"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next".
Donavan O'brein Features of latin language. Sounds nice to me anyway. I love this language, something strong and sublime it is there. Maybe it is a spirit of the great times of roman civilization, the spirit of Roma Aeterna. There is even one proverb: "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur", which means "Anything said in Latin sounds profound".
Preciosa banda sonora con una magnífica puesta en escena y amplios decorados y trucos de informática, junto a una actuación de buenos actores que encandilaron al público en general.
Because they went about it in a decisively un-roman way... Rome was strongly against the aggressive war, true their definition of defence was fluid but eight of ten wars Rome fought either someone attacked Rome or its Allies... Caesar"s conquest of Gaul for example was trigered by an attack on gualic tribes that allied with Rome, and which Rome was treaty-bound to protect.
gelul12 I live in Versilia, Italy. Here is where the true romans survived to the mixture of populations. This was Campus Maior ;) Come on, don't be Jealous
As Sparta speaks of Gladiator's return to the screen for one review called instant replay, it's nice to know that the soundtrack gives anticipation, excitement, and curiosity to the film called for the children to see in Drama Class and Acting Reviews for Summer School or Summer Camp. Mystique
It would be difficult to choose just a few of the parts of this score; it's all wonderfully done, especially the part where Comodus (Comode -us, as I call him) re-enters Rome.
Just got back from 10 days in Rome, and got some Great photos of my trip. I would like to use your compilation of Gladiator as the soundtrack if I may. You'll get credit for the music tracks of course.
+Beowulf1ca technically he is not the one who can give you permission but the people who actually have the licence for this song (for example hans zimmer?)
I don't mind action scenes even if they're a bit historically off. But I grind my teeth when they used their pilum - a javelin - as a regular spear. ( 2:46 ) The Pilum was always thrown before engaging with the Gladius; the spear point was of hardened steel at the tip, but the thin neck was soft and would bend on impact. It would be a terrible use as regular spear.
Italic people are related to many deities, but the very origin of the City of Rome lies on the will of Romulus to unite the many tribes of northern Italy who fought each other in reason of these very deities. If you look at each folk, each one of them ressemble one singular deity. I always tried to realize what's the first deity who stablished the Roman Empire and never came to a conclusion because how I said there were many. But starting from the first intention of Romulus and from the etymology of his name I sum up that the beginning of Rome lies on the god Apollo, the sun. But we are two thousand years foward now, and most of the Roman folks migrated to the north, specially to England, the only ones that maintained the flame of the Latin heritage are those descedants of Mars. I say that because being from South America I was able to observate that during the time.
You would want to go a bit further back to the days of the Roman Republic then. A lot of the Roman Empire went and made most modern day leaders look tame.
It's seriously irksome just how much of Gustav Holst's work Hans Zimmer pilfered from. I was *just* listening to Mars the Warbringer and wondered why I was hearing it again.
+Christian G because both POTC and Gladiator themes had been composed by Hans Zimmer. if you listen to some overtures by the same composer, you will notice the same thing. for example, let me give you James Swearingen. listen to his scores, you will notice some same patterns.
This music is great but from historical point of view the movie is false.Commodus died in his bathroom during a conspiracy (yes he had fantasies that he was Hercules or the best gladiator and fought in Colosseum with gladiators-yes he was courageous (!?)-he had a sword of metal and opponents had wodden swords).Anyway rumours were that he was a son of a gladiator (his mother Fausta had an affair when her husband, emperor Marcus Aurelius was in a military campaign).Anyway this movie reload some parts of the scenery of The Fall of Roman Empire (movie released in 1960s with Sophia Loren and Chr.Plummer)
If he died in a bathroom what kind of movie would it have been? Not as great as the one that was created. Sometimes you have to make it better otherwise the story becomes a bit dull.
Well, mister I know that the movie is great but you have to understand the difference between real and fiction. If you read ancient historians you will see that reality there is greater than many fcitions.Have you read fundamental sources of ancient history?
Of course I know its'a fiction, but it's more fictional than you think. And if you read carefully what i wrote you will see.You speak of real characters. But you know what the irony is? The main character (a great general Maximus,,favourite of Marcus Aurelius and so on) is 100 percent fictional.
Consider done, boss...!! Man, you are really crazy... If you think you are badass, why don´t you create your own film, with its unique vision ? From this way, you will have 100% real facts...although I think you are not a Coppola in talent.
Most people don't realize our favorite scenes is the music elevating the moment
So true.
That's true man. Without music, movies would most likely suck
A civilization ahead for their time, it amazes me the glory they achieved
In 20 years, this movie will still make people revel in awe...
Yeah!!!
one of the nice theaters near me just did a showing for it. my god it is still fantastic and in theaters its incredible
"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next".
One of the best movie speeches ever
you know its roman when they add "us" and "ius" to literally everything.

***** Res Gestae. Your life is measured by the things you have done.
Oh interesting
Sounds a lot like Pirates of the Caribbean at times. Probably due to the soundtracks having both been composed by Hans Zimmer. Both are amazing.
3:10 The trumpets bring the epicness of battle to life. I love this movie!
Rome made the world hystory...proud of living in such beautiful unique country like Italy...
+michela buccarello
Beware of invasion right in our times!
+michela buccarello Yes and not really reasonable, with this many wars and massacres of peoples. But you're right, italy is really nice
Aldea Alexanderur/ islam suck

Meh, the Romans were basically Greece 2.0. All the achievements came from the Greeks.

Jerkix that and the fact modern day Italians dont even resemble romans. romans were romans not Italians.
Because they went about it in a decisively un-roman way...

Great

"Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?"
It's funny how the pirates OTC theme comes in half way through, clearly where Hanz got the idea
These kids today don't know what great movies are..
FOR THE KING
+Muhammet Mutlu Nop ....
Romans never had an king they had an emperor.
i'm talking about movie i don't care Romans Ottomans were the best emperor..
and Romolo, Anco Marzio, Tarquinio Prisco ecc??? they were kings of Rome, not Emperors ;)
@@BymMtl why did u put "Romans" and "ottomans" in the same sentence? Lol
es normal llorar con tremenda melodía ???
We should retourn at those times, for a really safe and civilized European environment.
You would want to go a bit further back to the days of the Roman Republic then. A lot of the Roman Empire went and made most modern day leaders look tame.
I was speaking generically, but yes, the age you speak about was greater than the film's one.
Salve!
3.10 epic

+Jamayr Productions what is that flag that you have in your picture??
+RealAlbo4life It's the jamaican flag :)
hanz zimmer recycles soundtracks, no wonder 3:43 - 4:44 reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean
+Clyde Its his style more than recycling. Just like John Williams does
+Clyde stop listenning and start feeling the music and then you will understand a little or maybe not !!!!
You're totally right. This is so Hans Zimmer!
Thomas Newman does the same thing too...
Gladiator was before of Pirates of Caribbean
It's seriously irksome just how much of Gustav Holst's work Hans Zimmer pilfered from. I was *just* listening to Mars the Warbringer and wondered why I was hearing it again.
Gran banda sonora

Is Rome worth one mans life? How long will the US last? the roman empire lasted almost 500 years.
depends on how you count, if you include the byzantine empire its goes all the way to 1453 AD
SuperKing604 You should count the Byzantines.
