This was described to me as a representation of the conquistadors who went to the new world and pillaged the land and stole from the people. The water spirit is a protector and lured the greedy men to their deaths and allowed the horses to survive. She confused the man's deafness as innocence and was enamored by it. Her own innocence was taken advantage of and she was reborn less naïve. You can see after her rebirth, she was still the protector, but her dance and calling was much more painful and drawn out. Maybe symbolism for how natives offered so much to the new comers and their kindness was betrayed.
@Darkstar Just spit balling here. Maybe the heart and the blood could represent the process a person goes through after they have been taken advantage of. It is quite like a rebirth. You now have a different understanding of the world and people. A person becomes something new. Maybe not as delightful, but knows the world sometimes isn't always as it appears. The destruction of the things within a person that needs to happen so they can move on and become more adapted to the world isn't a pretty process. No right answer here. Just theorizing.
@Darkstar The Siren isn't dead or alive she just exists, she was knocked unconscious stripped of her sacred talismans, she is no longer whole. The healing properties of the heart shaped part of her center of existence restored her. Too bad the soldier unknowing consumed the water at the same time
@Darkstar That is her center of her existence (heart shaped Lake) it heals her when she needs it. She was stripped of her talisman's which means she's no longer whole. She will always exist until out sun fades to nothing. That is her nature
@@FlatMarssSociety it's supposed to be a toxic relationship according to one guy on another video who says the creators mentioned it. I've done no actual research on it, do with that what you will.
Sirens were traditionally beautiful creatures that would lure sailors with beautiful songs and cause them to shipwreck on the jagged rocks they’d occupy. This was a really interesting twist with the song being a scream and the luring motion being a ballet. The story was interesting too with it being a highly toxic love affair. I kind of feel sorry for the siren being constantly sought after for her body to find the one person she felt was different from the rest just to end up being defiled and broken. This is my favourite episode of all series. Maybe even an artistic masterpiece in general.
i Think the Siren feel for the knight, cuz he was the only one that had no reaction by her beauty, and that was her mistake because the knight was only inlove with Wealth and greed for gold, and the knight mistake was his Greed.
Yes! I just watched a Corridor Crew video where someone who worked on it said it was all hand animated because they wanted the smoothness that is sometimes lost in mocap.
I think it was smart of Netflix to place this episode last. As awesome as this season was, this episode was on another level. It would have made the others seem less than. Truly Epic!
If Alberto Mielgo doesn't get an Emmy for this episode...Then I will be disappointed! This episode can be interpreted in different ways: As the fact that the dancer did not want to invade her lake in search of treasures and killed drowning travelers, she herself was a treasure inside and not that jewels were attached to her, but she just longed for human love who she thought could become a deaf rtsyar, but he betrayed her (to which is what I'm leaning towards), the dancer symbolized Gaia/Earth and the jewels on her were like minerals or minerals in our understanding, and people defiled the earth with their presence and therefore the lake turned purple/blood...
this was easily the best episode of the season for me, hell im going to go as far as saying best episode of all seasons. I was completely mesmerized the whole episode.
What a great episode and a great reaction! ...BTW, Jibaro (Jíbaro) is pronounced with a soft "J"; like in Jose. Jíbaro is a word used in Puerto Rico to refer to the countryside people who farm the land in a traditional way. I found this story to be a heartbreaking interpretation of the historic and repeated betrayal and violation of the natural world. What a masterpiece!
For me .. best episode by FAR !!! There's alot of theories about the episode .. everyone has its own interpretations. For me .. its about greed .. and love .. and revenge .
To me, its a plot about two toxic lovers. Jibaro cants hear the sirens song that destroys the men. He cant hear the red flags and leaves. She becomes infatuated with him purely because he is the first she cannot manipulate and destroy. She tries to pursue him, something she has never done and he gets hurt by her. Tho he still is intrigued by her and then pursues her. I do believe there is some love beneath the toxicity as seen by the short dance they have and the kiss they share. Tho it still hurts him but she doesn't care. He start hurting her then. He becomes greedy and possessive. Whether the gold on her body symbolizes her riches, her body(as in sex), her purity (not necessarily her virginity) or ego, i don't know. But he gets all he can and in the end leaves her a bare. What happens literally after that is that water heals her and him. She comes back to life and he gets his hearing back and that why he dies. What this symbolizes, i think, is that he finally falls for her but too much damage has been done on both sides. They've used and abused one another. Pursued each other and fell for each other for the wrong reasons. In the end he is manipulated and destroyed by her like all the others. And she is still left with the scars he left her, a lifeless husk of what she once was. Ultimately its a tale of two toxic people pursuing each other, using each other, hurting each other and finally leaving each other broken, scarred and alone. No morale, just a story of two predators falling for each other. and the consequence of that.
