The entire scene is historically wrong. The Germanic tribes would not engage in such a battle. What's more, the statement ‘a people should know when it has been conquered’ is completely daft. The Romans never conquered all of Germania - that's why the Limes was built on the Rhine.

while the tactics are all wrong as soon as the legions go forward this really shows what a machine they were and why they were so good at conquering and not losing many men in battles

A hardened warrior whose mutilated thousands on the battlefield but finds the time to admire a beautiful tiny bird. Epic scene.
