Are you KIDDING me?? This is incredible!! Glen is still crossing over his work, and he never sounds out of element. Count me as both a Glen Campbell and Green Day fan.
Glen Campbell is not only an amazing musician, he is a true hero as he conducts his final tour, openly allowing discussions regarding Alzheimer's disease and his recent diagnosis. He is a brave man who will do a great service toward ending a horrible disease. My very best to him for a long and joyful life!
If you're a Green Day fan & don't like this -- you must nuts. Campbell gives Green Day the credibility it deserves. Campbell performed one of Green Day's best songs with respect & dignity. Green Day should be proud. Mocking Campbell is a mistake. It obviously proves you don't know the man's musical history. He's performed on great tracks, with excellent bands & musicians. His guitar playing is incredible. You play The William Tell Overture on an acoustic guitar. He's one of the few.
Great talent known for his hit songs one right after another. His guitar playing was excellent too. He passed away today August 8th 2017, at 81 years old. For the young people seeing this post this guy in his day was a big time talent.
I am a Green Day, Foo Fighters and Glen Campbell fan. Glen just demonstrates that for truly talented people such as himself, it really doesn't matter the genre of music. Glen is a musician for the ages. Glen can take any song and truly make it his own, this is the mark of true talent. God bless you Glen.
Glen Campbell could really sing anything, and kept his talent polished and shining right up until the end. Thank you for all the wonderful songs from my childhood and teens, and for sharing your ending with us. RIP.
him doing tis song takes on a whole new meaning now that hes been diagnosed with alzhiemers, i hope you had the time of your life glenn, god,s speed on your journey, your music will live on! GOD BLESS!! PEACE!!
Way to go, Mr Campbell. Welcome back....er...you never left. It's not a competition. This isn't better, or greater than the original, it's just different. It's strong and solid.
A master-- this is how it's done. As a studio musician Glenn Campbell played on countless studio recording as a nameless guitar player in the 60s. Thank god he struck out on his own. His version of this Green Day song shows he is unparalleled as a artist. Gives me chills.
Here's another "old fart" who listened to Glen Campbell, & still enjoy hearing him. Green Day is my favorite band for many reasons. Knowing of the rough young life Bill Joe Armstrong had, his determination to follow his passion, using his music to help make his life bearable, as well as helping countless others with his words of "rebellion", his one of a kind concerts, and just his overall brilliance as a musician & songwriter, make him unique. Thank you for your version Glen Cambell ! !
+Kori Biggs You should really check out the Bluegrass tribute to Green Day. It's amazing. I haven't checked, but I'd imagine those tracks are easily findable here on youtube.
I remember "The Glen Campbell Show" when I was a kid in the 70's and have always liked his music. I have always been a fan of music, especially rock. Billy Joe is great and Green Day, too. Campbell is a master. It really blew me away when I heard Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I then heard this video and heard him sing "Good Riddance" (though the video was before the diagnosis). I really like that song, once again Campbell didn't disappoint. Probably a 35+ year gap there, from when I saw him on his show and then this video, and I can say that he is still great.
Glen Campbell was (is) one of the best guitar pickers in the recording industry, having worked as a studio session musician and backup vocalist long before he got his break as a solo artist. In fact, few are aware that he also performed backup vocals for The Beach Boys. He transcended both pop and country music, although most people today are only acquainted with him as a country singer.
It must be an honor and a humbling thing to play guitar in a band where the 70 year old lead singer was part of the "Wrecking Crew" and who is one of the absolute most talented guitar players of the last 40 - 50 years....and who even at his age and beginning to see the onset of Alzheimer's can still out play you without even breaking a sweat.
Probably one of the best muscians of the 20th century - from backing up the Beach Boys - to out on his own - Campbell as a true performer - and an amazing talent on the guitar!!!
It's sad that Glen is suffering from Alzheimer's. What's heroic about it is that he knows and is fighting to get one more album out and tour once more before it takes him. I was never much of a fan of his but I can't think of anything that is at once as heartbreaking and truly courageous. God bless him.
