I always believed that the zap "kiss" Eve gives Wall-e at the end is how he retrieves his memories. How? I think the first time she did it, she unintentionally saved the data of his memories, and when she did it again, she unintentionally transferred the data back again. It is my headcanon that he would have forgotten everything that happened after that first "kiss" out in space.
You're thinking too logical with it. It's more the kiss of life. Wall-E was the first robot to have a soul, as seen by him not only outlasting the other Wall-E units, but being curious about the world and interested in love. When we first see Eve, she's only interested in her directive, and finds Wall-E fascinating but also strange. At the moment that she kisses Wall-E, she gets life. We see this when she brings the plant to the Captain and begins to want to hold hands with him. Later, she even discards her directive, choosing to be with him instead. We also see it to a lesser extent with the other robots and humans that Wall-E comes into contact with. Mo, that typing robot, and all the broken robots gain a semblance of sentience, able to think and act outside of their programming. Wall-E directly interacts with John, Susan, and the Captain, triggering them to gain humanity and think for themselves. By the end of the film, the only robots who lack this humanity are Auto and Gofer, and they are thus destroyed or shut down. After Wall-E has all his parts replaced, he's factory reset, but Eve gives him the kiss of life, restoring him. Basically, I don't think that it has anything to do with transferring files. It's deeper and more emotional than that.

I spent my lock down in 2020 showing my favorite movies to my family. When my options were empty, I remembered this movie. It was perfect to our times because of the lifestyle of the people in the movie, my family realized they were living almost exactly like that reality.

Even in 2008, I think the scene when Wall-E disconnects the first person from her screen is a commentary that you shouldn't live your life always on social media, but to get up off your @ss and see life with your own eyes.
The very fact that you believe that only shows how rooted in the present you are. Back then smartphones were a mere pinprick compared to what they were just 5 years later - social media was mostly just MySpace pages and a bit of Facebook, it was not even a spark compared to the all life consuming inferno it is today.

It's not even 15 years old yet. Sure, Aladdin, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid are old movies by now (though being a kid in the late 80's and early 90's it still doesn't feel that to me), Snow White which will be 90 in five years, THAT is super old movie along with Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi.
I remember watching this in the theaters and amazed that so much emotional content could be conveyed through sheer visuals during the opening portion. I mean, I knew this was possible, but it wasn't something you normally associated with movies due to either songs or scripts. Seeing them go back to this old story-telling method of relying on visuals alone was heartwarming. And it was kind of fun seeing the young kids in the theater at the time all getting so invested in Wall-E simply by following his daily routine and interaction with the world around him.
I really like seeing perspectives from other countries on my childhood movies. Being a Brazilian your accent made me feel at home, it was very refreshing for me.

