry for those people. One of the things that I hear from a lot of my friends is how bored they are. What are we going to do this weekend? Where are we going to go? Well guess what? I'm never bored! I always have something to do, and my passion for collecting (not just records) is what keeps me going. If I ever met you in person I would love to talk about your collection and everything records. We could talk for hours because I get it. Your reference of having books on shelves is a good one. People see that as normal. But fill those shelves with anything else and they have a break down! My final thoughts - sometimes people put you down because they see you as happy and content with your life and choices. They have nothing to do and want you to be like them. Yes friends can be friendly and hurtful at the same time. And when they are hurtful its really there pain that they pass on to you. Yep, I'll be the outcast, and proud of it. I'm happy, I have my family, my health, and my passion for collecting. Don't need anything else.
It is wonderful to live a life with passion and a sense of purpose. I hope to enjoy retirement the way you do. Thank you!

Life on this earth is relatively short, Melinda. The passions you choose to follow and take joy in are your own prerogative. Pay no mind to any negative comments about your hobbies. I too began a collection a few years ago and while I hear people's opinions, I choose to ignore any negativity and simply move forward. It's vital to remember that pleasing everyone is an impossible task!

Hey Melinda love your Channel. I'm a cd collector who enjoys music for many reasons such as: Introspection/meditation, motivation/energy. I collect because I listen to various music based on mood and feelings throughout the week.
Both of my parents passed away this year and I have bought many smooth jazz cds. That has helped me stay positive all while processing it all. Believe me 20 years ago, I wouldn't have been open minded to that genre.
There are way more folks like yourself than you could ever realize.

People do collect things, they horde books, stamps, works of art, sports cards. You and I collect Vinyl Records and in my case CD’s as well. Yes I’ve been looked at strangely when they found out I collect Vinyl Records. But it is a passion of mine and will remain so.
I only have 218 Vinyl albums and a load more CD’s at the moment. Both collections will increase during the time I have left. Sadly I’m an old guy so my collecting years are decreasing fairly quickly in reality. I will make sure my passion does not cease in the time I have left to me. Even today I purchased Joe Bonamassa’s latest album. Long live MY Jazz, MY Blues and what I call Vintage Soul records because I will collect you. Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. You’re not alone, I love your videos Melinda. Just keep producing them. I thank you for your enthusiasm, your passion, your knowledge.

Some people just don’t appreciate the pure quality of analog recordings. I am old enough to have been around when everyone was purchasing records and later cd’s and of course now digital streaming but I have always preferred a hard copy rather then a digital download. Although I found cd’s the most convenient there is something special about listening to an LP as well as being able to read the inside and outside of the album cover “without eye strain”. So don’t get frustrated, just keep doing what makes you happy and crank it up. Rock on!

I am a fellow vinyl collector. My dad, who passed away 8 years ago, collected 45's and jukeboxes. He had hundreds of thousands of 45's, and knew mostsongs by artist, song title, and label. I love carring on his love of music with physical media. On a crazy side note, my dad went to Nashville to cut a 45 record around 1976 and there was a new country group there recording thier first 45. They agreed to send my dad a single if he sent them one as well. Wildcountry (the name of the group) held up their end and sent out a 45. I got it after my dad passed away. Wildcountry later changed thier name to Alabama! Keep up the good work!

DON’T LET ANYONE TAKE AWAY YOUR JOY! The memories you’ve made on the road-trips with your husband are something very special that you’ll cherish one day as you flip through your records. I’ve been very lucky to surround myself with friends that respect my vinyl collecting passion even though they may not be collectors themselves. I have no place (or time) in my life for friends that are judgmental of my hobbies or passions. If you ever come to NYC give me a shout and we’ll go record shopping together!

Follow your dreams and be yourself. Im going on 70 years old. Music has been important to me since I was 4 or 5. Today, it's as important to me as ever. My collection is big and I listen to music every day. Listening to my old albums always take me back to different times in my life. I listen to music now with years of experience behind me, and because of that, I seem to hear the music differently now. I still love it, some more, some less. But, a lot of times, it's a spiritual experience to me because I feel it in my soul. Do your thang girl. It's all good.

