OMG I shot soda out my nose at "SOReee, we cancelled your ORRderrr"! 😅 I can't top that with my story of the Beatles Thanksgiving at George's house where Ringo had the drumsticks, Paul got the Wings and all John wanted was cold turkey...
I absolutely agree with Billie E's whisper voicing almost everything. "What Was I Made For?" is a good example and I was so happy to see her at the Oscars breaking into her normal voice towards the second half, which is really great. I don't understand why she doesn't use it a lot more.
I LOVE The Acoustics In That Room Ur Sitting In... Tight...No Echoes...Music Shall Sound Absolutely Splendid In That Room...An EMERSON LAKE & PALMER~YES~PINK FLOYD~RUSH~KANSAS~Or BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS LP...
Great video, thanks Melinda. Fun fact about the phrase 'kisses on the bottom'. It was a catch phrase used by legendary Australian opera singer turned UK radio DJ Alan 'fluff' Freeman, best remembered for his wonderful Rock Show on Saturday afternoon in the 70s, 80s and 90s. The BBC gave him a daytime slot presenting standard pop fare. Listeners would write in with requests and so on, using pen and paper of course. One young lady ended her letter with the common sign off XXXXX. Good old fluff blithely announced 'and love the kisses on the bottom Sara'. The catchphrase stuck. And so another line was added to a thousand years of British innuendo! All right? Stay bright! Happy Thanksgiving.
Oh, I wouldn’t mind a part 2 to this, or to see it become a series with periodic updates. I thought this was equal parts heartfelt and hilarious. Anyone getting bent out of shape from your opinions is taking this hobby too seriously.
This video is so much fun to watch. As the Dutch say, "Ze zit echt op haar praatstoel" translated literally as "She is really sitting on her talking chair" which means she has a lot to say. In a positive way. The audience keeps listening and it's not boring for even a second. More turkeys for part 2 please 🦃🦃 and happy Thanksgiving for the harvest of both food and records 😊
Hehe, my LP collection is far too small and carefully curated to have any "turkeys" worth mentioning. But my CD collection? That’s a whole different story. Not only does it include albums from bands I no longer like, but also from bands I’m downright embarrassed to admit I ever liked. On top of that, it’s full of impulse buys-products of a time before streaming, when a recommendation or a cool album cover was often all it took to convince me to make the purchase. And I agree with your assessment of Billy Eilish, she is undoubtedly creative and very talented, as is her brother. And she seems like a lovely person in interviews, but her whisper style does get to me too. I can't listen to it too much.
Never be ashamed of loving a certain band. I admitted to loving Neil Diamond. Lol. Billie is very popular. Her whispers just get on my nerves after a few songs too. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Lol, what a great video! It had me laughing all the way through, especially the Neil Diamond cover! 😂Happy Thanksgiving and we will be having prime rib, like we do every year.
The biggest turkey in my collection is also one of my favorite records: "Sports Cars in Stereo." It was released to take advantage of the "new" stereo recording technique, and all it is is the sound of sports cars racing from right to left on a racetrack. With track titles like "Ferrari on an S-Curve," how could you not love it? Admittedly, I've only listened for a minute or so at a time, but I'm very happy to have this clunker in my collection.
A marvelous concept for a VC video Melinda I can't seem to get rid of lps i don't like especially the TURKEYS. Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Keep rockN! 4:21
I saw Van Halen when they were still a garage band. They performed at a club in Redondo Beach, California, in 1976, called the SMOKESTACK. It was packed, and everyone under 21 was drinking.
Hi, Melinda: The title for the McCartney LP "Kisses On The Bottom" comes from a line in "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter"..... the problem with the LP is that almost every song has the same sluggish tempo. One cardinal rule is to not have songs in the same key follow one another. The other is to change the tempo to avoid listener fatigue. They "should have known better"! PS-I have the "Highway 61 Revisited" with the alternate "From A Buick 6"- if you ever come to Las Vegas, we can have a listening party! Happy Thanksgiving! :)
Hi Melinda and community. I bought my first record player today from a swap meet. A 1960s suitcase GE player V638h. It's in decent condition and came with an extra stylus. I don't know if the stylus is dull so it may need to be replaced. I do have a question about it. Could the needle or stylus be dull? When I play tracks closer to the edges, it has the tendency to skip more. As it goes closer to the spindle, it hardly skips. When I play 78s, it's fine even from the outside. I don't know if the records are dirty. I do lightly brush them with a soft cloth along the grooves. Any tips for doing it right? The used records I bought are Al Jarreau, Merle Haggard, Boston and Benny Goodman. The small built in speaker isn't the loudest or fullest sound but it has a warm glow. I've also heard that the stylus arms may need to be balanced better by weights but I don't see such adjustments.
The skipping could be from many things. I would start by giving the records a good cleaning. If you can buy some vinyl record cleaning solution and some microfiber cloth towels, that could help. If the records have a lot of scratches, that may also be a factor. When we bought a vintage turntable, we did replace the stylus and make sure the tonearm was balanced correctly. It's a good idea to do all of these things. I know that sounds like a lot but I promise you will love the results. Congrats on your turntable. Take care.
Sammy Hagar is a great singer. I learned to like him in VH once I got over Dave's departure. I'm a VJ fan no matter who is singing as long as Eddie is there too. Thank you and take care. ♥️😃
5150 is stellar. Just a different era for Van Halen. A lot of folks are forgetting that Van Halen in the Sammy era was going platinum consistently and filling arenas. Great stuff. I loved both eras, simply different.
I like the way jazz musicians use their instruments to mimic the human voice as well as city noise, alley cats, and other creatures. The saxes and piano mimic the common expression”So what” in the song of the same title. And I like how the jazz singer will use his or her voice as an instrument or sing a phrase as a player might play it. This back and forth thing that happens in jazz is fun. Seems natural that by scatting the singer’s voice can be even more flexible and truly sound like an instrument. But like any good thing it can be overdone, even by the great Ella Fitzgerald. Rock singers and players learned to do something similar, like Page and Plant echoing and leading the other one on. This was a fun video. Thanks, Melinda.
