I lived there from 85 to 89. I was assigned to the 24th CAMS at Howard AFB. I have been all over the World, and Panama is still my favorite, and most missed. The people are kind, the place is amazing! a true treasure. I often wonder how my old friends are doing. I wish the very best for the citizens and can only hope that the Country prospers!

I was stationed there from 1984-1987 - 24 CAMS - and I ran the radio shop. I worked on the communications equipment on the UHIN Helicopter and Cessna O2. I lived on Albrook. Best assignment of my AF career. I was saddened to hear that the base closed and the housing and other areas neglected and run down. Thinking about moving to Panama and retiring there.

This is awesome, I was stationed at Howard AFB from 1975-1980 (24th Supply. Sq.)& from 1985-1990 (24th Comm. Sq.) On my first assignment there I lived in the barracks directly across from the large field facing the BX, between the dinning facility BLDG and the security police barracks. On my next assignment, I lived in the housing area near the base entrance. Those memories are still embedded in my heart as the best of my life. PANAMA rocks! BTW, I have been back three times- 2002, 2009 & 2013. It's a metropolis and I am due to return in 2018 to experience the subway and beach resorts on the pacific coast. Thanks for posting, it's so cool!

Lived at Ft.Amador on the Pacific side and watched the Bridge of the Americas being constructed from the fishing pier as a nine yr. old. I also witnessed the Cuban Missile Crisis, from my bicycle going all the way to the end of the causeway, where missiles were tentatively waiting out on a trackway aimed at the ocean.

JFK blockaded Cuba with Naval Vessels because Nikita Kruschev was shipping missiles to Cuba. Watch the movie '13 Days.' It' was the closest we came to a nuclear war in the Caribbean.

I was stationed at Howard from 1979 to 1985, I lived in the barracks over looking the runway, Got married and moved into the quarters right up the road. I worked in the 24th Headquarters Wing for the DO right next to the Command Post. I sure miss Panama and would go back in minute, Most of my free time was spent under the water diving on the Atlantic side where there was an old Spanish Fort. Other times we would get together take the boat to Taboga and spend all week-end. It was an amazing time.

Thank you! Lived on Howard for 2 1/2-3 years... We moved shortly after my tenth birthday... I am 28 now... It was truly a great experience... The emotions I am feeling right now are so hard to explain, but "military brats" will know what I am talking about when I say we knew how to make friends and adjust... I wish we would have had cell phones to record back then... I remember the bug spray truck that used to go through base at night and walking up what seemed to be a hundred steps to go to school... Mr. Airheart(sp?) with all his animals and bugs... Pin dodge ball Fridays after school... The little school shop that sold things like erasers... Go Howard Hawks!

Nice Video, we lived on Fort Clayton from around 83-87 when I was in grade school, we went to all the officers clubs and pools on different bases, so many fond memories. We had a jungle in our back yard with monkeys, toucans, parrots, iguana's, gecko's climbing the walls that would come inside our quarters, sloths, one guy had a pet caiman in his back yard in a big wooden box, I remember fishing for peacock bass in the Panama canal and staying on islands in the canal you could rent, my dad and I went on the Iowa that went on a cruise through the Panama canal, remember having a big bushmaster snake in the middle of a car port. Remember playing soccer and baseball, remember when the show V came on the one channel and everyone watched it. Remember staying at the Marriot and they had a outdoor pond with tropical fish. So many memories.

Man, I missed this place, so, so much. I was there early 80's, originally stationed at Fort Sherman (3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces but I was attached to 3rd Battalion Airborne Infantry, to train them to be a Jungle Expert (Pana Jungla) and jump qualify both our Airborne Infantry and Panamanian soldiers (Paracaidista).
Man, it really brings back many good memories (good people, community, downtown, the beach and the NCO club on Howard, Air Force Base (AFB). I remember very well, One Way In and One Way Out, "The Freedom Bird" and how about the "Monkey" meat. Don't worry, it is not really a monkey meat, it is just how Panamanian vendor, call it. We think? LoL!
My old (House) station, Fort Kobbe, Panama, by the beach. Maybe, just maybe, my final retirement place to be.

Great memories. My father was active reserves after WWII and in early 50s was called up. First place we lived (three young boys with our parents) was also @ Ft. Kobbe, then off to Lois Rios after his 2-yr. stint. He worked at the Zone's Admin Bldg. not far away as an asst. comptroller and mother taught K-6 in Diablo Heights before we moved back in late 50s to Seattle, then down to Portland. If you or anyone you know has any decent video or pics of Lois Rios, would love to know about them/it. (Found a couple on the web and a handful in my mother's picture files, but would love to see more.) Appreciate it. Have never been back, but would love to while still around this Earth. Thanks!

You guys lived in the same exact court as we did and we were there from 92-96. We lived in that row where that house was with the white add on in the front but we were the House next to it. I remember the house on the end had a mango tree that looks like it’s still there and we had a coconut tree in the backyard. I wonder if I knew you guys. I’m still Facebook friends with just about all of my friends from the base back then lol. Thanks for posting! I got to see my old area and that’s exciting.
