Man super happy with this series, it’s been so cool to see you break these down. It really helps to get insight into thinking about composition and what makes a song flow well, or what breaks it. I hope this has been fun for you too!
🙏🙏🤘🤘
Excuse me? Stop doing that
@@ladesgracia7723 ?
@@obiwanjustpeekinginonya your name lol
@@ladesgracia7723 ahhh gotcha 😂
Besides other bands, you should also do "best songs" series. Such a cool sequence of videos to watch! Thanks, man!
Cheers from Brazil!
🤘🤘
i agree
God you have no idea how glad I am that you didn’t pick Escape for the final song lmao.
Lol
Escape is a jam!
Nice ending for the series. Loved this!
Here's a quick question: What are your thoughts on the S&M2 Versions of All Within my Hands and The unforgiven III?
S&M2 is all in all worse then S&M1 but these two songs were executed so well they definitely land in my top 20 metallica Songs now.
The newer version of All Within My Hands is definitely better than the St. Anger version.
@@cjdrummer28 100%. James singing is amazing on that version
Unforgiven III wpuld have been perfect if James was a good vocalist
@@BecomeTheKnight I thought he sounded great in that concert, I was there
@@JeffTheKiller000 I feel like his voice got a bit shit after the black album a lot of the raw power was gone with the exception of the original S&M although to be fair I am yet to check out S&M 2.
I am guilty of never having listened to either Load or Reload in their entirety. This series makes me wanna revisit them even if they have bad songs. Hell, I might do a discography revisit.
Been a long time since I’ve jammed Metallica. They deserve it
I usually select an album and take it on the road for work. I try to do one full album cover to cover by any one artist, usually fridays since it’s our slowest day.
Hell yeah
Imo Reload is better than Load just because of those first four tracks. Devil’s Dance is incredible.
Honestly, Load front to back is a really fucking good album. ReLoad less so, and definitely has some more filler in it, but it's still pretty solid.
@La Zona Oscura but you also get Low Man, Fixxxer, and Wild Things on it's back half. To me, Load is more consistent but I think Reload has higher highs and lower lows.
Really enjoyed the series! Each episode was equally insightful and funny. Hope you continue with this format in the future sometime!
🤘🤘
Not the pick I expected but very fair commentary! This one definitely didn't stick out to me too much. Thanks so much Mike for making this super badass and entertaining series! I'd love to see you do this with other bands, because this made a good March Break into a great one.
🙏🙏
This was actually really fun. I’ve enjoyed listening to your thoughts on 10 of your worst Metallica songs. I might not have agreed on a couple of them, I enjoyed every video in the series
I was thinking the same thing. also refreshing that Mike was willing to go against the grain and be true to himself, adding Harvester was ballsy. such a popular and beloved song by many, including myself.
@@shotaholic1 I agree. I think Harvester of Sorrow is awesome. The other one that I disagreed with was Metal Militia. I love that song, but it’s interesting to hear a different perspective on songs I like/dislike that people think the opposite of
@@FUTURESQUASH767 indeed, another’s perspective can be fun and interesting. which is why I liked this idea from somebody like Mike. also, it was great he didn’t just sit and shred apart any one album (ie St Anger or Load/Reload)
tbh, I actually always like Poor Twisted Me. it’s cool to hear things like the “missing shuffle” because it never caught my ears that way until he mentioned it.
Thank you 🙏
What a series! I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you for all of these videos the past 10 days, Mike!
this was a great series, would love to see you do something similar in the future!
🤘🤘
This was a great series.
I'm looking forward to seeing you do more series like this.
🤘🤘
Loving ur videos. I would love to see a similar series where you would focus on a band's greatest songs instead of the worst.
🤘🤘
This was a very cool series to watch, surprised at the picks AND the non-picks. Would be stoked to see other bands getting this treatment, we all love your input, Mike!