One of my favorites Pixar movies when I was a kid. This movie makes me sad and happy because of Wall-E and Eve’s Relationship. Also AUTO is such a villain I hate and love at the same time.
This film proves many things, first of all (which is outside the film itself) is the fact that Pixar animation studios is one of the most skilled animation studios and group of creatives in existence (although they have not always made only masterpieces). Secondly, speaking of the movie itself well, what more is there to say than what you have seen ... not much actually 😅. The film despite having as main characters who do not speak manages PERFECTLY to convey the full range of emotions they feel, with a truly wonderful delicacy and realism. The level of criticism of man's indifference, to delegating problems to others by not assuming their own responsibilities, to society that is increasingly consumed and lobotomized (in the parenthesis on the Axiom), ecology and much more ... in short, everything makes us reflect and, at the same time, entertains with light and comic scenes. Before Wall-E I think only one other animated film did it, Brad Bird's The Iron Giant (which I highly recommend to anyone in case you miss it 😁, even you girls 💪).
1 thing that I like about WALL-E that not enough people bring up is that if you isolate the parts with just WALL-E the story works, but if you isolate the parts with just the Captain the story also still works. It's 1 of the few Disney films that actually does a subplot that is just as interesting as the main plot.
My kids grew up on a diet of old movies that my wife and I grew up watching when we were children, from the Marx Brothers to the classic Universal monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc.) to the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein. And they all have a great appreciation for these films, not because of their age, but their quality, something that never ages.
I'm 32 & many of my favourite movies are older classics: Some Like It Hot, Life of Brian, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Psycho, Manhunter, It's a Wonderful Life, Blade Runner & Spinal Tap. All were made before I was born, some decades before...I even converted a few of my friends too The first half of Wall-E is one of the most beautiful & thought-provoking movies ever made.
The reason EVE threw the plant away is because her priority have changed from doing her job to be with WALL-E, as she loves him. While it seemed that at first that WALL-E giving her the plant was him saying "Don't worry about me, go and finish your job." it was "Take the plant to the holo-dectector so we can go back to Earth. The parts for fixing me are there." which EVE did understand when he said "Earth" while holding the plant.
Wall E is super old , classic and probably the Storage house of many great memories . I am sure i watched this as an eight years old And cried for like a day 😅 and some what cried a little watching it again with you both . The movie was everything happy , sad , apocalypse , sci fi futuristic robot etc . This is One of my all time favourite list of movie.

Elissa Knight did the voice for Tia in Cars franchise so she's not just a "random" staffer. I mean story staff, animators, producers and directors can have good voices and voice act too, that's why Joe Ranft became Heimlich and voiced a lot of Pixar characters, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and even John Lasseter got voice roles, big and small, and animator Peter Sohn is now the new "John Ratzenberger"/Alan Tudyk.

In this movie the humans have spent almost 800+ years on that spaceship which is a luxery liner so they evolved and grew up while being constantly pampered and eventually grew to not need to use their bodies and since they didn't know any better until they started to experience life without the screen in their face. When the woman's screen turned off and she said "woah!" it's because she never really saw the ship before and just saw the screen that showed her everything
I always loved this movie. I enjoy watching this again, it makes me realize how little this movie relies on dialogue, its such pure storytelling, it can touch anybody anywhere. The themes it conveys are so pure of heart. This is truly a masterpiece. A pleasure to see this again with you both.
Wall-e is one of my favorite movies, another one that I highly recommend, which has a similar atmosphere, is the movie called "9" (nine), directed by Tim Burton and also set in a post-apocalyptic world and animated in 3D.
9 is great! It's darker and more depressing than Wall-E but still has a happy ending. I remember it leaving a strong impression on me as a child when I first saw it. I rewatched it as a young adult and it was even better. Greatly underrated!

Some Trivia. Directive A-113 is named after an inside joke which appears in other Pixar films. There is a short called BURN-E, it takes place from the side of that robot outside the Axiom, you know? The white and red one that got trapped outside, he has an unfortunate time throughout the entire movie.
I know what it's like to have been forgotten by someone you love... I was Wall-E... I lived with my girlfriend who changed over the years and I was alone. Waiting for the woman I loved to come back. Waiting for her to remember who she was when she loved me.. I could have left at any time.. Given up and gone home.. But I stayed. Every day I would tell her that I loved her. Every day, I looked after her and the house, her car, and the pets. I kept hoping that the good person she was would come back. I would see her from time to time. Peeking though the person she became. She was still in there.... -- She died in my arms of cancer this June.. I'd taken her to the hospital and I was there every day with her.. In the end, I got the "Quantum Leap" ending... -- I spent years holding my own hands like Wall-E and praying that things would change. Sometimes, there are no happy endings. Or redemption. (addendum :. "Quantum Leap" was a TV show from the 90s in which Dr. Beckett would leap from person to person, year to year, and put the wrong things right. The last episode, ends on a black screen with the words, "Dr. Sam Beckett never returned." --- Fans were in an uproar because all those seasons of waiting to see if he gets home, and we felt like we got gypped. --- It's only when you look back at it as an older person that you realize he made the right choice. That the hero's job, is never really done.) -- In my relationship, I felt cheated. That had there been more time, maybe the good person she was would have come back. In the last six months, I lost her, the house, I had to give our pets to the shelter... And now I'm truly alone. Just me and the ghosts. The memories of the happy and the sad. And I will always be haunted by the last image in my head of her laying in a very quiet room turning blue and cold in the dim light.. No matter how many years we had, it wasn't long enough. And those last months flew through me like angry birds with razors..

