We have a guy in our campaign that had leader that had: autocannon, shield, lascarbine, all with telescopic or infrasights, bodyglove, armored undersuit, heavy carapace, industrial respirator and suspensors. So anythong but a melta wouldn't even scratch him and rest of his gang was slowly aspiring to him. Later he got angry that my butcher managed to finaly get to him and he failed his 2+ save. Real fun games against these guys when opponent is minmax king :-)

I love the close combat options for these guys. Stick the shock stave on a Juve and they are auto wounding on half their successful hits. Real swingy but so fun to see my opponent's face when half my gang charges in. Once all my CC gangers are down my shooty fighters can clean up pretty well too. ;p PS: Hope you feel better soon
I also like the idea of Close Combat Van Saar. The added armor is a good start. Really liking those Power Knives as well. Woooie. Shock stave wielding Subtechs…. Interesting idea. Will have to try that out! Edit: do you run Iron Will to mitigate the losses in CC?

@0:32 That's "Ruud Gullit", but there is a goalie in the Netherlands called "van der Sar", and funny enough, a friend of mine is making a "van der Saar" gang inspired by our orange lions =)
I'm playing as Van Saar in my first campaign with a bunch of friends. After years of false starts we finally have about 8 people committed. I'm 0-2 so far and I lost my 250+ point Champion in the first round of the first game, but I didn't lose his equipment because he died in recovery. So I filled the slot with a bounty hunter, gave him my champion's grav gun and mesh armor, and I don't feel like I've really lost a step. I just keep losing games cause I'm 🚮. I'm glad I opted for a starting force of 7 models, though. They're not all min-maxed, but my gang isn't devastated by an early (unlucky) loss. I made some equipment purchases and upgraded or moved some armor around, so everyone's is better. I'm hoping to turn things around...
Thanks for this, but I'd still run my Delaque against any Van Saar. On reflection though, by the end there I wasn't so anti grav cutter as I was before.
I think a neat narrative campaign to run would be this: Picture an uneasy alliance between Van Saar and a Corpse Grinder Cult. The faustian deal the Van Saar struck with the AI develops into an even darker direction. This unusual AI not only has irradiated the Van Saar but has develop a taste for human flesh. Through a developing narrative the complicit but naive Van Saar will find that the AI is a demon possesed archaetech. A son of Vashtorr with the ability to influence Khorne's subjects. The first game or two will introduce the Van Saar defending their AI from jealous gangs, but then have an occasional Corpse Grinder mission where they bag bodies to influence the Van Saar gang and territories. A game name title would be like "C0rpse Gr1nders_InitIalIze_666.exe" Initially the Leader Van Saar will discover the AI's full identity and won't be okay with the full extent of it's demands. A game may involve an enforcer or noble house coming to quell the Van Saar gang on corruption charges. The final playmap having several medium, and one large industrial fans that act as the mouths of the AI. The mechanical gantries the gangers stand on would acting as the physical body of the AI. Original models could be made of defensive/offensive based units like large industrial tentacles that act with the "infiltrate" perk. In addition the Van Saar will find wandering remnants of an older Van Saar gang in the form of hyper irradiated zombies with extreme cancer growths (think Pox Walker models) that are found staggering around cannibal and hostile. A by product of existing to deep in the construct next to the AI. Occasional roles for the player's own models will be made against their toughness or they may become a zombie. The final mission may have dedensive Dark mechanicum models that have awoken from the Van Saars deeper trek. The final scenario titled "Cntrl+Alt+Del" will have thr Van Saar leader reach the AI to shut it down.

You can't hot shot a Las sub carbine on lasgins and laspistols but if you put a focusing crystal and use gadgeteer with a Las sub carbine you get - 2 ap at unstable and rapid fire 2 but you lose plentiful on a pistol.