The primary enjoyment I get from the channel are the STORIES behind the collection and learning a lot about vinyl history as well as the gear. I’m not a collector of vinyl as such but I do collect all things Springsteen vinyl and CD related including bootlegs. I've had many people tell me that buying vinyl is a massive waste of money and sometimes I sit there and go "hmm maybe they're right" but its something that makes me happy. All you can do is what makes you happy with your life

Those same people pay a monthly bill for television, which is insane. At least you have something to show for your hobby.
If the process of collecting something brings you pleasure then the purpose is served. Whether you actually use the things you collect isn't relevant, the process of acquiring them has brought you joy and what happens after that is secondary.
I have this conversation with people in my bookshop quite a bit. They'll say something like "I shouldn't be buying more books, I've got lots at home that I haven't read", at which point I'll remind them that collecting books and reading books are two completely separate hobbies and they should not be confused. I know I've bought plenty of books I have no intention of reading, but the process of acquisition brought me pleasure so whether I ever read those books is secondary. Same goes for records. Ever bought a record you haven't played? It's the same thing. It sounds like a cheesy sales pitch I know, but that doesn't mean it's not true. You're not really buying a book or a record, you're buying a feeling. That you get to have something tactile to take home as well is just a bonus, it's not the whole reason. As long as you can afford it and justify it (don't be spending money you don't have) you should never feel guilty about it.

Dear Melinda I am 75 years old and I live in the UK and love your channel. I have been collecting records since I was 12 and have a room full of thousands of LP's, Singles and CDs. I totally understand your sadness but please don't let it get you down. Our hobby is a great passion as is fishing, golf, cars or any other hobby. It doesn't matter if friends don't understand the thrill of seeking out different pressings to find the best sounding one, I have many versions of the same album! Also that thrill of getting home with a new album, and putting it on the turntable for the first time, admiring the artwork and reading the cover notes. Who are the musicians? Who mastered it and so on!
On the flip side of friends who are not into this hobby I have made many good friends through the hobby and we enjoy spending musical evenings together, sharing each other's music, a great way of discovering music that might otherwise pass you by. I have also a great bunch of friends who enjoy the components of an audio system and I have a great dealer who guides me through my equipment buying choices. People would never understand why we might pay thousands for a piece of wire to connect up parts of our systems, but then I must respect my friends who think nothing of spending in excess of £50k for a car! I am just thankful that music is my passion and my life and without it I would be lost and that I am in a position to afford to support my hobby.
So please continue doing what you do and enjoy this wonderful hobby.

It can be very hurtful. I've been called a bit "odd" , an"outlier" and in one instance, someone said it was "weird" that I enjoyed playing records especially being a female with an ethnic background . I love when I see a young lady collecting Records. We need all genders and ethnicities to help keep the Vinyl passion alive and well.
I asked a young lady one time at a Record Show what she listens to her records on? She said she has a phonograph. I told her that's wonderful and to kept collecting, and that I started listening to my records on a phonograph. Seems crazy and racist to view you as "odd" or "weird" because of an ethnic background who likes to collect records. Don't let anyone discourage you from such a fun hobby. Streaming music through earbuds, blue-tooth or any other method, doesn't compare to the enjoyment of handling a record album, reading the credits, who played what instruments, the art work, the experience of putting the vinyl on the turntable and taking it off and having a physical connection to the music you love. It's like owning a diamond or a piece of gold to treasure.

Hello Melinda! The way I see it ; this is our hobby. Hobbies are something you’re passionate about. They can’t be fully explained. Those who complain about anyones hobby , most likely don’t have any themselves. Hence , they don’t understand the passion. Maybe they’re even a little bit envious to see your passion about something. I don’t know if I’ve told this before but , A’s oldest friend moved back to our town. Her husband and I hit it off at once. He wondered why I collected vinyl. ”You know everything is on streaming , right?” I played him some Hendrix , Nirvana and The Meters. 4 1/2 years later , he now has a HUGE 70’s-80’s heavy metal collection. And I do mean HUUUUGE ! Wasp , Accept , Saxon , Iron Maiden , Deep Purple , Black Sabbath , Van Halen , Motörhead , Rainbow , Metallica , Led Zeppelin, Judas priest , Slayer , Pantera , Manowar , Dio , Anthrax , Scorpions , Megadeath , Dokken , Budgie and so on. Melinda I don’t understand why more women aren’t into music collecting! From what I see it’s a more male dominated pursuit and I’ve never understood that. As for me, I suffer from suicidal ideation. Collecting records is my form of therapy. Of course people will see it as weird or unusual. But it helps and helps me get my mind back on track. If it makes you happy, then do it. They probably collect things themselves. It your happiness so do it.

Loved this video, it seems to hard for many people to understand interests/passions other than say: getting the latest I-phone, sports etc. Sometimes these comments are not easy to just shrugg of so it felt sincere and vulnerable that you talked about it.

