    Welcome to my latest video on how to make a Shaker style cupboard/cabinet or kitchen door.
    These doors are part of a sideboard build I have filmed, watch it here ➡️ • Making a Sideboard Cab...
    This video shows a method of making the doors using the Festool Domino DF500. There are several ways to make this style of door, this is a very quick, easy and simple method that is more than strong enough for the job.

    Love ur sanding board. I found glueing the sand paper to the board keeps it perfectly flat and the sand paper last a lot longer. Worth a go

    Another very thorough video! Good stuff. I just did something similar with a set of storm windows. The domino is great whenever there's not the budget for full mortise and tenon.

      Hey mate, thanks again!! I think its a fantastic tool. i know a couple of die hard joiners that poo poo them as they aren't traditional or proper, but it definitely has a place in my workshop!!

    Another good video. Wondering why you didn't just use the 37 mm paddles on the Domino instead of marking and then lining up to the mark. My eyes aren't great so I use the paddles whenever that spacing works and doesn't clash with anything.

      Thanks Mark! I tend to have the paddles locked in so they don't interfere with anything, I find they add a little spring against the workpiece which I don't like, and hat it when your trying to align something near to them and they spring off and you have to remove the piece and start again, so like I say. Tend to just leave them fastened back out the way.

    Really enjoy your videos, and your work is beautiful, but it was very difficult to make out what you were saying in this one. Btw, this is the only video I have seen explaining the use of the Domino tool. It was interesting, but difficult to hear and follow.

    Thanks for sharing your process, a great video. Why do you chose Accoya to make furniture? It's an expensive material for indoor use.

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  4 роки тому

      HI Sally, I use Accoya mainly because it is so stable. there is no movement in the joints over time. Things really do stay as you make them. It also doesn't lift the grain with any finish, so its very quick to get a paint finish. labour saved also means it woks out reasonable on cost. It is also generally very clean and defect free so again saving time again and minimal offcuts.

    how do you feel the dominos compare to a shaker cope and stick setup? I have both, but had not considered dominos for doors. Very interesting!

      Erm, not sure really, probably nothing in it due to the limited stress on a cabinet door especially with solid panels. Do whichever is best for you.

    Thank you for the video. What do you mean at around the 5:00 minute mark when you say "in traditional joinery you work from the inside edge"? I guess I don't really understand. Thanks!!

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  4 роки тому +1

      When you set out timbers in the marking out stage you mark the inside edge and the face, then when morticing you keep the inside edges square and wedge up to it, so thats your reference point, usually leaving door stiles long, You would never cut to length and reference from the ends traditionally. (not how i was taught anyway)

      @@BradshawJoinery Thank you for the explanation. I had been doing it this way; marking a face and an edge and the referencing those faces. It's really interesting watching your videos and the accounts of other joiners on Instagram because I'm just a hobbyist, but watching someone who has undergone training and apprenticeship is a whole different ball game. It's awesome. Thank you very much for taking the time to make and post these videos.

    Which glue did you use ?

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  5 років тому +1

      I used a Polyurethane Glue from Soveriegn chemicals. I like it as it gives a more useable open time compared to some PU glues that are very quick!

    Good video! What were the Hafele mag catches? 👍👍👍

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Andrew. They are just glass shelf brackets. i remove the black plastic part and add a rubber bumper. i use rare earth magnets in the frame and door to pull it into position. Ill do a video on them one day! its a really quality way to hold the door. no loud click as the magnet catches give and it pulls the door in with a good feel.

      @@BradshawJoinery Clever! I've normally put rare earth magnets in the door and a wooden catch block. Works well on single doors, as the air cushions the door so get a nice noise, but double doors can slam a bit. Look forward to that one 👍👍👍