Glenn Campbell nailed this 100% Think i heard he's retired due to ill health. What ever his long term prognosis is, I wish him well an love listening to his songs
Such a great performer...played his 'Hand that Rocks the Cradle' at my mother's funeral. His song ;Let Me Be a Little Kinder' is my favorite Christian-oriented song of his. He has touched many lives with his music and his performances will be missed. May God be with him and his family.
He was my granfather's favourite singer, he passed away 2 years ago.. and my sister did a skydive for bowel cancer, and they dubbed 'Time of your life' over the dvd. This is just a perfect reminder of him. Glen Campell, you are underapreciated.
Just saw him live last night for the very first time. I remember my parents playing his music when I was VERY YOUNG. His show was AMAZING --he played FOO FIGHTERS last night! G.C. RAWKS! I hope I get to see him live again, because I'd SO GO without hesitation!
Having known Campbell mostly by his classic hits, such as "Wichita Lineman" I spent yesterday listening to his work - marveling at what an astoundingly talented and versatile performer he was. An enormous range, from covers such as these to his guitar work with Roy Clark to "Amazing Grace" with bagpipes, yet! A consummate musician, even when insidious ravages of Alzheimers began surfacing (Ghost on the Canvas). RIP, Glen Campbell and thank you for sharing your gift as long as you could.
Glen Campbell as a musician who was fortunate to back you at Harrah's Tahoe I am appreciative of and Love your music. Bring that Tour this direction because they want to see & hear you! God Bless You!
Not too often does an Artist cover another Artist's song... and outdo them. Great band backing him. These Cats are Smokin'. Glen nailed it on this one! +10, Thank you for the post!
I'm a fan of both Glen Campbell and Green Day - this isn't the first time I've listened to this version but today it gave me goose bumps. Been listening to lots of Glen the last few days whilst work on college assignments and I count my blessings that I as lucky enough to see him perform in Nottingham UK on his last visit there.
Beautiful, Glen! I've loved your music since I was child. As a Canadian, I'm glad to have shared the same continent with you, sir! You're an American great!
Glen got me thru the 70s when rock & roll started getting dark. He was a bright & shining light He didn't just sing about the things of life, he lived it. and his music is moving thru him even in his senior years. Glen, if you read this I thank you for saving my life. your songs lifted me up when I was down many times.God Bless you.and don't stop writing!you soul still has expression, let it out!
Like so much of his work, this is brilliant. No matter what the future holds, Glen has left us with three lifetimes of memories and incredible work. He is a gift.
It's hard to imagine a more superlative musician than Glen Campbell. His excellence as a guitar player and singer reveal a depth that transcends regular music biz fame. God bless you Glen.
He's as handsome now as ever.Wish he would be more in the public eye.Miss seeing and listening to him sing.We need a good country music variety show.Hey Glenn one like the one you had.It was awesome!!
What a pleasure it is to see "youngsters" who might never have even heard of Glen Campbell, and who might be Green Day fans, appreciate this eminently creative and enjoyable version of the original song. Personally, I'm not a fan of most "covers", but I, too, recognize that this is a brilliant interpretation that occupies a fine middle ground between hard rock, pop & country. That is to neither put down the original nor to even compare it to this version. Both original and cover have their own merits and it is not for us to judge one against the other, nor is it, somehow, disrespectful or disloyal to Green Day to acknowledge a well-done cover of the original...but rather to enjoy what each version has to offer. In addition, as others have noted...for those who've never heard of Glen Campbell...he was considered one of the best guitarists in history, having backed up literally hundreds of famous performers in the studio. And, while he did not play in this performance, Mr. Campbell's timing and pitch are "spot on" in this performance and no apology for the quality of his performance, at about 72 years old, is necessary or appropriate.
