Great video of Kiev, it is indeed a very beautiful city. The Roshen chocolate company is actually owned by the Ukrainian President and yes, their chocolates are delicious. Next time you visit Ukraine, you have to check out Lviv. It is not as large as Kiev, but it has beautiful architecture and so many different churches of varying denominstions. You will be spoilt for choice with restaurants as well in Lviv. It is another great city that you have to visit.

Great video! You might be wondering why people comment about Kiev vs Kyiv.
Here's the situation: the modern territory of Ukraine has been under the mostly unwelcome influence of Russia for hundreds of years. The revolutionary events of 1991, 2004 and 2013-2014 have shown that the Ukrainians are tired of the tyranny of the eastern neighbor. Ukrainians want to break free from the Russian influence AND correct the stories of the past.
An example might be, the of the name of the state of Russia itself (previously Moskovia) was made up by Ivan the Terrible to hijack the legacy of the medieval State of Rus (modern-day Ukraine). I don't want to go too deep down the rabbit hole, but basically, there were tons of myths being created and facts distorted to support the narrative that Moskovia is the primary heir of the Rus. These stories were exported all over the globe and are now considered a historical consensus (even though they were recently proven to be fake).
I'm writing all of this just to give you a glimpse of why Ukrainians are so upset with the Russia (not even taking into an account the annexations and an ongoing war)
So, what does all of this have to do with the city name?
Well, it's simple: Kiev is romanized from RUSSIAN "Киев" and Kyiv is romanized from UKRAINIAN "Київ".
Now, I'd ask you to think which of the two names makes more sense to use.
Please don't mind people get emotional about this, IMHO Ukrainians have every reason to get triggered by things like that.
    Thanks for the great vlog!

#5 is Vozdvizhenka, a block of amazing houses near Kontraktova square. Yep, I agree with you. They are literally everywhere, I didn't even count how many churches there are in Kyiv. The one that has a bunch of caves and monks' graves is Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

One more thing about McMonalds. In Kyiv there is a lot of delitious cafe with different burgers. So McDonalds desided to show how modern it is and designed two special burgers for people who want it. But still better to go in random cafe for having burger in Kyiv, it will be amazing and cheap.

The locals from other regions of Ukraine, as well as post Soviet people from the other countries, as a must have buy Cake Kyiv (same as in chicken Kiev) from the Roshen confectionary, which made this original recipe in mid of the last century. My Swiss and Argentinian friends never heard of despite living in Kiev for quite a while. They enjoyed it, so buy it from Roshen as there are also counterfeits, due to popularity among internal tourists. Give a comment when you try it😀👍

....Ir was the same in St. Petersburg, Russia. The buildings were a site to behold. Either marble or granite they were built by the 1000's and the manpower that it must have taken to get all of that done is a world wonder in itself.

I tried to use both because it seems unclear which to use. I always want to try and be respectful and correct.
Even on Wikipedia it says both....
"Currently, Kiev is the traditional and most commonly used English name for the city.[19] The Ukrainian government however uses Kyiv as the mandatory romanization where legislative and official acts are translated into English.[20]"

@@digitalnomadgirl Let me explain, please, so that there are no delusions.
It's not about how it is written in Wikipedia, the fact is that your version is a Russian word, Russia and Ukraine have been destroying Ukraine and Ukrainian for more than 300 years, especially the Ukrainian language. People were tortured for the Ukrainian language, imprisoned for a long time, writers were persecuted, books were banned and burned. This is all a story. And since the times of the Russian Empire, which had a great influence on the international level, they have distributed this option. In fact, KYIV is exactly the Ukrainian version of the Ukrainian language. This is respect for the Ukrainian people.
If you read the history of Kyiv on Wikipedia, you will find out that the name was called from one of the founding brothers whose name was Kyi, notice not "Kie"!
I understand that you are not obliged to know the history of Ukraine, but Ukrainians will be grateful to you if you show a drop of respect for our language.
And you have a great video, you are a very positive girl. I wish you only the best!

Welcome to Ukraine !

Regarding the architecture: those beautiful buildings are what left after years of destroying them in that city and replacing with either Soviet dull structures or by the sky scrapers of the newest times.

I am thinking about visiting Kyiv as an American tourist. I was attempting to learn the Ukrainian language, but I keep reading about how many people in Kyiv speak Russian. Maybe I should learn how to speak Russian and not so much Ukrainian. I understand that people in Kyiv speak both Ukrainian and Russian. I am wondering if the people choose to speak more Russian than Ukrainian.
