    How Hera understand the game and how he has been inspired by former Viper to be the best. It's not a surprise at all he is new absolute TOP player, he just followed the steps of the snake... The student reaching the teacher.
    By the way, i think the rollercoaster of Viper's performances is just because is impossible anymore to be full focused with a child on the way and other "adult things" in his life, and he knows it. Total respect and all the admiration of the world for being in that vital situation and still being top 3 player no matter what.

      Nobody can be the best forever. We are now entering the age of Hera, which he deserves. And years from now, we will enter the era of someone else. And on it will go until the day the game dies.
      I will always like Viper more, and continue to hope for his victory over Hera. But that comes from two reasons. I'm vibing more with his personality. And I'm a fellow Norwegian, so a sense of pride does influence my opinion there.

      I just hope that Hera is able to adopt a bit more of an interesting or varied playstyle like the other guys, but that probably comes from playing the game for over a decade and trying to keep it "fresh" like Viper and Daut do.

    T90 mentioned multiple times that the idea behind making it hidden for the players are basically confidence issues. Back in the Viper era, players mentally resigned before even playing him knowing that they will lose and therefore not bring their full potential. I guess it worked for HC 1-3 when the scene was smaller, but nowadays there are so many people looking at so much data that you inevitably know your opponent

      @@nightonfir3yeah, I guess it's never just one thing. I'm really happy for ACCM, it's like he always had it in him to be a top top player but somehow it never turned out that way. I hope he can now be consistently in the SF or who knows go all the way in S-tier tournaments.

    Being an expectant dad is difficult. Like, it changes things, and it should… decision making etc … “it’s impossible to explain” , is at least, in part, influenced by this. It’s often why footballers play with so much freedom after the birth of their kids - there is an indescribable feeling of thankfulness, relief and joy. Viper will be back!

    @40:09 - The fact that players know one side of the bracket negates the point of hidden cup in it's existing guise, but i like the idea (think it was Hera's) where the maps are new and all games are played "hidden" which rewards players who can break the meta and rewards preparation. It's not so important that the player identities are hidden any more. I think that could be really cool

    Daut is hilarious, please never change. I loved the part where they analyzed where they could improve, especially on Viper. I'm sure he appreciates the input on his gameplay. And yes, he loves his mastapieces but he should focus on more important things. I was making predictions and I put Sebastian on his gameplay, because of some of the sloppiness in his gameplay, it was definitely lacking.
    I hope all of them improve and be rivals to Hera, even though I love Hera too. Great podcast!

  • @SocksyyAU
    @SocksyyAU 9 місяців тому +3

    I agree with DauT at 34:05 to an extent. If you over prepare an idea you are more likely to get tunnel vision to try and force a certain play or idea in game. This leads to lack of adaptability and can severely harm your chances of winning the game.
    Still need to test an idea beforehand to see if it has reasonable chances to work, but don't go too hard into ironing out every last detail or you'll end up trying to force it.

    to expand on what Mashmorra said about Vipers gameplay: its not greed in general. Viper tryes to take an eco lead by beeing greedy but that doesnt work as well with other people getting better mechanically. DE quality of life features did some heavy lifting here. now all the top players can put aggression without idleing their TC at home which cuts into the the advantage of the defender.
    If you are in the mindset of beeing greedy and you notice that you dont get ahead as much as you should, beeing less greedy is counterintuitive. to be a bit technical: on the scale military investment eco investment there are propably local maxima that are hard to get away from.

    The final set for me was the most disappointing of the entire tournament unfortunately.
    Lierey played aggressive with tight uptimes and amazing archer play. How many archets did he produce in 4 games in the finals? Zeeeeeeroo.
    Like Hera playing without scout. It was a hard watch. Saving best civs for games that would never come. Series was over before it even started... 😢

    I loved how open and critical you guys can be of each other without taking offense.
    I'm not skilled at the game, but I love looking at human behaviour.
    I do agree Daut has so many off the wall strategies that there's no solid foundation/plan.
    Hera is just solid, consistent and will wear the opponent down, like fighting a robot. Waiting for the mistake to be made, a proper grinder.
    Viper seems to be trying to find his new place against new talent, but not found that comfort spot between, off the wall strategies (Duat) and "robot consistency" (Hera). Both strategies are quite exclusive.
    Think it'll end up being a Hera style foundation with Daut flair when you start getting wider gaps in score or you have nothing to lose.

    On light cav being potentially a little OP - why not just make the upgrade a little longer and/or more expensive? It makes it more of an investment without affecting the balance of the scout at all or the hussar too much in the rest of the game? I'm no expert though

      I always (as in, since like 2012 when i came back to the game and wasn't a kid like in 2000) felt the upgrade was way too cheap for what it offered but the thing is, until two? three? or so years ago, nobody even researched it, thinking light cav is bad. It's relatively recent that people started using light cav at all and now they're finding out how incredibly good it is. AoE 2 may be an old game but the meta keeps developing.
      But yeah, some change to lcav would be welcome, either change in upgrade cost or nerf to stats. I'd start with cost change.

      @@Progeusz Yeah I came back in 2012 too and have similar feelings. Partly it seems so worth it to get light cav now because there is almost always monks around, whereas way back in the huns war days not everyone would bother to pick up the relics or use monks for healing

    I agree with what Hera says about him being a meta player. I'm gonna be honest, he used to be boring. I used to think his gameplay was super boring. But over the last year, when I've watched him, that hasn't been the case anymore. He's gotten a lot more creative. I do now see him as the 2024 player, who is more creative and open minded than 2020 Hera.

    In my opinion the only thing that cost Viper the match against Liereyy was that he was refusing to wall anything. In most matches he was ahead of Lierrey but couldn't find a way to punish Lierrey cause Liereyy was walled but Lierrey found ways to punish Viper because he wasn't walled.

    I wish there was a way to keep somehow keep that secret from each other players without introducing lag, ect. and getting some longer sets later in thr finals.
    There was 20k in prize pool donations iirc, so that might be enough to sponsors HC is worth a LAN venue??
    Anyway, congrats on the win Hera!

    “lagspike” theory was what helped confirm Ganji. Basically only him or Salted Pepper had ever said it in the chat logs apparently.

    random seeding issue can be addressed by double elimination bracket with bo5 in upper bracket and bo3 in losers. Then bo7 finals. This would also make the whole tourney more digestible with sets not lasting 3-4 hours but just around 2 hours. I am sure something like this was considered, would be nice to understand why it was discarted

    • @IschmarVI
      @IschmarVI 9 місяців тому

      one possibility, for sure. But it comes at the downside of having the "winners bracket vs. losers bracket dilemma" in the finals, where one player didn't lose a set whereas another one did - and both rewarding and ignoring that feels wrong in different ways.

    • @Lucaash
      @Lucaash 9 місяців тому

      @@IschmarVI that is solved with 2 sets in finals. If loser bracket finalist loses the first set, tourney is over, if not, he needs to beat winners finalist again. This is standard format
