This was one of the first After Effects tutorials I watched back in early 2012 when I was in college, I'm 29 now and I work as a motion graphic animator in a local broadcast company. It's amazing to look back and see everything you've learned. Thank you so much for this.
After watching this tutorial. I fried up AE 5.5 for the very FIRST TIME and I got the hang of it after about an hour. Ran into trouble with keyframes. (Stop keyframes are important you'll learn). But 4 hours later and I've mastered this technique. Best tutorial I've ever seen. Can't thank you enough!! :D
Love this. Just getting into kinetic typography and ae and have watched a lot of tutorials. Yours is really helpful. I loved animating the null instead of having everything flying all over the place independently. Thanks a lot.
I wouldn't usually stay on a video for 22:12 minutes but your voice is so soothing and when I've done mine which may take a couple of days as I'm doing a full song I'll video response it. Thanks for the tutorial mate!
This is a great tutorial, i wish i could see this 3 years ago, when i got my first kinetic typography project and i spent like 4 days trying to find a way to do it quickly. As i sad, its a great example for those whp want to start with animation&typography. Btw theres a nice shortcut to time your text layers without rendering(playback). Hold ctrl(command if using a mac) and drag the cursor across the timeline. You can hear the audio frame by frame if you want ;)
The work isn't always exciting. That's why it's key to keep your mind focused on the result. You'll find the enjoyment in putting the pieces together like a puzzle.
Ohh my bah-jesus! I love (strong word) your sense of humor. It makes these tutorials more easy to live through. I wish you were my own personal editing instructor. Can you hire a effects instructor like you'd hire a private tennis coach...just with longer shorts? What would it cost?
15 people disliked this Video...Why do SOME people never have anything nice to say..I really enjoyed your video..and feel that if someone take the time to share their Knowledge, they should be thanked...Soooo Thank you for Sharing Jesse.
Thank you for this! Informative and fun. (And funny) Speaking from 2016, I guess that means that kinetic typography is now sooo five years ago? Anyway, proceeding to add my secret sauce. Great tutorial!
Thank you so much. I have a Kinetic type midterm and this definitely helped. Though my project has like 200 text layers, multiple null objects, and a background, this vid taught the fundamentals and helped tremendously. Thanks you awesome person you.
wtf?! the best tutorial i have ever seen, since my dad taught me how to ride a bike twenty years ago. you now have +1 suscribe. saludos desde Argentina!
+TheFluffyBirdy No, its 20 minutes to learn how to use this technique in your own future projects. I dont think it would benefit your genre of videos and it doesnt look like you have After Effects experience anyway.
Very good tutorial, especially since you gave the disclaimer of not explaining everything. I know nothing of aftereffects, but flash knowledge seems to help against feeling overwhelmed at what's going on. Also keep up the humour, you're very brave to let that show in the hostile world of the internet. *subscribes*
Dude. Love this tutorial, helped me out on a project for a client so thanks for that. And you definitely got some mad design skills, don't sell yourself short of that, my friend. P.S. I totally lost my shit when you said "KA-BLAM-OH!" Had me rolling.
thanks! we were doing this in my video production class and my teacher didnt even know the trick to adding the null object to animate it. cant wait to show my finished project off to him :)
Dude seriously your an amazing tutorial maker lol, your hilarious and you know what your doing and make it simple so beginners can do it to :P keep making videos bro!
I thoroughly enjoyed that. I loved the way you presented this and had me laughing intermittently between great information. Thank you. Learning for free like a broke chump on the internet should always be this fun.
In the layer window, there should be a small "right pointing" arrow. Click on it to show a droptab with another arrow, click the new arrow and you should be able to see it. To preview the whole thing including audio, you could try pressing "0" on the keyboard, or Ctrl+0, different inputs for different systems.
Nice work Jesse, thank you for the tutorial the results looks really slick. I've only ever tied this technique once - it's not as good as yours but it's here - will try to post it...
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Your teaching style is fun, straight to the point, and so NOT convoluted with extraneous info! Most tutorials make me feel dumber - but this one made me feel like the goal I have set for myself is within reach! :)
I can't believe it. You answered after one month? Do you really answer every question? You are really great man. :) Thanks for the info too. I knew that it is not called "motion typography" but I couldn't find the appropriate definition. "Motion graphic" seems to do the trick though. Many thanks! Go on! :D
@MrNickthePsYcho Layers in AE scale from their anchor point. Set the anchor of your text layer to the left (by setting text to left justify) and a scale move will give the impression that the left most letter is stationary i.e. "same spot" - Hope that makes sense.
Like a fool, when he said “I didn’t see anybody raise their hand, I’m impressed.” I turn around and look behind me as if Someone is sitting next to me. *facepalm. Excellent Tutorial!

In the Section with the Play Button, Forward, Rewind; There's one with 3 vertical bars and a triangle. Or hit 0 on the numpad. Hope this helps.