I’m very lucky in that I have one good friend that is a fellow crate digger. He has a great collection and he is also a electronics lover who has gifted me many pieces of equipment. I always try to pick up stuff to gift him. Like you, I can’t really talk about records with any of my other friends, but they tolerate my passion and think it’s amusing. My wife doesn’t share my vinyl addiction, but supports my hobby and the time I spend making videos. We’re all here for you Melinda. Cheers.

Thank you for this open and honest video. I got into record collecting and CD collecting when I was a child. It only intensified as I became a teenager. I had a very solid collection that I WORKED very hard for. I took on odd jobs and a part time job to buy all the records I wanted. My parents, especially my step-father would trash me over my collection all the time. I would hear "why do you waste money on this crap?" or "who cares about owning the records, just listen to the radio where music is free!" or "why do you support these druggies and Satan worshipers." When my grandparents came from out of town, they would demand I not mention my music and put my records away. But I kept going because it brought me joy!
I was lucky enough to meet a woman who I would end up marrying. She had a small collection of her own. She looked at all my music and said "WOW! I really love this!!" I know it will sound dumb, but we enjoyed merging our collection together. Seeing what we both owned. Keeping the best copy and selling off the duplicate. Sure, we knew people who did not understand. Her parents, my parents and other friends. But we both understood that something that brings us so much joy. Something that is a bond between us! That is something we treasure, along with the music. I do not and will not ever regret that connection to her or the record collecting community in general. Sorry to go on so long. Your video inspired me! Thank you.

Wow, your family sounds very narrow minded to react like that. Comments like that are very damaging. Actually it would just encourage me to buy more records and build a wonderful collection.
Thankfully Music was everywhere in my house. Buying records was welcomed and encouraged. I guess I was fortunate to have a positive experience. I have many friends whose parents didn’t understand the therapeutic component of music. Very sad indeed.
I have been watching your channel and learning a lot from your videos. I appreciate you speak from the heart, and you share your experiences. You have inspired me to start a video journal of my own collecting journey. Do what makes you happy this life is only yours to live. This is a great topic, Melinda. Many people don't have any real interests or passion. I have one friend in my area who does share my interest, but they are rare. The people that I've met through running a channel are like the friends I don't find in my real life. Passionate people who love what we do - records, collecting, audio and so forth. This was the greatest unexpected benefit of doing what we do.

Hey Melinda! Loved your latest video and all I can say is anybody that has issues with your incredible vinyl collection, then they are the ones with the problem. Never let anyone give you negative comments about your passion for vinyl collecting. Just found out recently that my hmv record store which I used to go to years ago has reopened after 7 years since it closed down in 2016. Vinyl is most definitely back and hopefully this time it'll be here to stay. Keep up the great work Melinda and look forward to seeing you again.

Your channel is great and so are you. As a music collector, singer, guitarist and songwriter, music IS my life. It always has been and that makes me an outcast at times. But I don’t care. I want to be around passionate and creative people. That’s why I’m thankful for the friends I’ve made through my UA-cam channel…they understand. CDs, Vinyl and cassettes are the things that excite me. Record Stores are my church. I’m constantly thinking about music. It’s who I am!

If anyone's an outcast it's those folks who question why you seek things that give you pleasure. I'm in my early 60s and collecting vinyl since I was 12, virtually all those records have a story or a moment behind them. Cracking open a gatefold and admiring the artwork, the physical heft of the record, the enveloping warmth of the audio, discovering how more shimmering 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' is in mono. Remembering get-togethers with fellow vinyl junkies from long ago where we played and shared our vinyl long into the night. And we do love the hunt: finding your first Beatles butcher album, holding a clean Elvis Sun 78, finding rare Prince colored vinyl, Record Store Day, perusing the import bin. And we love showing what our stuff is worth on Ebay and Discogs and how much less we paid for it! I enjoy watching sports too but you don't get the kind of tangibles that vinyl gives. Don't let your friend's comments bother you (btw you have an awesome collection), it's actually okay if it's not their thing.

Melinda, ThankYou for this video. My first reaction is to say please don’t let people who don’t have a clue drag you down. People have hobbies and interests. Some people collect books, or stamps, or art, or sports cards. People like us collect Vinyl Records or/and CD’s. I collect both, I enjoy what I do. It’s not that I’m looking for rarities, I just love music, albeit I collect Jazz, The Blues and what I call Vintage Soul. I only have 218 Vinyl Albums. A lot more CD’s too. I’m not a young guy sadly because I want to spend years and years collecting my Vinyl and CD’s. But I shall spend the years I have left to carry on collecting.
Please don’t let these people drag you down, you did appear a little flat in the video. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. Carry on providing your videos, your knowledge deserves to be aired. On the radio today it was announced that Vinyl buying and collecting in the past year is at an all time high!!!

