You say patina, I say just plain butt ugly. People are taking the patina crap too far. Love the truck. Have fun, looking forward to seeing it fixed up.
A sweet 55. To fix the rust, replace the missing metal will go a long way in soothing those other vehicles you've stumbled upon. Glass with new rubber seals. Look into mid sixties seats (buckets). When you go to replace the frame/body bushings, cleaning and painting the frame will once again give you peace of mind in moving forwards into areas that will make it ride better and to encourage your sweethearts wanting to drive it. Good luck in finding what you need and want. I'll be watching🤠
If you get that fuel tank out of the cab and put one under the bed, cut out that fuel door setup on the side of the bed of that 2500, and weld it into the front or back of one of the '55's fenders. I'm encountering that challenge now on my '55 project. You can buy replacement fuel doors all day, but what it bolts to, and the contoured setup that the door closes into has to be cut out of a more modern fender. A square one from the 70's or 80's would look the best though. Good luck with your project. That Vortec is gonna Rock!!! 😎
Seems like a cool project. I thought finding a small block in the U.S shouldn´t be a problem, but the donor LS does obviously deliver more power and better fuel milage, than an old carby engine. Unfortunately over the pond here, we do not get trucks like this red one for cheap. So we are stuck, with whats available on marketplace, since shipping from overseas has sky rocketed...Good luck with the build. Looking forward to the next episode.
Love the old Chevy trucks , don't see many here in OZ , if so they're big $$$ show trucks , You got a very cool looking truck mate and looking forward to the build , hopefully soon, Cheers 👍🇭🇲
I know this is a late reply but it appears that the upper section of the cab is completely rotted out from the inside out between the steel.panels above the back glass as well as above the windshield. Also the upper door pillars look to be rusted out on the inside where you can't access it. This is likely too extensive to repair with aftermarket patch panels but a donor cab would be ideal and an experienced metal fabricator could save this cab. The bottom of the cab can be repaired with readily available patch panels. Another thing I noticed is the stainless steel VIN tag is missing. I suspect a previous owner used the truck asva VIN tag donor due to the fact that the entire upper section of the cab is completely rotted out and will require more work and money than is feasible. The previous owner sold the truck with this in mind. Not impossible but definitely for an extremely ambitious and motivated truck lover. The most important aspect of any classic truck is the cab and specifically the upper section of the cab around the windshield, door pillars and inaccessible body seams!!! If these sections are rotted out either pass on the truck or plan to spend a ton of time, expertise and money to repair it.
I'm sure you could part out the donor ,it looks like it still has some good stuff . That surfer gas pedal is pretty collectible ,I don't know about that customized steering wheel ,though . Cool project , how does your wife feel about "patina" ?
Hey, I’m the wife! I’m a pretty big fan of the patina look and I love the patina on this truck. I can’t wait to really get started on this project and see where it takes us!
@@samanthamachnik21 Hey the wife , I'm sure the husband would drive it like that , I the commentor could drive it like that ,for a while . I could see it though , in a satin paint (your favorite color ,of course) . Nice choice with the LS ,p/s ,p/b ,a/c and auto . Cool truck . I had a 56 GMC , 389 h/d 4 spd .
A satin paint job is definitely possible somewhere down the line but for now I’m just really loving the patina on this truck. But who knows what the future will bring!
We will definitely be selling any good usable parts off the donor truck to recoup some funds to put right back into the 55. I’m hopping to break even on the cost of the donor.
My uncle past oway a couple of months ago, he left me a Chevy truck just like this one in this video, he hald bought it for $1000 buck's from this older man back in the 90s here in California, this Chevy truck has no rust at all , it's Ben setting in our garage for years ,I'm in the thought of saleying it or bring it back to life. Not to sure
Should be good build, plenty of sheet metal work to do but a solid truck to start with. The LS swap and suspension and steering, brake upgrades will make it nice to drive, my junker 55 truck is just about done, its a old retired guy budget build not near as modern as your plans make yours. 💯🆒
What a wreck. Here's my advice. Leave the chassis and engine alone because they are going to the dump. leave the cab on there just to fix all that damned metal!! That should take you a couple of years. gently blast it with something, even sand if you go easy on it not to warp the metal. Once the body is done, firewall smoothed, then work on the inside, primer it or even paint it. Then junk the donor vehicle body, keep the engine trans, chassis, power brakes and steering, column, everything you can, gas tank, exhaust, then you just build new body mounts for the cab, radiator core and new bed kit you bought and throw the 55's cab and bed on it. re wire it with a painless fuse box, paint it if you didn't, new weatherstripping, glass interior, Champion aluminum radiator, etc etc. I dont know why you would want to F with a mustang 2 and ford rear end when the donor vehicle has all that S. These trucks only need one new part: a new chassis. i myself, put my truck on a 79 4x4 chassis. factory sbc probably shy of 300. I've been there done this but you have a few peeps who want to see this build. I hope you can weld.
Check out Classic Truck Rescue UA-cam, great scorse for affordable original replacement parts salvaged from the trucks he saves. He is also a wealth of information for the Chevrolet Task Force model
The 1955 big back chevy trucks are the best of the best. Definitely worth restoring.
We love the look of this truck and who knows in the future it may end up with some new paint