The Pat Benatar issue is like Cher refusing to sing "Bang Bang" or Foster The People refusing to perform "Pumped Up Kicks" or The Escape Club refusing to perform "Wild Wild West" or Golden Earring refusing to perform "Twilight Zone". We could probably go on and on...
All these years and I didn't know about the alternate version of "From a Buick 6"...so I went to my Dylan section and sure enough, I have a Canadian 1A pressing with the same stampers as the US - I will play it tomorrow to see if it is the rare version. If so, maybe finding a Canadian pressing might be easier (?) than a US one. Thank you for sharing this! Hoping you are well and for the record, I love "My Valentine" much more than "Temporary Secretary: ;)
I agree! That order cancellation still has me shaking my head. As you know, I ended up cancelling my preorder (for the black vinyl version) from them shortly thereafter, and will wait to see what happens. Part of the reason is that their shipping cost is too high for me to order from them much anymore--nearly $11 for a single record? I'll pass. In the past, you could request USPS Media Mail via email and they would change the order, but per the email I received they will not do that anymore. At least Music Direct has a lower free shipping threshold ($49...for now), or I'll save up for a larger order and give it to The 'In' Groove.
I agree. I was willing to spend more on shipping for the special blue vinyl copy. Hopefully, this record will be sold at other stores and I will buy it at that time. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Your Neil Diamond cover shot comment reminds me of the cover photo for Peter Gabriel's live album. He's wearing makeup created to be seen at a distance (from the days before big screen video screens at concert venues) but it looks weird in an extreme closeup. That's an exceptional album by the way, & it includes a great song unavailable as a studio version, "I Go Swimming."
I enjoyed your collection of "turkeys". I think most vinyl collectors have quite a few. I know I do! I still play most of them once in a while. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Thank you Melinda. You really brightened up my morning. It was a fun video to watch. By the way, I have the same Billie Eilish album from Target. It’s a horrible pressing which sounds like someone rubbed sand paper on the record. Definitely, the biggest turkey in my collection!
There are a lot of pops. I thought glow in the dark vinyl would be cool. Not! It still manages to sound great as long as the music is playing. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I used to have similar cringy feelings about Ella Fitzgerald “scat” vocals until I heard a documentary about Louis Armstrong. Ella was always a huge fan of Armstrong who was not only a musical influence on Fitzgerald but who was also a great mentor to her. As the story goes, during a 1926 recording session of the tune "Heebies Jeebies”, Armstrong forgot the lyrics to the song. So, instead of stopping the session, he invented an improved gibberish vocal melody in place of the lyrics. As the tune became a hit, Armstrong became associated with the vocal styling. So Ella’s use of “scat” vocals was NOT an affectation as I had originally thought, but instead was more of an homage to her musical mentor, Mr Louis Armstrong. For me, this historical reverence for one of the greats made me appreciate Ella so much more.
I have had my turkey 1st world problems today. When watching this video the right stereo channel appears to be out on my old pioneer sx780 receiver in my kitchen patched to my PC so went to check the connections and moved to another input source tape monitor 2. While doing this I hit my head, ouch! and tried listening to the video again and was not getting any sound at all. I forgot to flip down the tape 2 switch but still only hearing you only on the left speaker. My heart was racing because I love this vintage stereo receiver. I then I went to the living room and watched the video on my home theater setup switched to stereo and again hearing you only on the left speaker. After trouble shooting for 20 minutes with ice on my head from the new bump it is fair to conclude that my equipment is ok and my beloved Pioneer sx780 from 1979 is ok yay! To celebrate I am having a slice of apple pie being saved for thanksgiving for breakfast right now and I don't care that I will bring a pie missing one big slice. This is because I am a retired middle aged guy in my late 50's who can do what I #%&%# Please! I love being a turkey and I still love your videos even if they only have sound on the left speaker! Take care Melinda. Have a great holiday everyone! PS, I am now tearing into the pumpkin pie and I don't care!
I'm very sorry about that! You poor guy. Someone else told me that same thing. I don't know what went wrong with my mic but please accept my apologies. Take care.
Another great video, Melinda! We all change our attitudes during our lifetimes so, you may have liked something way back when but then later you change your mind. Music isn't an exception. You don't have to like everything your favorite recording artists might do. I bought a real turkey of an album the other day. It was an album by Carole Bayer Sager, "Sometimes Late At Night". I started listening and began to wonder, 'what is this K-rap?'. I sent it back to Amazon. lol
I agree. We don't have to like everything our favorite artists do. They are allowed to have creativity and take chances with their art. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
When I was a Radio Jock (2000-2004) for WTRR-FM (no longer transmitting) as London Lou I produced a Thanksgiving Special in my studio with these songs to celebrate the Holiday: 1. Eat It - Weird Al Yankovic 2. If Music Be The Food of Love - Samantha Fox 3. Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie - Jay & The Techniques 4. Tall Cool One - Robert Plant 5. Song For The Shrimp - Elvis Presley 6. Turkey Trot - Little Eva 7. Spam - Save Ferris 8. Mother Popcorn - James Brown 9. Flaming Pie - Paul McCartney 10. Ripe Tomato - The Jolly Boys 11. Apples Peaches Bananas and Pears - The Monkees 12. Ice Cream Man - Van Halen 13. Closer To The Bone - Louis Prima 14. Lollipop - The Chordettes 15. Sweet Cherry Wine - Tommy James & The Shondells 16. B-BQue - ZZ Top The Station Manager played it for a full week ending December 1st and the listeners really enjoyed it You probably have all these records so I thought you might playlist these while preparing your Holiday Feast! Great video Melinda❤See you next week and Happy Thanksgiving!