There is much joy in opening a new vinyl record, peeling off the cellulose wrap and smelling the intoxicating aroma of virgin vinyl. Reading the liner notes, checking out the swag included with some records. Big Bambu and School's Out to name a couple. Ya, because downloading a digital file is so gratifying. I've cobbled together about 3,000 albums over the years. Never give up your passion, whatever it may be.

I'm glad your partner supports you so strongly in your passion, it's wonderful to see. Having to hide something about yourself to those around you for fear of the comments and judgements, and feeling misunderstood is an awful feeling; I can hear the pain in your voice. For people who have to constantly hide core aspects of themselves from friends, family, employers or police, etc, it must be a nightmare. I wish we were all more kind to each other.
Side note: I recently added a sub to my setup (got one on a GREAT 50% off deal) and it's added a wonderful depth to my vinyl listening pleasure! It is a subtle but wonderful enhancement.

I have a lot of hobbies (mostly because I became disabled and progressively more housebound for the last twenty years) and I've received similar comments from various people. It really boils down to these two things - as long as you're not wrecking your day to day life, and you enjoy it, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I always push the onus back onto them by asking what I should be doing instead to enjoy myself. That always makes them collapse.
So don't let it get to you. Many people I see who are unhappy or grumpy with life have no hobbies and it shows.
Bottom line - how can anyone truly complain that you've found happiness in something?

Hi Melinda, I really understand what you’re saying in this video. I have only been collecting vinyl seriously for a couple years. I used to collect when I was in high school (graduated in 1989), then got heavy into CDs. I have always been huge into music, but now I find I am accused of “chasing a trend“ or “this is just the latest thing I’m into“. I really don’t have friends, so I don’t have anyone to talk to about this other than family and work acquaintances. I’m sure that’s how I discovered your channel, reaching out to like-minded people.

I remember even back to the 70’s people making comments like , “ how can you listen to all of them or when are you going to sell them ? “ To this day my response is that each one of them is like my kid . I have about 20,000 lps and I’m kind of like Mazzy in which I can pull out a record and tell you about it and what I was doing and remember at the time. It is a real passion . I was a vinyl collector from about 1968 to 2000. I LOVED going to record stores when on vacation. There were some pretty cool stores here in Tucson back in the 70s and 80s. Heck, even Sears and Mongomery Wards had large record sections. It was damned fun. I love the cutout sections and the import sections. I ALMOST collected every LP on the ECM label before I quit. I had EVER first pressing of Elvis LPs and starting with Elvis Is Back, all in stereo. I had a few variants as well. (My Elvis collection as stolen, and I know who did it). Now I have CDs (I got tired of constantly cleaning records, being a bit OCD). But I do not hunt anymore. I buy my CDs from Amazon, Ebay or Discogs.

Wow...a near entire LP collection of ECM recordings sounds f'n incredible. Curious as to your favourite artists/records on the label? I just found 'Rypdal/Vitous/DeJohnette' (1979) recently and love it but there are sooooo many to chose from and they are not cheap LOL!

Melinda, I've heard everything, even from some people within the VC, that sometimes made me feel like I didn't belong. But then when doing Robert Zee's recent contest, he asked us to find a theme song for how we think about collecting, and I found the perfect song, and it was there the whole time in my favorite songs list and I never really thought about it...until I did. And now I have an entirely new outlook on my collecting, what I do in the VC, and the shows and stuff that i do. I have to follow my own path, taking the advice of the one and only Cass Elliot - "Make Your Own Kind Of Music". And that's what i do now. That song is going to start popping up in my world (probably the recent remake by Paloma Faith) more and more, because it's given me a completely new outlook. People who don't get us...are missing the chance to discover the wonderful world we know - vinyl included. I do cds and streaming, and I always tell people that htey're missing out if they dont' do digital too (so many fantastic artists these days do not do physical media), but it's cool to do vinyl, or CD, or Cassette - do what makes YOU happy. And to me, it's my pop music sensibility and my way of thinking that works FOR ME. It doesn't have to work with others - even close friends - and THAT is what matters! 🙂 Take care, my wonderful friend - you are awesome, and always will be! - TC