Fun fact, the name of the robot is Wall-E after Walter Elias Disney (Walt Disney), and he representes the old classic Disney movies, while EVE represents the new computer generated movies from Pixar, also they resemble the old PCs and the new Apple computers, since Steve Jobs helped develop some programs for Pixar.
I always have fond memories of this film. This was the first film I took my first long term partner to. We were working on our post grads at uni at the time. We had a great time and it was really cute. Her mates compared me to Wall-E and her Eve considering our differences. I like to believe it was due to my practical skills. Also I love the lack of general dialogue in the film, Sigourney Weaver emoted so well as Eve. On an outside thought, you peeps should check out British pantomimes if you want a laugh :D
Sigourney Weaver didn’t voice Eve. Weaver voiced the ship’s computer (which did the automatic announcements, etc). Eve was voiced by a Pixar employee named Elissa Knight.
this is my favorite Disney movie of all time. I have always liked robots when I was little and would always break or take apart my electronic toys just so I could see how they work and so I could see the motherboard inside. When this movie released at the movie's I wanted to see but couldn't cause my parents couldn't afford it. 2 months later they got me the film on DVD and I started freaking out. I sat down and watched it with them and fell in love with the movie and till this day it will always be my favorite film.
About those "trash skyscrapers", the WALL-Es were meant to build those massive piles of trash cubes, which were then loaded on shuttles and discharged into space. You can see the city full of them because at some point the shuttles stopped to remove them and every WALL-E on Earth gradually stopped working because of no maintenance and harsh climatic conditions. Our WALL-E survived because he always managed to take cover in the WALL-E carrier truck and learned how to repair himself with salvaged parts from the broken WALL-Es. He also learned about human behaviour and emotions, especially with that old movie, "Hello Dolly", until he managed to feel and show those emotions, too. 18:52 because these humans became so lazy, they choose to never left that condition of "total comfort"... that's why they became so fat and their appendages looks so undeveloped. 31:20 Those are WALL-A (Waste Allocator and Load Lifter-Axiom class) they're based on WALL-E architecture (the E stands for Earth class) and works like them, but in larger scale. 32:40 that's the meaning of that scene: WALL-E: Follow your directive... EVE: No... now YOU are my directive! W: NO! FOLLOW YOUR DIRECTIVE! It's the only way to come back to Earth. And Earth it's the only place where you can find the parts to fix me! Remember what I did with my eye? 36:59 Fun fact: The BGM starting at this point is the maintheme of 2001: Space Odissey. The main villain of that movie is the AI HAL 9000, a supercomputer with a big red eye. AUTO is heavily inspired to that AI.

