- A short video on changing the knives on my Felder Ad531 planer thicknesser. It's a really simple process and sure beats setting old has style knives in a block then realigning the beds.
The video also includes a tip for removing chips from planer blades if you hit a foreign object hidden in the timber.

A good idea is to place a wooden wedge between the end of the block and the machine frame,so that there is no rotation when undoing the wedge bar .Even a dull blade can take a chunk!

I would not want to be near that planner if the blades snapped. The speed that runs at coupled with the sharpness of the blade, it would cut through almost anything and a human being wouldn't stand a chance
Lethal thinks if it ever went wrong. I've never seen or heard a planer Blade being thrown so hopefully the risk is quite low... Old style spindle cutters on the other hand...