Preach! Same exact thing happened to me on that Miles/AS situation. Handled super poorly - A WEEK LATER - and inspired me to cancel my open orders with them. They don’t need my money, clearly. I will not order again until they transform the website (or learn to count). Happy Thanksgiving Melinda ✌🏻
At least I am in good company. That was incredibly frustrating. ☹️ I haven't been ordering from Acoustic Sounds due to the high shipping fees but I was willing to pay it for this record. Oh well. I may still buy the black one if it will still be available somewhere. Thank you and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. ♥️🤗
@@MelindaMurphyIf you have the 58 Sessions release you already have the tracks on Birth of the Blue. Just pointing that out because when I first heard about this I thought it was something new that had been unearthed. Not so.
This is a funny episode, thanks for the laughs Melinda! 😂 My mom watched part of this with me and laughed too! Not sure what Neil Diamond is doing there, maybe wishful thinking, but the snark is absolutely justified. I do hope you find that rare version of Highway 61 Revisited. My understanding is that copies with a -1A, -1B, or -1C in the dead wax have that harmonica intro version.
I'm glad you and your mom appreciated the humor in this one. You are right about the Dylan album. I hope to find the right copy of it someday. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Hot august night was my partners favourite record of all time. I agree about the cover pic but grew to like it as he liked it. It’s a brilliant record. Sadly he’s no longer with me so whenever I see it in a shop or wherever I buy it cos it’s like he’s looking down on me saying hello. Great video as always Melinda xxx
Looks like you got your furniture and other possessions from your movers! I like turkeys, especially when alive! Yes, my era...I'm with you...scatting...like breaking glass...love her normal style. Well, to be fair, I have never heard of most of the songs or artists, except Paul and Ella...onward...I have to admit...I never warmed up to heavy metal, hard rock...pop music of the mid 70s to present...my opinion, only! I relate to my growing up years and earlier...love the music styles from the jazz age (1920s) to the 1960s (early-later rock)!
@@MelindaMurphy I'm spinning my vintage Christmas sounds, on CD, 45, 33...and 78! I have a couple of "Turkey" records...they are vintage children's 78s...from my childhood...songs about birds...including turkeys! May you and your family have a "Merry Little Christmas"!
Two points about Paul. Kisses on the Bottom was a common phrase in the days of letter writing - remember that! After the writer finished the letter they would sign it and put kisses XXX on the bottom. It is actually a very innocent phrase. Two, My Valentine is a brilliant song as is Only My Hearts. Scatting is brilliant! Oh well each to their own.
Awesome sweatshirt, Melinda! I was a casual Garth Brooks listener, but when I saw that box set on clearance at Target for 20 bucks, I snatched it up. My regret is I didn't look at it close enough and thought it contained ALL of his albums. I guess it was still a good deal though.
Me again Melinda, going on about the joys of Kisses On the Bottom, if that's the phrase I'm looking for !! Aside from the great My Valentine, Only Our Hearts is another beautiful Paul original. But the one that touches Paulie himself the most is More I Cannot Wish you which makes him think of his youngest daughter. Give that one a fresh listen with this knowledge and then tell me the album's a turkey. Much love from a wet, windy England.
In regard to Van Halen, I'm 47, so I hardly knew who the members of the band were at the time in 86. I just knew I liked the music. That album with Sammy is so nostalgic to my childhood in the 80's. I have an original pressing on vinyl and CD.
For me, the magic was with Dave but the Sammy years are nostalgic because I was finally old enough to go to the concerts and buy the cassettes. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
"Kisses on the bottom" is from Fats Waller's song "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter", where he is writing a letter to his girl and putting ( hugs and ) kisses on the bottom of the letter. Yhea, it's a pretty cheesy title but Sir Paul needs all the edgy-ness that he can get. You probably know all of this anyway. I never miss a video. (Actually, Fats is writing a letter to himself and making believe it's from his girl.)
Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate it so much. I never really knew why he named that album Kisses on the Bottom. That's interesting and I knew that there must have been a story behind it. Thanks again and take care. 🤗♥️
Melinda, I agree with everything you said. Because it's how you feel about those records? We all have those anybody,That's been collecting for any time have their own turkeys, that's for sure. My thoughts on the Pat Benatar song, i always thought that that was about a woman or a girl that knew this dude and the dude thought he could have any girl or woman he wanted and she was like hit me with your best shot fire away. See if you can get me or not.I had never thought of it being about anything about a gun. Enjoy your your videos!!!
Hi Melinda - The connotation of Hit Me With Your Best Shot & the line Fire Away was not one I ever associated with violence but indeed with a more ... " intimate " act .. & more importantly artists shouldn't capitulate to an act of violence or terrorism because thats a victory for thd perpetrators of those acts. Happy Holidays 🎄 😊 !
I have bronze baby shoes! As far a 5150 I remember being bummed about Dave not being there too. Funny the first song you mention is Summer Nights...that's my favorite and I think the one song on the record that sounds like the old Van Halen. I thought Trout Mask Replica would be on your list....I'm glad you like it now! The only turkeys I can think of in my collection are The Heart Touching Magic of Jim Nabors, as well as Don Ho and Boxcar Willie. These are records that came from my grandma's collection that she bought from the TV. They mean a lot because they were hers but they don't get played. Well, maybe Boxcar Willie, he's ok. Great video and take care!
I remember seeing the commercials for Don Ho and Boxcar Willie. Lol. Slim Whitman also had a lot of commercials for an album back in the day. I thought about showing Trout Mask Replica. I still have it in the collection. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I was ALWAYS a DLR guy - and still am today. But I've been coming around on Sammy. They sure don't make music like that anymore, eh Melinda? Great vid as always, happy holidays to you and your family.
Colored vinyl is all hype anyway..You cannot see the dust/dirt on colored vinyl. An alternate selection would be the (much cheaper) Miles/Coltrane (March 24 1960, The Final Tour) album on Blue Note.
The same thing happened to me when buying a colored version of the new Beatles song. It was 6 months before they said that color variant would not be pressed again. I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving in the new place.