You guys should watch Burn-E. It's a short animation that follows a repair robot aboard the space-cruiseliner and what it goes through during the latter half of this movie (it's pretty funny.)
There is a little "in credits story" showing how the humans and the robots work together to build new homes, planting and farm food, construct new water lines and aqueducts ... but not in a big exessive and wasteful way, more in an old-fashion style and reliable.
Johnny 5 is alive! And that goes a little closer to qualifying as a "super old" movie than this one is, but I still wouldn't even put that one in that category.
The reason the other Deviants followed the music, was because it was playing from Wall-E whenever he first met them/broke them out. So they just knew that Music meant Wall-E.
Here's a lesser-used theme in science-fiction...a future where mankind has become completely dependent on technology. The very first issue of MAD (the comic book that preceded the magazine) had a story called *Blobs* ,where man, now a non-speaking, bug-eyed, limp-bodied creature ,rode around in motorized machines that performed every single action for them. Although intended as a parody of EC's own sci-fi stories, on-target satire. The 1975 Saturday-morning TV series *The Lost Saucer* had an episode with a similar plot... a future where all of mankind was fat because robots did all the work. That message is also part of the Zagler and Evans song *In The Year 2525* .
Wall-e ‘ s card was for his energy. When a robot loses power the memory goes. If you think this movie hits you in the feels and is “ super old” try Short Circuit
WALL-E was part of cleaning bots to remove trash and garbage. I think that he is only one left the planet. I think that he became self-aware from experiences on the planet. As both of you see, he became lonely, of course with his buddy, bug (I don't it is a roach). This movie gets me every time that I watch it because even non-human machines know love.

The reason the big reveal that Auto is the "villain" is because the code he recieved; A113, then they show the previous captains. . . Auto slowly gets closer and closer to the center. This coincides with the command he recieved which was to take control of everything and to not return to earth. So hes not a VILLAIN but moreso just someone who follows orders unquestionably.
Ellie & Viki, you should be sure to watch all the way through the end credits -- they tell the story in drawings of what happens next for these people and Wall-e.

Amazing movie, definitely one of my favourites by Pixar. Also, I do agree with most people in the comments? I have always found it it a little strange (even as a child) when people say that a 20 years old movie is old. I mean, I'm barely above my 20s myself now, but for me anything that isn't from the early 80's or older is barely considered "aged" in my books. When it's about 20 years old, it's maybe "retro" depending on how different it is from nowadays themes... When something is nearing their 50s it becomes "vintage". Only when something is nearing a hundred years I actually think of it as an "antique/old", and that applies for everything for me, from music to furniture.
Machines can have soul, they may be programmed to follow orders or enjoying their blind obedience against other people, but there is also love among other robots. All they have to do is to educate what it's like to be human, to love, to help, to guide, to learn, to teach, to live freely. That is an amazing movie, no doubt.

This is a great movie. I also recommend a favorite of mine…Iron Giant. You will definitely cry if you watch it …but in a good way!

Yeah Pixar used to mean great quality movies until 2015. Once John Lassiter left it went downhill in a hurry

My kids grew up on a diet of old movies that my wife and I grew up watching when we were children, from the Marx Brothers to the classic Universal monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc.) to the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein. And they all have a great appreciation for these films, not because of their age, but their quality, something that never ages.
I'm 32 & many of my favourite movies are older classics: Some Like It Hot, Life of Brian, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Psycho, Manhunter, It's a Wonderful Life, Blade Runner & Spinal Tap. All were made before I was born, some decades before...I even converted a few of my friends too
The first half of Wall-E is one of the most beautiful & thought-provoking movies ever made.
The reason EVE threw the plant away is because her priority have changed from doing her job to be with WALL-E, as she loves him. While it seemed that at first that WALL-E giving her the plant was him saying "Don't worry about me, go and finish your job." it was "Take the plant to the holo-dectector so we can go back to Earth. The parts for fixing me are there." which EVE did understand when he said "Earth" while holding the plant.
Wall E is super old , classic and probably the Storage house of many great memories . I am sure i watched this as an eight years old And cried for like a day 😅 and some what cried a little watching it again with you both . The movie was everything happy , sad , apocalypse , sci fi futuristic robot etc . This is One of my all time favourite list of movie.

EVE's voice actress was some random PIXAR staffer who recorded the lines as placeholders.
Elissa Knight did the voice for Tia in Cars franchise so she's not just a "random" staffer. I mean story staff, animators, producers and directors can have good voices and voice act too, that's why Joe Ranft became Heimlich and voiced a lot of Pixar characters, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and even John Lasseter got voice roles, big and small, and animator Peter Sohn is now the new "John Ratzenberger"/Alan Tudyk.
@@mevb my point was she was not who they had in mind, but she did it so well that they didn't bother hiring someone else and just mixed her work. Her recording of the lines was originally meant as a how-to reference for whoever they were gonna get later.