🤘🤘
Thank you, Mike!! Great series, really enjoyed it. I know it was a ton of work, but hopefully you’ll consider doing more. Maybe in the future you could do a single song from different bands - it might make it a little more interesting for you, not sure. Dream Theater perhaps? I think your video on The Alien sorta started that theme.
It has been a great series.
I like how in deep you get to the song structure and even though i may not always agree it's helpful to hear nuances i never got to actually notice before.
This was a great series to watch.
Good job as always.
Keep it up.
This was a fun series, thanks for doing it! Rock on, brother \m/
🙏
Thank you for this series Mike! Has been truly entertaining :))
🤘🤘
Yo Mike love this series and all your content. If you had to pick a favourite and least favourite of these 10 songs of the series which would you pick? Keep the content rolling, rock on dude.
Maybe End of the Line?
Thanks for giving me a solid series to watch and for getting me into Opeth thanks for the content as always Mike
Mike, this has been a very fun series to watch. In fact it has been causing me to go back to enjoy Metallica all over again (after listening to the ear cocaine known as dream theater). Thanks for the effort and time for posting these, I look forward to seeing this again!
Just wanted to say love the content and I think its funny that I started out not liking you bc of your nirvana video awhile back (I’ve grown out of that phase dw) but less than a week later I became an active viewer who enjoyed your vids thoroughly. You taught me to have a more open mind about other peoples opinions and to encourage discussions rather than just being angry at others. So I wanted to say thank you for that
That was a very entertaining series, keep it up!
Happy you liked it man 🤘
Overall, this was a really cool series! I think what I like about it is that this isn't merely a series talking about what you thought were the 10 objectively worst songs in Metallica's catalog. It's more of your own nuanced take on what you think are 10 of their worst songs and examining why those songs fall short while pointing things that do work based on your observations. When it comes to music composition, songwriting, production, or thinking about what I'm listening to, there's definitely a lot to gleen from the points you made in these videos. 👍
This was fun, I hope you do more of these
🤘🤘
Really enjoyed this series dude. You give a really balanced and intelligent analysis of some of these horror-shows of songs. As always, your humour hits my sweet spot. Thank you!
Ive always thought that the main riff sounds like "Spirit in the Sky". Its the very same. I was intrigued about the analysis here, and thought you raised some good points. This is an example of Hetfield's horey ol' blues impersonations not getting the results intended. The more gothic, eerie southern blues via Danzig vibes of "Until it Sleeps" is brilliant, as it has cool dynamics with a killer crunch in the chorus and spooky, eerie interludes. Metallica fan since the early 90s, and I really enjoyed this series, mate.
this was a great series! can't believe it's over already. your opinions were really interesting to hear. thank you for the amazing content as always man 🤘
🤘🤘
After hearing many songs again of the list, is amazing how much I don't know related to understanding music. I hear the instruments and voice and think oh cool, oh nice, oh hell no and so on, but it motivates me to read a little more and leave the first liking behind. Cheers again and thanks for the serie.
James Hetfield was my first big metal icon. Metallica was the first metal band I deep dove into, and James to me was everything a metal musician should be. As a partial country and hard rock fan myself, seeing him add some twang and grungey hard rock stuff to the 90s albums was pretty sick. My point is with James, I understand he’s not always the most technically impressive vocalist, and he’s not always the best guitarist, and he’s not always the best songwriter, but goddamn when he’s good he’s fucking good. Of course the late 80s and early 90s were his peak when it came to being a fucking beast but even into the 90s he really poured his soul out into Load and Reload and gave us some of Metallica’s most emotional and vulnerable tracks that kick ass (fixxxer, bleeding me, etc.) and his vocals became this great blend of harsh growls and soulful belts (S&M). And even his low points, I still find love in it due to him always giving it 110%. “He’s not the best metal musician but dammit he’s my metal musician” kinda thing.
I loved your input on the drum parts throughout the series because I’m in the middle of writing my drum parts for my thrash metal band, and it’s always a challenge to write grooves that will perfectly complement the instrumentation as well as sounding creative. Technique is one thing to master but composing original music is a completely different and a more challenging world for me as a musician.