It really is sad when someone puts you down or makes you feel crazy for enjoying something normal that you like. But don't take it too personally and definitely don't let it bring you down. You're not doing anything wrong and you found a hobby you're passionate about and a lot of us are passionate about. Enjoy it and don't worry about what someone who doesn't understand it thinks about it.
I don't bring up my vinyl collecting too much either to most people because they don't have any interest in it I can tell. I've got a few musical friends that I can mention things too but they don't really care one way or the other for collecting vinyl. That's one reason I'm glad this VC is out there on UA-cam. Great people with great videos like yours let you know you're not alone and there are others that enjoy it just the same way.
It's just human nature to have something you enjoy and I think most people are collectors of something in their life. People collect everything from plates to movies or things we are not interested in to vinyl which we are interested in. We're not rude to them so they shouldn't be rude to us for our passions.
I wish I could find a local friend that was into record collecting and be able to talk with them and visit with them at times. That sure would be awesome but it hasn't quite happened yet. I'd love to be able to do what you and your husband did with the traveling to different cities and record stores and making those great trips! I love getting on the road but don't get to do it as much nowadays due to my vision and inability to drive. But I don't let it slow me down with enjoying my passion and I don't let what others say against it get me down either.

One of the best videos I've seen on the VC. I owned a used record / cd store for 11 years (sold it in 2008) some of my best friends today are people I met in my store. I missed talking to people everyday about our passions and 2 years ago I discovered the VC, it's been a way for me to continue those conversations. I really admire the way you articulated your response about being “shamed” for being a vinyl collector. The fact of the matter here is that the person attempting to shame you is actually insecure or uncomfortable with themselves, and that is their way of managing that reality. It’s a shame and I wish that person the opportunity to take a deep dive and embrace the power of introspection and a moment to question what they need and want to achieve their own fulfillment. Meanwhile, here you are just enjoying and owning a passion for something that gives you pleasure, expands your mind, and makes you the best version of yourself that you want to be. Very thankful to have you in my life(in a way) too Melinda! There isn’t really anyone in my real life that’s super into music and vinyl, so it makes watching your vids that much more enjoyable. Even as a somewhat newer collector, I hear a lot of the negative too! Snarky comments, like, “it’s impossible to listen to that many records”. And they don’t realize that they have their own crazy hobbies that we can make fun of, but don’t, because we’re not a-holes. As a single 35 year old dude, sometimes I get worried if I’m dating a girl, and she gets turned off from all the records. On a side note, thanks for reminding me that I still need to get that Anologue Productions Doors record!

Enjoy it while you can..... I had been a collector of vinyl, CDs,cassettes, etc, ever since seeing the Beatles on TV in 1964 at the age of 5. I have collected hundreds of records and CDs since then. Unfortunately, in 2008, I developed a severe ear infection that took time to diagnose and resulted in extensive ear and mastoid surgery. Since then I've had loud tinnitus and all music has the sound quality of an AM radio. Once in a while I'll put on a record , maybe a Christmas album, for old times sake. But my hearing makes me very depressed as I listen to music. Hearing aids didn't help. They just amplified the distortion. So enjoy your passion for music and vinyl. Enjoy it while you can because you never know what may happen.

It’s who you are, part of your DNA. True friends will accept that. Have loved and collected vinyl for 57 yrs and am lucky to have an understanding spouse also. I have the same passion for collecting fine wines! Folks generally pair a fine wine w/food. Did you know you can also pair said wine w/wonderful vinyl?
Melinda, excellent vid and a great message for everyone who has a passion in life. I believe it is very important to have a hobby or two that keeps us going and as you stated, a passion. No one should ever insult or badger anyone about what they enjoy collecting and sharing with others. My music collecting hobby has been a passion of mine since I was 12 years old and to this very day, it still drives me. Music memorabilia is a big part of my collection and by my avatar, my number one band of all time is Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. From time to time I do get badgered about being a huge Four Seasons fan, and people will make rude comments. The majority of VC channels I watch is not because Im familiar with the artists being discussed, but enjoy the passion people have for music and it has opened my eyes to other artists. I'm pretty sure most people from our generation (I'm mid 50s) understand where you're coming from because we've grown up with vinyl and cd and during our teen years what was more important than music? The answer is "nothing". I started with vinyl but switched to cd. I still buy some vinyl but my preference is cd. For me, the format provides better value for money in the current market and is easier to store so that's where most of my money goes. None of my friends give me any grief over my collection as they're mainly from my age group. I have some work colleagues in their 20s who can't understand why I buy cds because it's easier to stream. My answer was pretty much the same as you told your Nephew only i used the intro to "Money for nothing" as an example instead of Led Zepp II. They've heard streaming through portable Bluetooth speakers, not a tangible format played on a decent hi fi set up.
Bottom line is we like what we like and that's all that matters. Keep up the good work with the channel. I'm sure you're making plenty of people happy. If people don't like it, they should just scroll.
Im 23 and just got my first record player today. I understand why you love collecting records and the nostalgia of it. Im a huge 80s fan and cant wait to build my collection. One day in the future i want to show my future children about vinyl records and cherish it with them and when i pass away leave them all the records as a memory of me. I have been collecting records since 1973, I have never stopped loving this hobby, for the pleasure it gives me. Luckily my best friends have almost always been music and vinyl fans and always come over to my house to hear what I've discovered (I always surprise them). But I remember that only my mother, when I was a teenager, said to me: "You bought records again, but what are you going to do with all of them?" And I only had 100..!