God I love this movie so much. It's still my favourite Pixar film to date, so sweet - and I love that such a large portion of the movie is basically a silent film
In this movie the humans have spent almost 800+ years on that spaceship which is a luxery liner so they evolved and grew up while being constantly pampered and eventually grew to not need to use their bodies and since they didn't know any better until they started to experience life without the screen in their face.
When the woman's screen turned off and she said "woah!" it's because she never really saw the ship before and just saw the screen that showed her everything

I always loved this movie. I enjoy watching this again, it makes me realize how little this movie relies on dialogue, its such pure storytelling, it can touch anybody anywhere. The themes it conveys are so pure of heart. This is truly a masterpiece. A pleasure to see this again with you both.

Wall-e is one of my favorite movies, another one that I highly recommend, which has a similar atmosphere, is the movie called "9" (nine), directed by Tim Burton and also set in a post-apocalyptic world and animated in 3D.
9 is amazing, hugely underrated! I've never seen anyone post a reaction to it.
9 is great! It's darker and more depressing than Wall-E but still has a happy ending. I remember it leaving a strong impression on me as a child when I first saw it. I rewatched it as a young adult and it was even better. Greatly underrated!

Some Trivia. Directive A-113 is named after an inside joke which appears in other Pixar films. It's the homeroom of John Lassiters and other Pixar key founders at the Art School they went to, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). You'll see A-113 hidden in all the Pixar movies and other animated movies.

I know what it's like to have been forgotten by someone you love... I was Wall-E... I lived with my girlfriend who changed over the years and I was alone. Waiting for the woman I loved to come back. Waiting for her to remember who she was when she loved me.. I could have left at any time.. Given up and gone home.. But I stayed. Every day I would tell her that I loved her. Every day, I looked after her and the house, her car, and the pets. I kept hoping that the good person she was would come back. I would see her from time to time. Peeking though the person she became. She was still in there.... -- She died in my arms of cancer this June.. I'd taken her to the hospital and I was there every day with her.. In the end, I got the "Quantum Leap" ending... -- I spent years holding my own hands like Wall-E and praying that things would change. Sometimes, there are no happy endings. Or redemption. (addendum :. "Quantum Leap" was a TV show from the 90s in which Dr. Beckett would leap from person to person, year to year, and put the wrong things right. The last episode, ends on a black screen with the words, "Dr. Sam Beckett never returned." --- Fans were in an uproar because all those seasons of waiting to see if he gets home, and we felt like we got gypped. --- It's only when you look back at it as an older person that you realize he made the right choice. That the hero's job, is never really done.) -- In my relationship, I felt cheated. That had there been more time, maybe the good person she was would have come back. In the last six months, I lost her, the house, I had to give our pets to the shelter... And now I'm truly alone. Just me and the ghosts. The memories of the happy and the sad. And I will always be haunted by the last image in my head of her laying in a very quiet room turning blue and cold in the dim light.. No matter how many years we had, it wasn't long enough. And those last months flew through me like angry birds with razors..

Fun fact, the name of the robot is Wall-E after Walter Elias Disney (Walt Disney), and he representes the old classic Disney movies, while EVE represents the new computer generated movies from Pixar, also they resemble the old PCs and the new Apple computers, since Steve Jobs helped develop some programs for Pixar.
I always have fond memories of this film.
This was the first film I took my first long term partner to. We were working on our post grads at uni at the time.
We had a great time and it was really cute.
Her mates compared me to Wall-E and her Eve considering our differences. I like to believe it was due to my practical skills.
Also I love the lack of general dialogue in the film, Sigourney Weaver emoted so well as Eve.