Listening to a diverse diet of music helps writing a lot
Love these videos man. I'd be down with a series where you just critique every Metallica song
Really enjoyed this series, Mike! I'd like to see more of these with The Beatles too, haha -
🤘🤘
Loved this series, sad because is the last video. Continue like this Mike :)
🙏🙏
Now that this series is finally done, what other Metallica songs do you consider Bad/mediocre? Curious to know your thoughts!
A number...
This was fun Mike! I think this was a really good time. I do have a question unrelated to the series though. Is there any way to watch the full recordings of the Song Suggestion Fridays after you've done the livestream? Sometimes I miss them and really which I hadn't lol (If it's due to copyright though I get it.) But yeah, great series! Hope to see more like this some time, the comments have been fun too. Rock on brother 🤘
I've really enjoyed hearing what you have had to say in this little series about these Metallica songs thus far. As someone who has come to try and appreciate most of the music Metallica has given us over the years, I don't agree with a number of the things you say but you usually bring up some good and insightful points. I'll be looking forward to whatever content you have planned next!
Keep doing what you're doing and never give up! Don't stop persevering \m/
🤘🤘🙏🙏
What a wild ride these past ten days. It's been fun! Hope the algorithm has been appeased to some extent too.
Loved this series. Great work, man!
Thanks man 🤘
This has been a really cool series, and it’s been cool seeing you show the not so great parts of Metallica. I hope you do more stuff like this in the future.
Wouldn't mind this set up and series for some other bands. Awesome stuff and have enjoyed this.
Awesome quick and concise videos. Thank you mike. What album would you say after the black album is your favorite?
S&M
Loved this series and honestly wish there was more, but I’m really surprised “Mama Said” the Metallica “country ballad” didn’t make the list, great vids as always man
Mama Said is actually a good song, despite being wildly out of Metallica’s comfort zone
It's a great composition
The studio recording doesn't do much for me, but there's a live version from Holland in 96 with just James and an acoustic guitar that I like a lot.
Poor Twisted Me is actually one of my favorites off Load. I love this song. The lyrics is relatable, too.
Man this Series has been fun thank you for the content and would you do this for bands like opeth and dream theatre.
🤘🤘
Awesome series, would like to see it done for other bands if possible
Great series! Every band has it's low points, and Metallica is no exception! Excited to see other bands you might do.
🤘🤘
Awesome series Mike! I wonder though if there is a song here that you find the most horrendous? And then the same for the least horrendous of the bunch?
Hey Mike I'm gonna miss this series so I hope we do another series like this :D
🤘🤘
All good things must come to an end. This series was hilarious well done Mike 🤘
Thanks man 🙏🙏
hey Mike, great series (from another Metallica fan) and was wondering if you might do this for all of the Big 4? best and worst
cheers man
No
@@BecomeTheKnight fair enough lol
Really liked this series keep the good work
🤘🤘🙏🙏
Great series! Love to see people be a little more critical, even about something they love
3:31 one thing I will give credit to, I do like this little voice distortion James did here. That sounds pretty neat.
You mean what he did naturally? Yes
@@BecomeTheKnight wait, that was natural? Thats really cool
This was such a good series Mike
I lack the resources to do so, but how cool would it be if someone were to borrow these videos as references and remix/re-do them to fit your ideal preference for each song? Also, love these series of videos. Would be highly interested to see if you make similar content on other bands in the future. Rock on, Mike. 🤘
**EDIT** originally typed this comment near the start of video, so if some points come across like I didn't watch the whole vid, then that's why. 🤘
Lol you're good
...and Thorn Within didn't make the list, and I'm happy.
But that aside, this series has been really fun to watch, and I found is especially fun to guess which song would be next and just being excited for the next day. And just generally someone breaking down some more obscure songs and not being just negative or positive, but a healthy mix of the two (although more negative because, well it's the worst songs) which was quite refreshing. Would be really cool to see more of this but from other bands!