I can relate to everything you said here in this video 1,000%. I’ve been collecting records since 5th grade, and 68 years later, nothing has changed! I constantly watch for new upcoming releases (most genres), and yes, like yourself I too have multiple copies of many records. The Doors L.A. Woman for example, just as yourself! I remember in my younger years, living at home, I’d come in with records I purchased, and my parents would say “more records?” Records and music bring me so much joy, and I totally and completely understand your own thoughts and feelings. We’ve both traveled, and will continue to travel down that musical road, regardless of what others might think. If you’re an outcast, then know that I’m right there with you all the way! You 're not alone! I get the same thing from family and friends who just don't understand why I collect vinyl and other vintage gear. It's a passion we have about our music and vinyl brings out the best in the music in my opinion. Sometimes I think I am wasting money looking back at some of my purchases, but you can also look at it as an investment. I collect rare first pressings like yourself and my collection almost doubled in value since I've been collecting. Like you said, there's nothing like listening to Led Zeppelin II Ludwig pressing... or the Dark Side of the Moon (by the way you should look for a UK A3B2 vinyl pressing - sounds the best in my opinion, and it's affordable). I have several pressings of the same title (from different countries, etc.). I like to hear the differences in the various pressings, people don't understand this. I have an old school sound system with huge speakers. I use an Ortofon X3 or Denon dl 301, 311 and 103R mostly. Even differences in cartridges makes a difference in the sound quality and detail that vinyl collectors can appreciate. Once in a while I will have a friend sit in the "perfect spot" chair and play a song they know well... they are always blown away by the sound. But then it usually ends there unfortunately. Speaking of the Doors "Riders on the Storm" , I have the quadraphonic 8 track tape. When you play the tape in a regular 8 track player it isolates the front two channels from the rear so you only hear Jim Morrison whispering the words... its creepy weird... you can't do that by streaming!!! Anyways, I just wanted to say I know how you feel but everyone should have a passionate hobby, especially in these crazy times. I can always rely on my vinyl, music is always there for me and never lets me down!
(P.S. I have a recommendation for you based on what I know about your musical taste - You should pick up Tommy Bolin "Teaser" and "Private Eyes". They usually pop up in used bins for cheap - great stuff!)

A great video Melinda. My rather simplistic view of this is that kindness and respect of others is what truly matters here. A hobby which bring happiness, meaning and fulfils a passion for somebody is a wonderful thing and nobody else should try and disrespect that just because they don't agree with it. Personally, I wouldn't want to be without my collection as experiencing the music, artwork and overall packaging of each record evoke so many emotions and provide memories of family members who are, sadly no longer with us, that I can't imagine my life without them.
I am very lucky that my partner is so understanding and although she doesn't understand my passion for vinyl collecting there is no judgement cast from her either.
Keep up the wonderful work and be proud of what your vinyl collection means to you.

I used to girl out with a girl who was always asking why did I still have an interest in photography, I have been interested in photography for XXX years, we are no longer together.

Music is the joy of the world and anybody that embraces that is generally a far more open minded and well rounded person. The problem with your friend is they perceive record collecting as a male hobby and a pretty lady like you with a passion for vinyl doesn't compute. The joy of dropping a needle into the groove is one life's great pleasures. Everybody should try it. Keep doing you M and keep spinning x

The thing most people don’t like about physical media is the space it consumes and the inconvenience of having to do something. I’ve been buying records since I was 6 and I’m 48 now - my living room and bedroom are full of albums, granted I’m single now but even when I was married my wife got it. Keep doing what you’re doing - I love your channel and your passion, someday when there’s no internet streaming we will be sitting around playing our collections and enjoying them while others struggle to find something to do ♥️

Crazy... you do what you enjoy (as long as it is legal and ethical) and if your friends are critical of it, oh well.... nothing to stress over.. So cool your daughter is in med school... She will be able to resume this fantastic hobby once she finishes all her residency / fellowship requirements. It's a long and hopefully a very fulfilling journey as she will be doing so much good for her patients and their families !
I would have to agree with you if people want to make fun of our passion for vinyl records and music then so be it I think Melinda is a great UA-camr and she’s one of the best in the world because she loves her music and no one should look down on her or make fun of her when she buys new vinyl some people will get it some people won’t I am one of those that do.