I know this Siren gained a lot of sympathy, but I didn't see either the humans or the Siren as worth rooting for. The humans were simply blinded by greed and ambition, as humans do. But the Siren? It was a creature that acted on every whim and desire without cause or consequence. The treasure it covered itself with were from its many victims. It didn't think, it didn't reflect, it just acted because it could. It was both animal-like and child-like, acting on instinct without reason.
She didn't act on whim and desire, she fell for him because she thought he was different since he wasn't affected by her song. She killed the men who went into the forest to destroy and steal.
Was waiting for this, though I'm sad your reactions to season 3 are over now :-). The creator of this episode was inspired by toxic relationships, but the countless theories it inspired speaks for the quality of the art. Definitely the most mesmerizing episode and incredibly intense!
Ok, the story is simple the soldiers were the infamous Conquistadors and Clergy known as the Inquisition obviously after doing raids on the Aztecs and all the other sites established in region. The purpose to find gold by way of the sword, these people were killing machines, we are introduced to a unique member of this invasion force, a deaf soldier. They dismount to begin their religious ritual prayer but encountered a very powerful Siren bathed in gold whose screams triggers and draws everyone toward her with an uncontrollable murderous frenzy to their deaths. All except the deaf soldier, he is shocked and dismayed by what he witnesses, the Siren notices and attempts to draw him; she fails, he finds a horse, mounts it and evades. She doesn't understand and follows him, finds him, ponders with all her nature and collapses to a slumber behind the deaf soldier. He slowly awakens the next morning sits up to find her behind him; she as well awakens and sits up locking eyes with the deaf soldier, a second later she sprints away as he grasps her arm attempting to stop her, she pulls way. Afterwards he notices something in his glove gold, he springs up and pursues her with all his might, then he finds her at the waterfalls. She approaches him with her nature, never has she met anyone who survived her death scream before as well she took clear chances with him. The deaf soldier was focused on the gold embedded in the woman, as well she happened to be a Siren, she most likely is immortal. The soldier was the only one not effected by the Sirens death scream, when he realized her body was embedded with the gold that's all he wanted nothing else. When he reached her at the water fall he was fixated on the gold, I think she was going to attempt to over power him in some other way but he provailed and took all her embedded gold and tossed her body back into the falls. I believe the heart shape part of the water site is her center that sustains her it is clear that the change to red is a healing process directed to her. When the healing properties were released to restore the Siren the soldier drank the water resulting in his hearing turning on. He took the majority of her embedded gold from her body thus she was no longer whole. The soldier standing on the bank shocked that he's hearing for the first time in life is exposed to her death scream and does his version of the death dance to his demise. There is more to this story as well I'll add the additional part in time to break down the whole story for you two.
this episode is about colonization. how imperials, mesmerized by various resources of poor nations destroy each other to own these and it hurts everyone. some times successfully rob these less developed nations of these resources.
With regard to him not feeling the necklaces or her body against his... keep in mind that he smashed that log earlier in the day a pretty high speed, haha.
Despite this being my favorite episode (due to the artistic expression, and the graphic fidelity ,and the beauty of the river siren), too was deeply saddened when he stripped her of her "riches". I was hoping that they would become lovers :[
As a deaf person (with cochlear implants). When I first saw the knight’s ear and realised that he is deaf. My very first reaction is I felt sorry for him…..
The skulls are old soldiers of men who heard about this woman covered in jewels she supposed to be like a siren the lake is her home the marks on the trees are like warnings greed got to the best of those men
This episode it's about Toxic Relationship and how they are destroying themselves. The gold of the siren could be the good parts of a person and the other just destroy it.The lake could be all the relationship that the woman had, and then meet a boy that can be different ''a good partner''', thats why he cant dance to her. And a lot of things more
I think this episode is an allegory to the genocide and looting of the colonizers in the discovery of America, in fact the word "jíbaro" is of Taino origin.