The best things about this song is it being the namesake of the tours for Load and Reload (Poor Touring Me/Poor Retouring Me), I just find the names to be kinda cool
It's cheeky
This serie was fun man, new suscriber here 🤘🤘
Hey Mike love the series, just a thought but maybe if you do a series of bands you hate and do the 10 best songs from those bands in 10 days, just and idea :)
Ok
Hey man, this was a nice series.
I think there are some great songs on Load/Reload albums, but, in the same time, there are aafew songs that, bleah, you've talked about them this week.
I have a question now, since I'm a musician and I aspire to expanding my musical CPU, I want to get into Country and Bluegrass. Can you recommend some contemporary bands to me? Especially shredy bluegrass, but I won't mind on some country though.
Thank you so much!
You should do a series of Metallica’s best album cuts. They have songs that weren’t “hits” or released singles that are better than some of their more widely known songs. In fact, I’d love to see that kind of series on other bands as well. Anyway, great work!
Loved this series. I would love to see some different bands.
🤘🤘
Hey Mike love the series
Thanks man 🤘
@@BecomeTheKnight thanks for replying 🤘
I may just be the only one and fair enough if you’d find it annoying/repetitive but I would love for you to take a deep dive into each Metallica album and review them in detail ( or at least your favourite ones) Like I would love to see your opinions on the worst songs (in your opinion) from say the black album or master of puppets. Obviously none of those albums have a song bad enough to make the cut for the top 10 worst Metallica songs. In essence I just love any Metallica / Metal band related video you make and will love to see more. You rock man. Your POVs really are eye openers for me and help me out in general even after 6 years of playing the bass. Rock on bud🤘🏻also hi from canada
🙏🙏
Really enjoyed this series. Rock on Mike.
Hi are you planning on making a video about Steely Dan? A album tier list would be interesting
No
Love it dude, honnestly takes some balls to do this kind of content about a band as big as Metallica, u rock, keep soing what you're doing my man!!🤘🤘🤘
Thanks man
Another great video in this series. Again not also a huge fan of load and reload but also I can appreciate the stuff. Also this song is pretty good song overall
It could be worse
Mike, This is the first vid youtube has requested from you in forever. Guess I'm going to have to manually check from now on...
YEEUUUPPPP. UA-cam makes me mad dude
@@BecomeTheKnight I didn't realize it until you mentioned it. I normally manually pull them up, so I went back in my notifications. Nothing for over a year!!!
This series has been awesome!
From a purely business perspective doing these rapid fire videos is a good way to help the channel grow. Plus a lot of people apparently enjoy them. But I see where you’re coming from with wanting to produce longer videos with higher standards. It’s all about finding the right balance. Great series Mike, rock on🤘
I'm gonna try. Thanks man 🤘
I enjoyed this series a lot! I was glad to see songs like The End of The Line and this one in this along with other songs that isn't just Post-Justice material.
You should do more of these. Great for the algorithm👍
Metallica is usually good for the algorithm. Not sure how other ones would perform
No Invisible Kid? Huh. This was a cool series though; great job on all 10 of the videos!
Thanks man 🤘
Loved this series!!💯🤟🎸
Do another of this series!
Really dug the series man, you think it’s possible to see something like this but with the songs you find underrated?
Idk but I was expecting Slither to be here, it is actually my favorite from Reload, but people often call it the worst Metallica song
Invisible Kid was one I was expecting, but again I love that song
Is there any song that you were originally putting in here but you didn’t?
Now That We're Dead. I changed it at the very last minute
This was such a fun series to watch. Thank you for the content man.
Also, you've introduced me to bands that I've grown to love, such ad Opeth, Thank You Scientist, Dream Theater, to name a few. So Thank you so much for that also.
Also, out of curiosity, what would you say were some of the best live shows you've ever seen?