I ordered two TV series on Blu-ray only released in Australia. They were on sale and I figure I’ll never get this deal again. So I ordered and waited two months for shipping to Germany. The next thing I got was a delivery confirmation and it showed it was delivered to the store in Australia where I ordered it from! Then I got notification of a full refund. I was told the shipment made it to Germany, but could not be delivered. It turns out I had one number transposed in the zip code! One number! Now the store says I’m welcome to order the discs again, but they are no longer at the sale prices I paid. First world problems on Mars!
Unbelievably Melinda I agree with just about everything you said the only thing was Pat benatar, Hit me with your Best shot, well I'm so glad she's never singing it again👍 it's a turkey song to me 😄
I made a video about my favorite Christmas songs several years ago. It was a fun video to make. Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Take care dear friend! ♥️
Another fun video! I recently learned that The Babys were the first rock band to sign a million dollar record deal, Chrysalis signed them after the band invested in a new thing called a video, they were also the first rock band I ever saw live, I went to see Alice Cooper in 79, The Babys opened the show, and I have been a John Waite fan ever since, thanks for listening, hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Great video. Really like your rants, always done with passion, tact, and humor. Great singing btw. You'll never top last year when you gave Walmart the double raspberry for discontinuing $15 vinyl on black friday 😂. I really like 5150 and VHIII. Summer Nights and Without You are great tracks. I'm with you on Kiss, bailed after Animalize. I'm a big fan of The Elder. Happy Thanksgiving.
I don't understand why so many UA-camrs say that Adele's 30 was a "failure". It wasn't. 30 reached number one in twenty five countries. In the UK, it achieved the highest first-week sales for any album by a female artist since since her own third studio album, 25. It spent five weeks at number one there and six in the US. 30 was the best-selling album of the year in both countries, as well as worldwide, with 5.54 million copies sold. The album received acclaim from many music critics and many called it Adele's best album yet. On Metacritic, which gives a normalised score out of 100 to ratings from publications, the album received a weighted mean score of 88 based on 23 reviews, giving it "universal acclaim". It is Adele's highest-rated album on the site. I know that main issue was that many believed the production of vinyl records for 30 had contributed to "a major delay" in the vinyl industry. There was never any proof of this and many reports now-a-days say that it probably wasn't her or her album's fault. Yes, there were many fans who did not like the album because they wanted another '25' and what they got was a deeper album with a deeper meaning than her previous work. No, I'm not a 'hardcore' Adele fan, but I do appreciate her work. I just do not like when facts are not presented correctly or misinterpeted. Sorry for the criticism, but I stand by what I say. Have a happy holiday.
They pressed a ton of these records and they didn't sell near as many as they expected to. I like her too and I think she is very talented. It might be a critical success but her everyday fans didn't like this one as much as her other albums. No biggie. She's still an incredible artist. Thank you and I wish you a wonderful holiday season. Take care. ♥️🤗
That Hot August Night is Diamond's rockingest looking cover, and the bronze shoes cover is clever for a greatest hits anthology, so hold the cranberries for me. Love you Melinda!
Love the theme. Holy crap I've got a album you don't have. I bought the rare/recalled Dylan Highway 61 Revisited. Bought it 45 years ago for $20 (VG/G+). I has the Hendrix Electric Lady Land 20 nudes in may hand and put it back. Always regretted not buying that one.
Wow! That's so amazing. I will keep looking for my Dylan rarity. I will find it eventually - or I will have 100 copies of this. Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Hey Melinda - just thought I would let you know that you seem to have lost your right hand channel? My stereo is working perfectly, however only getting one audio channel from you? Cya Doug
Speaking of surprise e-mails, I got one from Music Direct regarding my order for "Odyssey and Oracle." It's still backordered, and MD reserves the right to cancel the order if it reaches 6 months of backorder. What! Not the same as your experience with AS, but in the general ballpark. What, exactly, was the specific reason they gave for the cancellation, if they gave any? I hope they did. I have that Neil Diamond LP! Never thought about the cover, though; I got a chuckle out of your take on it. As for turkeys in my collection, I give an honorable mention to "Chicago at Carnegie Hall," a live, 4-LP set. My problem is that they didn't do any clean-up or tweaks of the sound, and the trombone sounds like a kazoo. To me, it's still a live album even if you sweeten it up a bit. I wish they had. I'd play it more.
Oh wow! I had no idea that your record is on backorder. That's a shame. I hope they get it back in stock soon. I don't have that Chicago album so I appreciate the warning. Lol. Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🤗♥️
Hi Melinda, I had something similar happen on a UHQR, but after waiting so long and the LP was available I was informed my order was going to be canceled. Turns out my credit card expired. I called them and updated my new credit card card info.
Lol. I have had that happen to me before too. I wish that was the case with this order. I guess I will buy that record at another time. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I was totally different about Sammy joining VH. Only a few years earlier I discovered the first Montrose album. I was never really a Dave fan, so it was like a dream come true (no pun intended). But, I know lots of DLR only folks, so respect.
I have a very weird experience with Amazon getting a multi disc Deutsche Gammophon's Original Source Series LPs... This happen to be sold by Amazon Japan. Website says it will take 4 to 6 weeks which I am ok with. ~ 3 months later, after a couple of assurances that it WILL be delivered early November, Amazon CANCELLED THE ORDER without any warning. Yesterday, the same record is again available in Amazon sold by Amazon Japan, also 4 to 6 weeks delivery... I don't think so.... Sadly, no accountability.
Keep up the great work Melinda, same thing happened to me on the Miles Davis Blue Record and about 5 or 6 harder to find records with Acoustic Sounds over the past few years. I think they need to improve their software. But I’m not sure if they are trying to correct it.
