Thank you for the teachings. I'm doing a deep maintenance ... I don't know if it will work again, on my 101ZD MK1. We can't find any more components for it (2sk / 3sk transistors, switches, relays for example), but let's try to get this old radio working again. Today I am reworking the counter plates PB-1979 and PB-1980. Soon I must go to the VFO too! 73´s
Hi Brenton, Hope all is well especially health wise, enjoyed your vfo tear down of the Yaesu. I have found that the gunk (brown crapp) they use to encapsulate and stabilise components ... over time actually becomes resistive... this causes all sorts of problems which can be difficult to pin down. A bunch of manufacturers ceased using it when they found the issue. Especially in a critical circuit VFO and around tube bypass caps. Can be disastrous. But I guess you already know that most others without your experience may not realise the trouble ageing can present... not just for we old farts but even youngsters like you Brenton.LOL.
Hi Brenton, just dug out my old 101ZD which used to work. perfectly the Preselect is now not working, it doesnt function as a slow motion drive now, the inner turns but the outer doesnt, is it likely to be any simple to look at, i can turn the outer if i move the perspex pointer but the inner doesnt turn when I do, any thoughts before I dive in.
Do you still have parts like this? Just bought a 3 model... Readout says 91.080 MHz no matter which band is chosen or vfo switch setting. Thanks for the training by the way