Leprous this past Thursday
Great job on the series. I don’t agree on everything but doesn’t matter. This channel is ear candy.
Damn you Mike!! You're making me revisit Metallica tracks I purposely erased from my memory !!
Lol!
What is a good guitar solo that can improve my playing technique wise? I have been playing for about a year and the hardest solos that I can play is master of puppets, mr Crowley and eruption.
Any of them. One that was incredibly helpful for me was Hotel California. Made me focus much harder on articulation
I'd love to see a similar series with other bands.
Dang, this series was way too short. So entertaining it felt like five videos. You'll have to do ten more.
Metallica, for me, was not just my intro into metal, but it was sort of a profound musical discovery. My first introduction to them was the black album, at least what I had heard on the radio as a kid, and it didn’t stand out in a way that piqued my interest. It was good music, but I was not really into music then at all.
Then I heard Master of Puppets. My cousin had the CD, and I popped it in and I was floored by the soundscape of the gentle Battery opening, followed by that badass riff. It was like a whole new universe had opened up in front of me; the idea that music can be both beautiful _and_ aggressive. It can be tender _and_ brutal. Conventional _and_ unique. I then went on to find all the rest of their stuff, which at the time was Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning, AJFA, and the Black Album. I loved them all (except Kill ‘Em All, sorry speed metal fanatics, I just can’t enjoy that album; other than the bass guitar, there isn’t a single ounce of meaningful melodic substance in that entire album).
But I fell in love, instantly, with the idea of beautiful melodies mixed with catchy riffs, aggression, and great hooks. Still, to this day, Master of Puppets sends chills down my spine. A credit to the producer, mixing engineer, and of course Cliff, who basically molded that melodic element into their identity.
This was a cool series, genuinely surprised there was nothing from Puppets or Ride the Lightning but I still loved hearing your feedback on all the songs
What would you consider the weakest song on ride the lighting and master of puppets? I guess I would pick the thing that should not be and escape but they are still good songs😁
Peter Molenaar I do agree with Escape since it was mostly written as a last addition to the album as a more radio-friendly song (Also one reason why James hates the song), and when I first heard Puppets all the way through I originally thought Leper Messiah was a bit of a “meh” song but it eventually warmed up to me
Great series. Would be great to see the best songs from a band you hate.
🤘🤘
are you going to do a vid about porcupine tree? I think u did said sth about video abouth them on Ig or twitter, and I was curious and I don't know what happened to the idea
I’d love to see what you would do with some slayer songs. They got loads of riffs, transitions, chaotic solos, not a lot of melody, you’d have a field day 😂
I can't with Slayer
@@BecomeTheKnight I figured, me personally I like the chaos and the middle finger to traditional songwriting that they have, but I don’t want to listen to Kerry King wank his whammy bar off ya know lol
This song sounds like something they would play on history channel during their commercial brakes
Lmfao
I'm actually sad that this is the last one... your really good at doing these and you actually don't do a lot of them like concentrating on reviewing music. your really good at it.
It's one of the weaker tracks on Load and I'm not huge into it but I still enjoy it for what it is. I do love that intro with the riff and the shuffle quite a bit. And also the shift into a faster tempo. That part is, like you said, how the whole song should've been.
One hell of a series 🤘😈🤘
🤘🤘
Can't believe it's already last song in this 10 songs in 10 days. Was really fun and interesting listening to these reviews. Hopefully this series helps you deal with problems UA-cam has forced to you!
Seems to have helped somewhat.
hell yeah, one of the first viewers!
anyways, love your content. and i hope you have a great day Mike
Thanks man 🤘
of course man
Do you plan on making a 10 worst metallica songs tier list? Or any honorable mentions for the worst metallica songs?🤘
Whenever I hear that opening riff I want to sing "going on up to the spirit in the sky"
Will you do this series with any other bands and which ones?
keep the uploads coming i love your shit
Thanks man 🤘