I was definitely disappointed. I know updating their website would be very expensive. It's probably a cost they can't justify at the moment. It's still frustrating for the buyer though. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
nooooooooo not Crazy Nights! 😂😂 I do like it but then again I love Unmasked (And The Elder too) I think most people would agree with you tho about Crazy Nights and Unmasked. So, basically it's not you, it's me. :) Great video. I can't believe people would get offended - I think they may have too much time on their hands. :)
If you think the Garth Brooks box is the first time a "limited edition" went mass production, let me take you back to the 2000's (don't remember the year and I'm too lazy to look) and the first Beatles remasters. They issued remastered CD's and digitally sourced vinyl. The limited item was supposed to be the "Mono" box, all the albums in mono digitally sourced on vinyl and CD. I did a preorder for the limited edition (yes, I bought the CD's). Days after the first shipments, the limited edition became a standard shelf item with a price drop. Since the initial sets shipped, no refunds were given. To put salt into the wound, the vinyl mono box was reissued a few years back all analog sourced. I still feel like a turkey when I think about it.
Melinda, you made me LOL when you showed that McCartney record and said the title. I had never heard of that. Kisses on the Bottom? Really, Paul? lololol (Also, I bought that Neil Diamond album based on the cover alone because it was just too hideous to believe; it makes me laugh every time I look at it).
Yeah we definitely all have those turkeys and have been turkeys too! I just got one myself in the last few weeks. I bought the 5 LP Jimi Hendrix box set for Electric Lady Studios that just came out in the beginning of October. It came to $130 buying it at $120. I had to buy it from Amazon because I had no way to get anywhere and buy it anywhere else. But that didn't make any difference. I pre-ordered it and the day it was released the price dropped $10. The day after that, or maybe even the same day again, it dropped another $5. I called Amazon and they would not issue a refund on the $15 price drop. So I bought it at the cheaper price, returned the first copy I got, and then had a problem with Amazon where they were cheating me out of $30. I decided that I just wasn't buying from Amazon anymore. I've been having some other issues with items prior to that. And it took forever to even get my refund for the first box set. It took 3 weeks. Now the box set sounds great and I love it. But just two or three days ago, through an app I use that shows me price drops on vinyl, I saw that Amazon is selling it now for $68.50. that's almost half the price of what I paid for the box set just six or seven weeks ago. I'm definitely the turkey in that one myself! On a side note, and this I can't explain, I got $27.00 back from Amazon for something I didn't even return. And that wasn't even the full price on the item they showed they were giving me a refund on. Needless to say, I didn't say anything! I don't know if one of the supervisors I spoke with felt bad for me and did something or what the story is? But a new coffee maker I had bought around the same time as the Jimi Hendrix box set showed that I returned it and I got that partial refund. It wasn't even half the price of the coffee maker but who knows what was going on? And on one more, and my last, side note...I was just reading in the news today that Amazon employees in 20 countries are planning to strike on Black Friday and for however long. I'm not trying to make this a "down with Amazon" reply or anything like that. Heck, I have to buy from them all too often due to my situation and transportation issues. I'm legally blind and I cannot drive and Uber is no longer a viable option with their prices. But I've been telling a couple of friends lately that something has been going on at Amazon and I've been getting a lot of used items over the last few months that were not brand new. Some of them were not even wrapped in shrink wrap when they were LPs. And I'm not kidding when I say out of about 6 or 7 orders I had made before and around the Jimi Hendrix box set purchase, 4 of those were used items. No question about it. So maybe this is a good thing that I've quit getting some things from them unless I just have no other choice and need it. I'm sure I will buy more from them in the future but as of late I just haven't wanted to spend my money with them. Let them get back on their game and I'll see. Okay, I promise this will be the last paragraph in this long message. Really! I just wanted to mention to you that Rhino, who I have started ordering from again, has had some good deals going on on their High Fidelity pressings. Dave dropped the price I'm just about everything and if you spend $50 or more you get free shipping. I'm sure this is probably just a Black Friday deal but I didn't buy the ZZ Top box set for $200 when it came out. But I did want to get some of the albums. Does High Fidelity albums are down to $33.50 and if you buy two of them the shipping is free. I bought the two that I wanted. I don't think it's just the High Fidelity series LPs either and it's pretty much across the board what they have available. I can't confirm that 100% but it looked that way. I just thought I'd mention it since I know you like great sounding music :-) Happy Thanksgiving Melinda to you and your family! Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Thanks for sharing. What a frustrating story. At least you were able to get some of that money back. Sometimes we are the winners and sometimes we lose when it comes to sales. 😏 I will have to check out Rhino. I have been wanting some of those ZZ Top records. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
OMG acoustic sounds has done this to me a couple of times. They seriously need to upgrade their website because everything else from the company is awesome. One time I ordered Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and they cancelled it. I ended up finding it somewhere else and then two days later AS sends me an email informing me they are shipping the boxset. They didn't ship it yet so I called and told them not to ship as they cancelled it and I bought it elsewhere. They still charged me and shipped it and wouldn't refund me until I sent it back and they received it. Normally they are very good with their customer service, but I usually don't trust I have an album from them until I receive it. Have a good and save Thanksgiving.
Wow! What happened to you was much worse than my situation. They do need to improve their website. Like you said, everything else is wonderful. Thank you and take care. 😃♥️
I loved your Marilyn Monroe impression! I agree about the Billie Eilish. I'm purging it soon. Robert Fithin has gone on record with the same opinion. Maybe it is because we're middle-aged that we dont relate to it. Have a great Turkey Day!
One thing about rebuilding collection is you don’t bother buying any of those Turkey albums. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. For the first time since 2006 I will have Thanksgiving with my whole family. I need to go start cooking now
Have U Ever Found Records U Forgot U Had~But Was Pleasantly Surprised When U Saw Them? It's Occurred With Me~Although I Have A Sad Collection Of Fewer Than 20...
