  • Welcome to a quick video showing you how I sharpen my chisels I use day to day. It's nothing special, I use a Toemek to grind a bevel back and then a diamond stone to hone a edge. The bevel can be ground back with any grinder, just be sure not to heat the cutting edge and alter the tempering of the steel!
Using a leather strop you can hone the edge to a sharp enough level for most general woodworking to a professional standard. It takes a couple of minutes per chisel and there is no excuse not to have sharp kit.

Brilliant, it’s something I’ve only partly mastered, think it’s the leather stropping I’ve failed on. But you’ve encouraged me to redo mine. I have a 15 year old Tormek I invested in, wanting to getter a better edge on my tools. 👍🏻😀

One of the most important tasks, very easy to learn, but hard to master, once mastered, becomes second nature.

An excellent, clear video on how to sharpen a hand chisel. It’s certainly a lot different and easier than when I started. I wouldn’t entirely trust my memory but I don’t think we had secondary bevels then; sharpening was less and more often; different steel used?

Funny that. Every time a chisel, milling machine or lathe bed gets dinged, it's always someone else did it. 🤔

Having used a radial arm saw for a hand full of times yours really makes me nervous 😂 lock on switch, no guard. I tell my class mates who arnt as capable to only do what they feel comfortable doing, which I feel is good advice. But still your radial is vicious

Hello mate, why don’t you use the tormek to finish your chisels and use the linishing wheel. I don’t think I have used a stone to 2 years since I got mine.
