Been having sciatica for two and a half weeks now.. Your exercises have helped so much. First time doing this particular exercise and my pelvis feels much more grounded and balanced. Back flat on ground after. Thank you!
I have suffered from SI joint pain for 13 years and thus been stretching every day just to function and avoid flares up. I have never known how to reduce that gap between the lower back and the floor when lying down until now, and I have done cat and cow stretches in pilate/ yoga for a decade! Thank you!
it did not relieve the pain but the arch in my back is definitely less.I'm going try the next video. I love all of the stretches and things I have learned from your channel. You are doing great work helping relieve the sufferings of others, Thank you!
Hi Taro! Just did this movements for a few minutes. i had sciatic pain on my right side and after a few minutes it is gone. I got complete relief. Thank you!
I have been having low back pain and some numbness in outer left thigh. Trying this breathing and movement exercise my low back relaxed, pelvic was lower to the floor and low back seemed cool in a good way….if that makes since. I will continue these everyday and see how I do. Thank you very much!
I have been finding relief from my back pain through your videos. Searched for a video of your on channel addressing sciatic pain this morning and found this! Feeling much better than earlier this morning. THANK YOU!!!
I found relief from the second movement more than the first but I have a feeling each day will be different as I heal. I was happy to find much less space at the end of the movements. Thank you. 🙏
Dear Taro Thank you your Videos gibt so much insight and change to my wellbeing and exercises. It is stunning how my backpain is generell after 5minutes of small movements. I practise Yoga since more than 10years, and most of the time there are aches. And the small movements just take it All away. Absolutely stunning. Thank you very much 🙏☀️susanne
Hi Taro, thank you for the link. I couldn't feel much difference in the space behind my back after my first attempt but understand how small movements can make big changes, thanks again. 😊
This is great! It’s helping me a lot and yes and I will include it in my daily exercise routine for maintenance. Thank you so much for sharing this video and all the others available on your channel.🙏❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this! I've never had sciatic problems until just last month and it's been dreadful. I have been stretching and doing some very gentle and simple yoga which helps a lot, but this exercise was soothing on a much deeper level. I am adding it to my routine and look forward to the cumulative benefits! My back was pretty flat too the floor but gained more relaxation and lost even more arc when I was done. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for your videos. I love trying your exercises and seeing the differences in my body. In this video I ended up having less space between my back and the floor once I was done.
I am doing this sciatica exercise for 2 weeks, it's a great relief to find out the gap of lower back to the floor is less, both sides of pelvic bones are aligned. I am still doing the 4 exercises series for sciatica. Thanks, Taro Iwamoto!
I can detect a definite decrease in the space under my lower back after doing this breathing exercise. I am going to find the other sciatica video and add that to my hip mobility routine. Moving my body is getting much more fluid by doing these simple exercises! Thank you Taro! I am 65 yrs old and I feel graceful when I move!
Hey Taro, I didn’t realize that my longtime problem might be sciatica and not back or hip. First I did your sciatica #2 video and that seems so far to make a big difference. Now I’ve just done #1 after running and my back is far more relaxed. Onto #3! Thank you for these and your many other v helpful videos!
Hello. In future can you show us the best way to get on the floor? I am in alot of pain. Gettinf on floor and then getting up from floor I would like to see best way to not cause further injury. Thank you for yr help.
I really appreciate your patient approach + gentle exercises... it's my luck that you've just uploaded this. Been nursing an inflamed tendon which is pinching my nerve in my lower left back for a couple months now. Trying acupuncture and deep tissue but still to no avail. I've been told to stretchhhh because my back is pretty tense. Thank you and looking forward to the next one
Thank you Taro. I have been doing pelvic rolls for about a month (from your other videos) but never checked the space. Next time I will because I'm curious :)
I was feeling a smaller gap between my lower back and the floor after doing the excercise, definitely will try to do this daily for some time :) I was wondering: Is this „just“ useful as an excercise, or do you have any tips on how to be mindful of the breathing-hip-relationship in everyday life? I am trying to improve my flat breathing overall, but I never thought about it being related directly to my hip. I do have problems due to a „twisted“ hip though, so of course it would make sense that it impacts my breathing too. I would love a video about breathing with different hip positions while sitting or standing. Thank you, keep up the great work!
Hello @Feldenkrais I am receiving tons of middle back pain radiating to the bottom of my shoulder blades and rib cage. My back never used to pop when I leaned to the side I’ve never had pressure and now for the past few months I’ve had tons of pressure and discomfort and I am clueless will you please help me?
you are welcome. the idea is to inform the nervous system of a variety of patterns so it recognizes habitual pattern and also expands movement options. So you will have more resources in your system, which is always a good thing.
First time I did not notice a difference in space, that was some days ago. But now I did notice a bit smaller space, I made the movements a bit bigger. Pain at SI right still there but I guess it needs to be done more often? Thank you for helping 🤗
@@TaroIwamoto ok thank you I will definitely try. I guess it's my pitfall to do too much. That's how I got my shoulder injured as well. Will be checking out your shoulder exercises as well. Thank you!🙏🤗
I got a good feeling after doing this so I will practice it more. I have been convinced that my ischias is coming from my walking pattern and that something is crooked, likely the pelvis, not so much but enough to cause my pain, what do you say?
that's certainly a possibility. habitual weight distribution, gait patterns lead to the same stress patterns over and over, so yes that's totally possible. These serires help you change your habitual movement patterns, which can improve sciatica. That's my rationale for creating this series anyway:)
@@TaroIwamoto I've done about 4 of your videos and I do feel more balanced. I over pronate on my right foot and this has caused a lot of postural problems over the years. I have custom orthotics and am going to follow your teaching to see if I can improve my hip pain (usually triggered by walking, even with the orthotics). I have practiced a lot of deep massage on my spine, hips, glutes and stretching, would you advise to stop those and focus on brain retraining instead? Thank you.
@@HelenThomasCreativeHealer you dont need to discontinue massage unless thats bothering you. changes in tissue tension result in changes in movement as well, so you can compare your movement patterns before and after massage, which can be very informative

No change in gap. Increased nerve pain in R SI to R glute. Hard to get bearings as to movement with loss of sensation in R leg & foot. Will keep working on it.
I had to do a second round to feel an improvement. My whole left side is weaker than my right and I tend to use the muscles on the right more. So I had to concentrate on doing the movements with the left pelvis rather than with right only and the left being dragged along, if that makes sense?
Thanks for your immensely helpful videos. I would like to ask: Do you squeeze the buttocks when moving the pelvis upwards? Is this a natural occurrence?
My pleasure! no i dont intentionally squeeze the buttocks, though they naturally contract slightly. I think more about lightly pressing feet into the floor. I will cover that in the next video i think.

of course I cannot guarantee this will heal sciatica, but improving movement quality and efficiency with more integrated movement can reduce stress to lower back and help reduce sensitivity of sciatic nerve over time.
