I met Roger in 1977 at a fund raiser for Special Olympics. I spent more than an hour visiting him. He was awesome, just a regular guy. When I told him I named my son Roger in 1973 he wrote the 6 year old a personal note.
I have no memory that Roger wasn't my #1 sports hero. It is really nice to see him succeed off the field as well. I've heard his family is the same class act he is and that speaks well of him and Marianne.
Thought a bit about commenting on this video. I grew up in Silverton, Ohio. A suburb of Cincinnati. We lived across the street fro the Staubachs' Rogers parents were both kind and generous people. That surely rubbed off on Roger. Rogers dad, Bob, would ride down the street coming from work and always wave to the kids outside playing. I was in the hospital for quite a long time in 1964. Roger and his mom came to see me. I will never forget that. They were good Christians. Rogers dad went to heaven before Roger won the Superbowl...bit I'm sure he was sitting in the stands during the game!
He was without a doubt a mans man. 99% of fathers would be satisfied and breath a sigh of relief if their daughter told them they met a guy and he was identical to Staubach (that 1% wouldn't be able to get over their hatred for the cowboys even if it meant their daughter married a bum).. what more could you ask for, a graduate, served his country, played professional sports, whole heartedly believed in monogamy, successful in business, and a family man... damn after saying all of that, if I ever get married im definitely going to be disappointing someone's father
He's been a hero of mine since the early 70's and remains so to this day.

600 million dollar man. Earned every penny.
Hope to meet Roger or a member of his family in our many family travels to Dallas! A family man!
