My daughter and I call it "sugar hunting" when we visit new bakeries... and it's similar online, except the darn shipping isn't the same as walking in somewhere for a single cookie or cupcake. :) If you haven't yet, do this with cupcakes that are also available in the USA for us! I absolutely hate edible arrangements. The idea is great but it’s overpriced and the food is just mediocre at best. My husband knows to never get it for me again. They have been disappointing!
I agree. Totally prefer a snack bouquet with packaged stuff. Cookies, candy, crackers. Those are adorable. When my husband's mother passed away, the place he works sent a Harry & David basket. The fruit was so vile when you opened it, it smelled like alcohol. If it had been once, maybe it woukd be ok. We got one another time from someone else, and it too was just appalling. I wouldn't order a Harry & David shipment if it was free, and I was starving, lol
I spent over $100 on the Blume and got 5 different powder types. I tried about 2 tbsp of each and I sooo wanted to love them but unfortunately they just weren’t for me. BUT their customer service was AMAZING and literally gave me 100% refund and let me keep the product. So I took them to work hoping someone else will like them. The only one I did enjoy, was their matcha.
Amazing to hear that about their customer service! I personally love Blume drinks, but I started with their turmeric and beetroot lattes, and worked my way up to their more ‘inventive’ flavours, so it was less jarring to have an earthy PSL or birthday cake. But also.. the birthday cake definitely has a fruit punch flavour too it that took me a minute to get past.
In the UK we have just had major powercuts. The electric line in my house exploded last night. Its cold, we have no hot water, limited power and all the food has spoiled. I've just picked up mcdonalds and sat down on my floor feeling defeated. This is exactly what I needed! This video has cheered me up ❤ im going to binge all your old videos now too 😊
@CuriosityRocks thank you. Thankfully the UK is much better than other countries such as the US in terms of the severity of storms. I'm grateful for that. Living in the country side in old houses though can be tough! The tinest bit of rain and poof everythings down. £50 of raw meat all gone! No phone signal, no wifi no electricity.
i’m surprised you didn’t cancel your sweet lollapalooza order! they took your money, didn’t ship your order, kept your money, then demanded more money to ship your order rather than offering a refund or to ship them asap. sooooo sketchy. and they seemed like they were going to be WAY bigger based on their product description, product photos, ads, and packaging.
I think the gummies are kohakutou which are japanese jellies made of agar agar. They are easy to make but take sometime. It might be interesting to see you try to make them
They are, but it’s kind of a bastardized version. Traditional kohakutou often has a more delicate appearance, like frosted glass, and the texture is sublime, with a thin crunchy layer and a delicate, softer inside that isn’t chewy, but is like jelly with a lot less give. I’ve been trying to make it myself, but you need certain conditions to get it to cure right.
Those prices are crazy! On special occasions I order postal brownies and a box of 6 in lovely packaging cost less than £20. There's also a huge selection of local home bakers who advertise on our local community pages making various cakes, treats and desserts for cheaper than thst.
From what I was told (different country, though), sellers use ordinary sized boxes for even tiny products, because a) they don't want them to get lost; b) they don't want them to get damaged - like it's much easier to accidentally step on a flat tiny box than a regular one. (But the chocolates could have been sent in a simple padded envelope anyway...)
These cookies are huge! This is a dessert for 3 or 4 people. You can cut everyone a slice and it’s not so expensive anymore. If I could I would order them. 😋
The silky gem candies would be SO good if they could just give them some dang flavor. They just taste like rock candy, but the texture makes them so fun to eat. Would love to try a sour version too. But they are pretty good after a spicier meal like thai or indian food.
Sooo appreciate your honesty about all the products and the experience with the companies. As a Saskatchewan resident, I share your frustration about shipping to Canada 😵💫
I just love to see you bake and rate bakeries! I think it would be fun to see you bake cakes from different countries and rate them! For example in Denmark we have brunsviger, hindbærsnitter and drømmekage! All cakes that most danes love! I'm sure other countries have special cakes as well!
For one edible arrangement in cali i paid over $120., and it was for mothers day.... 3 people, but it was so expensive that we could only get one, and literally everyone got a maximum of 4 pieces of fruit from the arrangement. I could have made the entire thing for all three people for less than a fraction of that. A fruit flower isn't always needed. Crafts, even edible ones, can be fun.
I think the kohakutou (the gem gummies) are so pretty and you can def make them for cheaper. The reason they are expensive is probably cuz you have to wait for them to harden, they cut it by hand, the flavours are interesting and they are not common. People usually up the price for something like that, tho I wonder how much they cost in Japan.
