John Petrucci is an easy man to like. He has such a well balanced personality and he lets you know any and all gear he uses instead of leaving you to try and figure out what he is using, Kind of reminds you of the personality of David Gilmour or John 5, very nice people and makes it more pleasant to watch their videos. I am stuck building me a JP6 because I can afford raw wood and devote time to make one a lot easier. I am poor.
$2800 for a Majesty 7 is one hell of an investment. I'm beyond satisfied with the instrument. What a masterpiece. Thanks, John. And thanks, Sweetwater, for this interview!
Best breakdown of the series so far. Well done John and Nick. Also your most relaxed interview with someone. Felt like a great fireside chat. I have the JP15 Flamed Sahara Burst and also feel it’s one of the best in the series.
If you watch the interview with Sterling Ball elsewhere on youtube he actually talks about how they used the 4/2 (5/2) headstock specifically to have a straight string all the way from the tuners to the bridge without a retaining bracket, so it is actually completely intentional. So Nick, it was not a stupid thing to say :) 19:41
Bought myself a Sterling JP60 a few weeks ago. My first John Petrucci guitar, and also my first purchase of anyone's signature guitar. Just gotta say, I adore it. Absolutely adore it. I've had a couple of guitars from different brands, from ESP, Ibanez, Jackson and this is the nicest guitar I own so far. Sometime soon I hope to buy an EBMM JP15-7 or a JPXI-7.
My local guitar shop has had a used one hanging on the wall for over a year now. I never paid much attention to it but recently I picked it up and tried it. I've been back to play it the last 3 days in a row and I'm going back tomorrow. I think it's coming home with me soon. And...it already has the Crunchlab and Liquifire pickups installed.
Whaat? Petrucci said the Crunch lab pickup (one with the rail) was never rotated around, that's wrong; he previously mentioned that he flipped it around so the rail was outward facing on the 7-string guitars because he said it made it brighter for the low end 7 string.
I love my JP13. It has the perfect radius, stunning finish and plays amazing. I love the new Tiger Eye finish though.. wish they would bring that out in a JP15 or the next re-iteration of that line.
He never mentions PRS attempting to court him either. Petrucci is highly respected by the musical community. I will bet that PRS has also tried to grab Jeff Beck too. Anyway, for a signature guitar with good build quality, the JPs are not that high priced.
I know people like to hate on the JP16 because of its price and FR 1000 trem but I love the look and sound of the guitar. It's a badass throwback to his Ibanez days.
Hello! We are super excited to get them in, man! Should be a few months before that happens, but we are taking pre-orders, for sure. Please let us know if we can reserve one for you. Thanks for the interest! Anthony Longano, Senior Sales Engineer, (260) 247-6470
I rather the 90's Petrucci's sound. Yeah his new signature models are so comfortable and functional NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! Those guitars sound amazing but are ugly as fuck. And even though the majesty sounds great, back in the day the ibanez JPM used to have more attack, more balance, and used to sound more compressed and tight in the mix!!!
DB is logarithmic. 20 DB boost on a guitar is impossible. It’s almost like the difference between screaming loud a fighter jet taking off. Like I said impossible.

Get a sterling model and change the pickups! You can get the for cheap used

Thanks, John. And thanks, Sweetwater, for this interview!
He said that he is an average guitar playing guy at 7:59. Is he really joking?
Anyone else just like to hear JP talk?
He said "since the Awake album, 2004"... he meant 1994, of course. Man, time flies!
I must own the most special edition of awake then... mine is from 10 years earlier! lmao!
He's more Beard than Man now.
a trick : you can watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Jamal Shepherd Yup, I have been using Flixzone} for months myself :D

Love.. John.. Just a super nice guy.. Exactly what you see here.. Met him 4 times.. He a guitar geek like all of us..
He cannot be not loved. Such a nice guy
I saw a video of Petrucci and pressed like. Great stuff!
JP is a great player, a great story-teller and an even better salesman 😂

Finally a video that talks about the BFR line in depth. I love my majesty.