Hello Melinda; Having a hobby that brings you happiness is wonderful. It can help relieve stress, keep you healthy & develop a positive frame of mind. As long as the hobby does not become an addiction. We are a bit older & have been collecting since the mid 60's. Like anything else whether you collect coins, stamps, comics, sports cards, SHOES, it must be done in moderation within your financial limitations. Depending on how much expendable cash you have available. Going out to stores searching for needed records is still exciting. Those who comment in a negative manner usually have habits which can be deemed questionable. Stay focused. Tina & Pat!~

Fortunately, my friends (especially Joe Mayo) and my family seem to understand my record collecting. In fact, my sister has often alerted me to vinyl finds in her town. However, I hear others express the same issues you're having. Don't let those people stop you from doing what you enjoy. I stumbled upon this video by pure chance. I just started collecting vinyl in the last few years, but my friends and stuff don’t comment about it. Having friendships is a partnership,they geek out about stuff I don’t care about but will listen and be entertained and the same with my hobbies, I geek out, they could care less but they entertain me. At first tho, some people tried those put down with me about my crafting hobbies and all my stuff…but I’m a smarty pants(nicest way to put it) and they quickly learned if they want to geek out about their passions, they going to have let me geek out about mines. Or they quickly get “I don’t care just like you don’t care about my passions”. And/or “it’s cheaper then therapy” great video!

Melinda, I am a 52 year old Australian man... I have two close friends. I lost a huge chunk of my friend group when I purchased my Steinway piano. The bitterness I received for that was alarming. I lost a lot of friends when I bought my Ferrari... again, a childhood passion and something I worked my arse off to achieve. I have learnt one reality, people only want to be your friend when they believe they are doing better than you are. The moment you are successful in whatever task you set yourself, the green eyed monster sets in and people drift away. I have literally been told when I asked the question, "why do you never contact me anymore..?", "We cannot live up to your standards." Wow!!! So I raised my standards higher.
You mentioned books... I have not had that experience. Nor art. I have in the past received so much criticism for collecting art and books.
Melinda, most people are boring, ignorant, basic individuals. Hence you mentioned sport... Sport exists to entertain the masses. Melinda, I put to you, your records are not the problem. The problem is you... You are an interesting, passionate, educated and successful lady... people cannot cope with that!

Man that sucks. As a fellow Australian also in his 50s I'd love to see your Steinway and your Ferrari. I studied classical piano up to 6th Grade as a younger man, I've only ever had the opportunity to play a Steinway once, at the Sydney Eisteddfod at the Opera House. I came 4th, but I didn't care at all because I got to play that magnificent instrument. What a privilege that was. As for your Ferrari, what model is it? I've always loved the 308GT4 Dino, an unloved model amongst aficionados but i couldn't give a toss. I've been lucky enough to have driven a couple, and I almost bought one back in the 1990s when they were comparatively cheap but I chose a wife instead. I still have the wife so it wasn't a bad call.
I also have an extensive book collection, but then, I own a second-hand bookshop so it'd be weird if I didn't. Every job has its perks. I've never had anyone run me down for being into books and records, friends or otherwise. Maybe I'm just lucky. There's some sad jealous people in the world, that's for sure. Me, I'm all about shared experience, so you enjoy your Steinway and your Ferrari and be sure to toast all the mean spirited folks with some nice whisky, or whatever your beverage of choice may be.
I might beg to differ slightly regarding sport though - my Grandmother was an extremely intelligent and articulate woman who lectured at Universities was a Test cricket tragic, and she has passed that particular obsession on to me. She got to see Bradman play and I wish I could say that. I justify it by pretending that Test cricket is a thinking mans game (as in, you need a degree of intelligence to fully understand it) and I will not be swayed, lol. Footy and all that, yeah, they can have it, but Test cricket is a truly unique pastime.