I believe this also has something to do with attraction and how SA survivors feel they feel like their beauty has been stripped from them and I believe the men when they are screaming and looking like their going crazy shows that guilt will literally destroy you it also has something to do with greed
I interpreted it so different. A toxic relationship. That two people used each other for different reasons. She's used to getting every guy , they will ask kill and go crazy for her, this guy was different so she was curious and she fell for him, and then when he got a glimpse of the gold in him, he didn't care and wanted it all. Just like the rest of them. His own own greed killed him and her need for love when she finally let her guard down, she was vulnerable and stripped of everything. They both lost in the end bc of their own toxic behaviors
Love both your reactions. I would love a season breakdown with each episode listed. Now that you're done with the season I can explain my rankings in full. I agree with Madison, some episodes were so close in rankings it's hard to really put one over the others. This is my list based on a point system for Animation, Themes, Pacing, World Building, Nuance, and X-factor for creativity or personal Biases. 9) Kill Team Kill - Decent animation tied for 6th, Thematically Lacking scoring 9th without any deeper meaning aside from Government bad because science. Tied for Last in pacing, caught myself looking at the time at several points. The world building wasn't that interesting aside from CIA animal experimentation which make-up industry does. Nuance requires a message which without doesn't really even address cultural issues like other adult animations. Average x-factor points tied for 5th for it's humor. 8) Night of the Mini Dead - Tied 6th for animation, stop animation nothing new. Thematically also lacking mostly focusing on tropes and homages over plot landing it 8th. Decent pacing tied for 5th. Tied for 6th in world building considering it wipes itself out. Does better for nuances with subtle political jokes hidden in the animation. Here's where it scores the most in it's X-factor from camera angles and fresh perspective on a Zombie plague. Scoring 2nd for the pure joy and where's waldo search for all the Easter Eggs. Even though it's ranked 8th still enjoyable and the most rewatchable episode. 7)Three Robots: Exit Strategy - Tied for 6th in Animation. Great themes and break down of social issues tied for 3rd. Pacing was a bit dragging tied for 7th. World Building is thought out ranking 5th. However, It's nuance was nonexistent ranking 6th since it's clearly targeting children and lacking any adult nuances to deliver a dramatic but understandable take on political issues. Nothing really exciting in the X-factor tied for Last in this field. 6)Mason's Rat's - Slightly better animation with the gore of the blood in a Pixar universe ranking it 5th. It had a solid theme of community, cultural struggles, and social/political issues of rights to exist in a certain land (Israel and Palestine, Ukraine and Russia.) with a hopeful and optimistic finale of appreciating the product of the Rat's brewing or cultural appreciation tied for 4th. Same with pacing, not too rushed and hitting all the key points coming in 4th. Ranking 5th in world building only because there's more complex and inspired possibilities among the other episodes. The nuance hits both children and adults of complex political issues in a PG13 way tied for 4th. Nothing too special to grant it any additional X-factor points. 5) Swarm - The animation Improves yet again to Final Fantasy levels tied for 3rd. Similar to Mason's Rats, the thematic topics of cultural appropriation, gentrification, Human hubris and interesting take on the importance for intelligence in times of conflict and obedience in times of peace really makes the ebb and flow of authoritarian ideology. Subtly addresses the survival and oppression of individuality in society and it's demand Ranking 3rd for it's open to interpretation situations without really addressing any specific justification or solutions to said issues. Basically shinning a light on addressing systems of power that persist by oppression and limiting knowledge. Pacing had some minor issues in time frame and jarring transitions from the trade deal to exposure to the hormones to the creation of the Swarm's self defense intelligence tied at 4th. Alot of open strings for world building but lacked any type of cultures or even age of humanity to be able to really immerse into the settings. The swarm itself was basic ant /hive mind set up that doesn't branch into any creativity that the Swarm would adopt from it's assimilated races. Typical of fascism yet part of why authoritarian regimes fail coming in 6th in world building outside of Swarm. Tied for 4th in nuance for it's use of creativity story telling but typical so no additional x-factor points. 