I need those chairs for my studio, perfect for guitar and bass no arm rest to get in the way.
Awake was in 1994
I caught that too lol... Definitely a brain fart.
Hahhaa i laugh when i heard it :D
ahahaha I did the math... "Am I wrong?!?!"
was cleaning my man cave and when I heard that i looked at the screen and said 2004? 1994 you mean.
If John say's it was 2004, it was 2004, dammit! :D
I love my JP13. It has the perfect radius, stunning finish and plays amazing. I love the new Tiger Eye finish though.. wish they would bring that out in a JP15 or the next re-iteration of that line.
I love how he never explicitly mentions Ibanez.
He never mentions PRS attempting to court him either. Petrucci is highly respected by the musical community. I will bet that PRS has also tried to grab Jeff Beck too. Anyway, for a signature guitar with good build quality, the JPs are not that high priced.
@@alohamark3025 did prs do that? Can you tell me more of the story? Tried to google it but haven't found anything on the internet
What there is to mention? They made him rg with custom graphics and bit rounder neck. It was very strict and that's why he left Ibanez. The end.
In the Train of thought making off video you can see him play a PRS in rehersals. So I think that's true.
Nick gets the word "Obsequious" into every interview of his I've seen. Good word though!
Great interview, I really like Nick's interviewing style. He makes the guests very relaxed and its a pleasure to watch.
Amazing guitarist and muaician. Love you guys at Sweetwater for this! Thanks a ton!
Thanks for checking it out, Andrew! 😎👍
correction: AWAKE album was release in 1994... just saying
Thanks Sweetwater I really enjoyed this one.
EVO Gold frets was what John was trying to explain for the fret wire around 29:00.
I know people like to hate on the JP16 because of its price and FR 1000 trem but I love the look and sound of the guitar. It's a badass throwback to his Ibanez days.
Petrucci has a beard of champions. He needs to start putting a logo of his beard on the headstocks of his guitars.
this is pure therapy.
I really like EBMMs and all, but why didn't you ask him any questions about his special hand chemicals? Or his rack of effects made by Mr. Rackman?
Glad to see and in depth analysis of the XI. I love mine
A secretive Viking...much respect for JP!!!!
5:19 Pearl Red Burst gains so much coolness when paired with black hardware
i own a JP 16 .. minute 51:00 :))
me too!
Awesome interview!
I’m sure these guitars play amazingly well.
That’s a really nice 👍🏻 looking guitar 🎸 he has there ! Wow 😮
I'm left handed but, i'm not a lefty. I love Grim Reaper though!
Excellent interview!
Mr. Petrucci seems like a down-to-earth guy even though he's a guitar super-hero. I wonder if he's not allowed by contract to refer to Ibanez...
i never watched a 1-hour youtube video before and this is my first one
The Majesty is an amazing guitar, I just wish the upper horn was shorter so the shape was more balanced overall and then I would get it, 100%.
Bee's could live in that beard
I'm 68 and have yet to hear/see a single John Petrucci performance. Yet I have been playing electric guitars since 1992.
Listen to “The Count of Tuscany” by Dream Theater
That was pure joy to watch it :-)
he is so humble....)) 07:58
Dude has the sickest Beard!
6:20 “…we did the Awake album in 2004.” 😅
He was off by a decade 😂
I will def be buying that trans black jp15! cant wait!
Hello! We are super excited to get them in, man! Should be a few months before that happens, but we are taking pre-orders, for sure. Please let us know if we can reserve one for you. Thanks for the interest!

I can happily say i own a music man jp guitar :)
I own 2 jp6s, 1 sapphire black and one gloss black. e flat and e standard.
I currently own 20 electric guitars and the Majesty is, by far, my favorite. I bought it from Sweetwater two years ago and it's been flawless.
Nice! Thanks for sharing, Darrell. We're glad you're enjoying it! 😎👍🎸
6:17 So Awake is from 2004? Cool.
I still think of Petrucci as an Ibanez guy = s
Fishman Pickups would be incredible in that guitar. John looks like one of the guys on the old cough drop box.
the Majesty upper horn looks like a BANANA.
but I still love mine
Cool guitars. Although i still prefer his sound out of the Ibanez Jpm with Triaxis like on LTE albums, and explorers club
yep!gotcha!right!-man
Holy hell that beard is ridiculous!
-ly majestic
cool shoes JP, what are they ?
I have the Majesty Fuchsia Sparkle #67
I thought he would have mentioned the new 8 string. Its not a secret. He mentioned it in past interviews.
Seems like a nice chap
If only he could play a musical instrumental lead break solo during the interview !?? 😨😰
Was the Majesty Petrucci's idea?
🤔EHM JOHN...AWAKE Album was 1994 not 2004 😊 - 6:19 !
Awake was 1994 not 2004 lol ;p
could match the instrument on the time line and post it so we can skip directly to the models we re curious about ?? thx vm
Distortion Club LA you could timeline it for everyone else
:))
so... what is the correct way to pronounce "piezo"?
Pee Etso. Can't bear when people say PIE ZOH
Pizzao. Of course.
I rather the 90's Petrucci's sound. Yeah his new signature models are so comfortable and functional NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! Those guitars sound amazing but are ugly as fuck. “The dishwasher” 💀 And he didn’t get smited
8:30 😂 ....that's why i sold it
I came here for the beard
DB is logarithmic. 20 DB boost on a guitar is impossible. It’s almost like the difference between screaming loud a fighter jet taking off. Like I said impossible.
Guys!, what a great interview... it is like "guitar porn" !!
Thank you very much
Petrucci is the man and those guitars are awesome! But geez, he's gotta shave that beard...
At 7:57 min john said he is what after hearing that i might stop plying guitar 🙄
Signature guitars are cool, but they are specifically made for that player. Everybody is different. I'd love to try one, but I'm a lefty. ;(
GRIM REAPER!!!!
His beard is about as impressive and clean as his playing.
If you cut his beard off it would grow back in a day.
I want to be an average guitar player like JP!
His beard got bigger again haha
The Jesus Christ of prog.
chef johnny with the pot, boiiii
@nick why do you always look like you just punched someone?
tofu
dude, you need to grow some facial hair. just sayin'
He's an awesome guitarist but his beard sucks
