    Hello, Top Hat Gaming Man! Please scroll down for the stuff that you might find curious.
    Thanks for covering stuff objectively and for not being focused on one particular gaming market (you know which one I mean), which most of your "competitors" do.
    You're doing a great job; I watched a dozen of your videos today and I'm totally enjoying it!
    + I absolutely love your selection of soundtracks (Michelle Chang's theme from T2 and FF soundtracks) and games. Love your taste!
    A content suggestion: in the Hyundai Comboy video you mentioned the Famicom knock-offs. Actually, in the post-Soviet space -- around 90s and up to the early 00s -- the households were flooded with Famicom clones coming from... Taiwan, I guess? Basically the Famicom/NES had never made its way to the CIS market officially, yet it didn't stop it from gaining fame in this region. Yet, people never knew it was a Nintendo product whatsoever -- most of the clones came under the brand name of "Dendy", with a small elephant on the logo I believe. Therefore, the NES/Famicom is STILL referred to as just Dendy in modern Russia. "Dendies" didn't go out of use until the PS2 era! (NB: SNES wasn't even present in CIS, or at least didn't gain popularity; there were some Megadrive knock-offs, referred to as just "Sega", but the Dendy things were the real deal.)
    Interestingly enough, Nintendo was never doing really well in the CIS market (I believe it was around in the CIS since the Gamecube or N64 era? Totally unheard of a single person in Russia owning those though, everyone had PS1 or PS2). In the handheld sector, the GBA (especially GBASP, usually gifted by parents to their children) and NDS were more or less common, BUT the CIS market definitely was the one that had PSP as a dominant handheld. You guessed it -- of course Russians, which always were masters of software piracy, preferred the PSP; but I believe there were other reasons for PSP to prevail. Another fun fact: the extremely easy homebrew installation procedure was even sold as a service in the electronic markets, costing around 15 dollars in the 2010 currency rates. That did make some sense in the PSP 100x (Fat) time, but since the PSP Slim was released, the procedure stopped being tricky -- and yet this kind of service offers did not cease. These lousy bastards were accumulating money from the unaware teenagers, meh... I used to break this vicious circle and raise awareness on the actual procedure among my fellows; I also often homebrewed my friends' (and enemies', lol) PSPs for free or for a bar of chocolate.
    Hope this info catches your eye. If you ever think of making a video on the CIS gaming market of the 90s and 00s, please leave a comment, I'll share my contacts in case you need any more insight.

    The Gakkan EX System looks awesome! When I was a kid, I had similar kits from Radio Shack, but they weren't nearly as high-tech, as the components were permanently mounted and had spring terminals to allow jumper wires to make the circuit.

      @KuraIthys 5 років тому

      When I was young I remember some extremely advanced electronics kits in the Netherlands.
      I don't think they were quite as easy to use as these, but they sure were impressive.
      To give you some idea, one of the highest end kits involved about half a dozen experiments that involved a laser module, including building a functional CD player...
      I have no idea what these kits were called anymore, but they were amazing.

    Mike Matei mentioned on a 'James and Mike Monday' that his mother was a flight attendant and he ended up getting Mario 3 before it was released in the USA. I guess he might also have had a Japanese Famicom to play it on since the cartridges are different. Japan uses the NTSC video format which is what we use in the USA. Japanese power supplies are the same as USA. The electric itself is slightly different but they work fine with USA power.

    Kinda like that electric block toy, I had a similar idea of a toy when I was a kid. Instead of being in blocks, you had various diodes, capacitors, resistors, etc, fitted on a board with spring-pegs. You had a manual and various lengths of colour coded wire with it, and would simply lever the wire ends under the spring to make connections between various components to configure any number of whatever electronic machines there were in the manual. It was clearly less versatile, but I had a great deal of fun with them. Anyone else remember these sets?