First up, your Marilyn Monroe happy Birthday made this a must see video!! Loved it! I agree with you about KISS’s “Music From The Elder”, I like that one, I also like “Unmasked”. Regarding Pat Benatar, she’s never liked “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, the song was written by a guy, for a guy, and she just never liked the idea of a woman saying “Hit me” regardless of what the intention was. So no surprise that she dropped it, she hated from the day she recorded it. That Garth Brooks set IS a turkey because if you bought the big set, you ended up buying four or five albums six times! The set has the vinyl and the CDs. Just a ploy to rack up album sales on his part, something he’s done for years now. I don’t like that. Cher has been everywhere lately because of her new autobiography that just came out, her “Dancing Queen” album of ABBA covers is a turkey. If you’ve not heard it, it’s literally just Cher singing ABBA for a full album. It’s awful. I like Cher, I like ABBA but the two don’t mix. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love Cher and I just bought her autobiography today. I think I enjoy her as an entertainer and actress more than her recent music. I haven't heard her take on ABBA and doesn't sound like I want to. Lol. She's a part of my childhood so I will always have a place in my heart for her. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I find some odd pleasure in retaining some turkeys in my collection, partly due to being a completist. I am not a purist as such, though I have gotten rid of quite a few compilations over the years, but just as life has its ups and downs, so do the discographies of even the artists we call personal favourites. My alltime favourite pop group is A-ha. The Norwegian geniuses came on the scene when I was 12, and they remain a firm favourite of mine 39 years later. That said, their 2006 release, Analogue, is a bona fide stinker. But it´s also the only album of theirs that I don´t like at all; all of their other records have plenty for me to appreciate.
Every band/artist puts out a record that just doesn't measure up to the rest. A-Ha is a great band. My daughter likes them a lot. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Great video Melinda as always, but not any love for turkey and 5150 to boot?, well that is just sacrilege...... pure sacrilege I tell ya!!! 🤣😯😜🦃 My favorite song on 5150 is summer nights, used to crank it up cruising around when I lived in Indiana. My question to you is how would you have felt about Van Halen if Patty Smyth from Scandal had joined the band? You know Eddie offered her the job before Sammy, but she turned it down. It would have been really weird hearing a female voice guiding Van Halen ( No offense to the Lady's). Hope you have a wonderful holiday !!! Oh and maybe you can do the Hams in your collection around Christmas! 🤣😉
Summer Nights is a fun song. I like the album but it took a long time to accept that Dave was gone. I honestly don't know how I would have felt about Patty joining the band. I guess I would have had to hear it. For me, there was no replacing Dave at that time. Thank you and take care.
Same thing happened to me. Tower Records cancelled my order for the blue Vinyl 10,000 Maniacs Unplugged. Had to scramble to find it and had to order from Strip Joint Records in England, only a few bucks more and they actually got it to me very fast. Makes you think!!!
Wow..I have an old copy of Hiway-61 that I purchased when I was in High School. I never play it since I got it on SACD back in 2005. Now I'm curious... I caught Pat Benatar live in NJ in 80 or '81 (can't remember) and she sang that one ("Hit Me...") and "Hell is for Children". I didn't think much about Hell..when she was singing that one either.
You will have to check out that old Dylan album. You never know. 😃 Hell is for Children is definitely not a favorite song for me. She can retire that one. Lol. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Had to comment again when you got to the BABYS. Totally agree, subpar album cover but a great band and a great compilation album, not a bad song on there! Although, looking at the song, Sweet Seventeen, now as a parent, yikes 🤣
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Melinda! Looks like my best friend and I are aiming for RSD at Tonevendor at 6:30 AM Friday. Hope the turkey has worn off by then... 🥱
Great video . Side effect of collecting is getting the odd turkey . Soundtracks are the worst culprits with me , bad pressings . Thanks for your creative videos . Best wishes , 😊😊😊
As is always the case, your video presentation this time was again outstanding. I won’t agree or disagree with you regarding the comments you made on the various albums you presented. Individually, we all have our likes and dislikes and possibly a bit of OCD. What floored me was when you presented Crimes of Passion by Pat Benatar. Each song on that album relates to love and passion. Your interpretation of Hit Me With Your Best Shot should not relate to any actual shooting(s). That or those incidents were not committed out of passion. Here I agree do agree with you that Benatar should continue to sing that song. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and regardless of what is on your dinner table this Thanksgiving, I do wish you and your entire family a joyous and memorable holiday! 😁
I think the album is very good. Benatar is a fantastic singer, but I thought it was weird when she announced she was going to retire the song due to gun violence. I never thought that song had anything to do with that anyway. Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. I really appreciate it. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🤗♥️
OMG I shot soda out my nose at "SOReee, we cancelled your ORRderrr"! 😅 I can't top that with my story of the Beatles Thanksgiving at George's house where Ringo had the drumsticks, Paul got the Wings and all John wanted was cold turkey...
This is so clever. ♥️ Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
@@michaeljacobson4844 I also had issues with soda after reading that gem..😁🤘 happy Thanksgiving Sir
I absolutely agree with Billie E's whisper voicing almost everything. "What Was I Made For?" is a good example and I was so happy to see her at the Oscars breaking into her normal voice towards the second half, which is really great. I don't understand why she doesn't use it a lot more.

I LOVE THE SNARK! 😁 😂 More snark please! Thanks Melinda!
Lol. Thank you! ♥️🤗
Thank you for what Paul Harvey used to call "the rest of the story." ♥️🤗 Take care.
Oh, I wouldn’t mind a part 2 to this, or to see it become a series with periodic updates. I thought this was equal parts heartfelt and hilarious. Anyone getting bent out of shape from your opinions is taking this hobby too seriously.
I'm glad you liked it! I might do a Part 2 in the future. It's just too much fun! 😄 Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Out of print?
This video is so much fun to watch. As the Dutch say, "Ze zit echt op haar praatstoel" translated literally as "She is really sitting on her talking chair" which means she has a lot to say. In a positive way. The audience keeps listening and it's not boring for even a second. More turkeys for part 2 please 🦃🦃 and happy Thanksgiving for the harvest of both food and records 😊
Thank you very much. 🤗♥️ Take care.
That sounds delicious! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃!
