Today was a beautiful day that almost ended in disaster. Actually the spot was too small for Wings but after having dived the mountain with the copter a few times I wanted to do the same with my Ritewing ZCON. I started the wing, flew in loops to altitude, lost orientation and dived on the wrong side of the mountain. I didn't hear, didn't see, didn't have a Crossfire Link anymore etc. and thought the wing hit the mountain. Luckily the autopilot works very reliable and everything went well again. By software noflight area zones was uploaded before, so the wing recognized them and turned off automatically.

I think all the comments asking why your RTH wasn't triggered on failsafe are funny. Never built, nor flown a wing. I'm a quadcopter guy. With the incredible amount of combinations possible during any build, things are bound to go wrong. The fact your wing flies, responds to you, and makes it home.... I think are incredible. Good job handling it. Some things didn't work, you managed anyway. I'd say great piloting.
Dude, one of the best fpv videos ive ever seen. Dramatic and happy ending. Like a movie.
*Hero-Wing* he came home to you with great footage!
must've been the longest 3min's of your life
Oh yes 🙌
That was frickin insane!! The luck to have seen that glimpse of video was unreal, glad you got the plane back safely!
Very nice FPV Flight
I puckered on that one, man! Glad she recovered and stayed airborne. Gotta love talking voices in OpenTx. She says "Return to Home" when I throw the switch.
Yes, I have voice over switches yet 😂
That butt pucker feel makes me love this hobby so much. Thankfully RTH has never let me down
Duuuddeee. You're sooo luckyy...
Creepy as hell
Yeah :D
Dağlar tehlikelidir gardaşşş
It is very important make sure that not exists terrain between you and your aircraft, if it occurs you loose the signal immediately. Also it is very important test the RTH mode and fail safe mode. Learned lessons. :)
Yesssssss! Carry on smartly 💫
I felt anxiety even though I knew if I'm watching it.... It had to have been recovered 🤣
"Can't see it, no com, must have crashed" but you didn't give up. The wait must have been unbearable ! Congratulation, you really diserved your wing back!
Stressful few moments there I suspect! Recently had something very similar happen to me when I was 5km's over the ocean. Thank goodness for GPS' and RTH!
Yeah, but i had luck
NOOOO WAY !!! so scared !! i would be crying sitting on snow jajajajajaj
nice recovery!
Scary flight! That's really lucky you got the signal back. 👍😎
Oh man! What an awesome vid. Glad you were able to get the plane back!
Yes, i nearly shitting in my pants :D
Auf einmal warst du in meinen recommendations :D Geiles Video da hast ja nochmal Glück gehabt xD
Mein Abo haste auf jeden Fall ;D
Haha danke, so hört man sich wieder 😅
Awesome recovery... would’ve sucked to lose it, I lost an RC helicopter with no cameras. By the time I hit throttle hold the helicopter had lost signal and was told by witnesses they saw my heli disappear over the horizon. Haha so probably in Texas by now from Arizona.
Crazy!!! Heftig, dass alles gut ausging😅😅😅
On the edge of my seat for half this damn video!!!! COOL!!!!
oh bro, i know exactly what you feel:
It`s a kind of "near death experience", isn`t it?
Peace, keep flyi`n , happy Christmas ✌
this is very cool. glad you got your wing back
Shit!!! (excuse my language) that was like loosing a family member on the mountain, and when you got signal, I got teary eyed, and almost cried!!!!
Good job thanks
Holly cow! I can imagine the adrenaline rush you had while hoping for a relink. Did you post the footage on its own? Looks like a very scenic flight. I would like to view it on the fpv goggles to live your moment. Thanks.
awesome!
Wow! That was crazy, I would have been seriously glad that I spent $10 on a GPS... Great recovery!
I had an gps on it
Great footage of that mountain!
Epic!
Very exciting to watch. Thanks
Dude, I felt your pain. Lol, that was nutty.
I already shit my pants if I have no signal for 1 second with a drone behind a tree.
Lucky as hell,
You did a great job with editing the video.
The music was perfect!