Loved the emotional roller coaster! ❤❤We NEED a series of you making 5-star versions of classic childhood snack cakes and cookies... I mean, gourmet Nanaimo bars and Joe Louis!?? YES PLEASE 😋🍪🍰🍮
I’ve never ordered any desserts from FB…..just don’t trust FB. I usually rely on recommendations from friends, family….or wait for you Laurie to do the work for me…🤭🤭 Everything you ordered was exhortatively expensive in price of product and shipping. That’s pretty much why I wouldn’t bother. The stuffed cookies seemed the best, but at $8 + a cookie….no way. I’ll stick to shopping local. There are some awesome sweet shops in my area, and online local vendors who make awesome goodies.
In the middle of watching something else, UA-cam interrupts me to say that Laurie and Kevin have a new video posted. Sorry what I'm already watching, gotta go! I know it can be a little difficult to appreciate added time into the cost of custom made products, but some of those were ridiculous for pricing and shipping. Yes, chocolates, specifically you and that nonsense packaging.
Thanks for being here so early (and ditching someone else's video LOL)! Delivery for everything is nuts. For example you can buy flowers at the store for $20 but to get them delivered is $75. SO it's good to keep that kind of thing in mind with some of these.
I love Blume lattes!! But I CACKLED because I had the same reaction to the birthday cake one! Once I got over the fruit punch flavour I could enjoy it as birthday cake, but I definitely got hit with fruit punch before birthday cake which was.. odd. I LOVE the psl, especially when I add it to (decaf) coffee. I don’t think they’re made to be drank *because* they’re healthy, it’s just a ‘if you’re going to have an afternoon drink, it’s easier on the body to have spices and ashwaganda than caffeine’ I’ve also found that I enjoy them way more when my palette isn’t calibrated to refined sugar. Like, of course it’s going to taste earthy after eating stuffed cookies, the point of it is that it’s a low sugar/sugar free latte! That you can get the flavour without the sugar based syrups. I’d suggest giving them another shot without a) trying them right after eating something super sweet and b) without expecting it to taste like a cake, to frame it as natural blends with inspiration from the flavours. I think I like them more because I was introduced to them with their turmeric and beetroot lattes, and then tried out the salted caramel and birthday cake evolutions. I can see how it would be jarring starting with the ‘birthday cake’. (After all that- off to the kitchen to make myself a birthday cake latte 😂)
I would LOVE to see you make the sugar crystals at home the recipe is all over! I also would enjoy seeing you make stuffed cookies maybe even into a cookie cake or pull apart cake
For the last one i seriously thought there was nothing there and it was juat a piece of cardboard😂 But seriously what was the purpose of the large box😂
I absolutely love your videos!!! I don't bake or even eat that much baking but your videos are so fun, entertaining and enjoyable to watch. You two have the best energy!
The agar agar jellies are so easy to make. I can't even imagine spending that for pennies of ingredients and 4 days of drying to make the outside crispy
Blume is sell locally in my coffee shop store section. Iuse a few of their product (chaï and matcha powder) and they are good and legit. I use the powder for cooking like making a chaï whipped cream. Alternative to coffee (like maca, chicory or chaga) are nothing like coffee... that probably why you did like them you did not know. Fun video.
As a former small bakery owner I can confidently say these prices are baffling to me. I charged way more for my cakes than I ever would have paid for myself (actually why I started, so I could give my kids awesome custom cakes). And. When you charge this much, you have got to deliver on all fronts. Flavor, appearance, presentation, and customer service. Facebook promoting this insanity is just sad.
I've ordered from Silky Gem twice. Love them! The exchange rate and shipping do make a big difference though, so I've only done it as a treat. I'll do it again the the new year sometime.
I worked at Edible arrangements for my first job in high school. I honestly recommend it to get familiar in the working field and customer service. It’s a hands on and kinda fun job that lets u be a lil creative too.
the "gems" are called kohakutou and EASILY made... the thing thats upping the price SO MUCH is a mix of perhaps a tad more "exotic" flavorings and honest to god food gentrification
Want more vids wen u bake a cake..its really fun to watch n love it. I love watching ur videos cos they are fun nd a mood changer. Thank u laurie for being my therapist.
What the EFF are you doing!? Why didn’t you immediately call the bank and block that sketchy site that didn’t give you the box and knew your name? How dumb? That sounded 100% like an obvious scam and you still gave em more money? Like wtf?
Ahhh silky gem! I’ve been curious to try for years, but never have because of the price and have always wondered if it’s worth it. Their store front actually isn’t that crazy far away from me, so I’ve considered going straight to them to try without shipping 🤣
Make it at home!! All you need is this vegan gelatin powder and sugar basically..for flavor some flavored syrup and it works pretty well. Worst case scenario I got hard candies instead of slightly gelled ones haha. Just cook it and put them in molds..WAY cheaper!!