Wife got good taste! 😎👍
She wants it done yesterday!
I have the same truck with a factory 6 inline 235 Engine. Big window, long bed. It is a beautiful truck.
Sounds like a sweet rig!
I look forward to seeing this project unfold......well done.. subbed
We will be starting on it very soon!

Looking forward to watching the rebuild. Your wife's definitely a keeper.
Wow nice build series
Looking forward to your progress
We can’t wait to get started!
I love your optimism. Reminds me of my first "walk-around" video of my 47 GMC.
Thanks for checking it out. Can’t wait to get started on this project!
That’s going to be sweet. I’m doing a similar 55 truck build for my wife
I bet she is excited
It would be awesome seeing you fix this old beauty up for your wife! 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻

I haven’t given much thought to a fuel tank yet. Thanks for the advise!
One thing I will say you're right about ,
A bear foot gas pedal dose show its a hot rod cause I have one in me 89 3cly Geo Metro.
😄
I could think of no better place for one than a Geo Metro.
Damn, will be cool
hey man Great channel you got here! and nice project truck!
Thank you!
Congratulations on your new truck, i subscribed to the channel, i have a 53 5 window, and a 55 2nd series big window, catch you on the next one
Thanks for the sub!

Finding them isn’t really an issue. The problem is they seem to be worth their weight in gold.

Hey, thanks for watching! We’re excited to get started on this project and see where it ends up!
Endless possibilities could be tough she could be real tough
It’s hard to know where to stop sometimes
Hold on to that hood ornament they are worth some money.
It’s not in very good shape unfortunately.
I just took a 55 big window on trade for some side work. Not in as good of shape as yours but it’s buildable into something.
I love these trucks. Has curves in all the right places. Are you planning to build yours?
Iam starting to shop around for a few better body parts and use as much stuff here and shoot for a two lane blacktop truck kinda thing.
Sounds like a solid plan
Nice truck! I have a 1957 chevy truck. But i also have 2 1956 GMC cabs that i need to sell no doors.
A 283 would make a nice daily driver.
Thank you for the suggestion.

It is crusty but I’m going to save it. I do have to vin plate from this cab. Check out the other build videos on this 55!
1972, 350 4bbl. 250 hp, at the flywheel. 1974 350, 4bbl 175, at the rear wheel.

Solid rot vs regular rot
We’ve got both!
Big window cost more they wouldn’t want too buy it in each corner once’s you finish the project
Fix that 6 cilinder up. They will run forever and are far more economic to drive. They are torkey.
you really need, NEED, a microphone.
I am working on getting a mic. Technology is not my strong suit and I appreciate the feedback.

When you change the chasis from the 55 chevy to another newer chasis its not a 1955 classic anymore.😅 😅😅😅😅
