  • So, 1 x brand new original transformer, new 2 x 6146b output valves 1 x 12by7a driver valve, 1x 1 ohm 2watt meter shunt resistor, 1 x new fm board and a heap of miscellaneous bits over the last 4 years. But she's finally problem free and working beautifully. I could never sell this one as it owes me more than my first car but a great bit of fun everytime I put it on the bench usually only to order more parts. I love the old girls, love them more when they result in such a great final solution like this one has. Always a bit of fun for sure cheers brenton vk3cm jdw229 pls subscribe and also feel free to join us on Facebook at Aussie Radio Pickers or vk ham sales and service anytime

    Hi Brenton, Thanks for the you tube of the Yaesu FT 101ZD Mk 3. Nice presentation of the work and labour of love you have spent on the transceiver. I have just managed to get my "foundation amateur radio licence." I am looking forward to many many years on the airwaves. Cheers and 73's.

    Beautiful! I know a guy who has one, his is not working right now, needs recapping and potentially faulty final tubes also. Will need going over thoroughly.

    great radios these, ive had a few over the years but have kept one that iv,e spent a lot of time on and re,capping the rec "b" and the important h.v. caps, if anyone has one of these and it,s blowing the 500m/a fuse on the back there,s a rectifier diode that goes "short" on the rec "b" panel, mine did, and the display fault where the numbers kept "flickering and changing" this is usually "dry joints"in the "vfo unit" removing this to service it is like "diffusing a bomb" but well worth doing, mine is an original mk3 also with the silver "bezels, and is in excellent condx! suffice to say, it,ll go to my grave with me, even though I have many "modern radios also, you won,t beat the rx quality on these treasured beauties!
    keep them alive , I still run mine,

    Hi Brenton, Very nice video! I have the same TRX (FT-277ZD from Sommerkamp). Please could you tell me what happens on the ALC Meter, Proc ON, when you are speaking in the microphone ? In my case, the deviation of the ALC Meter is very minimum. I don't know for the moment how to solve this issue....Do you have any idea ? In CW a can get about 100W output. Thanks a lot !! 73's. I do, in fact, I have a few and you will see them up for sale. I have a brand new TS820S line up still in the box that I have recapped, even though it was brand new, it was wise to recap. love the old TS820 and 830 series for sure, more videos to follow soon on those line ups...

    I've never had one on my bench with a bad transformer. I'm curious to know why that happened.

    • @brentonmeadowsvk3cm
      @brentonmeadowsvk3cm  4 роки тому +1

      good question, it came to us in the state it was in 4 years ago, and man, the old transformer smelled bad. But the usually obvious signs in the output stage or power supply shorts were not there, so I think the transformer just for some insane reason got hot, and then very hot as we were not wanting to put the new transformer in until we had checked so many power supply and rf output area components. Nothing stood out as a transformer killer to be honest, but as you can imagine, i was still hesitant putting the new transformer in. In the end a recap and a few resistors that looked like they had been warm, the 1 ohm 2 watt meter shunt was open circuit, but she fired up and all voltages measuring beautifully. Current draw was within spec so we may have got a little lucky, a lot of the work I did over the last 4 years and it was always the job that got interrupted and put back on the shelf, usually awaiting parts. I am not sure we will ever know the exact cause, but happy shes a goer again...