I have so much respect for Glen Campbell. He's had his ups and downs but nobody can ever say anything but good things about the music he makes. I like everything he has ever done. I think I saw John McFee back there in the background. What great musicianship in this song and Glen's vocal was made for this.
thats great that he still had an open mind to listen to younger bands and appreciate what theyve done!! great version to!!! god bless ya glenn and god,s speed on your journey!!!! PEACE!!!
I seen a recent Glen Campbell concert and he was amazing. He took his guitar and put it behind his head, and played it faster than some seasoned guitar players could play it holding it normally! He really is an amazing talent, I hope he stays around for years to come. Thanks for posting this video!
I have had the good fortune to shake Glen Campbell's hand, just last year, as far as I am concerned, he has earned his "Legend" status.(and then some) Love this version of this song.
I loved watching the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour as a kid (on the family's black and white TV of course) and I love Green Day's music. Good job, Mr. Campbell!
So many great songs, so much music. A lot of us have gown old with you my friend. Thank you for your music and your memories. God's speed in your next journey.
I grew up in the 60s and early 70s and listened mostly to rock. However, I always loved this singer. His songs had such meaning. It's so sad to know that he won't be performing anymore.
Just got the Meet Glen Campbell album...played it once, liked it...played it twice.....LOVED IT! Great voice, great guitar licks...very thoughtful assortment of tracks....hope I get to see him perform again.
I grew up listening to Glen Campbell music. Its sad his health is failing now but I hope he knows before his time has come that his music is very appreciated by millions of people.
A great example of someone that knew how to have the time of his life. Life is a beautiful Thing my friends. The rainy season has started so get ready to get wet every once in a while.
I was not expecting that to be awesome. As a matter of fact, I was prepared to be disappointed but that blew me away. I'm not a country fan but I have fond memories of Watching Glen on his variety show way back in the day. He always seemed like a decent dude.
Just discovered this CD today!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE his version of this wonderful song! God Bles you Glen, and thanks for making some wonderufl music over the years!
wow, 6 years ago? how did I miss this one? just proves a good song is a good song... and Glen Campbell was a great performer before Alzheimer's robbed him... he is in a memory-care facility near their Nashville now... wish I was close enough to visit... this was good video, thanks for posting... yep and Amen.
why would anyone say any thing negative. Was not ever a real hard fan of his but never had any thing against him either. great song, great voice and God Bless him and his falily
The fact that Glen is still universally loved long after his peak is proof enough he is one of the most loved entertainers of all time, even after thousands of singers from the same time period have faded into dust.
One of my very favourite artist , a brilliant vocalist in his prime plus a brilliant guitarist ex session musician can still do a song justice as thisclip proves , but very sad to hear he is now suffering from that horrible ailment Alzheimers Disease and announced he will be making a farewell tour god bless you Glen and thanks for all the great music and guitar playing you have given us,
1) GOOD FOR YOU!!! Trolls should be deleted. 2) I believe Glen Campbell knew that he had Alzheimer's at this point, making the song particularly poignant. Listening to the song with those ears makes it so much more powerful. Thanks for posting.
He was always spot on perfect. Always. What a great talent and what a painful loss now that he's gone. His voice will always be with those of us who know his music.
Are you KIDDING me?? This is incredible!! Glen is still crossing over his work, and he never sounds out of element. Count me as both a Glen Campbell and Green Day fan.
Rest in peace, Rhinestone Cowboy...I hope you had the time of your life. Thank you for being a part of my memorable childhood.
Glen Campbell is not only an amazing musician, he is a true hero as he conducts his final tour, openly allowing discussions regarding Alzheimer's disease and his recent diagnosis. Glen Campbell regognizes a great song when he hears it. Nice to hear him, and his daughter interpret this gem.
RIP Glen Campbell. This is a great version of the classic Green Day song that takes on an entirely new poignant meaning today. Will miss you.
Great talent known for his hit songs one right after another. His guitar playing was excellent too. He passed away today August 8th 2017, at 81 years old. For the young people seeing this post this guy in his day was a big time talent.