4) Jibaro - By far the best animation yet ranking 1st with realistic yet abnormal expressions that doesn't tread into the uncanny valley. Unsettling use of realism and not that it adds to the tonality of the episode. Thematically deep on colonizing, feminism and piety. Works on multiple levels yet doesn't address solutions just bridges the similarity between colonization and pillage of sacred lands to men's claim and abuse of women natural gifts. The level of piety comes from blessing/curse of God protects yet human vices and hubris can undermine that blessing and lead to demise. Again, cautionary without a solution and contradictory with the events unfolding in a curious yet tragic love story gone wrong ending up tied for 4th. Solid pacing but had some issues of location and time passing again coming in 4th. World building is tied for 1st from the religious meeting in the woods and holy army, to the sirens unique effects and location to even the implications of countries, cultures and supernatural forces. Nuance is again tied for 1st required depth of thought and connection which is profound yet ubiquitous. Aside from the animation and theme nothing else really stood out as an X-factor that didn't already earn points or have it own field to score. 3) The very pulse of the Machine - My least favorite animation style ranking 9th, no a fan of it. Thematically makes up for it from the question of perceived reality, can someone who knows the truth see past their own delusions to what does it mean to be sentient or conscious and even does conformity in the form of assimilation through a hive mind allow for individuality or does the self no longer exist and just another tool for the hive collective superconscious? Is humanity the same with NPC humans and sentient humans conflicting for existence. It even addresses the concept of life and consciousness existing apart from one an other and what we typically wouldn't consider alive doesn't make it any less aware or sentient makes this episode tied for 1st in theme. Pacing was interesting and solid, tied for 4th. World building is also interesting on who and what else was absorbed by IO, the state of humanity and even our type of advancement all the way to who or what else is conscious including Earth or the sun. Might have given it a bit of extra points in this department Tied for 1st, however, would shift down one spot in this case. Again tied for 1st in nuance just like Jibaro for it's deeper questioning and suggestions without being a cautionary tale and offer a hint of hope unlike jibaro and Swarm. No x-factor points awarded. 2) In vaulted Halls entombed - Coming in second for animation nearly taking 1st if not for the "spiders" lack of creativity realism. Had they used the same level of realism from the beginning on every aspect to the spiders and statues, easily would have come in 1st. Thematically coming in 4th for duty bound ethics vs result bound (mills v kant) to self sacrifice. Not as deep as I would like it to be, tbh. Pacing was tied for 1st flowing from one point to the next nearly wiping it's run time never once looking at the time and wanted more once it was done. World building also tied for 1st from the creature and Old ones motif, to the aliens that bound it to the origins and possible world knowledge of this creature or others like it. Since the theme wasn't that deep neither was the nuance only during the last scene with Harper and her actions. This scored the most bias points as X-factor for the twist of the old ones seemly out of left field and remodeling of Ctuthulu and even it's origins/submission. This is a personal bias of mine. This level of cosmic horror and mystery wins me over every time. 1) Bad Traveling - Tied for 4th in animatin, this episode had it all. It's view of intelligence and wisdom, might is right issues, and even merging the duty bound and result bound ethics all the while keeping you unsure if the Main character is even trust worthy to begin with is the best way to turn a trope of unlikable villain into honorable hero, that no one might even honor or thank. Addressing who we are when no one is looking or even acknowledge doesn't change who we are and it's a powerful message at that tying it for 1st in theme. The pacing was a bit jarring but almost every scene was necessary for the plot tying it for 1st. The world building tied for 1st by changing the natural animal life from the sharks to the crabs creating a whole new dynamic of society and possible landscape. The nuance of the theme express themselves in actions more than words with slight actions that took the view by surprised. Ultimately earn a few x-factor creativity points for tricking the crew and clever use of wit in the episode that landed this my number 1. thanks for reading and indulging me this far/long lol Hope to see your own list and reasonings.
Everybody talking about the fact that she is a type of siren, which is true :) but nobody seems to realise that our main hero was actually deaf, which makes a twist in the story.

No it's not, it's based on Greek mythology and colonizers didn't get killed from greed, they took what they wanted without repercussions
Yeah kinda far fetched, also the armor is more late medieval, not nearly the time period the spanish & co. civilized in big fashion.
@@SkankHunt_42 Lots of cultures have this type of story, not just Greek.

Season 3 is LIT 💥 my fave episode for sure. Thanks guys

Absolutely no mocap in this, actors where filmed for animation reference.

This is more less the plot of Jibaro
She do this to punish them. For who those who don't know she do this because they are selfish and they just love money and gold
I think this is more of a take on toxic relationships and love.
Also there is another season Mac react I’ve seen all of it but I need someone to break it down so just telling y’all
WoooW
Awesome
cant wait for u guys to react to stranger things vol 2
Greed
Everybody talking about the fact that she is a type of siren, which is true :) but nobody seems to realise that our main hero was actually deaf, which makes a twist in the story.
Literally everyone realized that, do you think people are THAT stupid?? Lmaoooo