@@woopimagpie Thank you for your wonderful comment. My Steinway is a Spirio. I bought it for its self play capability. It’s a wonderful instrument for when all you want to hear all day is piano… I often have it playing all day long while I am working from home.
My Ferrari is a 812 Superfast. I bought it because I love that classic V12 in the front driving the rear wheels configuration. It’s a truly wonderful driving experience. Sadly it doesn’t get out much these days. I live on the Gold Coast which has become so unbelievably busy and congested.
I was a book ‘collector’ long before I considered myself a record collector. I have been acquiring signed first editions for going on 30 years now. I only got into buying records during Covid and as a result of picking up a secondhand B&O record player from my neighbour who was going to bin it when he (apparently) upgraded his system. I am a huge B&O fan… so I grabbed it. It’s a bit dodgy in the electronics; when I get a chance I will have it fully restored. It has me back into collecting records again though. One would argue for the art more so than the listening experience. Often I will have an album propped up on the piano whilst it is playing. Might be a bit weird but there you go… that’s me… a bit weird!
Wow, that's harsh that friends would desert you because of what you choose to spend your money on. Makes you wonder what kind of "friends" they were to begin with. Very immature would be my guess. Anyway your Steinway sounds awesome, and I don't even play, lol. My granny was an excellent pianist and played for the silent movies in the 20s. Cheers from North Carolina, USA.
As a kid I often listened to music and drew in my sketchbook. It’s still my escape today. Most of my records were passed on to me from people who knew they meant a lot to me. As a kid I only had 8 lps in my collection but they were ones I loved by Kiss, Aerosmith, Sweet and yes, Barry Manilow and Captain and Tennile.
Opening a new record at home is still such a rush and these days we have beautiful colors included. I collect toys and art books too. My friends made fun of my collecting too. They spent their allowance on booze etc… collecting saved my life most likely. My wife loves that I always stayed home with her instead of going out to clubs. She likes when I DJ for her on weekends and she likes hearing what new music I have discovered. Our nephews are into vinyl now and this weekend I’m passing on the Zeppelin records my brother in law gave me to his son. I got to be the keeper of them and I’m glad he’s getting his dads records. Spin some Dylan for Phillip….. sooner or later he’ll love it. The best records are growers. I really enjoy your channel. My family gets tired of me talking about records too.

People who have large voids in their life find a need to bring down other people. Most people don’t have passionate hobbies and it’s a shame. The sports thing is a good example, I gave up being passionate about sports, as a fan you have no influence in the outcome and at the end of the day it doesn’t effect your life at all whether your team wins or loses. Half of the time sports just upset people. I don’t talk vinyl with many people and it’s what has recently drove me to starting a channel as I start a new collection fresh. You are not alone! I hope to share my collection with my daughters one day!

Hey Melinda, I say if they don’t get it and don’t want to try to understand, it’s their loss. At least we are passionate about something. It’s not as though we don’t love our families and are irresponsible regarding other areas of our life. The story about your nephew(?) hearing Zepp II on vinyl for the first time is a wonderful thing. Vinyl Is a collection of music, art, history, great liner notes (sometimes). It’s great that your husband enjoys the hunt and just being with you and supporting you in your passion. Music can be enjoyed on so many levels. You seek the purist (medium) source to listen to the artists. Don’t cast your pearls among swine, they just don’t understand. Take care 😊❤

I am grateful for the vinyl community on UA-cam. I don't have friends who love music as much as me. I often go to concerts by myself because people don't want to spend money on concerts. I am okay doing my own thing 🙂 Music makes me happy.

You be You, Melinda! WE all get it. Others don’t, but at the end of the day, it’s really none of their business. And imo, a Real friend would Want you to enjoy whatever makes you happy. I can relate to this. My Ex-Wife had mental issues (I’ll leave it at that) and abandoned my Daughter and I over 6 years ago, taking my Step Son with her who I loved as my own. Destroying my faith in relationships, tbh. That’s around the time when my personal vinyl resurgence began. Then a year later my Daughter went off to college. So for the last 4+ years it’s just been me and my dog at home. I have a lot of friends, but they do support it. They’ve nicknamed me Vinyl Tom, lol. Some of them have even picked up the hobby as well. Like you, my vinyl and HiFi hobby has Always been a source of happiness and a great distraction from the negative things in life. I think the hobby has gotten me thru more than I even know. I spin a couple records at the end of the work day everyday to unwind. Kind of a daily ritual, if you will. For me: The music takes me away to better times. I get excited when a new record shows up in the mail or if I find great records in the wild. And I don’t give a $#it What anyone thinks. If they’re my friends they’ll respect it. 👍 Keep on spinning 😊

I Love your comments about all the different types of records. This is the essence of our hobby. It amazing how much information is locked in the grooves. A quality Hi-fi system can extract that information and completely change the way we experience our music. This is why we keep changing components, upgrading our speakers, and finding new exciting ways to heard our collection. Thank you for this video it helps when you get the odd rude comment for those who don’t share our passion.