Glen Campbell and "negative" don't ever belong in the same sentence. I love this!
What a pleasant surprise this is. Who would have thought Glen Campbell would sing Green Day. How could anyone not like this.
I am a Green Day, Foo Fighters and Glen Campbell fan. Glen just demonstrates that for truly talented people such as himself, it really doesn't matter the genre of music. Who would ever say anything bad about Glen....HE IS A LEGEND !!! One day we will sadly miss him.
Glen Campbell's interpretive ability is extraordinary. Never overplayed. Always right on the mark.
Nice cover Glen.
Have had the pleasure to meet Glen in the flesh, backstage in Glasgow, What a nice, genuine guy. He sang this that night too, I love it!
Almost sounds like something Campbell would have written. The best compliment a song writer can get. They share part of the same spirit.
Way to go, Mr Campbell. Welcome back....er...you never left.
It's not a competition. This isn't better, or greater than the original, it's just different. It's strong and solid.
Negative comments?? How could anyone knock Glen Campbell? This is excellent!
MartinBlanford Sempurna, perfect.
I LOVE THIS!! Glen singing Greenday?? gotta love him..RIP
Outstanding song, outstanding version. Can't say I'm a glen Campbell fan but have to say he nailed this song

I cannot get over how this song appears to fit Glen Campbell’s poignant circumstance at this specific moment in this exact time.
A national treasure. He's seen me through some hard times and good times. I'll always love him. A great artist.
Why would I leave a negative comment about this little bit of wonderful? Great song, great delivery!
Here's another "old fart" who listened to Glen Campbell, & still enjoy hearing him.

Thank you for your version Glen Cambell ! !
R.I.P. Glen Travis Campbell (April 22, 1936 - August 8, 2017)
Huh. Green Day fan here... I definitely wasn't expecting this. Country's not my favorite genre, this is an interesting cover.
+Kori Biggs You should really check out the Bluegrass tribute to Green Day. It's amazing. I haven't checked, but I'd imagine those tracks are easily findable here on youtube.
Same. It was damn good.
Now Green Day needs to do a Glen Campbell cover.
Kori Biggs I was thinking the same thing!!!
Kori Biggs He didn't try to make it his song like a lot of artist do to other artist. He did an amazing cover.
I remember "The Glen Campbell Show" when I was a kid in the 70's and have always liked his music. I have always been a fan of music, especially rock. Billy Joe is great and Green Day, too. Glen has traveled a bumpy road but how can you argue with his voice or guitar or the message he sends in his music.
Probably one of the best muscians of the 20th century - from backing up the Beach Boys - to out on his own - Campbell as a true performer - and an amazing talent on the guitar!!!
Our Glen. Still knocking it out of the ballpark at age 72.
Saw Glen and met him in Windsor Ont. He was gracious and humble and brought tears to this sentimental old fools eyes. :)
His impact on the music scene has been phenomenal. God bless you Glen Campbell.
James P Duvall Sr can't believe he's gone..
Rock, country pop and classic...They are all there with Mr Campbell. Thanks for all the great sounds Glen. Get well, please.
Wow! This is what the song must have been written for. An old man isn't supposed to cry like this just from hearing a song.
It's sad that Glen is suffering from Alzheimer's. What's heroic about it is that he knows and is fighting to get one more album out and tour once more before it takes him. I was never much of a fan of his but I can't think of anything that is at once as heartbreaking and truly courageous. God bless him.
Great to know that Glen still has that great voice. What a fabulous range he has. Great, as ever!
superbly delivered by a man with enough under the bridge and on the clock, in reflective and celebratory mode. really refreshing
Glenn Campbell nailed this 100% Think i heard he's retired due to ill health. What ever his long term prognosis is, I wish him well an love listening to his songs
Thank you for all the years of great songs you have shared with the world...I love you, Glen!