I love your shirt as a genZ … very nostalgic… I wouldn’t call gem stone crystals as gummies because they could easily be confused as something else. Love your channel! Excited for your next realistic cake video… those are my favorite ❤️
I feel like i would never order any of these things for myself, but the only reason I'd ever order that kind of thing would be to send it as a gift to someone who lived far away from me. In which case, it could make sense for them to market it to me even if they didn't necessarily deliver in my area.
As someone who has been to Edmonton- I can confirm Sweet Lollapalooza is a real place. As for how they won so many awards in the same years- there are multiple categories and you can win more than once in one category!
Omg, I love you. I just came across your channel and have been lying in bed loving every second of your personality. Love cameraman Hubby as well. Hitting the subscribe button cause I am not gonna miss out on anything. This may be the 3 videos I have seen this morning, but I am already intrigued after video 1. Maca root saved my life lol. I was suffering from really bad PMDD and it helped pull me out of it. It can have.. um.. other effects as well lol. The “get yah in the mood part”is very accurate.
The crystal candies are super popular on TikTok right now! People are using them to make ASMR videos because of the texture, so that's probably why they cost so much.
Having not one, but 3 coeliac peeps at my house, we rarely can find things gluten-free, let alone things that deliver. But oh, during lockdown and discovering a place that made and delivered gluten-free doughnuts for Mother's Day - life-changing. However, the best thing we get delivered is potato chips (also discovered during lockdown). Grown in the South Island, and shipped to us in the North Island in NZ - delightful! I might just make an order right now...
I didn't ultimately buy it, but I was tempted to buy some mochi ice creams from a shop in New York (I'm in Denver) because it looked so tasty in the Facebook ad. What finally put me off was the $60 minimum purchase with $30 shipping. I just didn't think it was smart to pay $90 for an ice cream treat that I wasn't even sure I would like.
I'm sure I've seen those last chocolates in supermarkets, and got some on reduced. But those cookies.... Definitely look like a birthday treat! I got a similar cookie cake slice from a place in the UK that took me 3 days to eat (currency wise, probably the same as those) so I feel like as a special occasion, probably worth it. I want to try that oreo one!
Those sugar crystal things are usually a small treat you would have in like a tea ceremony. It’s so funny to see how popular it became to just eat them by themselves or for ASMR lol
The cheek , the nerve ,the gall , the audacity and the gumption of the chocolate people to be like 'oh sorry if you didn't get your stuff , please give us 10 more dollars so we can get them to you' and then you end up getting less chocolate than you would if you had used those 50 bucks to buy Ferrero Rocher
I also bought those silky gem edible crystals and I hated every flavor I got. It was definitely a disappointment and I would never pay that much for that product again which is a shame because they looked so good and I had been seeing them everywhere so I was super excited. Bummer :(
_HolyMolyDonutShop!_ It literally looks like “the baker” had _their_ *kids* decorate those cupcakes! 😳 And the last one looks _exactly_ like those chocolates you order from a catalog from a kid’s fundraiser. Y’all know *_that_* catalog-it’s usually chocolates, wrapping paper and flavored popcorns that have pictures blown up-but when you _finally_ actually receive the order, that your niece begged you to buy, it’s a tin the size of that box…along with a wrapping paper roll that’s _only,_ a foot, _maybe_ 2 feet wide! 🙄🙃😆

i’m surprised you didn’t cancel your sweet lollapalooza order! they took your money, didn’t ship your order, kept your money, then demanded more money to ship your order rather than offering a refund or to ship them asap. sooooo sketchy. and they seemed like they were going to be WAY bigger based on their product description, product photos, ads, and packaging.
I would love this to become a series with different sites like Instagram, Etsy, Pinterest, etc. I loved this episode!
I'm just appalled at the prices! Ridiculous!Enjoyed watching, though. 😊
Me too!
I'm glad to see a real review of the blume, there are so many sponsored ads in videos and it just seems weird that everyone likes it.
Agreed! The channel Jun's Kitchen recently did a video making them, they seem really fun.
You can actually make the crystals at home. They are called Kohakutou.
Oops, I just made this same comment before seeing yours! 😅
I think the chocolates could have been branded chocolates remelted and shaped and decorated by the ppl who sold them for $56 dollars 😅
I’d love to see Laurie take on own spin of the baked goods ❤
Especially those stuffed cookies! 😍🤤
Can you make a whole video where it's just Kevin speaking your thoughts? So funny!
THIS!!! Then find out how accurate he was by comparing what he thinks your numbers are for the products to what they actually are.
@@TheIcingArtist It's bonkers stuff for sure!
I don’t think they’re made to be drank *because* they’re healthy, it’s just a ‘if you’re going to have an afternoon drink, it’s easier on the body to have spices and ashwaganda than caffeine’
I’ve also found that I enjoy them way more when my palette isn’t calibrated to refined sugar.
My guess is the chocolates that were not listed on the leaflet are seasonal. Like vampire mouth one seems a bit halloweeny
AINT NO WAY THOSE CHOCOLATES- that's. That's a whole entire scam!!!?? Huh???