Wow! That sounds very unique. I'd love to check it out! Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
A marvelous concept for a VC video Melinda I can't seem to get rid of lps i don't like especially the TURKEYS. Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Keep rockN! 4:21
You never know, one of those turkeys may grow on you. Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. ♥️🤗
Hey Melinda. Great video! 3 laughing cats to all your selections 😹😹😹Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving! 🤗♥️
I saw Van Halen when they were still a garage band. They performed at a club in Redondo Beach, California, in 1976, called the SMOKESTACK. It was packed, and everyone under 21 was drinking.
Oh wow! That must have been so cool. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
I agree with you about the Hot August Night album cover but that concert album is so great I can overlook the cover!😂😂😂. Your video was fun to watch!
I agree. I love Neil and this concert is wonderful. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
That McCartney album was proof positive he loves schlock. It's unlistenable.
Congrats on the Dylan album. Very cool. I agree with you, Paul's album is boring for the most part. You are right on why. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
@@MelindaMurphy You may think it is boring but that is just your opinion.
Take care.
5150 is my favorite VH album, but then again I'm a Sammy man. I still don't have any DLR albums but I've slowly began appreciating DLR VH.
Sammy Hagar is a great singer. I learned to like him in VH once I got over Dave's departure. I'm a VJ fan no matter who is singing as long as Eddie is there too. Thank you and take care. ♥️😃
@MelindaMurphy you too Melinda and have a good holiday weekend.
5150 is stellar. Just a different era for Van Halen. A lot of folks are forgetting that Van Halen in the Sammy era was going platinum consistently and filling arenas. Great stuff. I loved both eras, simply different.
Hi Melinda, parts of your video made me laugh at loud.. Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving
I'm so sorry for the late response. Thank you very much. ♥️🤗
LOL! Awesome upload & Happy Thanksgiving,Melinda!!!😁
Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving! 🤗♥️
@MelindaMurphy Welcome! 🤗❤️
Scatting here and there is fine but it can be overdone. Lol. Thank you and enjoy your weekend. ♥️🤗
They are no longer playing their best songs. 🤔 That's crazy. Thank you and take care.
I apologize for the late response. I hope you struck gold with the Dylan album. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Your copy of "Between The Buttons" looks just like the first copy I had. Oh my gosh how I love that album!
Maybe it's your old copy. Lol. Thank you and take care. 😄
I looked up that album cover out of curiosity. I have seen that before. Thank you for explaining that to me. Take care. 🤗♥️
I enjoyed your collection of "turkeys". I think most vinyl collectors have quite a few. I know I do! I still play most of them once in a while. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
I hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving. ♥️ It's ok to have a few records that we consider "turkeys" in the collection. Thank you and take care.
I ordered both versions, I’ll send you a picture of my blue version when it arrives 🤓😜
Congrats! I'm glad you are getting a copy. ♥️🤗
Just remember middle age women know our music. We had cool radio back in the day, and we could listen to so much variety.
Very true! 🤗♥️ Thank you!
I ordered both versions, I’ll send you a picture of my blue version when it arrives 🤓😜
Also totally agree with skating, just lazy.
That's a great story. I knew Ella was influenced by Louis so that makes a lot of sense. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Great selection as usual. Oh, and you don't look a day over 27 👍
Thank you! You know how to make an old lady feel good. Lol. Take care.

When I was a Radio Jock (2000-2004) for WTRR-FM (no longer transmitting) as London Lou I produced a Thanksgiving Special in my studio with these songs to celebrate the Holiday:
1. Eat It - Weird Al Yankovic
2. If Music Be The Food of Love - Samantha Fox
3. Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie - Jay & The Techniques
4. Tall Cool One - Robert Plant
5. Song For The Shrimp - Elvis Presley
6. Turkey Trot - Little Eva
7. Spam - Save Ferris
8. Mother Popcorn - James Brown
9. Flaming Pie - Paul McCartney
10. Ripe Tomato - The Jolly Boys
11. Apples Peaches Bananas and Pears - The Monkees
12. Ice Cream Man - Van Halen
13. Closer To The Bone - Louis Prima
14. Lollipop - The Chordettes
15. Sweet Cherry Wine - Tommy James & The Shondells
16. B-BQue - ZZ Top

At least I am in good company. That was incredibly frustrating. ☹️ I haven't been ordering from Acoustic Sounds due to the high shipping fees but I was willing to pay it for this record. Oh well.

We finally received most of our things. This move was rough. 😳 Ella is a great singer but I don't enjoy the scatting. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Thank you for the (much needed) clarification.
But it's not the same as putting XXX on a letter. It sucks as an album title for obvious reasons.
Exactly! It would be boring if we agreed on everything. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
It's a great box set. He needs to do another box with the rest of his albums in it. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
OMG, I couldn’t take my eyes offa yer video, so entertaining!!! Thank you for your genuine-ness, priceless!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Me again Melinda, going on about the joys of Kisses On the Bottom, if that's the phrase I'm looking for !! Aside from the great My Valentine, Only Our Hearts is another beautiful Paul original. But the one that touches Paulie himself the most is More I Cannot Wish you which makes him
think of his youngest daughter. Give that one a fresh listen with this knowledge and then tell me the album's a turkey. Much love from a wet, windy England.
@@neilbruce4201 right on!
Will do! Thank you. ♥️
Melinda,
I agree with everything you said.
Exactly right. The song has nothing to do with violence. I'm not sure what she was thinking. 🤔 Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Fun stuff, Melinda! Happy Turkey Day! Until next week! 😢
Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving! ♥️🤗
Exactly right. Thank you very much. I appreciate you so much. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🤗♥️

You get it. 🤗 It would be boring if we all felt the same way. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Sammy did some great work and the Sammy era has grown on me. It's just not the same without Dave though. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗 Happy Holidays.
Colored vinyl is all hype anyway..You cannot see the dust/dirt on colored vinyl.
An alternate selection would be the (much cheaper) Miles/Coltrane (March 24 1960, The Final Tour) album on Blue Note.
Thank you for the suggestion. I bet that's wonderful. ♥️ Take care.
