- This is an ADVANCED tutorial on Kinetic Typography using Adobe After Effects. You should have a basic understanding of key framing in AE before trying this. I don't hang out on UA-cam much so feel free to help each other out in the comments section. Hope you find it useful!

This was one of the first After Effects tutorials I watched back in early 2012 when I was in college, I'm 29 now and I work as a motion graphic animator in a local broadcast company. It's amazing to look back and see everything you've learned. Thank you so much for this.
I didn't know Will Ferrell does after effects :)
He doesn't do after effects. He IS after effecs
after effects wishes it were will ferrell
tuwhitcombe i wish i was will ferrell and after effect ;)
Tulaga Whitcombe I didn't think he sounded like him until I read this 😵
haahahha
I've looked at an embarrassing number of kinetic typography tutorials, and this one has by far been the most helpful. Thank you.
Seven years later, still a great tutorial. Thank you very much!
I thought Will Ferrell was teaching me kinetic type! xD Excellent video. Thanks for the help!
Love your enthusiasm, its addictive!
lol tommy bae I love you
Love this. Just getting into kinetic typography and ae and have watched a lot of tutorials. Yours is really helpful. I loved animating the null instead of having everything flying all over the place independently. Thanks a lot.
After watching this tutorial. I fried up AE 5.5 for the very FIRST TIME and I got the hang of it after about an hour. Ran into trouble with keyframes. (Stop keyframes are important you'll learn). But 4 hours later and I've mastered this technique. Best tutorial I've ever seen. Can't thank you enough!! :D
Learning After Effects in my class and the first thing we have to do is Kinetic Typography. Love your tutorial. You get a subscribe!
i love the handsome way of your explanations. great job
I ended up getting sick the day we had this lesson in my Motion Design class. You saved my ass, because this tutorial was so flawlessly easy to follow! Thank you!
Don't pay any attention to the negativity...you're a very good teacher, thorough, and fun to listen to. Nice job, Jesse!
Nice Tutorial, Thanks man. Help me a lot in teaching kinetic typography to my students.
Brilliant tutorial, extremely informative and very helpful!
Hi.
tnx a lot! i've learned the basic, ready to go to more advanced tutorials
Only watched the start of this video but I have to say that was cool! Watching the rest of it now! Keep up the good work!
This Intro is pretty cool and creative! I really like it :DD
Ohh my bah-jesus! I love (strong word) your sense of humor. It makes these tutorials more easy to live through. I wish you were my own personal editing instructor. Can you hire a effects instructor like you'd hire a private tennis coach...just with longer shorts? What would it cost?
+Anthony Vella *stands behind you guiding your mouse hand while Unchained Melody plays*
this is by far the most entertaining tutorial ever. A+
I wouldn't usually stay on a video for 22:12 minutes but your voice is so soothing and when I've done mine which may take a couple of days as I'm doing a full song I'll video response it. Thanks for the tutorial mate!
Thank you for this! Informative and fun. (And funny) Speaking from 2016, I guess that means that kinetic typography is now sooo five years ago? Anyway, proceeding to add my secret sauce. Great tutorial!
You are awesome and I love your tutorial! "shablam"!!
This helped me finally get how to start doing kinetic typography. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I have a Kinetic type midterm and this definitely helped. Though my project has like 200 text layers, multiple null objects, and a background, this vid taught the fundamentals and helped tremendously. Thanks you awesome person you.
"...what am I doing...oh yeah " haha, you rock
awesome tutorial, fun jokes, thanks for making this
This is a great tutorial, i wish i could see this 3 years ago, when i got my first kinetic typography project and i spent like 4 days trying to find a way to do it quickly. As i sad, its a great example for those whp want to start with animation&typography. Btw theres a nice shortcut to time your text layers without rendering(playback). Hold ctrl(command if using a mac) and drag the cursor across the timeline. You can hear the audio frame by frame if you want ;)
One of my favourite tutes so far! Thank you!
can you please make a tutorial about those juggling text in the intro?
in the clever way part..
thanks!
Is this Will Ferrell?
Great tut eitherway!
Cheers
Great tutorial, this will definitely help spice up my videos at church
Love your humor!! (I hate dry tutorials) Thank you for the help!
Hey noob-question... whats that grid thing that frames the scene and shows the middle ? What is it called and how do i activate it ?
thx solved it already :D
How are you previewing your audio?!?! I can't get mine to work!!! :\
(I'm definitely a noob)
hit 0 not space.
The dot on the keypad
thanks for showing your work flow. it was very helpful
The work isn't always exciting. That's why it's key to keep your mind focused on the result. You'll find the enjoyment in putting the pieces together like a puzzle.
bullshit ends on 04:03
everything else is awesome thanks for the upload :)
thank you,its annoying when ppl talk about everythiing but the tutorial
Bullshit? This dude is entertaining as hell. I'd listen to him comment on the damn phone book!
What was that in 11:00
I just wanted to let you know this tutorial made my day.
I had a great time watching it.
I thoroughly enjoyed that. I loved the way you presented this and had me laughing intermittently between great information. Thank you. Learning for free like a broke chump on the internet should always be this fun.
Hey bro nice tut.. but pls youve gat to start going strAIGHT TO THE POINT..
20 minutes just for that little bit of text! yeah no thanks.
+TheFluffyBirdy No, its 20 minutes to learn how to use this technique in your own future projects. I dont think it would benefit your genre of videos and it doesnt look like you have After Effects experience anyway.
Chino Pisces Stfu, if it takes that long, I wont have time for it anyways, i have school work....
Chino Pisces Someones salty.
Chino Pisces Wow, how mature.
+Chino Pisces someones salty you know...