Never had this problem with ardupilot and pixhawk. :^)
The problem wasn´t Inav. It was Crossfire, because failsafe does not work. Inav worked great,
@@JB-Scooter I have never had a problem with crossfire failsafe but maybe you are using a different method. I set my radio up so that its in RTH with 75% throttle and then set the failsafe. This way the receiver acts just like its getting a signal and puts the flight controller in RTH. I do not have the flight controller look for signal loss. I have about 10 aircraft (multirotor and planes) that use crossfire and have never had an issue with failsafe using this method and I have been using it since its early stages of being released.
Wow what a save atleast you didn't turn it off
Hi, I notice you're using Fusion VRX. I'm curious what FPV camera do you have in the wing? I have some Caddx cameras that have issues working with Fusion and lose lock. So I have to use them in old-school mode.
WOW So much stress !!! make me so much bad souvenir
Incredible!
Epic!!!
wow, love it, but you did 2 key mistakes, RTH and Fail safe are two different things, RTH relay in you link, Fail safe trigger when the link is lost. You need to test fail safe first, RTH is a navigation mode in a switch, like horizon etc. The second mistake is that after you regain control you keep flying without fail safe been corrected, but the flight was epic and the view wow. I'm glad you got it back. You are very lucky.
Thank you. The main problem was that at that time was the change of the new Crossfire firmware. This firmware had problems detecting the failsafe, so it was not triggered... In the dry test on the ground it was triggered, but not in the air...
Glad that turned out well. great flight man
When a properly set-up wing & iNav cruise modes save the day! Close one. What a rush that was I bet. Ive never lost video that long before while "en route to home" or otherwise. lol RTH has def saved my bacon before! Geez I love iNav. Good job
Wow u must have been really calm when lost single
This gave me sweaty hands....
Haha that was awesome! Happy ending.
What Patience you have!!! I would have thrown my goggles down and Bit the Dirt or Snow!!! BRAVO!!!!
Thank you. :)
Haha the footage is amazing btw when u lost signal lol I guess it was hard to find it in the snow
Epic story! :-)
:)
Ainda vou montar uma pra mim se Deus quiser...
You succeeded in making an awesome video.... :D
Yeah :D
Wow this Was exciting. You have so much luck.
Well done mate awesome footage i want one now lol
Lucky.....but how can you say the valley was too narrow to fly wing ?????
because a wing needs space. its better, your homeport ist far away from the mountains, so you must not get your altitude with cycling and if you fly a little bit behind the mountain, you don't risk a failsafe or that your picture gone...
And you could see your distance increasing so how did you think home was forward?
Nice landing ;-)
Wow lucky u
Wrong falesafe and the best Joke was the spotter 🤣 was it Chuck Norris?
An 2 Meter Wing with leds you can see about 2 km.
really scary!
Well done mate!!!! ;-)
Glück gehabt :-)
Is there any possibility to automatically activate RTH upon rxloss?
Yes, normally that works, but here you can see, that it not works...
Usually if RX loss, it will triggered fail safe
Great video! Awesome channel 👍 new sub🤙
Amazing video even if it was scary as hell!
quick question. I was looking at your RSSI value and it stayed pinned at 99. is that accurate?
Yeah, thats normal. First the 5.8 ghz Video Link lost, a view seconds later, crossfire link lost, but you cant see it in the Video. :D
@@JB-Scooter You're saying your RSSI was actually at 99 the whole time?
Likely loss telemetry but maintained control link. Thats why it didnt initiate rth on its own.
What do you mean by "noflight have zones" in your description?
No flight area zones
ooof. my heart rate!!
There are two ways this couldve been prevented:
1. Set your failsave to return to home so if you loose singnal the wing comes back
2. Use your osd home arrow and home distance to find the way back to home before you lose video
Great flying man, glad it came back. But why not set your failsafe to RTH? Then it would have come back right away
I set my failsafe to RTH. But Crossfire FW on this time had a bug and made not RTH after failsafe to Inav
Return to home on signal loss should be a thing like it is on DJI Drones
Normally that works, but I made a fw update with a failsafe bug, so it didn't worked...
Just FYI, a few months ago a crappy iNav version 2.5.2 caused one of my long-range quads to crash and the next day glitched and randomly disarmed my loaded FX-61 several miles away and it crashed into the side of a mountain. Only Ardupilot and Betaflight for me from now on. I'll never use iNav again regardless how many people say it works fine for them.
Damn that really sucks. Guessing you never got it back? What FC?
