I’ve been trying to decide upon what porosity my hair was but I wasn’t ALL that committed to figuring it out and idk what it is that like opened my eyes and today I discovered I have low porosity hair! I’ve been doing EVERYTHING SO WRONG! Cold water rinses, heavy oils, not deep conditioning w/ heat🤮

    Hey Lydia,
    I have a few questions.
    I am a Afro Latina female with 3c4a low porosity hair. I use to be a big natural hair enthusiast and I still am but lately I just don’t understand my hair. I think the colder months brings out the worst in my hair but then again my hair is natural very dry and needs CONSTANT detangling and moisture to keep it alive but I don’t always have the time. This leads me to my questions.
    1 - how do you wear your hair at night to keep it from moving around and getting too tangled among itself?
    2 - what is the best moisturizer you’d recommend for my hair type?
    3 - what is the best method for my hair type (e.g. LOC and LCO)
    4- should I be using coconut oil in my hair if I have low porosity? I really do feel like my hair loves coconut oil but maybe if I try cutting it out of my routine for a while I can see if there’s a difference
    5 - I struggle with frizzy hair like super frizzy undefined hair. What is the best product and tip you could give for defined curls?
    ---
    I’m so sorry if this is too many questions in one comment but I really want help with my hair and I trust you more than anyone else tbh and I’m desperate to help my hair :(

    • @LydiaTefera

      Hey! I’d first suggest you see a curly hair specialist/stylist because it’ll be best for them to see your hair and the overall health/texture/density of your hair
      But over I’d say the following based on my own experience
      1- I tie it up in a satin scarf, I have a video from December where I show it
      2- moisturized can be tricky simply cause products don’t always behave the same for everyone but I like the Eden bodyworks almond marshmallow hydration serum or anything that is silicone free
      3- it really depends on your hair and the products you use! I usually just use a curly gelly and call it a day or sometimes pair a curling jelly with a lighter weight leave in
      4 - I’m not a big fan of coconut oil simply cause of the smell so I don’t use coconut oil on its on it my hair.
      5 - biggest time would be to apply your products to SOAKING WET hair and working in small sections at a time.
      Hope that helps!

    🧡 okkkk so I thought I was crazy because my hair actually likes warm water wayyyy better than cold water 🙂 the Shea moisture low porosity line is like the only line that doesn’t dry my hair out from Shea moisture and I love it sooo much I wish they had a bigger bottle for the conditioner tho 🧡🧡🧡🧡

    Thank you. I’ve been washing my hair in cold water ever since a beautician told me it would be best. I’ve recently wanted to go back to warm but was afraid. You just confirmed it. I’ve had a lot of hair breakage and loss. I am using Dr Shapiro as a last resort to help it grow. Do you know if this product is good for low porosity hair? I can’t find the answer. Thanks for the tips.

    Thanks for these tips in this and the other video. I still think I'm either a medium porosity or just have different types all over my head. As I've done the float test a time or two and even though I've waited past the 2 to 4 mins. My strand of hair was still chilling on the surface of the water. Just barely dipping underneath it. And I don't have any real difficulty retaining moisture when I use heavier oils or creams like you mentioned. And yet as I also mentioned before using products with Olive Oil and protein at once, can totally dry my hair out. So really confused and not sure on any of that.
    And this is a slightly dumb question. But as I've never used it before(with so many other products I have now and am still learning about), but could you possibly do a video on explaining the proper way in which to use shea butter. I mean, I've found some where I work, but it doesn't really say much in regards as to what to do with it. And it's not really a styling butter. Just raw, unscented shea butter that can be used for skin or hair. But I'm not sure if I should mix in a styling gel with it to use it on twists or how to work with it, if it has no styling component to it.

    • @LydiaTefera
      @LydiaTefera  5 років тому

      Oh I don’t typically use Shea butter so I’m not the most knowledgeable/helpful when it comes to giving information about it

    • @cheralewhite8253
      @cheralewhite8253 5 років тому +1

      No probs. I actually looked up some ways to use it after asking you. Sounds like it is really good for helping with frizz as well as adding moisture too. Just I may have to mix it a little bit with some curl defining cream, to give my curls a bit more pop. But otherwise than that, I think I got it.

    Which do you prefer, the SM JBCO shampoo or the Protein-free one? (Assuming you’ve tried both)

    • @LydiaTefera
      @LydiaTefera  5 років тому

      Depends on what my hair needs at the time. If I’ve had a protein overload than I go for the protein free one (plus it has a minty feeling) but they’re both great. It’s just a matter of if you need or want some protein or no protein.

    What oil can I use instead of castor oil? I was using it for hair thickness but I don’t think almond, grape seed, or jojoba helps with that.