I love your videos so much! With how expensive everything is I usually just take inspo from certain ads and make things myself on a budget lol
Yes! I needed your positivity today!💜
Will you be recreating those cookies as well? They look absolutely delicious
Ok now we need a recipe for stuffed cookies mmm they looked good!
For the last one i seriously thought there was nothing there and it was juat a piece of cardboard😂
But seriously what was the purpose of the large box😂
They're going to kill their business with those kids of shipping prices and packaging!! It crazy!
@@TheIcingArtist seriously that could happen
By the way loved the video🙂👍
I absolutely love your videos!!! I don't bake or even eat that much baking but your videos are so fun, entertaining and enjoyable to watch. You two have the best energy!
been off sugar & processed foods for 43 days ..and the way im going thru apples and bananas watching this with tears in my eyes
Bro same I’m on a sugar detox and am just eating oranges and resisting the urge to go buy desserts
The agar agar jellies are so easy to make. I can't even imagine spending that for pennies of ingredients and 4 days of drying to make the outside crispy
If you ever go to denmark EU ,you need to visit southern Jylland in the summer .As we have something called coffee table it is 20+ difrend cakes
I love the running gag that they don't ship to your location!
Fun video.
Seconding your thoughts about Blume! They’re good but they’re certainly not sweet and definitely not Starbucks
I love your raw opinions and commentary! More of this! Your content is fantastic and I so appreciate what you both do!
The mm cake ad seems misleading. I thought mm's would spill out of the middle.
I have literally given up on Facebook. I even canceled my account probably over a year ago now and I don’t miss it at all.
I worked at Edible arrangements for my first job in high school. I honestly recommend it to get familiar in the working field and customer service. It’s a hands on and kinda fun job that lets u be a lil creative too.
I don't think I'd order a ready made bake online, seems expensive and arrives a mess 😅 I'll stick to baking them myself! 😉
the "gems" are called kohakutou and EASILY made... the thing thats upping the price SO MUCH is a mix of perhaps a tad more "exotic" flavorings and honest to god food gentrification
Want more vids wen u bake a cake..its really fun to watch n love it.
I love watching ur videos cos they are fun nd a mood changer.
Thank u laurie for being my therapist.
You should try Li-Lac Chocolates. Sort of what you hoped for in this video but it seems like a good company
omg the prices! your sacrifice is so appreciated tho because I'm always curious about such things!
What the EFF are you doing!? Why didn’t you immediately call the bank and block that sketchy site that didn’t give you the box and knew your name? How dumb? That sounded 100% like an obvious scam and you still gave em more money? Like wtf?
Guess that's what happens when you got money to spare
Or throw
12:52 that was exactly what i was worried about hearing "white chocolate mint" for a gummy. Some of those white chocolate flavorings truly suck
As someone who has been to Edmonton- I can confirm Sweet Lollapalooza is a real place. As for how they won so many awards in the same years- there are multiple categories and you can win more than once in one category!
That box of chocolates was comical! The price was outrageous, I just kept thinking about the box of Purdys chocolates you could get for $56
was waiting for you to do something like this!! love you laurie :3
I've been wanting to do something like this!! Everytime I see an ad on social media, I always wonder what the product is really like!
are you planning on doing this again? this is such a fun video !! @@TheIcingArtist
Keep up the amazing work with everything you're doing. 💜
Those cookies look good
Maca root saved my life lol. I was suffering from really bad PMDD and it helped pull me out of it. It can have.. um.. other effects as well lol. The “get yah in the mood part”is very accurate.
The cookies look amazing i for sure would be warming them big boys up! Wow!
The blume - it's the Maca making it taste/ smell earthy.
Those cystral candies are super cool! Shame they didn’t taste great would you consider making some?
😂😂😂 If your mouth doesnt say it your face will. Love watching you two 😂😂😂
Some of those look super good but some of the prices…
The prices are crazy!! I couldn't believe how expensive some of this stuff was!
Love your husbands comments 😂
I kept thinking omg Kevin don’t let Laurie eat that. Some of those foods didn’t look safe. Lol😂
My waistline is super stoked my feed doesn’t match hers!🤣 Mine is mostly dogs, cats, wildlife and farming.
Bummer :(
I literally get sucked into ads, fill my cart, then see shipping and delete the whole thing. Shipping is ridiculous.
Oh are they called "Bom Boms" in Canada? That's cool, I never knew that.
Hi from Scotland. Love your channel. Would you consider doing one of your ones from various bakeries but being free-from? I have a dairy allergy, but love baking.
You should try making the crystal gummy candy.
It would also be cool to make a dessert using something from all the items at the end!
Facebook ads are crazy targeted! So fun!
A few seconds in and I lost it seeing Mark peeking in from the window 😂😂