I never thought myself a country western fan, but I must say...this was a GREAT cover. Glen Campbell, you nailed this.
BUT LORD I THANKYOU FOR CREATING THIS MAN..
A legend!! My parents played his songs when I was a child..his voice has lingered on and on in my life..
Thank YOU, for letting us all share the ride.
I just love Glen Campbell. Such a talented performer.
Such a great performer...played his 'Hand that Rocks the Cradle' at my mother's funeral. His song ;Let Me Be a Little Kinder' is my favorite Christian-oriented song of his. He has touched many lives with his music and his performances will be missed. May God be with him and his family.
fuck, that was actually really good.
He looks like the kind of guy that lives life to the fullest no matter how old he is
This is one man who knows a good song when he finds it. A touching and uniquely executed cover - I love it.
He was my granfather's favourite singer, he passed away 2 years ago.. and my sister did a skydive for bowel cancer, and they dubbed 'Time of your life' over the dvd. This is just a perfect reminder of him. Glen Campell, you are underapreciated.
You were one of the best Glen. A genuine talent and a genuinely good bloke
One of my favorite entertainers of all time. Great voice, wonderful timeless songs.
God bless you as you fight this horrible disease.
Just saw him live last night for the very first time. I remember my parents playing his music when I was VERY YOUNG. His show was AMAZING --he played FOO FIGHTERS last night! G.C. RAWKS! I hope I get to see him live again, because I'd SO GO without hesitation!

This is a super song, the musicians definitely know what they are doing.
Glen has always been one of my favorites.

Glen, you contributed to many of the good times in my life with your music - in backyard BBQs, camping, in Vegas, and the list goes on. GB!
It's hard to imagine a more superlative musician than Glen Campbell. His excellence as a guitar player and singer reveal a depth that transcends regular music biz fame. God bless you Glen.
Wow! Brilliant to see a fave singer and musician from my distant past still kickin' ass and takin' names!
Way to go, Glen!
Glen still has a magic voice. Fantastic clip - thanks for posting this.
He's as handsome now as ever.Wish he would be more in the public eye.Miss seeing and listening to him sing.We need a good country music variety show.Hey Glenn one like the one you had.It was awesome!!
One of the all time great guitar players. Great to have you back Glen. I hope you can find peace
I could just sit here and watch Glen Campbell videos all night. Love it! Would love to hear him do "Danny Boy" again.

Go Glen GO!!! I grew up with this man's music and guitar playing thanks to my Mom & Dad.
I've got more respect for Glen and what he's been able to accomplish musically in his life than most all of em out there. God bless you Glen.
i find it great that someone like glen cambell actually appreciated an artist like green day enough to cover themselves. it's freakin awesome.
I seen a recent Glen Campbell concert and he was amazing. He took his guitar and put it behind his head, and played it faster than some seasoned guitar players could play it holding it normally! He really is an amazing talent, I hope he stays around for years to come. Thanks for posting this video!
I have had the good fortune to shake Glen Campbell's hand, just last year, as far as I am concerned, he has earned his "Legend" status.(and then some)
Love this version of this song.
Not usually a fan of country music, but Mr. Campbell's voice and musicianship is classic and can't be beat, and so sorely missing in today's music.
i dont know how he has managed to own one of green days' signature songs, but he has perfectly. just freaking brilliant
I loved watching the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour as a kid (on the family's black and white TV of course) and I love Green Day's music. Good job, Mr. Campbell!

He has spent his life interpreting other writers songs so I don,t know why I was so surprised and impressed but I was. Well done Mr. Campbell. Peace
I grew up listening to Glen Campbell music. Its sad his health is failing now but I hope he knows before his time has come that his music is very appreciated by millions of people.

what a great song. TRUE GRIT. hey GLEN CAMPBELL, loved your show. totally awesome. sunday night 9 pm eastern. have a great 2011.

This IS the best cover of that song that i've ever heard. i can't find words for it. AMAZING!