Great tutorial of all the ones i have watched none cover the null object for tracking Thank you for that
Dude... you are funny as hell!! Spoken like a TRUE artist.
Thank you so much it was very useful, I'll put it in practice in my next videos.
Holy shit, this is a 2011 video? No wonder the UA-cam examples has the old design. Damn! This will live forever!
There's a special place in heaven for people like you. You're awesome.
This was really helpful, thanks for taking the time Jesse.
Excellent tutorial. Not just the basics. A real pro. Thank you!!! And yes, great sense of humor. Had to think of Steve Carell alot ;)
Love the tutorial and you're pretty funny and entertaining while teaching. Thanks!
Thanks you. This is one of the best tutorials on youtube.
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Your teaching style is fun, straight to the point, and so NOT convoluted with extraneous info! Most tutorials make me feel dumber - but this one made me feel like the goal I have set for myself is within reach! :)
Best tutorial I've ever watched
I don't know if your still active on this channel but I love your teaching style and you have a great sense of humor! I appreciated this video :-)
Dude. Love this tutorial, helped me out on a project for a client so thanks for that. And you definitely got some mad design skills, don't sell yourself short of that, my friend.
P.S. I totally lost my shit when you said "KA-BLAM-OH!" Had me rolling.
You may not be a designer, but you got straight to the point with the video and I found it quite helpful. Nice one!
Thanks mate for the time and effort you took to make this. It really helped. Cheers.
From Argentina, thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you! this tutorial helped me way more than that of my theacher xD It helped me a lot :)
Lover your sound effects :)
And great tutorial.

YOU ARE THE AWESOMEST TUTOR I'VE EVER SEEN
This is a great tutorial. Thanks!
Bro your tutorial is awesome thank you soooo MUCH!
Wow. That bracket short cut probably would have saved me at least three hours on each lyric video i made TT_TT thank you sir! Awesome tutorial too!
Great Tutorial, really helpful and entertaining at the same time
Thank you very much this was extremely helpful.
This was a great video. Nice and simple and funny!
Despite the video being a mac-oriented video while I have a PC, your tutorial helped me the most somehow. Thanks mate :)
Best tutorial I've ever seen.
Great tutorial really helpful thank you and your design was good!
In the layer window, there should be a small "right pointing" arrow. Click on it to show a droptab with another arrow, click the new arrow and you should be able to see it. To preview the whole thing including audio, you could try pressing "0" on the keyboard, or Ctrl+0, different inputs for different systems.
wow I didn't even know there's a term for this! I called it karaoke texting. lol awesome video. thank you for the tips!
Awesome video, really helpful & a classy tutor. Thanks!
Nice work Jesse, thank you for the tutorial the results looks really slick. I've only ever tied this technique once - it's not as good as yours but it's here - will try to post it...
Thanks dude! you are an awesome tutor!
This is so helpful, thank you! Don't know why I'm here nearly 6 years later, haha
Dear friends tanks a lot, this tutotorial was clear, clever and simple.
Mate you're a top bloke, got me good marks in Motion Graphics! haha
15 people disliked this Video...Why do SOME people never have anything nice to say..I really enjoyed your video..and feel that if someone take the time to share their Knowledge, they should be thanked...Soooo Thank you for Sharing Jesse.
nice tutorial! It's fun and I've learned something! thanks! :)
Very good tutorial, especially since you gave the disclaimer of not explaining everything. I know nothing of aftereffects, but flash knowledge seems to help against feeling overwhelmed at what's going on. Also keep up the humour, you're very brave to let that show in the hostile world of the internet. *subscribes*
Dude seriously your an amazing tutorial maker lol, your hilarious and you know what your doing and make it simple so beginners can do it to :P keep making videos bro!
you're an awesome teacher.. and i love the fact you aren't a designer....
Thank you! I added new one to my motion skills :)
Hi, thanks for uploading and sharing - like your humourous style too
