    1. use sulfates x1/2 a month to clarify product build up
    2. use heat when styling
    3. use water based moisturizers/ leave ins
    4. use light oils, grape seed, almond oil etc.
    5. apply product on damp not soaking wet hair
    6. alternate using leave ins with hair milks/moisturizers

Newest hair hack.. I like heavy butters and creams, but sometimes the butter doesn't have water as the first ingredient so it's hard to get into my low porosity strands.. I add hot water to the product and stir it together until I get more of a creamy consistency then it works great. So I can order butters that I can add water to bc I get more product. I also normally put my leave in and moisturizer on then wear a plastic cap for like an hour or 2 or overnight and come back to add my gel or whatever later.

Yeah girl I was just thinking like what if I made water the first ingredient and viola I get more product and I don't have to give it away.. it works wonders bc you can make it as thick or as thin as you like

I have low porosity, high-density hair. Mostly 4a/4b with a few 3c strands. My hair hack is buying a "handheld clothes steamer" from Walmart it was only $13! I detangle before washing with the steam and oil and apply products after washing while under the steam. I just set it down in front of me, and work the products through my hair. My oil mixture is mostly olive oil, then grapeseed oil, then a little JBCO. But I feel like the heavy oils don't bother my hair because of the steam.

Yes Steam , I learn from Mo knows Hair, I have been steaming my hair for a year and man amazing!!! And while I style with warm water and I do not rinse on cool always warm because low p.o. hair will seal itself along with your products you need your cuticle open to penetrate your styling products. Lov the videos, try avocado oil😙😙😙!!!

Thanku SO much for this video! 8 years natural and i'm still not quite there yet, but i've certainly learnt A LOT on the way! I have extremely low porosity thick tight coils, and today just realised that my coils always look the best and juicy when i apply my watery Faith in Nature 'pre-poo conditioner on my dirty hair before i start washing. 😑 i put a plastic cap on it for probably 30-6o mins whilst i'm preparing my deep conditioner and such and whenever i take the cap off my curls are glorious! 😍 So from next wash day i"ll give it a try when styling. Thank you for sharing.

I agree with @miaalexander. Most of my hair is low porosity and steam is my very best friend. I leave my steamer on blowing in the direction of the section I'm working on. I've also learned that some of my deep conditioners work better with steam verses sitting under a dryer. Example SM superfruit, honey and maruka, (ESPECIALLY) raw shea butter. I also do not do a final cold rinse. Why would I want to close the cuticle before properly moisturizing? As far as sulfates….I will continue to stay away but more importantly silicones. I love the slip but not always the way my hair feels after SOME silicones. It's important to do research and pay attention to product ingredients and how your hair responds. No one has the same mane :+)
**** I love that you did this video. It educates and encourages everyone to do their research.

This was sooooooooooo helpful. Thank you so much! Have to every tried clay masks for cleansing your scalp instead of shampoo? I've come to realize my hair LOVES bentonite clay. Depending on the recipe the wash is great for gentle clarification, softens, and conditions.
With your hair characteristics it really made me think she realize I probably have some high porosity in the front. I wondered why my hair was sooooooooooo different all over 🙄! Makes sense though.
This video was helpful and have subscribed 😍!
    Cheers 🌹

All true!!! I’ve been natural almost 7 years and hit a major growth plateau around year 4. I didn’t realize I had lo-po hair and had product buildup and didn’t even know it 💀. Definitely shampoo with sulfates 2x month, ditch silicones for the most part and use heat when deep conditioning!

  • @TheCurlyFitChicOriginal
    @TheCurlyFitChicOriginal 7 років тому +2

Fantastic video! Now other low porosity hair people may find something that also works for them. Wow...the only thing I do specifically for my low porosity hair is deep condition with heat (steamer gets better results for me and dryer) and wash and rinse with warm water. Also, if I don't need to immediately leave the house, I will sit under the dryer with my head upside down and dry on low heat so I don't lose volume. When my hair was high porosity (when I had color) and now that it is low. The basics stayed the same. Only using products that have the first ingredient of water and only using jojoba, argan and carrot seed oils (my hair hates all other oils). I figured out I was protein sensitive once the "natural hair" movement started and I changed my products because that community was saying what products were good for "natural" hair and I tried them. Well, they were crap for my hair. Lesson learned. Anyway, who knew that what I was already doing could possibly help people with low porosity hair as well. One thing I will say is I don't get the whole olive oil trend. I tried that once and I literally thought my hair was going to fall out it was so dry and brittle! lol

OMG! I found someone like me 😭
I have 3 curl patterns, majority is 3B, and 2 locks of 3C framing my face, with few locks of 3A right at the bottom in the back o my head.
I have two different porosities, normal porosity pretty much all over my head, except the face framing locks, they are high porosity. Also, all my hair ranges from medium thickness to coarse, except for my face framing locks, they are pretty fine.
I have 3 textures, 2 porosities, and 3 variations of thickness.
We are almost hair sisters haha.
Love you by the way ❤

Wow, FINALLY!! I have not been able to find ANYONE with the same experience of multiple hair porosity and hair type as well as me!!! I am Low Porosity between 3b-3c-4a. I always cut my hair too because as it leaves the 2-3inch stage my ends begin to go from kinky curly tights to wavy. I have big chopped at least 5 times within a 1 year process clearly that means its only reached 4-5 inches.

From ears going bk is my super low porosity most wavy/curly hair, and from ears to front is my normal to high porosity S pattern hair. Only thing is I'm recovering from heat damage :( but I'm 5 mths in on wrkn on that. Love your videos btw!!

On wash day after I deep condition, I add tresemme botanique nourish and replenish conditioner in the shower. The steam from the shower lets the conditioner penetrate my hair. I don't rinse the tresemme all the way out. I like to leave some in. I add a mixture of jojoba Oil and a little bit of Castor Oil, put a micro fiber towel on, and then add my gel. This has been working for me because I don't need to add a lot of products to my hair.

Man I think i may have posted a long version of this right here: For my on my hair journey I struggled with max hydration and I began to learn the value of water and oil. Long story short me being a low porosity natural I simply had to adjust. And that's what it mean to be a low porosity natural, gives me hope seeing there's others with hair like mines.

My texture is more so "4B." it's tightly curled, and super dry. I have fine strands and super low porosity hair. I've been using light oils, and heat when styling (twist out)/ deep condi./ hot oil. I can get the moisture in with heating caps..... It's just tedious doing it continuously bc my hair is naturally dry on top of low porosity

Another thing that I do kind of similar to what Jus gie said below is that I use warm water n my spray bottle to keep my cuticle open, add a little cream based leave in conditioner, pure vegetable glycerin, and a little aloe Vera juice. Not only does my hair stay moisturize, but it's the perfect refresher!