Sigourney Weaver didn’t voice Eve. Weaver voiced the ship’s computer (which did the automatic announcements, etc). Eve was voiced by a Pixar employee named Elissa Knight.
this is my favorite Disney movie of all time. I have always liked robots when I was little and would always break or take apart my electronic toys just so I could see how they work and so I could see the motherboard inside. When this movie released at the movie's I wanted to see but couldn't cause my parents couldn't afford it. 2 months later they got me the film on DVD and I started freaking out. I sat down and watched it with them and fell in love with the movie and till this day it will always be my favorite film.

About those "trash skyscrapers", the WALL-Es were meant to build those massive piles of trash cubes, which were then loaded on shuttles and discharged into space. You can see the city full of them because at some point the shuttles stopped to remove them and every WALL-E on Earth gradually stopped working because of no maintenance and harsh climatic conditions.
Our WALL-E survived because he always managed to take cover in the WALL-E carrier truck and learned how to repair himself with salvaged parts from the broken WALL-Es. He also learned about human behaviour and emotions, especially with that old movie, "Hello Dolly", until he managed to feel and show those emotions, too.

WALL-E is my All time favorite Pixar Movie
There is a little "in credits story" showing how the humans and the robots work together to build new homes, planting and farm food, construct new water lines and aqueducts ... but not in a big exessive and wasteful way, more in an old-fashion style and reliable.
I've always thought *WALL-E* looks like he could be the child of the robot *Johnny 5* from *(Short Circuit)*

The reason the other Deviants followed the music, was because it was playing from Wall-E whenever he first met them/broke them out. So they just knew that Music meant Wall-E.

Here's a lesser-used theme in science-fiction...a future where mankind has become completely dependent on technology.
The very first issue of MAD (the comic book that preceded the magazine) had a story called *Blobs* ,where man, now a non-speaking, bug-eyed, limp-bodied creature ,rode around in motorized machines that performed every single action for them. Although intended as a parody of EC's own sci-fi stories, on-target satire.
The 1975 Saturday-morning TV series *The Lost Saucer* had an episode with a similar plot... a future where all of mankind was fat because robots did all the work.
That message is also part of the Zagler and Evans song *In The Year 2525* .
Wall-e ‘ s card was for his energy. When a robot loses power the memory goes. If you think this movie hits you in the feels and is “ super old” try Short Circuit

WALL-E was part of cleaning bots to remove trash and garbage. I think that he is only one left the planet. I think that he became self-aware from experiences on the planet. As both of you see, he became lonely, of course with his buddy, bug (I don't it is a roach). This movie gets me every time that I watch it because even non-human machines know love.

The reason the big reveal that Auto is the "villain" is because the code he recieved; A113, then they show the previous captains. . . Auto slowly gets closer and closer to the center. This coincides with the command he recieved which was to take control of everything and to not return to earth. So hes not a VILLAIN but moreso just someone who follows orders unquestionably.

Amazing movie, definitely one of my favourites by Pixar. Also, I do agree with most people in the comments? I have always found it it a little strange (even as a child) when people say that a 20 years old movie is old. I mean, I'm barely above my 20s myself now, but for me anything that isn't from the early 80's or older is barely considered "aged" in my books. When it's about 20 years old, it's maybe "retro" depending on how different it is from nowadays themes... When something is nearing their 50s it becomes "vintage". Only when something is nearing a hundred years I actually think of it as an "antique/old", and that applies for everything for me, from music to furniture.
This movie is really spectacular. I remember seeing it when I was 8 or 9.
You guys have to do Inside Out next. I think that and Wall E were the two best Pixar movies.

Machines can have soul, they may be programmed to follow orders or enjoying their blind obedience against other people, but there is also love among other robots. All they have to do is to educate what it's like to be human, to love, to help, to guide, to learn, to teach, to live freely. That is an amazing movie, no doubt.
