So they all thought that they were the remaining lone traitor who got lucky and went along with being upstanding because they thought everyone else would be against them.
@@oussamamahta6145 No, you didn't get it. Nobody knew what the other picked aside from the two brothers, which is why he chose to kill those two first, so they wouldn't ruin his plan.
I loved the protagonist Torrin, he is the kind of hero I like the most. He's clever, decisive, ruthless but he is ultimately a good man at heart. I was so happy he lived in the end because I felt he deserved to live.
I do think it stands out that he probably lives because he was the only one who was not willing to sacrifice innocent people to save his own life, like the rest of the crew while his actions were bit selfish (he never offers himself and allows the others to be offered instead) it seems the reason was to ensure that the creature would never get off the ship and threaten others.
@@mckenzie.latham91 Theres a genuine reason to that though, if he sacrificed himself they would have sacrificed phaiden island and killed countless innocents, it genuinely wasnt even him being selfish he says this to the thanapod in the first scene they talk, "I am the only one who can keep this ship on a straight heel" or something like that, he was genuinely the best choice to live
Torrin is much more of a protagonist who acts human rather than a completely moral and good character who absolutely refuses to do any evil. He's good hearted, but he's willing to be ruthless and violent if the moment calls for it. Those are the best types of characters imo.
This is one of the best shorts I've ever seen in my entire life, I cannot praise this enough. The story was everything of course, but the execution *mwah*, the atmosphere, the tone, the score, the dialogue, the voice acting, wow. Maybe I loved it so much because Im a huge, huge fan of horror and the atmosphere was perfection. This is EXACTLY the type of horror I love; an isolated location making the characters feel trapped, an antagonist that might attack at any moment, pervasive sense of death. The style, dark, oppressive, a constant sense of fear and worry over what's going to happen. The 'thanapod' holy sh*t, what an antagonist. This whole story was so simple, yet you can dissect it endlessly. Every single second of this short was focused on the theme of "Those who betray will, in the end, die" (as I understand it). If tone, atmosphere, lighting were a drug, that mean's ill probably need to get a dose of this once every two months or so
I really liked the realistic visuals with cartoon like character designs. Overall this short captivated me the entire time and I wish they made a movie like this or something.
The atmosphere in this episode is phenomenal. It continues to haunt me. It's so dark and I loved every second of it. It's directed by David Fincher so makes sense why it's mind blowing!
I love how it’s one of those stories that doesn’t feel the need to over explain what’s happening. Like some shows/movies would go out of their way to try and explain the crab and why it can tak and where it came from blah blah. It’s better to leave that alone as it doesn’t really matter to the story and focus entirely on what you talked about. Excellent short story. Everything about it was perfect.
The draw in the beginning was actually to choose the one to go down the basement, cuz if it were to choose the captain, people wouldn’t be like “thanks God” when they didn’t pick the long draw. The big man used his physique to force the MC to take his place, that’s why he got killed first
I guess one could question what he would've done if all or at least some of them voted O. But since they all voted to sacrifice an island, I can't really say Torrin was in the wrong here, let alone evil.
No Evil Just business He cut the liabilities and managed to kill the main threat Machievillian yes Evil no Just pragmatic Deserves to be in military or in navy at best
It’s not technically evil, but sort of a grey area Torrin's actions were at times cruel and etc but it was more for practical and for the good of all reasons. Torrin made the deal in the first place because he knew it was the best way to save the ship and at least allow some of the crew to survive but he always intended to betray the creature and strand it on an uninhabited island rather than a populated one so no innocent lives would be lost It was the crew who decided to instead take a shorter route to the habited islands rather then sacrifice themselves on a longer route and Torrin would not let that stand, he never intended to unleash the creatures on unsuspecting or innocent people, and when he found out the crew was willing to do so he turned on them he then found a way to take down the beast and the offspring anyway I can’t call it evil since the entire goal was to protect others, i can say maybe cruel, but then again the crew was going to allow the beast to massacre an entire island to save themselves and so stopping them and the beast seems kind of on the side of justice in that context.
I like How Torrin despite appearing cruel, was the most conscience of the crew, he made the deal knowing it was the best way for them to survive, but he always intended to double cross the beast and strand it on a uninhabited island so as not to unleash it on other people whereas the crew willingly were prepared to sacrifice innocent lives on those islands for their own life by choosing the shortest way to populated islands so as not to feed the creature themselves. Torrin in the end makes them all pay for that decision and then he finds a way to turn on the beast anyway.
I love me a character who is ruthless for a REASON. Someone who doesn’t just chuck people into a meat grinder without second thought simply for sick kicks, but who chucks people into a meat grinder without second thought because, if something isn’t done IMMEDIATELY, then EVERYONE dies. Not to mention, I greatly appreciate that he never once lost sight of the primary goal of destroying the crab, and made sure all the people he’d sacrificed weren’t sacrificed in vain.
A detail I love in this episode was that, at 7:24, the boy sitting on the railing was fully expecting to be shot, and yet he wasn't and was surprised it was the brothers who were shot instead. This was basically a hint that it may not just be 2 people who voted to go to Phaiden Island.
I think the cool part is is that Thorin probably had a soft spot for the kid. He would have probably left him alive if he really tried to do the right thing, but he didn’t
It might be different for different members but some of them don't seem like they'd go out of their way to betray if they had some hope. Shame cert had to go, but he did join the mutiny.

Luckily the rest of the crew made it easier for him by marking X. ironically they would have made themselves indispensable if they marked O
It's funny cause only the cowards were left alive after the first attack. Every brave and potentially moral person died attacking the creature except for Torrin who was saved by another person. (Probably because he was their navigator and he needed to live)
I am loving the format of this show. The art style is always different, the story themes are always changing. You never know what to expect, but there's quality packed into every single one.
2:29 - no it wasn't to pick the leader, the dude just knew he was the biggest and the strongest so he could impose his will. We know this because drawing the "short straw" is always the marker of someone losing. It's always bad. And when you see everyone else draw long straws they're relieved.
I knew this was Troy Baker as Torrin, when he shoots the brothers and makes the speech after, he has a little bit of the Pagan Minn voice he used from Far Cry 4.
The art direction especially how the faces were rendered reminds me of Dishonored. No one story in particular but this reminds me of a mishmash of similar creepypastas. I won't be against further stories with Torrin.