The same thing happened to me when buying a colored version of the new Beatles song. It was 6 months before they said that color variant would not be pressed again. I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving in the new place.
It’s a shame when the record company has to do that. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving too. 🤗♥️ Take care.
Yes, some groups had some Turkeys, and we as record collectors had (or have) them too! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🤗♥️ Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Take care.
*******HAPPY THANXGIVING...HAVE A SPLENDID THANXGIVING*******
Happy Thanksgiving! 🤗♥️ Take care.
Happy Thanksgiving Melinda! There's a large bird in my fridge as I type this regardless of how I may feel..😂😂
It's a tradition! ♥️ Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm so sorry. That would be extremely frustrating. 😏 I hope they run the sale again. Take care. 🤗
Unbelievably Melinda I agree with just about everything you said the only thing was Pat benatar, Hit me with your Best shot, well I'm so glad she's never singing it again👍 it's a turkey song to me 😄
Lol. It's a win for you! 😄 Thank you and take care.
Great video my friend have you done your Christmas album collection. Anyway Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I made a video about my favorite Christmas songs several years ago. It was a fun video to make. Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Take care dear friend! ♥️
@MelindaMurphy ok I didn't know I see if I can find it my friend
Happy Thanksgiving Melinda! Will see you next month🦃🦃🦃
Happy Thanksgiving! ♥️🤗
I love The Baby's, just not the album cover. I'm glad they were so well paid. ♥️ Happy Thanksgiving. Take care.
It would be nice to have the $15 record sales again. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving. ♥️🤗
Lady Melinda. I love your channel and the presentation of music. ❤
I'm sorry for the late response. Thank you very much. 🤗♥️ Take care.
Lol. I will agree that this is the most "rocking" album cover Neil ever did. Thank you. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Cya Doug
Me again - just listened to some of your other videos and they are fine. So - you have definitely lost a channel for some reason. Cheers Doug
Yes, I apologize. Something must have happened to my microphone while recording it. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
GOBBLE GOBBLE HAPPY THANK'S GIVING MY AMERICAN FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and also this was an Awesome video.
Thank you very much. ♥️🤗 I had one of the best Thanksgiving days ever. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy You as well. And don't let those records put you off turkey.
Hi Melinda,
I had something similar happen on a UHQR, but after waiting so long and the LP was available I was informed my order was going to be canceled.
I get it. Sammy has great pipes and I learned to love that era of VH too. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Spraking of Ronnie Montrose...best vocalist he performed
DAVY.PATTISON in the band Gamma...DP also sang with ROBIN.TROWER 80S
I have a very weird experience with Amazon getting a multi disc Deutsche Gammophon's Original Source Series LPs... This happen to be sold by Amazon Japan. Website says it will take 4 to 6 weeks which I am ok with. ~ 3 months later, after a couple of assurances that it WILL be delivered early November, Amazon CANCELLED THE ORDER without any warning. Yesterday, the same record is again available in Amazon sold by Amazon Japan, also 4 to 6 weeks delivery... I don't think so.... Sadly, no accountability.
Ugh. So frustrating. I'm sorry that happened. These companies need to do better. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I love Unmasked and The Elder. ♥️ Thank you! ♥️🤗
Wow! I didn't know about that release. That would have been very frustrating. 🤔 These companies drive me crazy. Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Melinda, you made me LOL when you showed that McCartney record and said the title. I had never heard of that. Kisses on the Bottom? Really, Paul? lololol
(Also, I bought that Neil Diamond album based on the cover alone because it was just too hideous to believe; it makes me laugh every time I look at it).
Terrible title by an amazing artist. This isn't his best work but I love Paul. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
You're awesome Melinda!!!
Awww! Thank you. Take care. ♥️🤗
“My Valentine” is beautiful, but the rest of the album was just simply pleasant. Bad title, yes. That’s just Paul being “cheeky!” 😂
Exactly! That's Paul's sense of humor. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Very refreshing to hear that I’m not the only one who makes buying mishaps.Completely agree with you about Pat Benatar!
We all have made mistakes when buying records. Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I just thought I'd mention it since I know you like great sounding music :-)
Happy Thanksgiving Melinda to you and your family!
Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Thanks for sharing. What a frustrating story. At least you were able to get some of that money back. Sometimes we are the winners and sometimes we lose when it comes to sales. 😏
I will have to check out Rhino.
You're probably right. I'm just getting old. Lol. My tolerance is much lower now. 😄 Thank you and take care.
One thing about rebuilding collection is you don’t bother buying any of those Turkey albums. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. For the first time since 2006 I will have Thanksgiving with my whole family. I need to go start cooking now
I hope your Thanksgiving was the best one ever. Moving to be close to our kids was well worth it. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
happy thanks giving hope you are well do you have any wasp albums
I don't have any Wasp albums. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I totally agree with you about Pat Benatar. CRAZY decision on her part.
A total head scratcher. 🤔 Thank you and take care.
I have that Garth bucks album got it at Walmart for 15 bucks couple yrs ago HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!
I'm sorry for the late response. That was a steal. It's a great box set.
I like the album but it took a long time to accept
that Dave was gone.
I'm so glad you were able to get your record after all. ,♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Hell is for Children is definitely not a favorite song for me.
That album cover is so weak for such a cool band.. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
My local Walmart STILL has unsold copies of Adele's 30 album from when it was released. Yes, I own that turkey - LOL!.
It's still everywhere. Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Melinda! Looks like my best friend and I are aiming for RSD at Tonevendor at 6:30 AM Friday. Hope the turkey has worn off by then... 🥱
I hope you had a great time. I hope to join you next time. Thank you and take care.
That Neil Diamond cover photo was taken by the " Tree People".
Following Kisses on the Bottom with a discussion of scat… well done.
Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Great video . Side effect of collecting is getting the odd turkey . Soundtracks are the worst culprits with me , bad pressings . Thanks for your creative videos . Best wishes , 😊😊😊
Yes, I don't buy that many soundtracks for that reason. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