@@mattsupertramp6506 When I saw it go down in the trees I knew it was gone for good. If it had gone down in a more open area I would have attempted a rescue. FC was a Matek 405-Wing.
Sorry for your loss brother. We've all been there. So sad for such a great wing
@@jamesordwayultralightpilot Thanks, man.
how come you don't have failsafe as RTH? Nice area to fly in
One big Problem was, that this crossfire fw has a bug, which not detected a failsafe....
😅😅😅😅
Suspenseful. It will take a while before I can regrow fingernails.
:D
Amazing video.. So you were just using TBS Fusion + Fatshark and TBS Unify Pro HV VTX to get that Video range?
Yes, I can fly with 25mw 4km
JB-Copter Wooow I need to get my TBS Fusion
JB-Copter appreciate a lot, I will start following you! You are my sensei
@@JB-Scooter what antennae do you use?
TrueRC X^2 and TrueRC Axii
Something very wrong with setup, rth should engage on signal loss / failsafe
The Problem ist Crsshot... The firmware have a failsafe bug...
@@JB-Scooter Can you link to read about it please ?
IS this near chamonix,
Aiguille du midi?
no
Nice rescue but why didn't u set gps rescue as failsafe? In this case the wing would have returned as soon as your radio signal was lost.
The problem was the update from crossfire. This firmware had a failsafe error, so it doesn’t work
Brilliant video. I'm new to the hobby, but if you lose connection you could have set RTH as a failsafe? . By the way... you have a new subscriber!
The Problem was that I fly the new Crossshot protocol that has in this time a few bugs... One of them was, that failsafe did not work...
@@JB-Scooter ah ok. Thanks for explaining this to me.
Look forward to seeing more of your videos!
lucky!
Oha dein videosignal!
you dont have Failsafe configured to turn on RTH automatically?
Firmware bug from TBS was the Problem
Where was this?
Alps
Well guys we have learned our lesson it is to be stupid.
nice job at being patient and not hitting disarm but u may want to consider putting voice with your switches so when u hit the switch it tells you what mode ur in and u can have it repeat. but hopefully lesson learned and enjoy and you did not loose a plane
Yes! :D
Doesn't RTH automatically when losing signal?
Crazy. I don't know if I'd have the patience to wait that long. I almost lost my quad few days ago. I went to turn around video cut. When I reached to raise vtx power throttle lowered. By time I hit GPS rescue it was diving for a tree luckily didn't hit. I had gopro footage to see after lol
Yeah, normally. But the Crossfire firmware at that time had a bug where the failsafe didn't activate itself and the last flight mode just stayed active....
@@JB-Scooter oh man.. I'm so worried about losing a drone and mine I'm sure cost a lot less than urs haha
That's why I don't do stupid things just kidding I do stupid things.
Dude you had the arrow pointing you home just follow it.
You must of been screaming with joy. Cause I know I woukd of.
fuck that was sketchy xD but shouldn't RTH auto-enable in case you lose signal?
Wow stresfull.... But why didn't you set up rth on failsaife?
of course, but i had the failsafe bug on crossshot.
JB-Copter Failsafe bug ? I’ve just set up a mid ranger that I plan to fly at distance. It’s on CRSFShot, what bug should I be aware of ? 😲
I mean did it really go wrong if you returned safely. Haha
what means POS ?
Position
You make me sweat watching you lost telemetry
bordel cte moule ! :v
fake how the drone is still flaying alone after losing connection ?????????????????
Do some research dude.
Do you ever heard about a autopilot?
Un marziano???? Ma come fa a volare il ragno? Giochetti
I have my doubt about the validity of this video. Been flying drone and long range crafts for years and this very questionable. the fact that you regained a decent and not weak signal around the same spot that you lost signal and circled it several time is very unlikely. Just look at the way the signal dropped out. furthermore at 1km out you will maintain crossfire link long after losing video. Don't believe me, ask Trappy himself. SO basically I'm saying this video was staged, especially the fact that you were completely unmoved by the event, so much so that you completely the mission after regaining signal. Anyone that actually does long range know that if you were to lost connect in a place where you might not be able to regain your model then if by some "luck" you regain connection the you immediately come back. Just for the sake of checking out your craft to make sure it wasn't an issue with your setup or an issue with the flying environment. Completely STAGED,
