    Amazing Keith! I've just looked into the AR Wing and stumbled over this video of yours. Can't believe how nice your "groundstation" has become. Imagine it's even more advanced now almost 2 years later. Also your analog video is pretty solid (but that's to be expected from you!)
    thanks for the long flight, greets, Mario

      Hi Mario! Yeah this is a pretty fun set up for cruising around like this. Not everyone likes the AR Pro for various reasons, but I guess that same could be said for most planes... lol I like it, though it is a little difficult to get in the air with a heavy battery like I have, until you get the hang of it. I found it easy if I throw it overhead and backwards, with two hands. You pretty much need autolaunch for that though, and have to trust it! lol Once I started throwing it like that though, it's quick and easy to get airborne and I haven't had a failed launch yet. In the air it's reasonably fast and efficient and about as smooth as a wing can be really.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim 2 роки тому

      @@bonafidepirate Thanks for the infos! For the first flights I wanna keep it simple and fly without FC or GPS, so no autolaunch - but also I will just use a 7000mah LiIon max - or rather my 3300mah 4cell lipos. 20-30mins are more than enough for my flights.
      Currently I focus more on the flying part - then on tech heavy missions ;) I want to rule out everything that prevents me from flying more.
      The only downside is the video breakup anxiety when out a bit further ;)
      greets, Mario

      @@Rcschim Keep in mind, the AR Pro needs some weight up front to balance on the CG. With a smaller battery, I needed either a heavy HD cam in the nose, or some dead weight there. I was flying around with a chunk of lead up front for a bit, and thought I might as well replace that with useful weight, hence the larger battery... lol

    beautifull and warm weather assuming you recorded it in december ...
    interesting how relaxed and fluently you can talk while flying and discuss ever more complex topics.
    Very efficient plane and battery so far even though you had said these were the cheaper 18650 cells.
    My AR wing has arrived and the TX16S too with the tbs crossfire ... and matek 405 is already there. But I have a DJI airunit - but the one for the dji goggles racing edition that can handle both, analog and digital fpv.
    But you can forget all that cause one piece is missing: no nice weather front that would make someone happe to fly.

    I have used Ardupilot in the past to set up a "battery test course". It involves setting up a 3 way point mission, each waypoint beiing the vertex of an equal sided triangle. Then use the do jump command to have the plane repeat the course many times. If you locate the course so your ground station is near the mid point of one side of the triangle you remain in relatively close proximity to the aircraft so you can easily land when the batteries get low. The three sided course also helps to negate the affects of wind so you can repeat the testing with a different brand or type of battery for comparison. When I ran my testing with ardupilot controlling the plane I was surprised that lap times for a given test session were within a very small number of seconds of each other. Also, for variety I had the plane increase altitude for one leg, decrease altitude for the second leg and fly level on the third leg. Maybe not as much fun to fly but it takes the pilot out of the equation for a more automated test.

      Yeah, I had to focus on just Arduplane for a bit to really start understanding it, it's a steep curve for sure but it pays off just as much. I don't regret diving in, just wish I had done it earlier! lol I do hate to see the Vector go, I wish they had put more into developing it, not that it needed improvements but it was already so good, they could have made something amazing with a V2 I think! • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  3 роки тому

      I didn't weigh it with this pack, it's only slightly heavier than with the 5200 Lipo. I was able to remove most of the lead weight from the nose after putting this battery in. I did see a little bit if improvement after changing to this prop, but not a huge one. I need to adjust the LVC before I push the battery on some longer flights. All I did was enable the brake... lol

      This one used here is a Caddx Ratel (linked in description) and I think it's one of the best all-around cameras you can get in the same price range. If you want the very best night flying cameras, look at the Runcam Night Eagle series. I've flown the Night Eagle Pro 2, but there's a newer V3 out now as well. The V2 is just black and white, the V3 can do color in the day time. Here's my video with the V2 - ua-cam.com/video/5Rqgn0WI1uo/v-deo.html

    I am enjoying watching this wing and looking to get one when the new power system comes with it so thanks for the flight tests. I was wondering though I also have dragonlink but have been changing over to Crossfire do you trust Dragonlink more or is there another reason you don't use it? It's just smaller and imo gives way more info back. Really going to miss my Vector now i have to learn a new system all over Sigh

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  3 роки тому +1

      Personally, I think the only advantage Crossfire has over Dragonlink for a flight like this, is lower cost receivers. Not long ago I would have said the more "user friendly" 900MHz too, but this is DL's new 900MHz system. ;) I like all the features that Dragonlink has geared more toward fixed wing, tons of options to map things in the inputs and outputs, full featured and full range serial "modem" over the same UHF link, and a 1W radio in the receiver so you get full telemetry at max range. The Crossfire is really built around quads, and I think it's the best system in the world for that, they do it right. I think the same of Dragonlink for fixed wing though. ;)

    • @Acidrain50001
      @Acidrain50001 3 роки тому

      @@bonafidepirate Ill have to look into this new DL it might peak my interest in them again. I fly both more so quads than fixed wings as winter sucks here so I wanted something that just plugs into the back of the TX and can do both. I started with Dl and would love to use them again in my fixed wings for the reasons you said but I hate the bulky box on the back. I though the CrossFire would do the same job but I haven't finished building my long range wing yet to know. I thought the FC like "Vector" does the telemetry not DL? or did something change I am unaware of? Thanks for responding and great content.

    • @oliverer3
      @oliverer3 2 роки тому

      Hey, I realize you made this comment quite a while ago but li-ion packs are made to discharge to much lower voltages than your typical lipo pouch cells. Many manufacturers claim end of discharge to be as low as 2.5V per cell. However, when flying 3V per cell is a much safer voltage to shoot for. So according to the datasheet of the cells in that battery at 14V (3.5V per cell) you've not even drained a third of the battery. Try draining it to about 12V and you should get a much longer flight time without damaging your battery at all.
      Hope you can get some use of this information despite it's tardiness.
